Wow - I never thought I would ever write a review about an endodontist, but here I am. Dr. Jimenez and his staff were absolutely fantastic. I would not hesitate to recommend him. Dr. Jimenez and his staff were friendly and professional, and they all seem to work very well together. The office is extremely clean, modern and comfortable. Years ago I had a terrible experience with root canal at a different endodontist so I was rather apprehensive about having one again. With Dr. Jimenez, my root canal was smooth sailing. It required two appointments - I had a little discomfort for a day or so after the first appointment, but no discomfort whatsoever after the second appointment. As far as payment, I was given an estimate at the time I booked the appointment of my portion of the cost and was told that they would work with my insurance to get pre-approval, but that I was expected to pay my portion at the time of service. I have come to expect with medical professionals to pay my portion in full at the time of service so I was glad to know what to expect ahead of time. I feel like I received absolutely first class treatment with Dr. Jimenez. If you are looking to have a root canal, I cannot recommend Dr. Jimenez enough! read more

Dr. Jiminez helped me after a terrible time with another endodontist who said that the infection I had was due to my sinuses and not her root canal. Dr J tried to save the tooth and worked with me using different antibiotics. He's honest, patient, and very kind. read more

I was in severe pain, my dentist called them, well we are in for computer training, but we will see what we can do...yes it was a friday their day off.. 3 hours, then gives me his cell phone, you have any pain, you call me...see i had a bad infection, lots of drainage, he cleaned the infection and left medicine in it, was a 25 year old root canal gone bad......his singing.....great love it.....tells me he is relaxed and confident in what he is doing......the front desk.......bob, already called your insurance your set, here is how much you will owe, it might go up, yes folks it might! saw one reviewer who was upset about extra for posts.......dude they are trying to save your tooth, don't know what all is going to be done till they get in there! I have had several root canals. All but one were problem free. 9-years ago here in Santa Cruz one done and it still has a dull ache. Finally I made an appointment with Dr. Jimenez whom my dentist, Dr. Kuratari , referred me to. The equipment is unbelievable. The office beautiful and relaxing. The Dr and staff very pleasant and assuring. OK I've had my consultation and it makes perfect sense to me. Next the procedure and I'll let you know but my feeling is it will be a good experience. I absolutely loved getting my root canal done by Dr. Jimenez and his assistant. He made the process totally tolerable, was extremely confident, fast and efficient. He is also a wonderful person who makes you feel comfortable. The office is set up to relieve stress with good art and a beautiful garden to look at while you're in the chair. I am so very happy that I escaped a second visit to Dr. JImenez office after my first bizarre, unprofessional and ethically questionable first and last visit. I waited over an hour to be seen, while witnessing one of the most odd lobby experiences where a woman came in to apparently return the birds she had stolen from the doctor, and subsequently burst into tears and had to be escorted out. He spent double the amount of time with the bird-napper than me. He saw me for 7 minutes total and said things like "oh that's awful" "that's really bad" and then said "you'll need to schedule an emergency appointment tomorrow so you don't loose that tooth..." and then he left. Neither he nor his staff explained my diagnosis, or why I would need an emergency appointment. I was so shaken up when I left I didn't manage to get any questions out. When I called back later for clarification someone at reception explained that I needed a root canal. I was confused since the viability test to my tooth was good. My experience felt so wrong I decided to check the yelp reviews which confirmed my fears about Dr. Jimenez. Luckily, I found Dr. Francis where I got a second opinion. Dr. Francis, clearly a man with ethics and integrity referred me to an oral surgeon since he felt that a root canal was not going to resolve my issue and may actually cause more harm than good. He was right! Dr. Loitz, an oral surgeon also of ethics and integrity was also baffled by my particular situation. He concurred that a root canal was not the answer and was honest in explaining what he thought was the best course of action even though the diagnosis was unclear. After the successful surgery, I was diagnosed with a pyogenic granuloma an unusual diagnosis for a person of my demographic. This diagnosis confirmed that the emergency root canal Dr. Jimenez was insistent upon doing after a 7 minute assessment would not only have been utterly unnecessary, it would not have resolved the issue and it would have damaged a totally healthy and viable tooth but would have filled his pockets. This was unquestionably the worst dental experience of my life. I cannot recommend this dentist to anyone. After the first phase of my root canal, my temporary filling fell out the first day. I had to go to another dentist to replace it, as this dentist had just left town the following day, and I do not believe I did anything wrong to cause this. After the first phase, my tooth was in severe pain, which lasted almost a month, and it still hurts to some degree, off and on. In my view the other negative reviews here are correct. This dentist in my opinion is very rude and arrogant and I found him to be very insulting to me on a personal level. His staff in my view is even more rude, dispassionate, uncaring and unfriendly. His singing during the procedure is in my view just unpleasant and annoying and well as unprofessional. He plays relatively loud music the whole time and sings along. It was like karoake during the procedure. His dental assistant sometimes had to take the same x-ray multiple times, as the first ones were evidently not usable, and in my view she is less than competent. In my opinion, this is one of the worst dentists I have ever had the misfortune to encounter, and in my view his staff has no social skills at all, nor respect for the patients. Ugh.. he is a nice enough man but I cannot recommend him to others. I have a high pain tolerance and without any warning I felt the worst pain I've ever felt in my mouth. He said he had to "trace" the infection and little did I know that meant shoving a plastic cone like thing into the roof of my mouth that felt like a knife was cutting me open. (I promise I'm Not exaggerating) I felt everything.I immediately was in uncontrollable tears and the root canal hadn't even begun yet. He kept saying over and over again that it was the "infection" that was causing me to feel the pain but I have never had an issue with dental work prior. Three trips later I am now done. The second time I came in I didn't realize it was only to check and see how I was healing from the first appointment.. got there for my apt at 8 and wasn't seen until almost an hour after only to be told "looking good!" And then was sent on my way. My last appointment was at 9:15 and because he was balancing three patients at once my quick finishing up procedure kept me there until 11 so be sure you aren't on a time crunch like I was. I suffer from TMJ so to have a rubber dam and bite block in my mouth while he is running back and forth between patients was not at all comfortable. Again, he is a nice man I just feel my first root canal could have gone a lot smoother and was a bit traumatized by the whole experience. My only hope by posting my first and probably last yelp is that maybe they can prevent these kind of things from happening by reading. read more

Dr Jimenez just saved my badly infected tooth, which I previously had a root canal on, a long time ago. I had the infection come back, but he hung in there, to save my tooth. Not everyone can save a tooth in this type of situation. He was great, and I recommend him without hesitation! It's a little weird with him singing loudly, but I came to realize this is probably done to distract the patients from the drilling and what he is doing. I also feel if it helps him to get in the grove, that's fine by me too! I ended up looking forward to his singing! He has a great personality, and is very kind and upbeat, and hands on. He enjoys his flowers, and he has an awesome garden for the patients to enjoy while we are in the chair, and a beautiful aviary with sweet birds too, and lots of art and orchids in his office. He really appreciates the beauty of these things. I found his staff to be all great as well. Super nice, caring and engaging. I had to go back many times in my process, and all said and done, these are my thoughts. I even got a little money returned when I was done. If I had one thing to mention otherwise, it would be the wait times, but time well spent, in order for Dr Jimenez work on my tooth, and save it. He has a great reputation, and he is a busy man, though he never makes you feel that way. He treats you like family! read more

ALMOST PERFECT. FOUR AND A HALF STARS. whenever it's called for, i'll always go back to dr. jimenez. my only negatives are the uneven attitude from the front office staff, and one minor incident with dr. jimenez himself. for better or worse, it's unexpected when the front office staff in any office are outgoing or friendly. so, uneven means that most of the time, it's good enough, and i'm pleased when it's anything more than that. One fee pays all, and on my first root canal, 'all' extended to follow up checks for three years. everything went excellently well, and i was delighted to return. it was actually fun. I'm now between two appointments for a second root canal. dr. jimenez graciously fitted me in to an already full schedule to begin the procedure. during that appointment, he told me to let him know if i felt any pain. when i did feel pain, i waited to see if it was going to continue. after it repeated several times, i let him know. when it happened again, i let him know again. and yet again the next time. he said an injection would take too long to work. again, the pain came, again i let him know. finally i gurgled at him that i was beginning to get irritated with him, that it was hurting and he wasn't doing anything about it. his aggravation was clear. near what became the end, he asked that i let him know the very moment the pain occurred, i did, he said that he then knew exactly where to place the injection, and finally did so. note: once i knew that the pain was not temporary but repetitive, i had been letting him know the instant it hit all along. what i didn't and don't understand is: why tell me before starting the procedure to let him know if at any time it hurts, and then not act when i do? why did the injection that wouldn't work in time before finally come so near the end of the procedure? All of that said, i'm happy to return. the business of his non-responsiveness was a surprise to me, but probably circumstantial. he prides himself on never ignoring his patients, and except for this one incident, i find him fully attentive, as well as personally engaging and entertaining to be around. Aside from treatment or staff: there is a lovely garden outside the full glass wall in the treatment rooms, with beautiful plants, bird feeders, and caged large black and gold canaries. in the waiting room, there is interesting original art. also, there is ample parking, and the location is close to the Bay Porter exit on Hwy 1, so easily accessible to those coming from farther away. read more

Dr Jimenez did a fine job but his office staff is rude and lacks customer service skills or even compassion. We will not be returning for our other two root canals. Maybe he should take some more time with hiring people who care as much about his customers as he claims he does. read more

Dr. Jimenez and his staff are great! Everyone in the office was very friendly and welcoming, and explained everything carefully. Dr. Jimenez did great work, and I felt no pain at all, which surprised me, since I was expecting at least some pain. I had several questions, and he clearly enjoyed answering them and explaining things to me. And as several others have mentioned, the music and singing is really nice! Highly recommended. read more

I saw Dr. Jimenez for my first root canal so I was bit naive about the procedure and what to expect. (I was scheduled only for a consult that turned into a root canal---I WILL NEVER BE TALKED INTO A CHANGE LIKE THAT AGAIN!) I had not eaten nor taken pain medication BEFORE the procedure (better than AFTER). The office, however, did not seem to take this into consideration nor was I asked. The ONE Star is a rating of the QUALITY of dental work and a reflection of the overall experience. Dr. Jimenez's assistant was very friendly and Maria (who answered the phone) was a bit brusque (until it was found out I had 100% coverage) but overall, the office was courteous. Everyone was welcoming and friendly however in terms of the actual procedure, ONE STAR! I felt pain (and I mean PAIN!) 4 times during the procedure (He explained it was because I had an infection--kidding me!?). I generally have little to no anxiety during dental work however after feeling the first tearing and agonizing pain, the rest of the procedure was full of anxiety. During the root canal, I was lying in Dr. Jimenez's chair with sweat on my brow and upper lip either due to the actual pain I was experiencing (FOUR TIMES) DURING the procedure or I was anxious due to ANTICIPATED pain that was randomly occuring throughout the root canal! After the procedure, I had A LOT of pain. The procedure occurred on a Monday and I was unable to sleep or eat well due to the pain. I finally caved in and called Dr. Jimenez 6 days later. I had to call the answering service twice before I received a call back from the doctor and when he returned my call, I felt my pain was not adequately addressed (in the least!). I suffered throughout the weekend, popping various combinations of advil and tylenol. I finally received relief 3 days later (9 days following the procedure). I have a second appointment (I think I might even have a 3rd appointment-is it too late to switch dentists?) and I have no idea what will happen during this/these appointment(s) as the office has thus far not been very forthcoming with information or providing information freely. If I didn't/don't ask, I receive no information and since this again, was my first root canal, I wasn't too clear about WHAT to ask! (The office provides a full color brochure on root canals so I guess that's what they consider to be the "information package"). I still experience an achy pain from time to time and when I talk to others who have had root canals, they're experiences have been much less painful and they've received much more compassionate and empathetic care so if by chance I need another root canal, I now have several referrals given by people who have actually worked with the endodontist and I now know better what to ask! Good luck! I've learned to be a better advocate for myself and ASK! ASK! ASK! Part 2: The office found out that I had a co-pay of 30% after all (I tried to tell them this at the beginning but they insisted--I even signed a financial agreement stating I had zero financial responsibility). So now I sit mid-procedure---an open wound in my mouth and I must gather my full co-payment before the doctor will finish the job. I understand one must pay for services before receiving them HOWEVER, the office made the mistake. Had I known I needed the money before, I would NOT have scheduled the procedure when I did. Thanks to Dr. Jimenez for the gaping wound...Not the best way to do business in my opinion. read more

My experience with this endontist was terrible at the time and now that I have gone to another endontist, I am very clear that this endontist should be avoided at all costs. It is hard to come to any other conclusion that this guy is a root canal factory and that's what he wants to do. His billing procedures create incentives for patients choosing immediate treatment rather than being thoughtful and his exam was not nearly thorough enough to determine whether a root canal was the proper treatment. I was referred for a problem with an existing root canal. I should have known something was up when the office person called me a few days before and talked money and asked me to set aside 2 hours for a procedure. Since I was being sent for a consult, I was confused and I decided before I went in that I would not make a decision on the spot. I get there to find out that there billing procedure is to charge for a consultation UNLESS you agree to do a procedure that day, in which case the consultation fee is waived. If you go home and look up info on the internet or seek another opinion and if you come back to him for the procedure, he will still charge you for the consultation fee. After a cursory examination, not nearly as thorough as the one I had with another endontist today, he says he will try and save the tooth and can do the work on the spot. I ask a few questions and then ask him about his billing policy, and the conversation went downhill from there. I left, clear that this guy was never touching my teeth. I have since found out, after a thorough examination and consult today with another endontist that I have a fracture in the tooth with the root canal and the results are "definitive". The tooth cannot be saved. If I would have listened to Jimenez, I would have paid lots of money and endured lots of discomfort for a negative outcome. Another treatment plan is called for and that's what I'm going to do. read more

Jimenez is competent and personable I guess. This review doesn't reflect his ability as a dentist, rather the experience as a whole. I received a consultation and referral from an initial dentist to John Jimenez. I contacted his office and inquired about the cost of my suddenly needed root canal. I was kindly told a price and that my insurance would be contacted and to expect such and such amount. Once in office, the story quickly changed. The administrative person was rude and actually argued with me about me inquiring about possible payments. Her attempts to make me feel small or stupid(?) caught me totally off guard (I should have left then and sought more reasonable arrangements). Her tactic for empathy or bringing niceties back around was to offer that she really liked my name, that she's always liked it. My name is Tom. Huh??? She tried to comfort(?) me in the end by suggesting that the many forms I signed amounted to at least knowing that's all I'd have to pay. Not true. Jimenez added a post to the procedure while unknowing to me, adding to the bill. Again when I inquired about the extra charge, I was loudly told that I signed a clause stating changes might come about increasing the price. Defeated, I forked over my debit card yet another time. Leaving the office, I stared at plastered grins and couldn't help feeling like I'd just been sold the finest lemon on the lot. Today, I received in the mail yet another bill from Jimenez's office. Again, a copy of the note I signed adorned with highlighted statements of "estimation...", "you are responsible...", "WITHIN 10 DAYS or face penalty charges...". Apparently, when they said they contacted my insurance company for me, they failed inquire about percentage paid per types of service. It might be fitting to say that this visit to this dentist has left a bad taste in my mouth. I will in the future do my research and own questioning of the insurance company. I can now see that Jimenez's singing and stomping during the procedure was a money dance. Effective. read more

Complicated root canal in 2014, took longer than he expected. The local anaesthesia was wearing off, I told him; it was starting to hurt. He says he's almost done, just one more minute. Ten minutes later, the anaesthesia is gone and he's still drilling. I'm crying and begging him to stop. He doesn't want to stop and wait ten minutes for a new shot to take effect; it will put his schedule too far behind. Finally he stops. After all that extra drilling and pain, he didn't get it all and the tooth is still pressure sensitive. Never. Again. read more

The only reason i gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that they do not have nitrous available. I had a situation where i was in great pain. His staff got me in and worked on the same day. They were very clear about costs and payment options. The Dr is a very nice man and very gentle with patients. Nobody enjoys a root canal, except maybe Dr Jiminez, he seems genuinely into his job and explains clearly what is going on. His asst. Maria was a total proffesional. I highly reccomend him. Starting with the most delightful front desk person, Peggy, ending with the non-painful root canal with Dr Jimenez, it was a FANTASTIC experience. Dr Jimenez is warm, friendly, kind but most importantly extremely professional and skilled. The way that he sings to you during the procedure is also very relaxing. Unfortunately my grandson fell and chipped his front tooth last week and after being tortured by his primary dentist I called Dr Jimenez. My grandson was seen promptly and Dr. did a root canal and saved his tooth. Naturally my grandson had to be really convinced to even go to see Dr. Jimenez due his experience with his own dentist. Dr. Jimenez is an exceptional practitioner. He fixed a root canal botched by another dentist. I had to have extensive work, and he made sure I was pain free and the tooth was saved. He has a kind, caring staff and a calming, comfortable office. I have had work done by him in the past, and have nothing but praise for his expertise and skill. Root Canal! Uggh!! These two words strike fear and panic in our hearts. Yes, it can be quite stressful and painful, but my experience with Dr. Jimenez was extraordinary. He was able to diagnose which teeth were causing the problem which was such a relief since I had gone to an endodentist in Los Gatos who was unsure and wanted me to wait till the pain got even worse! Dr. Jimenez got to it immediately, and my two teeth were rescued. He possesses the skill, compassion, and intellectual capacity to make the root canal procedure actually pleasurable (as good as it can be). The patient's comfort is utmost in his mind, down to placing lip salve to ensure you don't leave with dry, cracked lips which is my usual experience. His staff was caring and efficient. I can't praise him and his staff enough. He also saved my crown so this tells me that money isn't his primary reason for doing this. If you need a root canal, look no further. You'd think it would be traumatic getting a root canal. Not so. This endodontist is fantastic. His staff is relaxed and cheerful and he is more so. Dr. Jimenez is careful and takes his time. He even sings while he works. He explains what he is doing and uses microscopic procedures. You feel relaxed--I almost fell asleep in the chair. Best of all he knows how to inject Novocain--you don't feel a thing. I had no pain afterwards. Dr. Jimenez even calls you at home in the evening to make sure that all is well. Dr. Jimenez was a referral from my dentist (Dr. Peabody) for a particularly challenging infected root canal. I had expected that this was going to be a case where the tooth would need to be pulled but Dr. Jimenez convinced me that he would like a shot at saving the tooth. So, with the exuberant gusto that only Dr. Jimenez has, he has he went to work. After several appointments and x-rays we watched the infection subsided and the tooth began to recover...amazing work. Dr. Jimenez is very skilled, kind, friendly, funny, and fun. His assistant are very good at what they do and they all seem to really enjoy their jobs. The atmosphere of the office is relaxing with a full on garden of eden out the back. If you unfortunate enough to need a Endodontist I highly recommend Dr. Jimenez. read more
