He helped me order the door, brought it to my house and hauled the old one away. When he took off the old door, the entire base of the frame was rotted and literally crumbled. Three people from Mid American Energy came knocking at my door the other morning. They informed me that my power meter was 15 years old and it had quit working. They told me that in order to replace the meter, the meter box would have to be replaced first and an electrician would have to do that part at my expense. So, I started my online search. I contacted Universal and three other places. One place didn't return my call at all, another said that they were too backed up, and the third one gave me a quote of $3100 dollars. Universal came out the day after I called and said they could do the job for $550 dollars. I said that would be fine and to go ahead as soon as they could. They were here the following day with Brian and his co-worker. When they saw that the entire box did not need to be replaced, they only replaced the connector parts inside the box that were bad. When everything was said and done, they said the job turned out to be easier that they had expected and dropped their charges from $550 dollars to $180 dollars. Mid American was there at the time they did their work and seemed perfectly happy with the work that Universal had done. They installed the new meter and everyone went on their way. It could not have been a better experience. If I ever need the help of an electrician again, I won't even consider calling anyone other than Universal.

Universal Electric was called to my home for what appeared to be a breaker issue. By the time their…read moretwo technicians arrived, the issue had already resolved itself. I asked them to investigate further in case the problem returned, but they declined, saying "there's nothing we can do." They never entered the home, never inspected anything, and only briefly stepped out of their van into my driveway to talk to me before leaving. At no point during the scheduling call was I told there would be a service fee. When the techs arrived, they made no mention of a charge, nor did they provide any kind of invoice or paperwork before leaving. I later received three bills by mail, each demanding $130, with no explanation of what the charge was for -- just a warning that failure to pay would result in the account being sent to collections. I did not believe the charge was warranted and disputed it in writing via certified mail with return receipt, which Universal Electric received and signed for. They never responded. No follow-up, no phone call, no documentation -- just silence. Eventually, they turned the matter over to a collection agency. It's frustrating to be billed for a visit where no service was performed, no agreement was made, and no information was shared upfront about potential charges. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Universal Electric.

Paragon will give you a fair price while still providing professional service and quality workmanship. They stand behind their work and make sure the job is done right. When I received a quote from Paragon everything was written up in a contract explaining the things they do and the the things they don't do. There were photos and descriptions for optional materials listed with prices. There were no surprise extra costs or added fees. I was in the hospital when the day came to replace my roof but trusted these guys to make sure the job was done right. When I got home the roof looked amazing and when I had questions Brandon was happy to come back out and explain everything. If you need exterior work done, call these guys and you wont regret it.
