This is one of best Italian restaurants in the county: Delicious, fresh, authentic, and sticking with the classics. But tonight when I went to pick up my takeout order there was a mix-up. I'd asked for a substitute, and there's as good a chance that I was unclear as there is that they misread it. Either way, I got home with something different than what I'd ordered. I called as soon as I got home, spoke to the owner, Linda, and she said they'd make what I'd originally ordered at no charge AND to keep the extra entrees. This is the kind of food and service we want living in small towns, and Jimmy D's lives up to their reputation. We went on a Thursday night around 7:30 pm and we had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. The place was busting at the seams busy. It's super cute inside and outside. We were brought our drinks and served warm bread and butter as we surfed the menu for our dinner choices. To start we got the Sicilian rice and cheese balls as an appetizer. And they did not disappoint. I preferred the marinara sauce over the ranch. For dinner I got the carbonara and Mark got the chicken fettuccine. Our portions were enough to fed two extra people. I ordered something to go for myself, but then when I got to the restaurant, I saw that they had a bar with several empty chairs and I went and sat at it. I said you know, I changed my mind. I'd like to eat here. This older woman waitress said, "you ordered to go. You have to take it to go." I replied with, "I guess I'll just eat it in the car then". Not one person that worked there said anything, they just made me leave. I hadn't done anything wrong. I was dressed nice, but I felt like crap when they kicked me out of their restaurant because I ordered "to go". Then when I got to the car, I looked inside the bag. There was no spoon or fork or napkins. There was no butter for the bread. The raviolis were sideways in the bag spilling out into the bag. I just couldn't believe it. I called and complained, but whatever. I paid $25 for five raviolis that spilled in the bag & two pieces of bread. I will never go back to that place. Ever. What a horrible woman. So rude. read more

This is the kind of Italian restaurant that I grew up with on the East Coast; family run, cozy but not small, a menu that covers all of the basics, and a kitchen that backs that up with quality meals. The service ladies were excellent, and made room for us and our mobility device after a short wait. I chose a couple of appetizers; Calamari and Rice and Cheese balls. My wife had the Baked Penne. What a feast! Even the two appetizers were too much for me. My wife really liked the Penne, but we did have to take some of it back to the hotel. I really loved the Rice and Cheese Balls, crunchy and soft all in one bite with a great flavor. Not as impressed with the Calamari, it was OK, but served as thick strips, which is unusual, and didn't do much to showcase the flavor of the Squid. This was a highlight of our trip to Grover Beach. 10/10, We will definitely be back if we ever come back! read more

Great little spot to get your pasta kick! The servers were nice and the food came out in a timely manner. The place is on the smaller side so the only negative is the loud unsavory conversation beside us. We ordered the carbonara and a seafood pasta both of which were delicious. They didn't give us bread for the table and the waitress took a little long to greet us once we were seated but overall it was a good experience. Enough Salt For A Pretzel..... Jimmy's D's still offers a good deal for your money. But at a recent dinner before a show at the nearby Clark Center on a Thursday evening, my wife and I were reminded "price isn't everything". We started with an order of garlic bread ($8) with 6 good sized pieces. To go with the meal, our large glasses of 805 Draft ($8) arrived in the nick of time. We each got the same entree - Eggplant Parmigiana ($20)....my wife's with a side of vegetables and mine with pasta and marinara sauce. Lots of food for $20, but one reason was the amount of cheese. It dwarfed the eggplant. Overall, my dish was filling since I like cheese and eggplant...though my wife thought her eggplant got lost in everything else. Service was fine and about what you'd find in a neighborhood Italian place. And it's tough to beat the price. However, about 90 minutes later during intermission at the show, we looked at each other in disbelief and asked "are you thirsty?" Our dishes must have been slathered in salt. They really didn't need it. That's one way to spice up an evening. read more

Normally don't really do reviews but after my first visit, definitely had to. It's location, that building never seems to stay consistently one restaurant for very long throughout the years. I thought it was very interesting for a spot that hasn't been around for super long, to have such consistent positive reviews. Especially for Restaurants, it seems hard to please everyone and a competitive market to be able to earn great reviews consistently. Hard to stand out. That's personally where my curiosity about this place to try it stemmed from. As a local business owner here in Grover Beach as well, I had to support and grab a variety for the family. I ordered: Lasagna (I love lasagna personally), I had to also try some of their popular items based off of Yelp, their Toasted Raviolis, and their Baked Penne. I ordered also Fettuccine Alfredo and their Cheesecake to try. (They also hooked it up with a side of the fluffiest bread that was crispy on the outside, that was amazing with all of the pastas!) So got a bit of variety. Oh man, their sauce (I believe it was the Sunday Gravy) that was on the lasagna, was sooooooo good. Like i definitely found one of my all time favorite lasagnas here. Definitely how I was told when I said it was my first time there, I just thought "What took me so long?" I normally skip out on sides of bread but I just thought right away, this would go amazing with that bread haha. They know what they're doing! All of the other items were great, I tried their Baked Penne and I loved the wholesome Cheesiness. The pink creamy sauce was good as well, it was not as saucy tasting but it definitely compliments the cheesy pasta goodness. The Ravoli's crispy and again with their sauce, oh man. So good! The ranch that came with it as well was so good. Seems like it's made there instead of some low quality skimped out on ranch. Was very good. The other items, Fettuccine Alfredo and Cheesecake were great as well. Very consistent here. This place is one of my favorites now forsure. Definitely coming back for that Lasagna and bread haha. This is definitely a spot I would feel comfortable with exploring more of their items based on their consistency here. This place feels very cared for and family owned. I enjoyed the energy here. I loved that they seemed excited for me to try their restaurant for the first time instead of just being another number. I'm really rooting for this spot. read more

Never disappointed! We try to make Sunday dinners at Jimmy's we love how welcoming this place is. The cute casual cafe diner vibe, the friendly servers to the owners in the kitchen singing away at the Italian music overheard on the speakers. I've never been disappointed or left hungry! And I'll let you in on a little secret the spumoni is incredible!!! Sure parking can be difficult at times but if you can't get a table surely you can order takeaway because Jimmy D's is a must! Decided to come here to spend a 3.5 year relationship and it was fantastic. Jimmy D's is only a few minutes away from home and it has always caught our eye. We were so excited, we definitely ordered more than we could swallow. We got the toasted ravioli ($9), chicken parmigiana ($20), and manicotti ($17). It was all so so delicious. This spaghetti house was like the ones in the 70s. Friendly staff making excellent food that is consistently delicious. I go for the manicotti and the garlic bread which is soaked in butter and garlic and just so darn good. My husband's crazy for the vodka sauce, but everything there is good. This place has been around for a few years now, I've even been told good things about this place. Well I finally gave it a try for an early Saturday dinner on July 5th 2025. The crowd was decent and still we did not have to wait, our server was quick with the menus, slightly slower on the drinks (coffee and two waters). They do not have a fountain soda system and I was not paying $3.50 for a single soda can/bottle. It was a good 15 minutes after the drinks that we were served the bread for the table. The bread was good and went well with the oil and vinegar, but the butter served was cold as if straight out of the fridge and could not spread it on at all. My water i had finished by now and had set it near the edge to be refilled where any staff could see it empty. It was about another 10-15mins after the bread did our food arrive. Our plates were served with the food still hot and fresh as if right out of the kitchen without it sitting around waiting to be served. The portions were decent, but... the flavor and contents of the Shrimp Primavera was nothing to write home about and I wouldn't agree on its price. The Eggplant Parmigiana, I don't think I'd order again. The flavor was ok. When I think of eggplant parmigiana, I see a nice thick hearty slice of eggplant. A decent 3-4 slices I'd say can be cut out of an eggplant, but these serving slices were a fraction of what one slice of it should've been. There was easily more breading than eggplant, I even had to cut open multiple spots just trying to find the eggplant. We requested a refill on the coffee and bread basket about a third of our way into our entree, not till just before we were done with our plates did the coffee and bread get refilled. As our entree plates were bussed I had to ask for the refill on my water. A good 10 minutes passed till we were tended to again, more plates picked up. At this point I asked for the check and for my first water refill again. The timeliness of the entire dinner service and simple water refill requests I feel we're not up to par for a small quaint restaurant that this place is. Overall I would "maybe" give this place another try but as an initial first visit I was very disappointed. Not to mention uncomfortable chairs and also overhearing two other table's conversations about the slow and poor service. For a dinner for two with this experience, I don't think it was worth $63 read more

Came here for dinner with my boyfriend on a Friday night. It's somewhat small but a cute, casual Italian place with regular table and counter seating. There's no host stand and two entrances to the restaurant so when we came in, we stood there for a minute before a waitress noticed us and let us know it would be a 15 minute wait. After we got seated, our order was taken quickly and we were provided complimentary bread. We ordered the toasted ravioli as an appetizer and I got the manicotti with a side order of meatballs while my boyfriend got the fettuccine Alfredo with added chicken. The ravioli came soon after and we both enjoyed it. It came with marinara and ranch dipping sauce and it felt like eating a fancy mozzarella stick, but the inside was also filled with ricotta. Then our main entrees came and even though the manicotti only came with two pieces, boy was I stuffed by the time we were done! It was cheesy, saucy, and flavorful. The meatballs were also juicy and seasoned well. The fettuccine was creamy and cheesy without being heavy. Other than the initial confusion coming into the restaurant, the service was spectacular and staff were friendly and attentive, and food was delicious. Went here with a group of six. We brought our own wine and paid a reasonable fee of $10 for corkage. We had an order of garlic bread that was fantastic. For entrees we had fettuccine, Manicotti, lasagna and baked Penne. Service was great and restaurant not fancy but old school Italian Cafe. Very reasonable cost.
