I'm a fan of Jimmy John's! There is a new one close to the house which can be problematic at times, but this review isn't about that location and/or my occasional addiction to freaky fast quality food/service. This location is no different then any of the other places. Remember freaky fast starts with you. When you get to the counter they are asking you what you would like. They have 6 - 8 regular subs to choose from or you can go with larger selections (basically more meat and condiments) on a larger piece of bread. I can be a creature of habit at some locations and this happens to be one of those. I always end up going with the #5 Vito which as the name would suggest is an Italian masterpiece. They add free toppings such as lettuce, onion, tomato, hot pepper (by request) as well as sprouts (again by request). Oil and vinegar top it all off. The chip they offer are of the Kettle cooked variety and include BBQ, jalapeno, sea salt, plain, etc. Good sweet tea too! Freaky fast, freaky good.....can you really ask for more?

Before one is quick to judge on my 3 star rating let me say the food is awesome! I rreeeaalllyyy am into customer service so it almost got a 2 star from me and after I ate the meal I raised it a star;) ..The food alone would have given it a 5 star from me. However, I am a whole package kinda customer. Upon arrival there is a huge menu to the right with alot of options and even a lettuce wrap option for those of us gluten free folks that still want to eat really tasty food. They definitely packed it with a good amount of meat which was very good quality. They even had sprouts as one of their free veggie add on so,major plus there! I could not believe how well the lettuce wrap was done in comparison to other places that offer something similar. It was crunchy but flexible and big enough to fit the quantity of what would go on a normal sub. It was truly impressive Let's talk about the customer service. Call me crazy but if I go somewhere else to pay money for food and for preperation of it then I would atleast like to know me ordering is not a burden to the staffs day. It seemed like a bunch of high school kids that just got out of school were running the place so maybe they must have been excited school was out. Excitement I can handle so let's go into detail.... after ordering the lettuce wrap the counter guy tells me he is out of lettuce wraps...which in reality the girl just did not feel like taking more lettuce off of the head(which last time I checked only takes 6 seconds). Another guy happened to over hear her and luckily interjected THAT OF COURSE THEY HAD LETTUCE. they never run out of lettuce. She sighed and proceeded to continue in the making of the wrap. The guy at the counter however, was sweet and was just going off of what he was told.... i happened to get an entire ear full of gossip between social circles of the same girl and another employee while I was there. I wanted to not listen but it was too loud to ignore.....final result .... I definately will go back to give it one more chance because the food really was fantastic.

I know it's a franchise but they have great bread. The ingredients are fresh and they are SUPER quick with the sandwiches. Thy have their own chips and the price is very reasonable. I got one of their large premium subs chips and a drink for a little over $9. Good stuff.

It was about 30 minutes away from my house so I was indecisive if if I wanted to drive that far for food. This place is located in like a mini mall there weren't many cars out in the parking lot and they really weren't that many people inside. But you could tell there's regulars there because when we walked in they were like we don't recognize them lol It is not table service you order at the cash register what we used to call it. They do not have Coke products. They only have Pepsi so I ended up just getting a water. My son got a sweet tea that he liked. He started off with a beer, cheese dip, and that came with pita bread and chips. The server threw some toast and that was really good too. I ordered a cup of the French onion soup and it was delicious. I also ordered the Quattro (Four) cheese flatbread. My son ended up getting the spark burger with mac & cheese. He was dazzled by the burger, but not so much the mac & cheese. I ordered a water. He ordered a sweet tea. I had to ask for a refill for him and I never got a refill for my water. They really weren't a lot of people there so it wouldn't be hard to refill drinks. There is a bar there with a bartender it might be better to sit there so you can get more attention It was definitely a 70s 80s theme in there. In the bathroom, they had a cassette box with real cassettes in there. I really did like the decor. And they do have several TVs in there to watch sports. I'm not sure if I'll be back or not

Soup changes daily and this day was chickpea and chorizo. Nothing life changing about it but it wasn't bad. We walked into a small, dark, crowded dive bar and ordered amongst several other people after waiting in line shoulder to shoulder with other customers. I say this not to complain (because with a crowd like this on a random weekday, they're obviously doing something right) but to take your kids in car seats (‍) with caution. Crowds in small spaces stress me out and it would have been even worse if we'd had the boys with us. I'd also highly suggest going on a day when you can sit outside. There's very minimal seating inside. They do have a lovely, spacious patio that also feels like a garden with plenty of trees for shade. However, they make it clear they don't want dogs there. Parking was horrific. A narrow street with cars on each side. We barely fit through it. If there wouldn't have been an open spot on it, I'm not sure what the next option is because I didn't see anywhere else and this street only held so many. I would dine here again because the sandwiches were fresh and delicious and they obviously know what they're doing! I was pleasantly surprised that they had prosecco as well. Just heed my few warnings and you'll enjoy as well!

My friend ordered the chicken kabob entree but the man quickly told us it would be a 20 minute wait. I appreciated that he let us know since we were on a hour lunch break. He did recommend the lunch special alternative which she went with. I got the mushroom and Swiss burger. I absolutely loved the patio area. It's actually the only seated dining option since the inside is only big enough for ordering. Our food came out pipping hot which was nice! The burger and fries are a great portion for the price. I was a little disappointed that there was mustard on my burger. However that's my fault! It's clearly on the menu I just didn't pay close enough attention. I'm a huge mustard hater so that threw me off. The fries looked delicious but they were just a tad undercooked for my liking. Definitely not raw, just not cooked long enough. My friend enjoyed her food for the most part but it was nothing to rave about.

I used to frequent a bakery that was on this strip but I never saw this quaint little deli. The staff was pleasant as we looked over the menu. I ordered the chicken kebabs and my friend ordered the Philly with fries. Later he added a plain cheeseburger just to try it. He said his Philly didn't have much meat and he didn't care for the wrap. He thought it was going to be a traditional sandwich. However, my chicken kebab meal was flavorful and delicious. I didn't like the salad dressing that came on the salad, but that's just my particular preference. Everything was very fresh and was enough for two meals. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor seating on this nice Fall afternoon. We had differences of opinion on the burger. I thought it had a great taste-seasoned well, and fresh. My friend wasn't impressed and mentioned that it came out too fast to have been made fresh. I would love to go back and order one with all the trimmings to get a more accurate account as to how to rate it. I will definitely return to try more menu items.

Kool Korner Sandwiches - Classic Cuban

Visiting Birmingham to tour the UAB Solar House, I knew we had to sample some good eats before…read moreheading home. I selected Kool Korner Sandwiches because sadly the main spot to get a good Cuban in Huntsville closed a few years ago, so it seemed like an opportune time to get that craving met. The location is a little nondescript and hard to see from the street (at least the way we came), but there's ample parking. Stairs lead up to a small front area (few chairs and tables for outside dining) and then into the somewhat dimly lit restaurant. It seemed clean inside and I liked the relative straightforwardness of their menu: sandwiches, a few soups, and some odds and ends like tamales, empanadas, and pastelitos. Counter service was exceedingly friendly and attentive to our orders, ensuring we got exactly what we wanted and offering to remove any topics we found offending. I got the chicken sandwich, while my mom got a traditional Cuban while my dad tried the medianoche sandwich. Most sandwiches (save the medianoche, which is served on sweeter egg dough bread) follow the standard Cuban toppings of cheese, mayo, mustard, and pickles on Cuban style bread; the main differentiator is your protein of choice. We were all very happy with our sandwiches. We each got regular size with chips; the full thing was plenty for me and my parents both saved half of each of their sandwiches for later. I tried a bite of each sandwich and they were all delicious in their own way. The cheese and mayo make it nice and gooey, but the bread, mustard, and pickles really make the sandwich -- such a distinct and delicious combination. None of the meats were dry, not even the chicken, and the bread was so nice and crispy (or soft, in the case of the medianoche). Although I definitely enjoyed my sandwich, I think the Cuban and medianoche were a little bit better -- I guess they're classics for a reason :) I just tend to not eat a ton of pork, but that's on me lol. I will say I didn't really care for their chip selection. It was mostly a combination of Voodoo and Golden Flake chips. I probably would've gone Voodoo if they'd had a standard flavor available, but they didn't, so I wound up with Golden Flake. I know that Golden Flake originated in Birmingham so I guess you gotta represent, but unfortunately I just don't really like the way their chips taste. I also ordered a cream cheese and guava pastelito for later. They forgot to bring it out with our meals but rectified it quickly when I went to ask about it before we left and gave me a to-go box with it. It was deliciously flaky and the guava was so yummy. I wished for a teeny bit more cream cheese but all in all it was a treat! Overall, a highly enjoyable experience here! I'd love to try some of the other "extras" like the empanadas and tamales, and of course I'd return for another sandwich too. :)
