Awwww! We are back to a one of our favorite! Tonight is date night and Amigos's is standard. Bae and I get settled with chips, cheese dip and salsa with a Boing Mango and Guava real fruit drink. Yum! For entrees, Bae chose the fajita nacho combo with beef, shrimp and chicken. GONE, plate just cleaned. I chose the 1/2 of chicken chargrilled. It comes with a side of refried beans and rice. Everything tastes left over to me. Chicken got good spice, but this is very overcooked chicken, looks like 1/4 instead of 1/2. Service is Epic , as usual, but I am definitely going back to an old favorite next time. Y'all already know, I'll be back. read more

I had an appointment a couple suites down from this restaurant. Now this was not the planned place to take my folks. However, when I saw that we could leave one place and walk here, I checked the reviews on Yelp. We all decided to try it out. Our table had the Fajita Taco Salad, Caldo De Camaron (shrimp soup), Shrimp Fajitas and a side salad. We all enjoyed our food and it arrived to the table in timely manner. I personally had the taco salad and the chicken and vegetables were well seasoned with a nice char. I will definitely go back to try other options but the fajita taco salad will definitely be my go to for a nice meal. read more

Aside from fried chicken, I could eat Mexican almost everyday. I have been going to Amigo's for years... they are hands down my ultimate favorite! I give other places a chance but overall Amigo's always comes out on top with authentic, fresh food... superb service... and affordable prices! I went here last night for dinner... and shockingly I hadn't been in awhile. Omg... I'd missed this place! It was soooooooo good. The BEST chips and salsa with a tasty, yet strong margarita! YES! They offer daily happy hour from 2-7pm which includes their delish lime margaritas for $3. I ordered the hot wings appetizer(fried chicken lover). They were crispy and served with a side of hot sauce and ranch. I also had the Nachos Amigos with steak and chicken! This is one of my go-to dishes... but it was even better! The shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly. The steak was super tender and well marinated! I struggled to eat it all. But it was divine! You already know I'll be back, this time... Very standard issue good ol American Mexican food at good prices with free chips and good salsa. You'll eat well for under $10 but it all tastes generic. Food came out really fast. The beef was too lean for me, a little fat is necessary to keep things moist. The hot sauce was fire and good. Service was okay but they need to check in more. At some point while I was eating the server attempted to take my plate away. I was mostly done but she should have asked first. There are many Mexican restaurants along this stretch of Lorna road. I didn't really notice this place until my friend Austin suggested meeting there for lunch. The restaurant is in the back corner of the strip center that is located at the intersection of Data Drive and Lorna Road. The interior is comfortable, and the decor is pretty typical of Mexican restaurants. Pechuga a la parrila sounds like an exotic dish, but it's translation is literally grilled chicken breast. I ordered the pechuga a la parrila from the lunch menu, and I thought it was excellent. It was a large, thin breast that had been marinated in a combination of seasonings and spices. The meat had a nice flavor, not dry, and had some char from the grill. It is topped with grilled onions that were tasty and an appealing garnishment. The lunch dish includes rice, beans (I asked for black beans instead of refried), and soft tortillas that are served in a foil wrapper. The side of pico de gallo and hot sauce knocked this dish out of the park for me. The hot sauce is muy caliente! Place a couple of slices of chicken in a warm tortilla and top it with the pico and hot sauce. Man, that was good eating! This place is worth checking out. As a bonus, they offer happy hour margaritas everyday from 2-7. read more

Went for the first time off of reviews from Yelp and it did not disappoint us. My Mother had the quesadillas and said it was the best ones she has ever had because the got the shell nice and toasted. My friend got the chicken fajitas and said that the chicken had the best flavor and the onions were caramelized perfectly. My wife and I go here for our Mexican food fix. This is a place to bring the family for the basic Mexican American Fare. On Weekends, those who are more adventurous can try the ceviche. My wife did and found it to be very good. While the chips and salsa are just average, the cheese dip gets excellent marks by all. As I mentioned before the menu is full of standard Mexican food. I have found one menu item that I think that will stand up against any in town. It is menu number 68: Tacos Al Pastor. These are served in flour tortillas. You get three huge ones and Amigos gives you pico de Gallo and a jalapeño Salsa to put on them. The pork within the tacos is red ( a color enhanced by achiote paste) and slightly charred from the griddle. Mixed in with the crunchy savory pork are caramelized pineapple bits that are the perfect foil to the salty meat and spicy jalapeño salsa. These are just fantastic tacos. So good!! Again if you're in the mood for the old standbys such as queso, quesadillas and fajitas, these items are there. If not, then step outside your comforts Zone and Try these tacos al pastor. You will be hooked on them and crave them weekly. read more

Ok why am I just now trying out this place! I love the cute decor and set up in front of the restaurant! Makes for a cute instagrammable photo op! Inside is a typical Mexican restaurant set up - plenty of seating and colorful decor. Service was prompt and our food came out quick as expected! So when it comes to Mexican food, I'm a basic B - give me some classic hard shell beef tacos, rice and beans. Y'all they have one of the better seasoned beef in the tacos! A follow up to Keith's assessment of Amigo's Tacos al Pastor. He is spot on, one of the best taco dishes in the Birmingham metro area! A couple of factual add-ons: Lunch portion is two tacos, dinner portion is three. They offer flour or corn tortillas - I tried corn once, I felt the corn flavor competed with the filling, instead of complimenting it. If you ask, they'll add a side plate of freshly-chopped cilantro, diced white onion, and lime slices for finishing your tacos. They don't charge extra, and it takes these already top-notch tacos to the next level. Highly recommended. The sauce on the side is habanero, not jalapeño. A little goes a LONG way! This place is a gem regardless of what you order. And if you're feeling brave, they do social distancing correctly in their dining room (2020-2021). read more

I never leave reviews but I had too based off my experience. I don't mind broken English but I don't understand why someone is taking my order who can barely understand me. Menu is very underwhelming. You can't add things to your meal without being charged a ridiculous amount. Food is SUPER bland. Has to be cheap ingredients. This time around.. was not as crazy as before, because it was a mild Thursday night. The only going on was the NCAA March Madness. Chips and dip came out prompt once we were seated and it was helpful to have something to munch on. I glanced at the menu and noticed in fine print that the first round of chips are a courtesy, after that there is a charge. Oh by the way, sour cream extra $1.00 with your meal. Now here is the bad part, I had a beef soft taco and beef enchilada. The enchilada tasted fine, but once I hit the soft taco, the meat tasted like I was biting into metal.I will not return here after this second chance visit. read more

Good food had the quesadilla chicken and then taco rice and beans for my daughter and amigos favorita and we loved it the servers are very happy and friendly. Good Mexican restaurant in Hoover. It's never too busy when I go and I'm always happy with the service. Salsa and chips are good, but the queso sometimes firms fast if you don't eat it quick. I usually get the enchiladas Amigo's or the fajitas. Both are good always enjoyable. Their margaritas are a bit strong. They have a special on them at certain times of the week with a better price than others. The juice in them is very fresh compared to some of the other local Mexican restaurants. read more

Came here for the first time with some friends to enjoy the margaritas deals, tacos, and more. One of many Mexican restaurants in the area, but it did have a large menu with many many dishes and options. The chips and salsa were hot and delicious. The margaritas during happy hour pack a good punch after a few. We had tacos which were also pretty good. Definitely a large restaurant that can accommodate small and large parties for family gatherings or fun social events. Friendly service, good food, and not expensive. Came in for a quick lunch. Friendly greeting and quick to be seated at normal lunchtime (just before noon). Couple TV's playing March Madness near where I was seated. Quick to bring out ships and salsa. Really this is where you can learn a lot about a Mexican restaurant. Good salsa is the key! I would rank their salsa a pretty solid 4. Chips are thick and warm and salsa isn't overly chunky. Could have a little more kick, but I think they are trying to make sure everyone can eat it. Went with what I thought would be quick, two crunchy tacos and rice. Lunch came out in less than 5 minutes. Beef was average...good...but nothing special. Rice was the same. The one huge plus for the crunchy tacos was that the shells didn't break. Towards the end they cracked a little, but never totally broke. Staff made sure that I was taken care of the whole time and my drink was never empty. Pretty good sweet tea, by the way. Price is under $10 dollars for chips, entrée, and drink for most of the lunch specials. I would return, but next time I will probably try the chicken or something with steak. read more

The Grande was about the size of a bean burrito from Taco Bell. Fried I cream was good. Reminded me of Chi-Chi's.

I would give it 4 but I had such a great experience today I want people to try it out. This is my first time here so it may not be like this all the time- let's just hope so. I came for lunch and had #14. The beef taco was crunchy and tasty. The beef was better than expected and not greasy. The tamale was one of the best I've ever had from a restaurant in Birmingham. This is our go to spot for Mexican food! They have some of the best mole in Hoover! Their home made corn tortillas are the best. Everyone is always very friendly and the food comes out quickly. Free been dip and salsa just for sitting down! This was sadly the highlight of the visit here. When trying new Mexi-joints... i generally like to to go with a classic Nacho dish (Nachos Supremos in this case). Ehhh... Though not as large, a Nachos Bel Grande from Taco Bell would have been a bit tastier. The nacho dish was served on a large plate, and seemed a bit pre-pepared and popped in the oven... here's why I say that: 1. Food came out in about 5 minutes flat (if not less) 2. The plate itself and food on the bottom was hot along with singed edges on chips, while food on top was literally cold 3. Lettuce and veggies were not only cold, they were a bit wet as if rinsed right before refrigerating So you agree? Pretty obvious right? Along with this, I like to eat my nachos with a fork... everything all mixed together. In this case, that's a good thing. If were to eat my nachos chip by chip, I'd be disappointed. Meat and chips on the bottom of the dish, and lettuce covering the entire top of the dish. In between these two layers were 3 separate "piles" of beans, cheese and sour creme. Really? Melted cheese only in 1 section of my NACHOS??? C'mon! Service was great and decor is nice... nothing too fancy but feels like it should be a fun atmosphere... too bad the new chicken tacos at Taco Bell are a better experience! read more

We arrived about 2PM and the place was fairly empty, except for a large birthday party in one corner. We were seated immediately and given the chance to order fairly quickly. The food came out quickly. The price was decent, and my dish was exactly the right size to fill me up (veggie burrito). My friend's meal (chicken fajitas), at basically the same price, was gigantic. She couldn't finish it and it could be a second meal. The atmosphere is festive and was a good place to talk, at the hour we ate. I visited for the first time last night, and ordered the Bistek Ranchero. The place was busy, but we were quickly seated, and someone quickly came to the table as well. It was definitely crowded, and I was surprised due to the location, which is in the corner of a shopping center. It wasn't overly noisy, though the seating was showing some strong wear in some places. Then again, if the place is always this busy, those seats may wear out quickly! Chips and salsa were good, and more chips were brought out as the first basket was nearing empty. My Bistek Ranchero was served with the typical rice and refried beans, with peppers and onions on the steak. I was also brought a plate of three tortillas, so I sliced up the steak, mixed everything together and rolled it up in the tortillas. It was so good, they could just as well sell burritos with that entire plate as the filling! By BHM standards, This place has delivered the 3 times that we have been there. The staff is very aware and polite, the white queso with the chips is a fave of our daughters now and the tortillas are the best I have found in town. (aside from my own kitchen) :) Enchiladas, tamale and pork tacos are what we have had. Of the 3, the pork was the only one that was a bit off and needed something more, but the others have been solid thus far. This is a fave now for us. read more
