The prices have increased from a Delicious $20 succulent meal to a Disappointing $27 disastrous meal of DRIED OUT PERNIL.....unfortunately due to being famished and having no recourse since it was late I decided not to call that evening.... I was walking by and decided I'm not cooking tonite let me get some wings. So on the mine they have baby chicken wings. I do not like baby chicken wings. The waitress informed me they have Grand chicken wings so I made two orders one with mango sauce the other with whiskey barbecue sauce. I visited on two different occasions once for dinner and once for breakfast and I was impressed both times with food and service. The food is a good portion. The drinks are strong especially that rum punch and everything was well seasoned. The menu is extensive it's so much to choose from so whatever your in the mood for they have you covered. I've been here in the evening, it's somewhat loud because they have music playing or a DJ. It is packed with a mixed crowd. It's only 2 ppl in my party so I don't wait for a table I'm usually at the bar section. But you should called ahead for a larger crowd. The drinks are good and worth the money. I had bookmarked Jimmy's Grand Cafe a while back when I noticed a handful of my Yelp friends had dined here and left positive reviews. Since I took off from work today I decided to come here for lunch with my mother. Jimmy's is located at the corner of Castle Hill Ave and Bruckner Blvd - previously it was a restaurant called Joe & Joe's which was owned by the same people (I think). Walking into the restaurant, the place looks great. It has a very modern, cool decor with a dedicated bar area and an upper level with additional seating. It's labeled as a diner but the decor and food offerings are a tad more upscale than what you would find in a typical diner. The menu has a mixture of Latin and American food. They serve breakfast as well as well as weekend brunch, but since we were here for lunch I decided to just go with a sandwich. I chose the Cuban Midnight - pulled pork, ham, Swiss, and mustard on a garlic panini. The sandwich was good - lots of flavor and the perfect size. Fries come standard as a side but I went with a salad instead which was average but good. Service was good, and overall I enjoyed my meal. Thanksgiving was super hard to find a place to eat during Covid19... After searching all over the East Bronx I found Jimmy's Grand Cafe... I ended up ordering the Thanksgiving special, what an amazing dinner, this by far was the best turkey dinner... I really didn't know what to expect, my highlight was the cream of turkey soup and the flan which was part of the Thanksgiving dinner special, the food and service was amazing... I ordered jumbo shrimp which came with enough mashed potatoes for three plates and a dish of corn. The corn and the shrimp was dry. The corn wasn't even warm with no embellishment to make it appear appetizing which it wasn't. The food wasn't hot. Let's talk about the bread they served. One word:why? It wasn't heated and didn't come with butter. Also, the bread hasn't any flavor and definitely not worth the calories. The garden salad was fresh with the right ingredients. The mojito was okay. A little more mint would have made it better but it was a decent cocktail. The waitress was cool. Her intentions were made clear from the beginning which was to make our stay comfortable. It was my first time to Jimmys's cafe, I was super excited I had heard wonderful things about this place so I was ready to enjoy. However, when I sat at the bar with my friend, we were greeted and served drinks. The bartender/waitress the proceeded to take my friends food order and walked away to put the order in, I was confused. She walked back and didn't say a word. I told my friend that was a bad first impression and I wasn't going to stay to eat. Which was super unfortunate because I was HUNGRY and welling to spend my money.I went to the restroom, my friend told the bartender/waitress what she had done, when I came back she said she was sorry. That's it, I paused for a second to see if she would proceed to fix the situation and she didn't. I even had to pay for my drinks and left. That was an example of poor customer service, she could have simply said "I'll get that order in now" "here's a drink on the house or I'll get your order in" "I sincerely apologize let's make this right" no she clearly didn't want to fix the situation. Churrasco is my favorite thing to order here! I love this place so much! when you pass by out on the street you see it and think oh this could be a good place to eat! And then you walk in and realize it's even better than a good place to eat! the food here is so amazing and flavorful! I LOVE IT SO MUCH! even the desserts are the best! my favorite dessert from there is probably the rice pudding since it's the best! the rice is always soft and good and so is the flavoring! now the churrasco is the best steak in my opinion there! it's so flavorful and it comes with a. side of rice and beans! and just the whole place in general is nice! they host parties and have a DJ some nights. Happy hour is good, $5 strong sangria and creamy piña coladas I saw the drinks being made being that I sat at the bar for the night you definitely getting your money's worth ! I had returned to this establishment for a second time for brunch with friends and this time was horrible. After eating our food, we noticed a cockroach crawling up our booth. The waiters standing by the kitchen noticed us react and kill it and said nothing, but rather walked away as if they didn't notice. We then proceeded to inform our waiter and he then told the "manager" who simply apologized. A guy dressed in regular clothes was told and said he would comp the meal because of this. Asked for bottle water following as I did not want anything they personally handled. I am so confused...three stars because I have been coming to Jimmy's cafe for most of my life, with minimal issue, but I feel this must be addressed. I came with my mother on an early Friday evening. We told our waiter that we needed a bit more time to decide on what we wanted, fine. However, he never returned. He served the guests next to us, and pretty much ignored us. We had our menus closed and he never came to check on us. It was interesting because it wasn't very busy and he posted up across from us and kind of just stared in our direction, but never came to take our order. I admit some fault in this as we could have said something as well, but the situation was...awkward. It wasn't until my mom finally waved him over and asked why he never came back. He says he was waiting for us to be done. We clearly were, but ok.. We ordered fish and chips and empanadas. I've noticed that the price in food had went up, yet the quality was something to be desired. The fish and chips came out too fast to be deemed fresh, and it clearly tasted as though it was microwaved quickly and brought right out. The empanadas confused me as they came with soy sauce and had the consistency of dumplings? Yeah..they were dumplings. I noticed too late and it was confirmed when we got our bill and it said 'dumplings.' How they got dumplings from empanadas is beyond me. I also ordered a margarita. Could have saved money buying a virgin as I did not taste alcohol at all. Overall not a pleasant dining experience. Might return for drinks, who knows. I have Covid. I ordered food on Grubhub and selected contactless delivery. I left a note to leave my order in front of my door as I don't wish to get anyone sick. A woman called me from the restaurant telling me that her delivery person ( who by the way is not from Grubhub) will not be able to find parking and therefore I will need to meet him in the lobby. I told her I have Covid and I cannot yet she continued to argue with me about how I have the leave my apartment to meet her delivery person. This restaurant is not in line with cdc guidelines, they have no regard for sick people and have no issues collecting money for a delivery fee and not using the app I payed for. This will be the last time I will be ordering from here and I will be reporting this place to the bbb as well as the FDA and Cdc. Please think twice before you order here.
