We benefited from her experience and good taste in guiding us through the menu. She ordered a caesar salad with grilled shrimp that looked divine! I stuck with the classic and found it simple and satisfying She recommended one of the other salads (the asian salad) to my mom- with grilled chicken breast or shrimp. My mom's first job waitressing job in highschool was at a greek diner and upon discovering the Johnson Diner is greek, she had to try their Mousaka $21 served with a generous portion of greek salad. This diner in Riverdale was close to our friend's place and we decided to have lunch here. It has that Greek diner feel and our server was an Italian-Greek jolly guy with a big smile. The menu was varied and large. My husband got the Chicken Pot pie special, I got the Chicken Shish Kebab. Both were delicious. Nicely done and seasoned. The diner has some outdoor seating but the majority of the tables are inside. Large TVs around the dining room allow for people to watch shows while dining. The prices were reasonable and the service and flavors were excellent. Definitely a recommended place in Riverdale. read more

An excellent spot for high level diner food. Service is friendly if not that quick and food tasty and fresh. It's basic diner decor, although the seats could use a wipe (children must have been standing on the seats of our booth). Lots of seating. The pit stickers could have used 30 more seconds to ensure a full-cooked taste for the casing, not just the tips. The sauce had a flavor that lingered in a good way throughout the afternoon. Came here on weekday morning and it was generally empty and were seated right away. Cute classic/retro diner vibe with a menu you'd expect at a diner. This place is a joke. They constantly have only one or two servers. I've gone there two days in a row. And the outdoor dining is very nicely set up. I have a dog, so I like to sit outside. The first time, they told me they only have one server so I could not sit outside. Fine, so I went somewhere else. Second time I came there I asked again to sit outside because I have a pet with me. The hostess actually asked me, is it set up? I responded I guess so. But honestly, what kind of question is that, you're the one who works here and you're asking me if your outdoor dining is set up? Why would I be asking to sit out there if it's not set up?! Odd, if you ask me. Anyway, I thought I'd give the place a chance, so I sat down outside. I was waiting for a couple minutes and no one came out to greet me or even give me a menu or water. So I started timing the person to see when they would come out. I waited over seven minutes and still nobody came out. So I went back inside to see the hostess and no one came to the stand. I finally spoke to a waitress because I flagged her down. And I told her that it's inappropriate to tell me I can sit outside and then no one even comes out to greet me or give me a menu or anything. She gave me a look, as if she was annoyed I was even complaining. YES, I'm complaining that the service and manners here are definitely subpar, to say the least. Too bad, because the food is good. Service sucks. At least have some manners and greet your customers or tell them you're busy. And if you're going to set up the outside dining and tell someone they can sit out there, then maybe at least tell me it will be quite a wait and then I could decide for myself if I want to sit there wasting my time, with a baby too, unattended for nearly 10 minutes. Waste of time. Go to Savor or Moss Cafe instead. read more

I enjoyed going in here often but they were expensive for breakfast, but now during the week they have a breakfast special and it's totally worth it. Their whole wheat bread is absolutely amazing and the service with Paco is outstanding. Ever since they got the breakfast special we go in there at least once to twice a week. I highly recommend this place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their meat for the burgers are Pat La Freida and if you know anything about meat this is the top of the line. I thought other places had good burgers but wow this tops it by far. You spend a little more money for the burger but who cares for the quality you are getting. I would say that if there was parking we would come more often but due to only street parking we go once a week. I wish we went more as the food is amazing and they open at 8am. This is their second day. They took over and renovated the old Blue Bay that had been open for over fifty years. The landlord raised the rent to an unaffordable level. You can see that the new owners are really trying. Space is nice and clean with smiles from everyone. Time will tell. read more

I think I already have a new favorite in the huevos rancheros - although I'll have to try the old reliable corned beef hash and eggs next time. This eatery never impresses me. The crispy bacon I requested was not crisp enough. And recently I ordered a Greek salad with tuna salad added. I expected the tuna salad to be in mound-form atop the salad. That's what you would expect too, I'm sure. But no, for some inexplicable reason the Johnson chops the tuna salad into unrecognizable tiny little lumps and mixed them throughout the salad. Ehhh... not really a fan of this diner! I ordered from The Johnson (on Uber Eats), and the order was a bit disappointing. While my burger was nice and juicy... the chicken parm was just NOT IT! However, I still decided to give the diner a try because sometimes it is not fair to judge a place based on Uber Eats. So... We went to The Johnson on a Friday afternoon- place was fairly empty. The brightness of The Johnson is very modern; it is not a traditional cozy diner. The booths are small- the space from the booth itself to the table is so small, that my son was not able to sit on my lap comfortably (and I am pretty slim). The bathroom, while large, did not have a diaper changing station... I want to say they had high chairs- but one was not offered... I would have declined, but it is still worth noting that I was not offered one. Now to the food- if you come here, just stick to a burger! My burger was cooked to perfection- it was well done and still juicy! We tried the chicken and waffles and the chicken was bland... it had no color or taste! You know that beautiful crispy skin on fried chicken? Yeah- you do not get that here! Oh and the mojito pitcher did not taste like it had any liquor. Once we brought this to our server's attention, she put more liquor in it. We walked in at 12:30pm on a Sunday and, literally were seated in a single fluid movement. The service was incredibly fast and attentive but not rushed in any way. I orderd the eggs benedict which came with a side of home fries. The eggs were poached with a perfectly runny yolk and the hollendaise sauce was buttery with a hint of lemon, aka perfection. The homefries had green peppers and onions in them. They could have been a little crispier in my opinion but they were still a good side. It was a large portion. This Diner is just what the neighborhood needed. Who doesn't love a good diner. Establishment is clean and staff is amazing. They're vibrant knowledgeable of the items on the menu plus so nice. Went on Saturday maybe a 7 minute wait. It was a beautiful day so I ordered a Frozen Froze with a fat cheeseburger with onions rings. The portion sizes were huge and so flavorful. I went to this place today for the first time and it was amazing! There was a wait, so we sat at the bar. The waitress Giselle was amazing, she was very personable and funny. The food was really good as well, my cousin and I both got omelette along with the French toast bites which were to die for. We also ordered expresso martinis which I was skeptical about at first given that this is a diner, but OMG it was great! What was the most amazing, was the bill! It's really nice to have a new, fresh diner in Riverdale. My husband and I like coming here for quick bunch dates. I'd have given them 5 stars but I think the food quality is declining a little bit since when they first opened. I always order the eggs Benedict. The first time, perfect! The second time, my eggs were over poached, the third time, my eggs were under cooked (the egg whites were runny) and the sauce was broken and cold. :/ The service is great and I think this is definitely the best diner in Riverdale.
