We have quite a few vehicles - daily drivers and some classics. Jim and his team have worked on most of them at some time or another! They helped us troubleshoot a rebuild of a 1968 Camaro, done lots of maintenance on our 1998 Dodge Durango and 2004 Toyota 4Runner, and several other vehicles. They are super knowledgeable and honest - they will figure out what is wrong and talk you through the costs and timing of different options to solve the problem. Hate to say it, because up to May of 2021 they were our go-to mechanic for years, but they are hostile to vaccination and masks. So they'll sit in your car, maybe sneeze or cough or touch items, and then hand the car back. I have NO idea why this attitude persists but it means that for the rest of their working life they pose a risk to old folks like myself. I have such regret for this attitude as Charlie and the rest are, otherwise, just stand up folks. But I guess crisis brings the worst out in folks. Otherwise I have no idea. read more

My experiences with Jim's started around 1990 when I had trouble with my Subaru GL wagon. I first took it to the Subaru dealer in B'ham for an estimate. They actually went ahead and fixed it without ever calling me. During the time it was at the dealer I had called around and one of my calls was to Jim's (then Jim & Dave's) and they told me a cost range the repair would likely be. The dealer's price was way higher so I told them to put everything back the way it was since I never authorized the repair and took it to Jim's. I still have that Subaru and it's always been repaired at Jim's. They have been great over the years at finding many new Subaru parts for my now 30+ year old car at bargain prices! I have found Jim's to be very accommodating, accurate and timely with any repairs I've needed. read more

Owning a rather rare high performance vehicle, it is hard to find a mechanic I can trust to work on my car. Jims is the only place I have trusted for years now. I have experienced some pretty undesirable automotive shops here on Whatcom County. It's always a pleasure getting Charlie or Kent on the phone when I call. They have gotten me parts for my car quick and always reasonably priced. Kyle, Trent, and Tyler (just the ones I know) have always done quality work and usually complete it faster then first quoted, which always saves me $$. It is about a 30 minute car ride to the shop from where I live, which is the only downfall for me, but I am always willing to make the drive. My most recent trip to Jims they saved me about $900. I thought I needed a new A/C compressor because mine wasn't working. Of course instead of just ordering me a new compressor and installing as I requested, they did a bit of digging to find out it was just a connection gone bad. I ended up only paying for about 2 hours of labor and I was on my way. Thanks Jim's Auto, you really are one of the superior automotive shops in Whatcom County. read more

My experience with Jim's has been exceptional. My grandpa has known Jim since the 70s. I started going there about a year ago. They have done great work and great customer service and great prices. The other day my car had problems and dropped my car off and they got me back on the road quickly. Charlie the service advisor is in my opinion one of the best in the industry, he explained everything very well and helped me have the confidence that everything would work out. I was brining my car to them when I used to live in Sumas. I liked the service and the quality of work . I live in Seattle now. Recently I had a problem with my car. I did not know where to bring my car in Seattle - I don't know what place I can trust , who can do a good job and be honest.I decided to drive to the Jim's Automotive even I was afraid that my car wont make it. Great example of going above and beyond service expectations! I am a grandmother and live in Bellevue. On "early release" days from the school I drive over to Everson and do the drop off/pick up routine for my daughter and son in law. My car is a 2013 Acura RDX and is in good condition with regular dealer service in Bellevue. However, yesterday when I dropped my grandson off at school my car began to make a scraping sound. I remembered my daughter mentioning to me how wonderful the people at Jims auto service in Everson have been when she needed her car service. I stopped in and was told they had a full schedule but they would fit me in later that day. When I drove away from their shop the sound was worse. I was only a couple of blocks away when I received a call on my cell phone. It was Jims auto service. They said "you need to turn around and come back in - right away. They immediately got my car in and found the problem. A rock had wedged itself somewhere in my brake and was scraping. It wasn't serious and you can make it home without any problems" I was reassured. I will need to replace my brake pads soon though. They would not accept any payment and I was never pressured to get the brake service with them. My daughter said; "Mom, that is our small town service". You can't get that in Bellevue! read more

My husband has been taking our vehicles to Jim's for more than 15 years. However, my experience in May was so disappointing that we will never be going back. They misdiagnosed my truck and replaced the fuel injectors (even though the computer diagnostic report indicated that the injectors weren't damaged). They originally charged me $4,000 for replacing them even though the problem wasn't fixed, and they weren't damaged. After some heated discussions, they agreed to charge us for the parts only (still 2,900 something). Needless to say, I'm disgusted by their recklessness with my money and the lack of respect for our long term service with them. I would have expected them to be more apologetic and willing to eat the cost since it was clear that the injectors were not the problem. They didn't even offer and got upset when my husband complained about not wanting to pay the full cost. Truthfully, my husband is much more cordial than me, as I plan to send a demand letter in the morning asking for return of the full payment. This experience was extremely disappointing and I do not recommend that anyone use their services. Customers expect businesses to "show up" when it counts. And when they don't, they lose loyal customers. If they had been honorable in their resolution of this, I would have continued to sing their praises (as I have done for the past 15+ years). The only thing is, I hadn't had to deal with anything complex with them up to this point, so I didn't have an opportunity to know better. Shari read more

My daughter took her car there because the brakes were bad. $800 and some later we supposedly have a new brake system THAT STILL DOESN'T WORK. As in the brakes barely stop and then stick. They said to bring it back for an adjustment so she did. They were no better. Took it to Les Schwab in Ferndale and they made the adjustment for free. From what they could tell no adjustment had been made at all and they also told us the reason they were sticking in the first place was the brake pedal assembly. Oddly enough, Jim's never mentioned looking at the brake pedal assembly. Never going there again. This wasn't the first less than fabulous experience I'd had there but it was the worst, the most expensive and THE LAST. read more

you can tell a lot about a business when things go wrong and how they react. I had gotten some work done and the parts were faulty, we didn't realize the issue until the warranty had expired by a month or so (classic). I thought I was doomed to pay for the same repairs over again, but no Charlie talked to the parts distributor and got the parts warranty anyways and they are standing by thier own work and doing the labor free of charge. That's what I'm talking about. They are not the cheapest around but they do good work and stand behind it. Thanks guys read more
