A couple months ago my battery and alternator died - Bham Auto was super kind and responsive, did a great job on my car, was fair with pricing and quick to repair. I'm giving only four stars because I did have to return for battery issues this week and they charged a bit much for only looking at it, but I understand their time and expertise should be rewarded. Otherwise, I had a good experience here and anytime they call with updates I didn't feel as they were talking down to me or trying to oversell things I didn't need. read more

I have had my oil changes done at Bellingham Automotive since I moved here 3 years ago. They have always provided great service & warned me of things that may not need done right now but may in the future. It's nice the have a shuttle service, too. I asked this last time if they could wash the inside of my windshield, as my arms are too short to get it done well. They took care of that too! They are reasonably priced as well. I have been getting my vehicle serviced here for about 10 years. Each and every time they are friendly, efficient, communicate clearly, and never try to upsell me on anything. I strongly recommend them for any vehicle repair needs. Also, their prices always come in like 50% of what the dealer wants for the same parts and service. This time I went in for an oil change on my truck, and they were kind enough to hook it up to the computer to identify an error code, which unfortunately requires me to go to the dealership because it's still under warranty. I like these guys so much I am paying to get my oil changed instead of going to the dealer where it would've been part of my purchase plan. read more

I just recently got this app or I would've written a review a long time ago, but better late than never, right? I had gotten a recommendation from AAA about Bham Automotive after telling the AAA rep that I generally have issues with mechanics that like to invent problems with my car bcuz I'm a lone female; they seem to think I know nothing about auto repairs and start urging me to fix the fallangees (get the reference? LOL, I spelled it that way on purpose) .. and I've had a lot of people say oh, they don't do that ..and to that, I say BS, I have a million examples, get comfortable, this'll take a while Anyway, in March '21, my car sprung a leak (see photo) and I looked at it pretty well and determined it was the water pump. Called and got the referral from AAA, called the shop and got a guesstimate but couldn't go in bcuz I couldn't afford the repair -but then woohoo, another stimulus check was issued!! I had it towed in on a Tuesday, on Thursday right before closing a guy called, said yep it's the water pump but I can't get the part til tomorrow--okay So on Friday, it's getting close to closing time, a guy called me and said okay the water pump's been replaced BUT (there's always a but!!) while doing that, they went over it with a fine-toothed comb (why?) and found that there's also a leak in the timing chain cover.. so there's still gonna be a leak.. to fix that as well as the water pump it's gonna run about $1700 (our stimulus was 1200, remember?) So I said uh.. uh.. I don't have enough money for that He started saying stuff like oh, come on, you can come up a little more, can't you? And then he did a high-pressure sales tactic and told me there's only **one part left** and by the time I come back it might be gone and they can't get another one OH COME ON Well, this is a long review, sorry, so suffice it to say that I said no, went and picked up my car, paid the bill and went home and proceeded to tell everyone I knew or ran across (I didn't have this app at the time) that Bham Automotive is just another shop that tries to take advantage of lone women bcuz they don't think women know anything about cars OR sales tactics And may I add, there DID continue to be DRIPPING.. but you know, I got a stop leak product (NOT Barrs Leak, NEVER get that!!) from Wally World for $12.. and knock on wood, it's still okay today ..and also the drips were coming from the head gasket area, NOT the timing cover ((which does happen to run fluid thru it in my model of car, which was an education for me bcuz in all my other cars it had oil going thru -Google it, 2002 Malibu LS V6)) Oh and I should mention, if you get repairs there, you get a coupon for a car wash on Sunset -- WoooHoooo read more

I wish there was a no star option. This place, as many other reviewers say, the up selling is out of control. There is one thing to be thorough but to suggest $3000 of work to just get a $1000 job is ridiculous. $3000 work on a $4500 car that is a 1998. If you just stopped at the transmission flush and rear end oil change that would have been good. Certainly reasonable. But then suggest it needed a bunch of other work to scare the customer is where this place goes wrong. Also never go in for just an oil change. Especially if you never brought that vehicle in. They will charge a bumper to bumper inspection without telling you. Thats a basic oil change for $130. And then they can up sell you more work to be done. They pretend they are doing you a favor. Yeah right. It is a very big shop with many employees. You will be paying extra for that. I have asked another well known mechanic that also hosts a radio show about their business practices. They said...well they have to pay for all that fancy equipment some how. Dan who is the service manager does not know when to stop. When called out on this behavior he just doubles down. Even when told to stop talking. He has no awareness. He was agitating me and kept on talking even when I told him to stop. Seriously. I had to tell him that he does not know when to quit. I did not want to make a scene in the lobby. One of the most unaware individuals I have ever meet. read more

I took my carin for regular service and a new battery. As always, the service was high quality and the staff friendly and professional.

I brought my vehicle here to get my windshield wiper linkage fixed about a month ago. They were super quick in getting back to my online inquiry. They were able to get my car into their shop the same day to diagnose it. When I dropped off my car, i asked them to please keep my steering wheel lock on if they need to keep it overnight and the guy said no problem. I got a call back a couple of hours later from the gentleman who I initially spoke with and he asked how come I never show up with my car. I informed him that my car was dropped off a couple of hours ago and one of his mechanics had taken it. He then apologized for the mis-understanding and we hung up. Later on the same day, around closing time, he calls me to let me know the price for my windshield wiper linkage fix. He also informed me that they opted to place my car on their lift to inspect the brakes and inspected my car for a bunch of other things I didn't ask for. He tried to upsell me for over $1,100 in repairs. From a business perspective, I can understand up-selling and trying to generate more revenue for the business--I can even appreciate it. I also understand the reasoning you give is for the customers benefit. However, I informed Bellingham Automotive that I was aware of the other issues prior to dropping it off, to disregard everything else as it's scheduled for service with my regular mechanic. What bothers me is they didn't listen and they spent a bunch of unnecessary time looking for repairs (none of which were critical btw) that resulted in my car being kept over night. Additionally, I drove by in the evening to look at my vehicle and noticed it was left with my steering wheel lock off. When I came to pick up my car the next day, my bill was $100 higher than the price we agreed on the previous day. I was told my cost for diagnosing the problem was $100 (something I already had done prior to bringing it in. You guys knew it was the wiper linkage). Then my cost for fixing the linkage was $300. So when they told me it was $500, I told them I didn't mind paying a fair price for my repair, but trying to add $100 to my bill wasn't cool and it was very shady of them to do that. The gentleman asked if I wanted to speak with his manager, I told him no, his business was shady and to just charge my card because I wanted to leave. He went in anyway to get his manager, who happened to be the same guy I spoke with on the phone and who lost track of my car. He came out and gave a bunch of reasons to justify the reasoning for the price and that I likely mis-heard him on the initial quote. I know what I heard and I definitely didn't hear anything incorrectly. I told him I didn't want to hear anymore excuses or reasons why my bill was off by $100 and to just charge my card so I could leave. He came out with my bill that had an adjustment of -$100 and it reads "courtesy credit" LOLLLL. The people are are very nice, they have friendly attitudes but it doesn't justify my experience here in anyway. They get 2 stars because the work on the car was actually pretty good but I don't think I'll coming back here again. read more

I was recommended to the shop by one of my dad's buddies. The check engine light was on. I went in without an appointment and they got me in immediately. They found that nothing was wrong and turned it off. They didn't charge me a thing! I recently went in again when a break light and blinker were out; I only had about 20 minutes and was only expecting to get a quote of how much it would be. They said that they could take a look and get me out in under 15 minutes. They came back and told me the only issue was that the bulbs were dead and they had replaced them. THEN THEY TOLD ME THEY NEVER CHARGE FOR REPLACING BULBS! I asked if I could tip someone and they also refused that. This place is amazing! They are always extremely efficient and welcoming. I'm fairly savvy with cars and the 'extras' are not welcome. I recommended they speak with my previous shop. They did. They will drive you to work while you're car is being fixed (even for an oil change) and come pick you back up so you're never really inconvenienced! I do not live in Bellingham, so this is my only experience with Bellingham Automotive. In the darkness, I backed up into a ditch in my old commuter car that I bought cheap. It needed a couple parts of the undercarriage replaced, and was towed to Bellingham Automotive at the recommendation of the tow company. The work took a long time to complete, in part because (they reported to me) a forklift damaged the replacement parts in transit. I had to call two or three times for a status update. The delay isn't their fault, but I would like to have been kept better informed. Although they replaced the damaged parts, they did not pull out the clumps of dirt and bits of branches that were trapped behind the bumper, some of which is clearly visible from the side of the car. It seems like it would take them 30 seconds to do while they were under the car. They tried to clean my battery connections, but I think it hurt more than helped. I'm not sure why they touched the battery. I know it is good safety practice to disconnect the battery when working under the hood, but they were working on the undercarriage. Business tips: 1. Email updates on progress would be a big plus. 2. 30 seconds of removing dirt under the car from when it went into the ditch would have shown good attention to detail. read more

Bellingham Automotive is everything you want in auto repair. Honest and will only do what is necessary. I've been going there for 3 years and they talked me out of several repairs that weren't necessary or that I could hold off on for several months. Recently, I went in for a brake line repair that was a few hundred dollars. It was discovered that my fuel system needed to be replaced due to rust on my vehicle from the east coast. They fixed the brake lines and then put in about 5 hours with the fuel line work. They didn't charge me for all the time they put into it, and only charged a hundred bucks for parts as the car was only good to sell for scrap by that point. They could have easily charged the time and cost of the original repair plus the work on the secondary issue, but ate the cost themselves. It really helped us out and built confidence that I can trust them for the future. read more

We had a broken tailgate handle on our Toyota Tundra and only two hours to catch the ferry to Alaska. And of course we have a locked tonneau cover with an in bed storage system with pull out drawers containing all our gear. They said come on by and they would take a look. While they didn't have the parts they were able to get it opened and showed me a work around, all in ten minutes. And they didn't even charge me when I was ready to pay almost anything. Bellingham Automotive provides the best automotive service I've ever experienced. They've got a courteous and caring culture that hits or surpasses (as Brandon said) Nordstrom service levels. Here's a story to back it. We brought our 2004 van in for a mystery Check Engine condition. What started as 'replace O2 sensors' began to spiral into replacement brake computer, then adaptive cruise control. Their service team stepped in and said "Do you mind if we get a second opinion?" They took the van to a different OEM dealer, who researched and re-thought. Ultimately, Bellingham Automotive's approach to service SAVED us thousands of dollars. They didn't have to do that. It's easy to pass the buck and blame the OEM. They didn't. They put their customer first. (They even bent over backwards to get the van back to us before the weekend.) Like my other favorite service business in Bellingham (Discount Tire) - these guys have earned our business for decades to come. I don't shop tires, and I won't shop auto service. I'm happy to pay for fantastic service from a company that clearly cares a bunch about their customers and employees, and does a terrific job at their profession. Can't recommend them highly enough. Awesome executive decision, Derek. Brought my l'il Honda in for LOF and ck rf wheel noise. No noise, so decided to do (long-overdue) hydraulics/coolant flush. Turns out the radiator tank was disintegrating. Derek couldn't reach me, but knows me and my car. He saved me money, time anf grief by deciding to replace my radiator now. It's sad to me that there are so many people that are happy with this place, all I can think is money must not be a object. I'm not a poor man and I've never been know to be tight with my money. If something's broke I fix it. I've been to a lot of good mechanics in my life. And always felt like they worked for there money. Not always have I liked it because giving away your money sucks. Anyhow Bellingham automotive has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a bunch of fancy diagnostic tools , cameras, technology, and I get that. But if you have a oil leak I don't need a fancy to to tell me that. They really do over charge. It's really sad that they do that, I would love to have made a realationship with them because they are all really polite, professional acting, clean, there shop is spotless, great coffee selection, all kinds of fancy stuff that you the customer are paying for. So if you like to pay for fancy stuff just to get a set of spark plugs wires changed. You are of way better class of person then I am. They lost my business and I am sorry for that. After getting my van back from having the fuel pump replaced ($1,300), there was obviously a major problem with the wheelchair lift on the side doors. Denial all around that it was ever touched. Yeah it could have been the tow truck driver I guess... somehow. Or a random failure with two different parts of the system that just happened to occur while not in use over the weekend in their parking lot. Last night I dropped my vehicle off for a Wednesday appointment to replace a broken wheel stud. Today I called them around 1:30 for an update. I was informed there are 2 sizes of studs for my vehicle and they brought in the wrong one but hope to still get it out tonight for me. An hour later I received the call saying it wasn't going to happen. Now I have to be without for another day. So rather than bringing in both sizes to ensure they have the correct one, they guess wrong at the expense of the customer. Sorry, not the type of shop I want to deal with. read more

My husband and I have been going to Bellingham Automotive for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. They have a comfortable lobby if you want to wait and a shuttle to work and back if you need it. They always alert me when it looks like I might need something down the road but they never push me to get it done now. One time I had my winter tires in the back that I was going to get put on. They called Discount Tire to find out there was an hours long wait (snow was coming). Bellingham Automotive put them on for me at no charge so I wouldn't have that long wait. I price compared Bham automotive with the local dealer and it was cheaper. When the service writers recommended work, it didn't feel pushy, just a recommendations.
