The moment I took my seat, I was given a thorough run down on the menu and its contents. It was quick, easy to understand, despite me being so anxious at first-- as I'm not the type to eat out often. Then, after I've given my detailed order, I gave the time to look around on my table. It was dark wood, with warm lighting that complimented the restaurant's aesthetic. The music choice was odd, but it was subtle in the background. It was clean, well kept, a little loud-- but that didn't stop me from enjoying my time there. Now the food, I ordered JINYA Tonkotsu Black (no garlic chips, no fried onion, or spicy sauce.) I've had my fair share of ramen, different shops, cheap, homemade, expensive. But I couldn't remember how long it's been since I've had such soft, velvety broth in my bowl. The noodles were excellent, cooked to perfection, and the meats were just as tasty. I've been to many Jinya Ramen locations, while the food maintained the expected standard and excellent consistency. The staff in this location are well mannered, with accountable nature and great service skills. Kim and Karen did great, the new crepe item was also very good. Stopped by for a late dinner with my grandsons and my daughter and son-in-law. It was about an hour before closing, and service was still on point. We were promptly seated, and our food was out really quick! Hot and fresh also. The ambiance is casual. This is a smaller restaurant, but they still get the job done. Unfortunately, I didn't eat a ramen bowl, due to my allergies, but I opted for the pork gyoza and the sautéed broccolini. Both were delicious!!! Jinya is a classic. They have several different locations, in the heights, spring, and Montrose, etc. They are all consistent with the menu and service everywhere. I love the shio for a clearer broth, but if you're a fan of rich, get the tonkatsu. Miso soups are also super popular too! I will say, I wasn't the biggest fan of the birria ramen, but I know it's gotten more popular lately in other ramen spots. They have good options for people new to ramen but it's a consistent place for the price. They have a selection of cookies dishes, ramen and different drinks (both alcohol or non-alcoholic). For example, they have Saporo beer available and non alcoholic cocktails. Service is fast! You get your food in under 10 minutes if they aren't busy. I have been coming to this Jinya location for over four years now and honestly its my favorite in the greater Houston area. The staff is friendly and attentive. If there is every anything wrong with your meal they are quick to resolve it. The food is pretty consistent with quality and we are big fans of the spicy chicken ramen with an egg added and thick noodles. We also enjoy their gyoza and salmon poke tacos. A great late night decision to have a ramen bowl when hunger pangs that had me wandering for something to eat. I went with a spicy chicken ramen. The broth was excellent. Very well seasoned and ooo so damn good. It gave me that kick/ spark tag the body was wanting. While I can't describe a lot of the ingredients/fixings that came in the bowl, they were all pretty good. The one thing that I thought should have been more was the quantity of protein, in my case... chicken. There was not enough chicken in the bowl. When you come to JINYA, come hungry! Start with the JINYA Tonkotsu Black, our perennial go to dish. It contains an extra meaty and flavorful pork broth: pork chashu, kikurage, green onion, nori dried seaweed, seasoned egg (you can substitute for a "special egg" which means just hard boiled). garlic chips, garlic oil, and fried onion. I repeat, you will be slurping up the deep, meat infused broth all the way to the bone. It's that good. The pork chasu is wonderfully slow cooked and soft and tender. I added the gyoza and salad combination. I would definitely would want a little more gyoza for the price ($6.80), but we gave one to each of my four kids and said that was their entire lunch (just kidding of course). On to the chicken and wonton ramen. It comes with wonton, kikurage and green onion. It has a thinner broth that leaves you with a little lighter feeling, but still is all the while flavorful. If you want something on the lighter side with less toppings, this is a great choice. I can say the same about the shrimp wonton ramen. Overall it had a more saltier and shrimp laden broth, but still was thick and flavorful. I so appreciated the complexity and the slight nuances of each of the ramen broths. Reminds me of some of the great ramen places that are so prolific in my hometown (LA). Overall, we love the fact that we can hit a JINYA either on 1960 or off 290.
