We cannot express enough how amazing DJ Simon was! Although we definitely put him to work with our…read morePolish music playlist, he absolutely nailed it! All of my Polish family had the best time even our friends who don't speak a word of Polish were out on the dance floor loving every song. His transitions between Polish hits and American wedding favorites were seamless, keeping the energy high and the dance floor packed the entire night. Simon played for five straight hours without a single dull moment -- not one song had an empty dance floor! He also perfectly handled our Polish traditional toasts after the ceremony and did such a great job pronouncing the Polish words -- it meant so much to our family. Our ceremony music was flawless, especially my groom's walk-in song! Simon timed it perfectly, and it truly gave us chills. We first loved him when he DJed our friends' wedding, and we feel so lucky to have had him for ours. Thank you, Simon, for making our wedding day unforgettable. You brought our vision to life and made the night one giant celebration of love, culture, and fun. Highly, highly recommend!!!

From the introductory Zoom meeting about our story/preferences and vibe, through our multiple specific requests for entrances and where we wanted what, he was friendly, professional, and awesome. He had wonderful, on-point recommendations throughout the process for us, and it was easy to share music and ideas with him. The event itself was executed flawlessly - we had a ton of guests even asking if we could share his playlist in totality, because people enjoyed it so much. Everyone danced throughout - it was really perfect. Thank you so much! Highest possible recommendation.

The reason why I gave 1 star is because he is very expensive and did a very poor job. I gave him a…read moresong list a few months before and told him I wanted old school hip hop and R&B which is music from the 80's and 90's. It was my 50th birthday and while I was getting dressed I could hear the music and was very disappointed. I told my coordinator please tell him to play the music I gave him. To his credit, he changed the music choice but not to what I gave him. By the way, my dad complained about the music too. He said the first 2 hours no one was dancing because no one knew the music he was playing. My dad said that he and two other people asked him to change the music. He never even scratched the turntables which is a normal practice when DJs play old school hip hop. He just played music from his computer and made a few announcements. At one point, I even had to ask him to play one of my favorite songs by Meek Mills which again was on my song list (I'm a true Philly girl at heart) There were several times I even glanced up at the booth and he was sitting chilling talking to his colleague who worked the photo booth. After the party and everything settled down, I looked over my song list and noticed that he only played 4 songs from my list of 30 songs. I reached out to him and shared this information with him along with my original playlist, and his response was, I played most of the songs, and when you were on the dance floor I played the songs you liked, and I kept people on the dance floor. First of all, I only danced 3 times and that was with me asking him to play 2 of those songs. As far as keeping people on the dance floor that was the last hour or two of my 5 hour party. I was paying the bill and it was my birthday celebration, so all of my songs should have been played. I was really looking forward to him coming and expected much more from him, especially for what he charged me (over $2000 including photo booth) Maybe I just caught him on a bad day, but I was very disappointed.

He was recommended to us by a friend who used his service for her wedding and she could not start talking about how much fun he was. Chris chatted with us on the phone prior to the official booking to let us know his style and to find out what we were looking for. My husband and I could tell he was the one from our initial conversation, as we felt like we knew him already. Chris then met up with us a few weeks before the wedding to put our minds at ease by going over all the basic. He has a great site he gives you a login/password to once you book with him. The site allows you to create a playlist, a do not playlist, and select things such as your first dance, parents dances, bouquet toss, etc. Super easy to use and gives you ideas for songs as well. We did not have a band for our ceremony, so Chris provided all the music for our bridal party and my entrance. He also mic'd up our officiant and my husband which was really helpful as the venue did not provide this for us. Light music was also provided for our cocktail hour, then the real fun started! Chris did something very unique as far as introducing our bridal party which we are still receiving compliments about. Prior to the wedding, Chris had us fill out brief questionnaires about our bridal party and then had my husband and I separately fill our brief questionnaires about each other. Some example questions would be: tell me an embarrassing story about so and so or voted most likely to. It created a very fun set of unique introductions, making everyone laugh and our bridal party to have their own special moment. For our introduction, our quests got to hear our love story and some funny moments created throughout our relationship. After the intros and speeches (which Chris also provided the mics for), our dance floor was jumping for the next three hours. Everyone danced nonstop as the music was absolutely perfect and kept the dance floor packed with at least 100 guests at all times. I could not recommend Chris Marx enough and our wedding would not have been the same without him! Book him, you will have an absolutely perfect wedding! PS: he also took a video of our ceremony, the speeches, and our intros and sent them to me after the wedding. This was extremely thoughtful and unexpected, we were almost sorry we booked a videographer! Haha Thanks again Chris, we will find a reason to work with you again in the near future!

Beware! Out of over 500 reviews, I've only given a handful of poor reviews. I gave all the vendors…read moreat my wedding 5 stars except for Mike. As Mike has been in the business for 20 years and the glowing reviews on Yelp, WeddingWire, and the Knot, I made the mistake of booking him. Mike loves to march to his own beat and is extremely disorganized, ill-prepared, lazy, inattentive to details, unprofessional, outdated, lackadaisical, and quite frankly a bozo. While I was impressed by all of the vendors at my wedding, I was seething and cringing by Mike's countless mistakes. As other Yelpers have noted, Mike is highly skilled at mixing beats for Hindu/American fusion weddings and getting everyone to hit the dance floor. However, Mike caters to the crowd rather than to the bride and groom. There's "no magic", here are Mike's top 8 blunders which I confronted him at the end of my wedding night: #1: Using an old schedule that was 2 months old! After 3 phone calls with Mike and sending him a few revised schedules based on feedback that he provided, he used the 1st schedule that I sent him with wrong bridal party names, songs, and times! He neglected all of the changes that we discussed on the phone and failed to use the new schedule that I sent a week before the wedding like he requested. When 5 names are mentioned, but only 2 women and a man walk out to "Sister Sledge" playing, that's a blunder! #2: Missing Cues/Repeated stepping of glasses. My fiancee and I are highly private people and don't enjoy long kissing sessions in front of our parents and friends. We actually took out all kissing pics from our slideshow. During the reception, after a big frown and shaking of the head after the 1st stemming of glasses, Mike initiated and continued to round up the crowd for additional stemming of glasses. It got so bad that some of the bridal party members broke some of the glasses in retailation. The stemming of the glasses is a topic that I also wish Mike discussed with us before the wedding so we could have easily prevented this embarrassing mishap. #3 Announcing the grooms name first and then the bride's name. A big no-no! "Peter and Aarti Pruitt". Mike believes in men first, even at weddings. #4 Playing songs on the "Do NOT play list". I hate "Gangnam Style" with a passion and it was among the 20 don't play list. Not only did Mike happily play the song, but he refused to change the song when I asked him to! That wasn't the only one... #5 Begging for a Big Tip. Mike isn't shy about charging top dollar $3K and the audacity to ask my father for a big tip before the event! The bozo loves to overpromise and underdeliver. My dad was way too nice to tip him $200. As a firm believer of tips, I honestly would NOT tip him. #6: Trying to Upsell at the WRONG time. Mike and I had a couple of minutes before the reception started. Rather than using this crucial time to discuss making any last-minute changes to the schedule (ex. moving things up as we wanted to skip sunset pics due to the weather), instead Mike kept trying to repeatedly sell us on the dhol guy. I hate BHANGRA, why would I pay extra for it? #7 Forgetting to play the cake cutting song. I was looking forward to hearing my favorite Baby Love during the cake cutting, too bad I never got the chance to hear it! #8 Not taking full ownership. After confronting Mike about all of the blunders listed above, he kept deflecting and making excuses. Despite repeated emails and phone calls before the wedding, Mike was very ill-prepared and was "winging" it at the wedding with sheepish grins. While I appreciate Mike's apology for his mistakes in a follow-up email that he sent, he doesn't take away from the painful memories that I experienced due to his careless mistakes. He single-handedly ruined the reception. Not once did Mike make it about the bride and the groom, it was more of Mike's day and pleasing the crowd. If you want to make your day special, I recommend tuning him out and enjoying the beat of someone else.
