I placed a pick up order on Yelp and low a behold I arrived to see that there is a minimum of $5 up charge compared to if you dine in or call in. I was feeling as though I was getting sick, and I wanted some healthy food like sushi, a poke bowl, miso soup, or Ramen to get my immune system back in check. I happened to be staying about a half mile away from Japanese Express. It's exactly what I wanted: Japanese food and to-go. I walked in on a Friday night and it was completely dead. I was greeted by a young woman who tried helping me navigate through the menu. I asked if they had poke bowls, and she said she had no idea what that was. One of the Japanese woman from the restaurant came over and also didn't know what I was talking about. That was a first. So I figured, no poke for me. I knew I wanted miso soup & seaweed salad. I also chose the salmon hibachi and asked for extra ginger. They said it would take about 20 minutes. I had errands to run and went back in a half hour. My food was ready for me. There are plenty of parking spots in the lot. The prices are very fair. Everything I ordered was under $20. Which isn't bad especially considering I got a huge piece of salmon in my hibachi meal. I got back to my hotel room and opened up the food, and it was barely the right order. It was pretty much a completely different order aside from the salmon. I had asked for a seaweed salad, that never came. No extra ginger. So I basically got a piece of salmon and miso soup. It was OK, but it seemed to be cooked in an unhealthy way considering it all tasted fried in greasy oils. I would not recommend going here, try another Japanese restaurant close by. read more

Horrible. But you know as soon as you open the togo carton and everything is slathered in Teriyaki (when you didn't order Teriyaki) that it's gonna be bad. The rice tasted like it was cooked with an old tire and cheap grease, the yum yum sauce tasted like mayo and ketchup mixed together, ginger sauce was glorified watered down soy sauce (no ginger in it at all), chicken was fatty and rubbery and the "steak" (if you can call it that) was dry and tough. Entire meal was uneatable. I hate to leave reviews like this - but when you're craving good to go hibachi and are completely disappointed by the meal, you want to save others from making the same mistake. I didn't care for the chicken or the sauce on it, althougth the same sauce was on the veggies and it was fine. Fried rice was decent. Would go back to try other sushi rolls. They are completely to-go establishment now due to covid. I haven't tried anything that wasn't amazing so far here. I usually get the orange chicken hibachi and husband likes their sushi. The fried rice that comes with the hibachi is super good and the sushi is very fresh- recommend the Philadelphia roll especially. I usually order their dinner bento box which comes with steamed rice or fried rice, choice of meat, 2 California sushi rolls, 1 egg roll, 2 fried dumplings and it comes with miso soup and salad. For $10.95 it's really not that bad and you get a bit of everything and it fill you up. I love their salad dressing which is this refreshing sesame ginger sauce. Their miso soup is not too salty or bland, has the right amount of seaweed and chunks of tofu. I've tried their steak, yummi chicken (deep fried) and orange chicken (deep fried). They were all pretty good and orange chicken & yummi chicken taste a bit similar. Overall, it's pretty clean inside and service is quick. If you are in the mood for some asian food and you want something quick and easy but also freshly cooked I would recommend this place. read more

I visit this place whenever I'm in this area for an extended period of time, I can appreciate the express aspect because ordering sushi to go from regular sushi bars takes 15-20 minute or more if they're busy, they have a LOT of combo options whether you like sushi or hibachi, they have a rewards card where I believe you get a free meal or roll (I could be wrong) after so many visits, the staff is always friendly and this location stays open pretty late on weekends and offers weekend deals as well. read more

And while the combination option sounds like a good idea, you MUST order 2 or 3 different rolls! I'd wanted 2 of the same roll, there was no possibility of doing that! Also, forcing you to order a soup, which if you don't want it, you're forced to throw away is wasteful and annoying. I walked in environment was clean. The young lady who assisted me was very kind and pleasant. I ordered a snow crab roll and it was prepared and brought out very fast. For only $11.95 for the dinner, you get salad, fried rice, vegetables, steak, shrimp, and chicken. It's consistently good each time that I order it! If you're only in the mood for fried rice and meat(s), try the yakimesi options. I recently tried the squid salad, and it's a new favorite of mine. As far as sushi goes, the prices are great as well. I was actually skeptical about trying it at first because of the low prices, but I'm glad that I did. My favorite, no matter where I go, is always the Philadelphia rolls. Theirs are only $4.95 and awesome! The salmon is the smoked kind, which gives added flavor to the rolls. Absolutely delicious! A new favorite of mine is the dynamite roll. I tried it for the first time last night and immediately fell in love. This one is $10.95 for 8 pieces, but it's worth it! Another plus is that they are open every day and don't close until late.
