Today I spontaneously decided I wanted a pedi, so I googled JL Nails (I'd been here before), dialed the number on the website, and made a noon appointment. There's construction all over Saginaw presently which delayed my arrival by about fifteen minutes. After stumbling in late for my appointment, I learned that I had in fact called a JL Nails in Howell and did not have an appointment in Grand Ledge at all. The cool thing is, the salon owner fit me in and gave me a pedi herself - even painted some nail art for me - in spite of the fact that they had a bridal party coming in shortly. I've always been pleased with my pedis in the past, but today JL Nails really impressed me. read more

I've gotten great shellac manicures and spa pedicures from JL nails. Prices are great and they do a great job. Only problem is I have a hard time getting in, so definitely recommend appointments scheduled far in advance, (2-3 weeks out). Would give 5 stars if availability was better. I've started going to a different salon that has better walk-in availability. read more

I haven't had a bad experience before at this salon but I also haven't had a great experience before either. But unfortunately, I just had the worst experience there today. I'm a loyal customer that comes in every 2-3 weeks to get a new dip color on. I made this appointment weeks ago with a specific technician, I got there early but didn't get into a chair until 18 mins after my appointment time with the wrong technician. I decided to give this new one a shot, bad mistake. He kept the drill on my nail too long and I kept pulling away because it was burning, he never apologized, I asked to get my nails cut but he filed my nails down to what I would have want them cut at--which HURT! But what was the cherry on top of this awful experience was the fact the color of dip was NO WHERE near the stick color. Believe me when I say I hate purple and would NEVER choose purple on my nails, it was supposed to be a light to medium blue and my nails are purple. When I compared my nails to the color stick and showed the man who did my nails he said "oh the stick is just faded". Uh no, that's the wrong color and they didn't own up to it nor apologize. Here I am with my least favorite color on my nails and I'm stuck with them for a wedding I have in Mexico tomorrow. I will not be coming back, what an awful experience to have at a place I once loved so much. I do not recommend. read more

I needed a fill and since they were completely empty with the exception of four nail techs sitting around , I decided to check them out. One of nail tech's got up and rudely said they had no time to do it and I needed to make an appointment because they were going to be busy in an hour. Clearly these people have no interest in actually working and now I have no interest in spending my money there ever. EDIT: In response to owner's comment :The exact comment that day was 'We'll be busy in an hour" which was interesting anyways considering you asked me and the person I was with if we were having pedicures when we walked in.No matter at this point, I know I'm not the only one who has had a negative experience and I have no interest in ever returning. I was out and about and decided I should go get my eyebrows and lip waxed already. I had two places in mind but both expected me to wait two hours before getting this 5 min procedure done. I googled nail places since "waxing" was taking me to Babies R Us and what not (?!?!) and found JL Nails. They were closing in 30 mins which I later found out, I told her I'd be there in one minute. She (I guess her name is Lynn?) accommodated me right away. She was very friendly and quick! Not only that but she did an excellent job, she took great care and knew what she was doing, as a business woman and an esthetician. It barely even hurt! The place is spotless. I got a regular pedicure, and I was really impressed with how sanitary their practices are. They line the tub with a plastic liner, and put a new one on for each new customer. The staff wear gloves, and the tools are sterilized and sealed in packaging. Very clean salon overall. Next time I will get a luxury pedicure, given how fair the prices are. It is best to book an appointment, it seems that they are very busy with a steady flow of customers. read more

Cold and unfriendly. I stopped in to see if they were taking walk-ins for a mani/pedi and was completely ignored for an uncomfortable length of time. No one greeted or spoke to me until I finally asked (then they yelled across the salon & everyone turned around and looked at me) to which I was rudely told I would " have to have had an appointment there before to be able to do a walk in". This added insult to injury as I have had at least 2 appointments and been there 6 or 7 times in total over a year and a half. They had time much later but this did not work for me. The message I got was they do not want my business and I am not welcome there. I do not know what they are so haughty as their work is ok or average, nothing exceptional. read more

Do not take walk-ins and are VERY rude about telling you so. One tech is so loud and obnoxious you'll leave with a headache. Another tech does a good job on the fill but will only do the minimum! Don't ask for anything more! She'll complain and use it against you in the future! She's been doing my nails for a year. Definitely NOT going back! Pedicures are terrible too! Don't waste your money. The amount of gossip that runs around that place is terrible! I would dread having to go in for fills. Was never a fun experience. Only out of necessity. My reccomendations... This is the best salon I have ever visited. The staff is always super friendly and welcoming and I have never been even slightly dissatisfied with a service. Their pedicures are the absolute best and continue to look good long after the initial service. Their Nexgen service is also the best around. I have been to a couple of other salons for Nexgen nails and JL Nails attention to detail and quality of application just cannot be beaten! read more

The fact that I'm sitting and writing a review days a lot, and I'll say that I'm not pleased. If you're going to have a sign stating that being past 5 minutes late to an appointment could result in rescheduling, I shouldn't have to wait 15 minutes when I have an appointment. An appointment presents the idea that at the appointed time, there will be someone ready to perform the service. If you are unable to provide that, I recommend you be a walk in only nail salon. Despite the positive reviews I've read, I won't be giving this place another try anytime soon. Best of luck. read more

My mom and I have been going here about once a month for the last year. We both enjoy this place. The prices are reasonable for the service you get. I have only had pedicures at the salon and I get the regular pedicure for $25. The only thing different from the $30 pedicure is the legs being wrapped in warm towels. They are very friendly there too- though I will say it took a little bit. I think they grew more comfortable with us and saw how my mom and I joke with each other so know they can joke with us too - without crossing any lines. They are really busy so I would try to book an appointment and not do a walk-in. I noticed a person commented on how they shout across the salon. Yes they do, no one gets up and greets me but it is not in a rude way at all. read more
