I recently rented a pair of 1500w speakers from this GC at Pineville…read more I knocked 2 stars off due to my experience this time. I am a repeat customer (have rented speakers last year and bought a guitar from here). The store is well stocked and there are many musical instruments on the floor that customers can interact with the get a feel for them before deciding to purchase. The issue was with customer service. For most part it was good. I interacted with 4 different customer support people and all were perfectly fine except for one which is why I knocked 2 stars off. Here is what happened during this visit-- I rented the speakers for a function which was to take please in a huge indoor space which is the Indian Land Recreation center. The space is larger than this GC with ceiling hight nearly double that of GC. Both speakers looked a little dinged when I rented them. So I purchased insurance. We tested them in the store itself. Both were functional at normal talking volume. But once we setup the speakers in the huge indoor space and raised the volume to a reasonable level one of the two speakers performed very poorly and started producing thumping noise. So we reduced its gain to a lower decibel level. It was around just 60% of the other speaker. Still I could tell that the sound lacked crispness. So after the function when I returned the speakers to GC. I informed them that one specific speaker performed very poorly & that they should use the insurance I have purchased to replace it. So that they don't put it back into circulation again and some other people who rent it would have a bad experience. Then I requested for a partial refund of the rental value of one speaker. Instead of telling me what is the specific verbiage of the store policy the manager Mr. Dean was giving me a very purely subjective explanation of how in middle of my function I should have called the GC to tell them how the speaker was not performing well! So I asked if the store policy specifically says that if I called earlier like he said he would give a discount of any amount? To which he came up with more off tangent explanation about why insurance is important. So I explained to him that I did buy the insurance but the issue was with the rent I paid for a proper functioning speaker which I did not get (only one speaker functioned well). Again his implication was that we just used perfect speakers but now after the fact want to trick them into giving a refund. I challenged him to test the speakers then and there and raise the volume to the same level in both speakers and then he could tell how one of the speakers failed. He had no answer except that all speakers perform to less than their rated wattage and that's the natural order of things. I am no Audiophile but even I know that fact (since I was not born just yesterday). But there is an expectation of reasonable performance from any equipment that we rent. But that was not there in this case. So in the end they basically said that when you rent Speakers from them it can be a hit or miss and we have to be prepared for that risk. During our function many singers complained about the poor output and lacking the impact they expected. It was disappointing to the singers and the audience. So I have decided to purchase new set of speakers for the next year but definitely not from this GC because then I will be rewarding them for not standing behind their product quality and not showing a willingness to provide a fair customer support!

The speaker worked for approximately 4 minutes before emitting a loud tapping sound. Repeated attempts to fix, but no luck. We paused the event while locating/ setting up a new speaker. It was late and Guitar Center was already closed. I bring back the speaker on Monday, yesterday, explain what had happened, and ask about a refund. The associate seems annoyed and says the "acting store manager" will need to talk to me, who is standing behind him. Eventually the "acting store manager" half turns to me and says "my store manager will have to make that call" and says "You should have called when something went wrong." I explained that this happened after Guitar Center was closed. He repeats himself and tells me the "store manager will be in tomorrow" and that I'll have to call in then. Nobody says "sorry for the inconvenience" or anything like that. Guitar Center opens at 11, so I called today, 9/1, at 11:30 to speak with Store Manager Michael Rismiller. I was told he had left for the day. I then ask if there's anyone I can speak with about a refund on my rental equipment. I'm put on hold for 10 minutes, after which the phone redials the number and I speak to a Jason S. I am then put on hold again, and after another 5-7 minutes of waiting, Jason gets back on to say his "system is down" and he'll try to call me back in 30 minutes, "hopefully." As of this writing, still no call. Obvious runaround, tons of apathy, rude demeanors, the works. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! UPDATE 1: Jason S reached back out, denied the speaker was malfunctioning, and said "the best we can do would be like a 50% refund." Jason S said they played music through the speaker to test it. I explained that we were using a mic. Jason S cut me off and said "actually music is the more reliable test." Fortunately, I have video evidence of the speaker malfunctioning. Jason S requested that I send that to him at his email address, which I will be doing. I will also send to Michael Rismiller and the District Manager Dutch Wermuth. UPDATE 2: I emailed the store associate Jason S the video evidence that he required in order to process a refund on my faulty equipment rental. I've not heard back. I called the store to follow up but the phone rang repeatedly without anyone picking up. UPDATE 3: I called again and Jason agreed to the full refund. Updating to two stars. I also heard back from Dutch Wermuth today.

We did leave briefly to try out (1yr) another well known studio with a location in Weddington and were greatly disappointed. Their instructor constantly was looking at his watch and acted as if he didn't really wish to be there. We have never experienced this at M&A. David is amazing. Not only is he patient , David gives constructive criticism that makes the student actually love playing and encourages each student to reach new heights within their craft. Well worth the time and money for both of my children.

The staff is equally amazing. Philip recently set up my white Gretsch 12 string Falcon Rancher and WOW, it plays like a dream now. I didn't think the guitar was too bad off the shelf - but Philip was able to dial it in to where it plays like a dream now. So much better. I'm super thrilled. I chatted with Philip when picking my guitar up and learned he is a true luthier with the schooling and experience to back it up. He actually built guitars professionally for 10 years so he's not just a guy who changes strings. He's a guitar master craftsman who knows how to get the most out of a guitar.

I recently started bringing my son and enrolled him in their guitar lessons that they offer. They initially offered a free guitar plus free lesson, which obviously led to us paying for some guitar lessons. My son loves it and he likes his teacher named Ben. The staff is always very welcoming and wonderful. There are plenty of instruments located inside the store and even pianos you can play on. They offer a variety of music books as well as different accessories you may need for your instrument. The classes are located downstairs where there is a little waiting room if you'd like to wait downstairs and a TV where you can see the lesson going on. It's a nice quaint small shop and is located in a shopping center. They have a big open parking lot with plenty of parking options for you. Definitely recommend this place and will keep coming for lessons.
