finding a mechanic as a younger female is always something to be dreaded. Carlos, the owner, was recommended to me by a colleague; she had met him through a small business owners group and has used him for her family's cars for over 10 years. She comes from Shrewsbury to downtown Worcester for her auto service. Since then, I have taken my car to Carlos for every issue i've had. I have recommended him to several friends who also now use him for all of their car needs. His prices are lower than any others i've found and his work is very dependable. I feel like he actually cares about my safety and we always discuss preventative maintenance as well as what is causing the issue. Carlos has never made me feel like he is just trying to make a buck. He has actually recommended that I not fix something because it was unnecessary and not a safey issue...how many mechanics do that?? The shop is very bare bones and located on Chandler Street. I do a quick drop off and either walk home or have someone pick me up. There isn't a courtesy car or a fancy lounge to wait in, but that's what keeps the prices low. I had an accident on Chandler St and because this shop was close I brought my car there. that turned out to be a great decision. Carlos, in charge of repairs, was kind and helpful from the start all the way to the end and kept costs down even though it was a bad front end accident. Carlos put his hands on my boyfriend when questioned about price. I was still trying to wrap my head around what happened before updating review. I have written a few previous reviews for this business since my first auto repair. I have also sent dozens of people over who I don't even know to get their cars checked out and raved about Carlos. Work done on my car. Front axle job & Oil Change- $400 Break Line Job - $150 Radiator Flush/Oil Change - $100 Muffler Rot/Weld - $250 Some battery work and a few other jobs. I think there is one or two more jobs, can't remember without papers in front of me. The things I have always said is that he was fast, fair, honest, and cheaper than everyoen else in the city I had gotten quotes from. He would always give us an honest evaluation, be up front if he thought that there was more work needed, what was needed, and whether or not we should fix it partially/fully, without wasting money and time. The last repair I had was the muffler welding job sometime in November. My car was really loud, brought it over, asked what was needed to fix it. My boyfriend called me from shop as always, he said Carlos quoted $250, and I said go ahead do the work. He welded and replaced some of the muffler toward front end of car. Approx 3 weeks later I noticed the car sounded a little but louder than immediately after the repair but I thought I was just being paranoid. I waited another 2 weeks, it got a little louder. My boyfriend checked underneath, the muffler was not secured enough, so my boyfriend tried to put a hanger of some sort to support it. He then brought it back to Carlos and asked him to look at it because we just paid $250 and here it is loud as ever again. He put it up on the lift, and then told my boyfriend it would be $400 dollars work we needed. He asked him what we paid $250 for and he tried to explain. My boyfriend told him no no no, put my car down, Carlos chuckled and would not put the car down. He then told my boyfriend that we were always trying to nickel and dime him, I beleive he called us freeloaders, etc etc., and that we were trying to get something for free. OK? I've never tried to get anything for free, I ask a price, and have always paid it without complaint, and wrote another review no problem as you can see. I wrote 3? I think, 5 stars each in last 3 years. While they were exchanging words, Carlos told my boyfriend he did not need to listen to his shit and he grabbed him by his chest/shirt and pushed/shoved him out of the shop. My boyfriend called the police. He then put the car down, and also nearly ran over his own partner pulling my car out of the shop. The police arrived and heard both stories, my boyfriend said he would like to press charges, he is on camera assaulting him. Obviously this is never OK. I walked into the shop and asked Carlos to explain to me very calmly, what did I pay $250 for the month prior, and what is he asking for $400 now to fix ? He told me that he told my boyfriend last time that he could fix only part of it for $250 but it needed more. This was never said. He said for 250 we would NOT need to come back. Just like every other time he was honest with us, but not this time? I would half ass the job JUST this time? The second excuse was that we live in New England, and I must have driven over snow, ice, sand, etc. However, we had had maybe ONE snow storm of more than a thin layer of snow and I did not drive over anything out of ordinary. When the police saw that we were not going to agree, I was asked to leave, and I did, respectfully. I thought about it over the weekend, over and over, about why would he put his hands on a customer? Why would he blame us for the incomplete job previously done, and what he was going to do for $400, so I called back to check with him. He told me again about it was either that we only paid for half of a repair, or that its the weather, or my cars old, and than he said you would need "LIKE $500" , yes LIKE $500 bucks, remember it was $400 last week. Also, he said due to the TINY hole in my muffler, my son should not be in the car at all, so I drove around with windows down for the week freezing, thinking my son was going to die if I did not. I did not at all grasp what he stated he was going to do for $400 so I waited, upped to $500 and hunted up the money. By the time I had gathered $500, I had gotten a recommendation to a place here in the city, and I we took the car there. He looked at it, and within 5 minutes, he told us he'd fix it right now for $60 bucks. We got a third opinion from a 5 star rated place on here, $70 bucks. When we told them Carlos said $500 they laughed and said seriously? They also stated that the work he had done for $250, they would have done for $60 as well. So work Carlos did/quoted for $750, two other places would have done for $120, less than 20% what he was asking for. So, who else is being overcharged ? Next up, BBB report. I was new to Worcester and was looking for a mechanic for regular maintenance who I could trust and wouldn't rip me off like at a dealership or a chain store. Carlos at JMCK was great for that. He's very upfront about what repairs are needed vs not, charges reasonably with a 30 day workmanship guarantee, and is overall very friendly. Like most college students, I had no idea what is wrong with my car when it made strange noises when I took turns. This is an update to my original review. Everything I wrote still holds true. I've brought my car to Jmck 3 times total (replaced brake pads & rotors, 100k maintenance, and replaced serpentine belt & idler pulley). After my 2nd experience, Carlos suggested that I get my serpentine belt replaced around my next oil change, but that it was fine for the time being. His phrasing stuck out to me. That is, he suggested the repair in the future (didn't pressure me into anything) and he didn't even imply that I should bring my car back to him specifically (this showed me his concern was with the function of my vehicle and not necessarily his income). Of course, I did bring it back to Carlos when the work needed to be done. He takes his time in explaining what he did/what he finds, and he respects the customer to make their own informed decision. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. DO NOT trust this man with your car. My boyfriend brought his car there to get a new suspension installed. We had bought the parts prior to going to this shop and weren't 100% sure if they were the right ones for the car. The mechanic said he would check to see if they are the right parts and then told us that if they are, he would charge us $360 for the total job. After he verified that they were the correct parts for the car, he installed them and called us to pick it up. The second we got in the car, we realized there was something wrong. We drove the car 5 feet and it was making a really loud clunking sound and bouncing around. When we asked him to double check his work he refused and said it wasn't his job to make sure the car was functioning properly. It was only his job to install the parts that we brought him. When we tried to explain that we brought him the car, working perfectly fine and that now after he worked on it, we can't even safely drive it, he laughed in our faces and told us that is not his problem and that we have to deal with it. This man had no remorse that we trusted him with our car and basically stole our money and left us carless. I am absolutely dumbfounded that someone can take advantage of their paying customers like this. DO NOT EVER BRING YOUR CAR HERE. read more

I needed new brakes and rotors and was quoted about $ 250.00 which was a very reasonable price and was scheduled for 9:00 A.M. the following morning. Something came up and I called to reschedule that morning and the mechanic, Carlos had already cleared that time and had been waiting for me to arrive. Despite that he did the repair the next morning quickly and I haven't any problem with the brakes since. I would recommend this shop. read more

I wrote a review 12/31/2015 for great experience, but gave it no stars, so it is listed in something like "not recommended reviews" below the others. I'm working in Worcester again and needed some work done, and just like the other time, Carlos did a great job at a low price: replace power steering hose, front brakes, sway bars, oil change. Carlos also noticed and fixed/re-did a lousy recent job by another garage for a new distributor which was either causing an oil leak or blocking access to fixing an oil leak and had also slightly broken (enough) the new distributor and finagled their installation - that other garage... when I picked it up at night, it shook violently and I had to drop it off again immediately and have my ride pick me up again; when they fixed the problem, apparently they just finagled something to get it to work correctly, and told me that it was my vehicle's fault for being old. Carlos also pointed out some other work that I need done [and I know it], but didn't try to sell me on having him do it - for one of the things, he quoted me a significantly lower price than another garage did a while back [that I also trust and does great work at a great price].
