The online search began with knowing that I wanted to find someone on the east side and knowing that I wanted a guy. Found him in Dr. John Reynolds, ND. The staff is courteous and respectful. Katie, the office manager, is sweet and always helpful & CJ, the resident MA, gives the best jab this side of the pond. I want to start by saying that I have had positive experiences with The Takacs Clinic overall, and…read moreI do believe Dr. Joan Takacs is knowledgeable and capable. That's part of why this is difficult to write. I'm sharing this because of a pattern I've experienced over multiple visits, culminating in my most recent appointment. Over time, there have been repeated issues with communication, documentation, and coordination related to my workers' compensation case. This is not based on a single interaction. For example, during a prior visit, I was not provided a work release note, which created confusion when I later tried to follow up. When I called to clarify, I was told there was nothing further available, without additional explanation or effort to resolve the gap. Earlier in my claim, there were also instances where documentation had to be corrected retroactively so that my work status accurately reflected my condition and I could receive appropriate compensation. I understand these cases involve multiple moving parts, but situations like that reinforce how important consistency and accuracy are from the start. During my most recent visit, I was asked whether I felt "medically stationary." I explained that I am not a medical professional and not qualified to make that determination. That should come from the provider after a complete evaluation, including coordination with all treating professionals. In my case, both my physical therapist and aquatic therapist had not yet been consulted. The medically stationary status was marked as "not sure," which I appreciate, because it reflects that a full evaluation had not yet taken place. However, the conversation leading up to that point felt rushed and, at times, framed in a way that placed pressure on me to answer something I should not be responsible for determining. Another concern was how the conversation was framed around "moving forward" and "closing the claim." These are things I have expressed over the past two years. I do want to move forward. However, hearing those same phrases reflected back in this context felt misaligned, especially when key steps like coordinating with my therapists had not yet been completed. It gave the impression that my own words were being used to support a timeline that had not been fully evaluated. Wanting to move forward does not mean skipping necessary steps, it means making sure everything has been properly reviewed so that the next step is accurate. I was also told that "this isn't a game" and that "this is my life." I agree with that completely, as I've been saying that throughout this process. But in that moment, it felt less like support and more like pressure, especially when I was being asked to weigh in on something I'm not qualified to determine. Statements like that carry weight, and in a workers' compensation setting, they can come across as pressure if not paired with thorough evaluation and coordination of care. A patient should not feel responsible for advancing the process without full clinical guidance. After two years of navigating this process, I have been consistent in what I've communicated. The issue is not a lack of clarity on my end, it's that those concerns have not always been fully reflected in follow-through. What stands out most is the pattern: moments where communication breaks down, documentation is inconsistent, or decisions move forward without full coordination between providers. In a workers' compensation case, those details directly affect treatment, recovery timelines, and stability. For context, my injury involves the hip, and my background is in aquatics. I am a swimmer, water polo player, and artistic swimmer, and have worked in aquatic environments for many years. The hip is central to nearly every movement, and recovery requires careful, progressive rehabilitation. I have only recently returned to the water, which is a key part of my recovery. Given that, discussing whether I am medically stationary at this stage, without full coordination across my care team felt premature and not fully aligned with the recovery process. I do want to acknowledge that the physical therapy team, especially Andy, has been excellent. That side of care has been thoughtful, consistent, and a very positive part of my experience. Despite the concerns above, I still look forward to continuing care here. I have been in a vulnerable position throughout this process, and I recognize the ways Dr. Joan Takacs and the team have supported me. Edit: Since writing this review, I received a letter dated March 26, 2026 stating that Dr. Takacs is withdrawing from my care and canceling my upcoming appointment. I have been advised to transition to another provider. Same week Judas betrayed Jesus by the way.

I think she's booked out because she's experienced and that puts I'm her in demand. The staff do seem stressed over Covid which is understandable. They have you wait in the entry and do a temp check before you can come in so if you barge in, it brakes protocol and you just ignored the big sign in the front so that's understandable if they are frustrated by those who don't pay any attention to their surroundings..

Dr. Schmidt is one of the most gifted, brilliant, intuitive, and compassionate healers I ever have had the great good fortune to work with. I was referred to Dr. Schmidt a few months ago by my physical therapist because of an extremely painful and debilitating recurring "shoulder and neck freeze." This would last for a week and was so painful, preventing me from being able to hardly move at all, much less work. I had neck surgery last July, and my PT felt this all was somehow connected, and that I needed swift and immediate intervention to prevent lifelong debilitating pain patterns via my new network of nerves that were being patterned as they formed post-surgery. This could be a whole book, but I'll just add this. Not only did Dr. Schmidt put a halt to the neck/shoulder freezes, she also completely reversed (yes completely) moderate to severe carpal tunnel syndrome in one arm, and reduced it in the other arm from constant pain and numbness that seriously interfered with my sleep and functioning to a mild annoyance. No more arm braces at night! She has also improved my overall energy, mobility and flexibility throughout my entire body, and it feels as though the healing in my neck has really moved forward. I have regained my positive attitude about my future, and know that I still can do some of those things I thought I'd missed, like hang-gliding, horseback riding, and learning to play my bass. I highly recommend Dr. Schmidt and her methods, even though you might find them unfamiliar. We are so lucky to have her in our midst.

I needed to see a doctor quite desperately but had put it off for well over a month because I didn't know where to go, if I could afford it, and all the other unknowns when you don't have a primary care and health plan backing you up. I found the Alameda Clinic through googling and gave it a chance because of all the wonderful reviews. I showed up at around 9:20 am (walk in hours start at 9am). Dr Dan greeted me personally, I was immediately ushered back to his exam room, we discussed my issue (I have permanent 100% hearing loss in one ear and recently my "good ear" was only operating at about 20%), he did an exam to confirm the problem, and then he fixed it. During this time he mentioned a couple times that there was paperwork but I had yet to do more than tell him my name. Afterwards, almost as an afterthought, he asked if I minded filling out his form. His whole approach is so refreshing, personal and just plain human...of course I didn't mind. The form he handed me was one sided, covered the very basics and took about a minute to fill out. When I met him out in the lobby again, we talked about lychee (a Chinese fruit) and he gave me a taste of something similar. I asked him if he needed the paperwork (I'd left it in the exam room), he waved it off, I asked him how much I owed him, he asked if I could afford $80, I gladly said yes, paid him, asked him if I could give him a hug and was out the door. The whole thing from start to finish, took about 30 minutes, but to say that it was life changing for me is not an exaggeration. Dr Dan is unlike any other doctor i have ever gone to. He is a healer who is genuinely interested in and enjoys engaging with his patients. And I love that he incorporates the things that he is passionate about into your encounter with him. I have since recommended him to everyone I know and will definitely be back the next time the need arises.

I can't get into my doctor and am pushed off from one doctor to the next that doesn't want to deal with me. I can't get half my meds, basic referrals and tests. Simple follow up care after an ER trip where I may or may not have had a stroke has become a living nightmare. The entire OHSU system seems to exist to prevent accurate diagnosis and medical care. I've never had as negligent and abusive care anywhere and I used to go to Kaiser. Nowhere else takes months to make simple referrals and order MRIs. I have seen multiple OHSU doctors that need empathy and ethics training, at a public corporation where willful malpractice is tolerated to compensate for their critical lack of doctors and a CCO that routinely denies routine medical care. Doctors will lie to, gaslight and fight with very sick patients to get out of paperwork. Then they will lie in your record to hide the patient abandonment they know they just committed. Omitting dangerous vitals, abnormal tests and concerning symptoms is just business as usual at OHSU. This sicker you are, the more of a punching bag you become. I have seen 3 different doctors in this clinic trying to get follow up care and still have had not had my brain evaluated for a possible stroke I had a month ago. Recovering from a possible stroke has been like going to WWW wrestling matches where I repeatedly get beat down for having a major health issue. At a certain point this negligence starts to look like a system that does not want their sickest, most neglected patients to have any evidence of OHSUs negligence. I cannot imagine how many patients have died waiting for needed tests and referrals while these doctors lie to and abuse the sickest patients as if their medical conditions are a personal attack on their egos. I saw some attack dog NP yesterday who went through all 5 stages of gaslighting to get out of paperwork. She wasted my time acting like she wanted to know what was going on and proceeded to lie to and abuse me for 15 minutes straight. I told her the whole traumatic story and how I have a swollen artery and at risk for a stroke and that I need the MRI and a more urgent neurology referral that the ER recommended - very normal healthcare requests I have never had to fight like this for anywhere else. Her first response was that Medicaid wouldn't pay for it (discrimination). I said if the referral is urgent, Medicaid is supposed to. She then tried to tell me nothing indicated these referral/order and started invalidating all my symptoms and abnormal vitals and tests line by line. She twisted facts and rewrote reality while I was sitting there with a severe one sided headache. She denied I had unstable BP, lied about what the orders/report said and even read it off to me as if it proved her point. She literally read the words of the CT scan report "follow up with an MRI" out loud to me. She then said it didn't say MRI, it said I needed another MRA, like I'm an idiot who doesn't understand English, to try to make me question reality, which is the definition of gaslighting. She then became offended that I was getting emotionally distraught and shocked by her reckless disregard for my life. She said I had a bad vibe and "I'm just meeting you," as if it wasn't her job to meet patients for the first time in a literal urgent care clinic. She used this line twice, causing me to apologize and repeat that I was just afraid I could have a stroke due to swollen arteries that were seen on that MRA. She said "I'm a medical professional. I know what a stroke is," because my mere existence was an affront on this woman's fragile ego and her "not a real doctor" complex. This is the 3rd OHSU practitioner to abuse me in one month since I was in the ER a month ago. No one has denied I have a swollen artery in my head where I'm having pain. There is no follow care for me at Richmond clinic. So I will pay for my own MRI and will probably have to drop Medicaid to do so. Why not? Im already my own doctor. OHSU is performative medicine that looks very clinical on paper but doesn't exist in reality. At a point patients money-saving deaths appear to be the goal. How many former patients became disabled & homeless from preventable conditions and died living outside? I can imagine that the poor radiologists who dare to say the truth on a report get beat down in some sketchy OHSU backroom. Richmond clinic is a fake store front for money laundering scheme where patient care is "rationed" out until they die. What will they do when rationing medical care becomes illegal next year? The same.
