I wish I could comment about Dr. Mesnier, but I have yet to see her. I can say that Christina her staff person is unhelpful. Dr. Mesnier is supposed to be a good ankle surgeon and I have been trying to get an appointment since March 2025. Despite a physician referrral, good insurance, an increasingly unstable painful ankle I can barely walk on, an MRI with ligament and tendon tears, and filling out all the online paperwork, I have yet to see her. It's August. Her office cancelled my first two new patient appointments with short notice. Christina hasn't requested my records or MRI scan, even though I filled out and signed a request with my new patient paperwork. Yesterday I asked if she'd received my imaging and she said "No, I haven't requested it because it takes a really long time for them to send it, so it's the patient's responsibility." I told her I have to cancel and reschedule a half day of my own cancer patients for these appointments they keep cancelling, and asked if she could make my appt on a day when that won't happen. Her reply: "It's not my fault if patients need surgery". Nice. It doesn't seem like they want my business, so I guess it's not my fault if I go somewhere else. Dr. Mesnier probably doesn't know this is happening, and unfortunately this review is the only way to communicate with her. I will happily update it and the rating if I end up seeing her and having a good experience! read more

First visit; excellent front office staff and Dr. Fischer was attentive, informative and clear. I felt heard and respected. He answered all my questions and was kind and professional. He also gave me several recommendations for other doctors to call, in the event that my condition worsened before he is able to schedule me for surgery. I hope I can wait: he gave me confidence that he would do an outstanding job with the surgery I need. Update: had hip replaced by Dr.Fischer yesterday. Overnight in the hospital (that's where I needed to be, even though I pushed for same day discharge, he was totally right that I needed to stay one night). Back home now and so grateful. It's done and, barring complications (which I hope I won't have), so looking forward to being able to live without debilitating hip pain. Every medical professional I saw during pre-op visits (who do not work for him directly) said he was the best. They mentioned patients they saw who refused to have anyone else replace their hips or knees. I trust I'll be saying the same. Right now focusing on healing. I had a double hip replacement performed last October by Dr. Gustav Fischer. The entire experience was amazing... very skilled and caring medical staff and support staff, lots of follow-up, appointments were available in weeks not months, and when my daughter and I arrived for them we were seen promptly. I am now out of the wheelchair, the walker is in a corner, and I hope to shortly graduate from my cane. I can walk my dog, drive, and do my own grocery shopping. I can't say enough wonderful things about Multnomah Orthopedic, they have made a huge difference and given me my life back. read more

I have a lot to say about my experience with this clinic. I could write a small pamphlet regarding my annoyance, and how my care was definitely not the top concern of my surgeon. Basically, my hip replacement revision surgery failed. Instead of the surgeon taking my complaints seriously, the office staff was more concerned about my outstanding bill than what was wrong with me. I waited in that office for over an hour, while receptionist and other staff whispered about what to with me. I never even spoke with surgeon, just his assistant that shrugged me off and said I probably just need more physical therapy. Before I left the patient examination room, they sent in two people from billing to push me for more information about why my bill hadn't been completely paid for yet. The problem actually was that they submitted my bill incorrectly to my insurance, since I carried two types at the time. I asked about what they were going to do about my pain issues and general concern about there being something wrong with the replacement, and they told me that they would have to schedule some tests. When I got home, I called them asking when I will go for testing, and they said that they wouldn't schedule anything until my bill was paid in full. I had to go to another surgeon in Portland to get checked. Eventually, they found that the part that was put into my hip as the revision had failed and that they would have to do it again. It was clear as day on the X-ray. As an extra bonus, my new surgeon clearly was afraid to make any statements about the care I received at the original surgeon's office because, " He's a great surgeon ". I really don't care how great his comrades think he is. This is my life, and it was greatly affected by this negligence. Financially, physically, and mentally it took a toll on me. I am sure this guy didn't lose any sleep at night knowing that he didn't help me the way he should have. Also, I want to point out that just because this office says it is part of Providence, they are a private office so they do not have to follow Providence's ethics/ practices. You can bet that I was on the phone with a number of people at the Providence hospital to find out how something like this was allowed to happen. That's the reason why. No lawyers will take this case because it's not a slam dunk. I don't have medical professionals to make statements about the situation because they told me that there's no way to know if the part that was replaced was already defective, or that it actually was the surgeon's fault. Isn't that convenient?! I guess my only saving grace is that I believe in Karma. read more

Dr. Fischer replaced my hip in 2015. Came out of surgery with severe Cataracts and Fibromyalgia. When I told Dr. about Fibro he laughed. Have lived with thigh pain in that leg and recently that hip was painful every day after only 7 years. He put me on an anti inflammatory which made me extremely sick. Found out a person with Fibro should NOT take NSAIDs. Ruined my Christmas. When I asked if he checked prescribing that for a person with Fibro, I was told that was pharmacist's job. Sorry to say, I will use another surgeon if needed in the future. read more

Have a very thorough knowledge of the medical industry and can not say enough positive things about Doctor Fischer and his practice. I had severe deterioration of my hip requiring replacement. Because of his technique I was walking two hours following surgery, did not need a walker or cane after a week, and only used Tylenol for pain. His staff is helpful, professional, and pleasant. His physician assistant Isaac is outstanding. Less than three weeks after surgery I am further along than I expected to be in two or three months. Have only a three inch incision as his technique is very non-invasive and results in a much quicker recovery. Kind, compassionate, gentle, patient, and very intelligent. His calm presence was reassuring in an anxiety provoking situation. I felt safe and comfortable being in his care. The office staff is friendly and competent. John is the phone scheduler who is friendly and effective. Mike is an ideal nurse for Dr. Mesnier, orthopedic surgeon par excellence. Dr Mesnier - and now we get down to it - did an impossibly difficult surgery on my complex foot and ankle tendon tear. Impossible, and yet she did it, and masterfully. She always knew everything about my case, even on a busy clinic day. She is friendly, informative and - did I mention? - supremely competent. Dr. Fischer uses a break through hip replacement surgery that requires a small incision in the buttocks so the recovery is so much faster. My husband had the typical hip replacement years ago and his recovery took 6 weeks. This surgery took 2 weeks recovery and had no residual pain as he did from his regular hip surgery with another doctor who gets high reviews but used the standard surgery and replacement part. Happy to share our good fortune with others. read more

Dr. Gustav Fischer recently performed a total hip replacement for me on November 30, 2018. I was thrilled with the care I received and Dr Fischer's skill and ability to clearly communicate. This is the surgeon to use for hip replacement in Portland. We found Dr. Fischer after my wife's physical therapist commented that they noticed his patients recovering more quickly and with less pain. I made an initial appointment and was able to get in quickly. Dr. Fisher took a lot of time to explain treatment options in detail with the plusses and minuses of each choice. We decided on a total hip replacement. Dr. Fischer does minimally invasive procedure which he carefully explained to us. The surgery was scheduled at a time convenient with my work schedule. The surgery was performed at the ambulatory surgery center at Providence Portland. The staff there was wonderful, supportive and communicative for myself and my wife. Couldn't be happier with the facility and I did not spend the night. My anesthesiologist, Dr Kane, was also excellent, he explained options and we decided not to use general anesthesia, instead to use local with medication to make my brain foggy and comfortable. That turned out to be a great decision and speeded my recovery that day. I was up and walking a couple hours after surgery and my pain was manageable. Dr. Fischer had a carefully laid out pain medication program which I followed carefully. The pain management was well planned enough that I didn't take any of the optional oxycodone meds that were prescribed "if needed". Not using opioids was a goal of mine. While not without pain, it was well managed. I started physical therapy three days after surgery, and my therapist also commented that they notice Dr. Fischer's patients recovering quicker and with less complications. All in all I am extremely satisfied with the skilled compassionate care I received. To repeat, this is absolutely the surgeon to use in Portland for hip replacement. read more

I've had good experiences with Dr. Shipley in the past which was why I went back to her office concerning the problems in my knees. This visit however was a huge disappointment. For starters I had to wait an hour and a half past my appointment time to see the doctor. If I did that as a professional I'd get fired. When I finally got to see the doctor she reviewed my x-Rays, did a basic exam and told me "you might have some tendonitis". I wasn't expecting miracles but I was hoping for more than that since I have been in such severe pain for so long. She said she was going to refer me to another specialist but I was left without any instructions as her office staff couldn't seem to get it together. Any other orthopedist I would have given just two stars. read more

The whole staff here is ABSOLUTELY incredible. They pretty much saved my life and were so kind and straight forward. I was in a bad motorcycle accident and they took amazing care of me and made it so I can walk again. They changed my whole opinion on Doctors and surgeons. In fact on the whole medical profession. They were absolutely amazing and so talented. I was so fortunate to have all of them care for me. I would absolutely recommend them. Anytime I needed anything they were always there for me even if it was a quick phone call. They are the absolute best! Dr. Mesneir is amazing and very professional and straight forward. My experience with them was not good at all. I had surgery scheduled and already had taken time off work, dog scheduled for kennel, daughter taking time off work before I received a call the day before my surgery saying they wouldn't be able to do it because of my EKG results. I took the EKG test 3 weeks prior, but they never reviewed it. I received this on Friday afternoon and my surgery was scheduled for Monday morning. I scrambled and got in to see a cardiologist and got everything approved for surgery, as the EKG results were false. They still couldn't get it together. They didn't want to admit that somebody "dropped the ball". I tried to get the surgery scheduled before the end of the year because my out-of-pocket expenses and deductible was paid for the year and my surgery would have been covered 100%. They were very unorganized and screwed it up! I finally received a call from them to do it after January 1st, in which I would have a large medical bill. I am dealing with the office staff at this point, and never heard back from Dr. Shipley. Needless to say, I didn't have the surgery and was very angry the way this clinic handled everything. read more
