I don't know if it's because the holidays are barely in the rear view mirror or what, but Joann's was an absolute mess and shelves were bare! I stopped by for thread; however, I walked the entire store because I'm always looking for inspiration. I felt like I was constantly stepping over things and shelves were bare throughout the store. Fabric cutting and cashiers are generally polite, and I was able to find what I needed and actually picked up some fabric on sale as well. While I don't go in very often, I'll wait a while longer to see if things get cleaned up and return to the once upon a time, neat and tidy that it use to be. read more

Selection is great for quilting cotton. Apparel fabric could be better. Good sales, fine service. There is a rude lady who rents a space inside for sewing machines and told me my machine was a bad one... Check your receipts. I have been over-charged for fabric three times now as of today. Twice at the cut counter, now I picked up 7 yards from online order when I ordered and paid for 10 yards. read more

So when they closed the Joann Fabrics at Northway and Dimond, we were promised this new location would be a mega store, one of only like 10 of it's kind in the country. Well now that I've seen it, color me unimpressed. I preferred the previous Northway location to the new store. I mean it's a very nice store and you will find everything you need. It's well organized. But it's not bigger than the Northway location. And although I personally find the midtown location more convenient, I'm sure that people on the south and east sides of town find the single midtown location extremely inconvenient. Alaskans are big time crafters, even more so since Covid, so I'm really not clear on why the hell the closed 2 stores just to condense down to one location. Now if one location is out of a fabric, you don't have the option of going to the 2nd location if the other location is out, which i really think sucks. The store was very clean, and well organized. Like all Joann's everything is vastly overpriced, so you have to look for sales and coupons. But let's be real for fabric, sewing supplies AND crafting goods, Joann's is the only option. They have a nice silks section and at Christmas, their picks were really impressive. I was also impressed by how well they addressed Covid concerns. I'm looking forward to going back after the holidays to check out the sales. read more

Nice clean store, and about as large as Michael's now. I have been in need of new zippers for a couple of different coats, and while there is a large selection the alteration business that I frequent rejected one of the zippers I bought as too cheap and weak for the coat. Thankfully I kept the receipt. There is a decent return policy for store credit without the receipt too though. What I like about this store is there is almost any craft available here. Want to make donuts, or decorate a cake? There are utensils for that. Want to scrapbook and simultaneously knit an aran sweater? There are multiple materials available. Found service to hover between adequate and nice. Will come again. read more

I want to love Joann Fabrics, I really do. When they closed the location closest to me in favor of opening a midtown "megastore", I was hopeful. So far this location has been a let-down to me personally- they are often picked clean and what they do have in stock is very overpriced, which was one reason I didn't frequent the two locations prior. "They always have coupons!" Someone will inevitably argue, and while that is true, even 40-50% off is often too little of a discount to make most items worth the price. This store is nice and spacious, and very clean and modern, but that is the biggest compliment I can really give. Something else to note is that this store is pretty behind seasonally, and still has stuff out from Halloween in January, and no spring in sight. The online pickup service is also beyond useless. 8 hours of waiting for them to tell me they were actually out of every single thing I ordered. read more

I came here for my pick-up order two times. the first experience, i waited more than 30 mins. the second time, i then called the front desk so i can get my order, since my app wasn't working. the staff member had an unwelcoming attitude when i told her what i was here for. i will no longer be doing curbside pickup here, or any service here. it sucks because this is one of the only fabric store in town. read more

Love the size of the latest location (across from midtown New Sagaya).. The employees are extremely helpful and since Michaels has seemed to reduced the types of individual scrap/art papers, that's a not a problem here! They have a little of everything. To Asya who wrote in about finding Alaskan yards, you may want to try a specialty store for Alaska made products. Joann's is more of a national chain. Love this store! read more

There are many problems in this store. Firstly, you will not buy what you need, because the lazy employees have not yet put it on the shelves (and the app and the Zebra device show that the product is there.) You will be lucky if you make the employee sort through the boxes, he will find it. There was also a case when the manager told me that I should look for the thread I need in the boxes myself. Can you imagine? You should take it not from the sales shelf, but look in the boxes! Then there are huge queues and slow-working cashiers. Also, there is an employee there who put on troll ears on the evening of December 17, this harmful woman told us not to come to the store and took the goods from me that I paid for. She is a racist, she heard that I was speaking Russian, but I am actually Ukrainian. But it does not matter, right? This incident is not the first time with her. She despises other races. read more

I went in to Joann's looking for brass hoops to make a hanging cat bed. They didn't have the size that I needed but Peter showed me all the different options in the store that might work. I didn't find what I was looking for that night. The next day I talked to my craft buddy who is making the same project (Sqweeeee!). She subbed a metal wreath and got it from Joanns. So back I went and lo and behold Peter was there and he showed me where the wreaths were at. Very friendly. I went to pay and the nice gentleman asked if I had a coupon ( I didn't) so he told me to go to try her website and download the 40% coupon. He kindly waited for me to find it (I'm slow). He showed zero sign of impatience or irritation at me, what a saint!! read more

This place has horrible staffing. There's almost always a 10 minute wait for checkout, they have like 5 registers and I've never seen more than one cashier working even when there's 10+ people in line. They also have a disappointing yarn and fabric section. They're not that big, and the selection is a bit limited, specially the yarn. They don't have many odd/interesting yarns, just the basics. The Joann's in Fairbanks has a bigger selection lol. read more

So this place is OK unless you need to have some fabric cut and then it sucks. This is the second review I've posted on line about their horrible customer service at the cutting desk. It's been a couple days now, so it's not the heat of the moment and I'm STILL pissed. The underlying problem is that they apparently have a policy not to add staff to the cutting tables no matter what. THIS time there were 2 cutters and one appeared to be in training (slow). The two people being helped had LITERALLY 30 and 20ish bolts of fabric. The manager is coming and going, completely oblivious to the 5 or 6 people having to wait 20 minutes or more. Here's where it gets worse. Another lady stops the manager and politely says "We were wondering if another person could help at the cutting table". The manager says nothing. I mean she's just standing there staring down the lady until it got very uncomfortable. When the manager finally speaks they said "Everyone here is busy doing their job" in a very snotty tone. When I tried to further explain how long we'd been waiting they were equally snotty to me. Seriously? There was a problem and we had a reasonable request, and asked nicely. I understand that the answer could be "no", but the manager's job is to say so in a polite and customer friendly way, not be a weird, snotty little **. Also, this is an ongoing issue. I DREAD going to Joann if I have to get fabric cut. read more
