At the cutting table there was only one worker. After two separate customers walked out there were still ten people waiting there. I phoned the store and spoke to the manager who told me the other workers were stocking shelves and unloading a truck out back. The store had some employees who were simply walking around and I believe they were never trained to measure and cut cloth. I doubt I'll return to this store. read more

Despite their store not having enough hours for their workers, especially after the store closures and bankruptcy, Joann employees have always been sweet and tried their best. Long lines aren't their fault, if you worked anywhere retail, you'd know that. I applaud the employees who have had to deal with customers who constantly complain about things they can't control like customers think they do. Many people wouldn't be able to handle a job where you're constantly bombarded by a range of rude old women, rude middle aged women, and rude and entitled young women. Shop online first - they have cheaper prices online and they will "price match" their own online prices but you have to be able to show them their own online prices to get each item reduced. Use the coupon section of the website because they don't offer them at the cash registers but are available online. Ordered fabric 3-4 different times from different Joann's in the Austin area and all but one order was cancelled due to not actually having that fabric in store (once ordered it for shipping, order still got cancelled). The people at this location have straight up told me they don't know much about (whatever the topic was - fabrics, sewing, needles, zippers, paints, etc.). I appreciate the honesty by the staff, but maybe management could train them or have someone who has certain areas of expertise available/have a resource guide for reference. read more

All "style and no substance". What a horrible experience. Been twice and it's awful. Its understaffed* which I was told by an employee is by design by corporate. It's also woefully under stocked. At least 30% of the aisles are empty, and not because it's seasonal clearance. The layout of the store makes it difficult to find anything. *There is no one to ask for help. The yarn department is really big and open. However it has maybe 10-15 different types of yarn and very limited colors. The old store had a better selection even if it was a smaller area of the store. Spent 20 minutes trying to find zippers and tapes. No luck. Prices are hard to find. It's small tags on large bins and if something gets put back in the wrong space, forget about it. Why no scanners? And like the previous location, check out is enough to make you want to abandon your cart. I went today to pickup an online order that i received notification was ready. When I got to the store there were signs on the door Cash only, payment system down. Sigh. Ok, I'm just picking up an already paid order. One person working register/pick up. Give them my name and confirm had been told it's ready. Turns out there's a stack of orders to be fulfilled and mine is one of them. I'm then informed they're the only person working the store today and it will be a while. In the meantime a line has formed behind me and I'm the bad guy. After spending way too much time trying to get their lame website to work correctly and waiting a day to pickup, I'm over it. So I tell them never mind and cancel the order. Once again I'm treated like the bad guy. I don't understand the management and direction of this store. It will be a long, long time before I go back, if I ever do. I'm searching for local shops that I can support and who maybe give a **** about my patronage. If you want to be frustrated and waste a bunch of time, this particular location is your destination. read more

Today me and my grandmother went into the Joanne fabrics at South park Meadows and someone told us on the phone that our sewing machine could maybe be fixed there so we go inside with the sewing machine and in the back area at the fabric station there was a older lady with short gray/white grey hair wearing an apron told me SO UGLY LOUD AND RUDELY "WHY WAS I STANDING IN LINE WITH A MACHINE, AND WHAT WE WANTED, I mean we had just walked in the store and service was horrible she spoke to us very badly offered no kind of information nor help and if she's representing Joanne fabrics that store will go under and have no costumers and I hope corporate see this, people should not be treated that way. read more

Disclaimer. I normally hate going to fabric stores. Period. However, this time was a bit different. This is a large store, but still not a place for a guy to park himself while being bored to death. The other day, for a change, I was looking forward to an outing with the Lady since she was going to let me pick (and that also means buy) some items to make for my birthday. As we wandered in, the first thing I noticed was how much brighter this store was inside. I started walking down the fleece section and I was quite surprised to find the sports team that I liked. Wohoo! We gathered up all the items and heading for the dreaded wait at the cutting area. Even while we were getting fleece cut, another customer came to the table and our cutter made a call for another cutter. They could use another person here. Taking a number was a bit confusing as the dispenser was broken and you kinda had to take it apart to get a number. Out and heading towards checkout where I expected to die of old age while waiting. Low and behold, 2 lines open and one was empty. Happily we went on our way. A couple of dings, there is no place for a guy to hang out and wait, so we just look at each other and share our pity. Second is that the prices are a bit higher than other places, but there are always coupon on the internet. Organization was a bit weird but the nice thing was that each employee with which we interacted was quite cheerful. They could use a little more staffing. In general A-OK. read more

This is my go-to Jo-Ann's when I'm in town. I think it was at a different location last time I was here or maybe the time before that. But I will always find them! Today I had an especially good experience. Not only did a clerk cheerfully stop what she was doing to help look up a specific yarn I was looking for. I had found the empty bin for it but didn't know if they might have any more somewhere. She established that they were really out of it so at least I knew. Then the clerk at the front was very helpful. I thought both the items I bought were on sale and that I wouldn't be able to use my 60% off coupon on anything. The clerk informed me that one of the items which was $20, was actually not on sale so I got $12 off! I told her she had a happy customer and that I really appreciated her diligence. read more

I attended their Open House in June where they were having a special for 50% off classes! I purchased the Learn To Sew: Skill level 1 class. I registered that day for a July class, yet the brief overview from the cashier about the beginner course sounded pretty dry and not so interesting. Yet, I was still optimistic about what would be in store! Last time I touched a sewing machine was when I was about 9 or 10 years old, with my grandmother who enjoyed sewing. So as an adult, I was not very up to date about the sewing world. Yet I and the 5 other students were thrilled to come in with a great attitude that matched our wonderful instructor Mrs. Velia Molis! She was patient with each one of us and our individual learning challenges. She corrected us on our errors and provided quick efficient solutions. That kept us moving along smoothly as a class. And reminded us to breathe and have fun with learning how to sew! In the end, she was kind to let us have our own pair of fabric scissors, pins, and fabric pieces! That was the cherry on top! I definitely had a confidence boost when class ended, because I left knowing more than I came in with. I am excited to purchase my next sewing machine and catch another Open House event for their next deal on classes! Mrs. Velia is an awesome instructor who made it so much fun from what I expected! After explaining to the customer service rep that I do not sew and was sent by my wife to run this errand she was very helpful and got me and the tiny person with me taken care of very quickly. I love this store so much! It has recently become my go to store when I need something crafty, seasonal decoration or diy. The store has tons and tons of fabric, yarn and ribbon for your every need. I love to find stuff in the crafty paper for scrap booking and collaging. If you need certain stuff for you sewing machine - they have it. If you need all different kids of hold punchers that punch cool different shapes and designs then they have that too. Seriously - awesome! I recently went in here to buy a small 4 foot Christmas tree they had on sale for $24.99. It was prelite and exactly what I was looking for. I got a 14 inch nutcracker they had on sale for 60% off too. Another visit I picked up some cool crafty activities to keep my nephew busy while he was visiting. The final straw was 1 of the cutters "clocking out" and continuing to talk to her friends in the line as if she didn't see the gigantic line. What a mess! I have a business where I hand make blankets, and have bought the majority of my fabric from this Joann's. I spend over $10000 a year here. I know they have recently had a management change, and the employees say their hours have been cut, but what I saw was out of control. I saw three employees just standing around talking to each other. I spent over an hour looking for one particular fabric. Eventually two employees helped me look for it with no luck. I finally found it after sliding my hand between every bolt of fabric in the section. I am so disappointed. read more

I went in there a couple days ago buying things to do projects for the quarantine(keeping the kids busy with art) and one of the women that cut the fabric was rude, impolite, and made faces behind my back! I thought that was the end of it, but as I went to check out & asked if I could use their coupon the checkout lady said no, and asked me if I was done asking her questions about the coupon! I have never had such rude customer service!! I factored in the scary time America is in right now but the store remained open, therefore, customers will continue to come in...still needing customer service. I heard the phone ring back and she never said a word. She just kept putting me on hold. I was on hold literally for over 5 mins. My friend and I went to Joann's on Saturday to purchase fabric for our Halloween costumes. We were able to find everything we were looking for without a problem. When we went over to the service counter to have our fabric cut, Brad assisted us. He is fantastic! He was so friendly and patient with us considering we had about 10 different things to be measured and cut on a very busy Saturday afternoon. He was full of great suggestions and even went out to the floor to grab another fabric that we liked better after telling him what we were trying to make. This location is a little smaller than the other locations I have visited but, the store is well organized and has a great selection. They also offer the same classes as the other locations and I enjoyed that they had a more streamlined craft book selection. They also have a variety of adult coloring books that everyone is into now. You can find odds and ends here, but notice: don't buy the venus fly traps for like $15... they never sprout and by the time they are supposed to it's past the time you can get a return, waste of money. Even though I didn't have any idea how many yards of fabric I needed to re-upholster my ottoman, the manager was very understanding and guided me through a pretty intimidated process; she took the time to walk me through the fabric measurements I needed and made sure I understood my project. I went to this store today to purchase mask supplies. Given there is a global pandemic, I did not expect it to be so crowded. I was extremely disappointed to find that social distancing is NOT practiced at all by customers. Leadership could implement policy to improve this, if they consider the stores to be essential in this time. The store is understaffed and the employees are working really hard. Also, it's a craft/sewing supply store, but not one employee was wearing a mask, because they're not allowed to? I absolutely love sewing and crafts and I always find the supplies I need here. They definitely have the best selection of fabric but my experiences here get worse every time I visit. They are constantly short staffed, I often find myself waiting at the cutting counter for 30 minutes or more, and then wait in the check out line for another 20 minutes because there is only one cashier. Joann's has a lot to learn regarding curbside pickup. After arriving at the store's parking lot, I called them as directed. I was on hold for quite a while which I don't mind because I know they are very busy. However, they disconnected the call several times. Once was after a person answered and said she needed to get the customers that were in line 1st. That's what really ticked me off. They already had my money because I had to pre-pay to make a purchase for curbside. There should've been a priority placed on customers who were there for curbside who had already paid for their purchases. You need to take some lessons from HEB and a couple other stores about how to do curbside the right way, JoAnn! read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I get texts almost daily that say 20 percent off your entire purchase, 50 percent off one full priced item. Get there, select my fabric and things I need. Get to the register, no that is only in-store for pickup, or online. I am tired of the switch and bait because I didn't read or understand the very fine print. I also received two coupons when checking out. The register print is so bad you can't read the fine print. Here we go again if I try to use them. I've spent a small fortune at Joann's. They have the best coupons for crafts. I especially love the teachers discount. That gives you an additional 15% off the already on sale items too. I love the surprise 25% off coupon on your total purchase. The staff is super friendly and it's never too busy. They have made the return policy a little more complicated so that is kind of annoying, but everything else makes up for it. It's my favorite craft store in Austin. read more

Finally this store has the space it deserves! I have have always loved this location for it's amazing selection of fabric, but their old spot was just so super crowded and hard to get through the aisles. But now they have a huge, glorious space, having taken over a large spot in Southpark Meadows and it couldn't be more fabulous as I think they've brought even MORE fabric. Friendly staff, people who are always interested in your project and ready with a helpful suggestion if you need one.
