Have you ever done some goofball action and said to yourself what were you thinking? Short answer: 1) yes and 2) yes and recently. I was leaving to go out of town at 7 am with a small tote bag. I was about to put it in my trunk until I realized I had left my car keys inside the house. So, I get my keys and then get into my car parked in the drive way. I hear this weird noise, but did not think anything of it. I was semi-awake, so I didn't give it a second thought. When I got halfway to my destination, my hubs calls me and said my clothes and shoes were on the car pavement in front of the house. You guessed it, I drove right over my tote bag. Amazingly, nothing was damaged other than my shoe box. So off I went to the Container Store to buy a plastic shoe box to replace the one I ran over and blasted to smithereens. Did I learn my lesson...absolutely? Don't take a tote!? No. If you are leaving early in the morning pack your things in the trunk the night before. read more

This store is very clean and easy to navigate. They have all sorts of containers for all sorts of needs. If you have any dolls/figures to display there are a lot of options you can find here. Also a good place for table displays as well. Prices can be a bit steep but not terrible. I found a few things here. read more

My first visit to the store was a big mixture of feelings over the selection here. It is impressively large, all types of shapes and sizes of all containers you can think of, all with a heavy price tag. I was dissuaded to purchase almost anything because I was looking at a minimum of $20 for something very small. And they had much cheaper options around $7-$8 however it wouldn't work with what I needed. The employees here were all also very cold, when I showed up here and saw all the people that were lining up before they opened up and the amount of cars in the parking lot I expected a much different store experience than what I encountered here. I ultimately ended up purchasing some of the cheapest things I could find because I could not justify buying something that's purchasable at other stores for much cheaper, I'm also upset that none of the employees even looked at me, offered help, or anything. read more

As I walked around I saw so many things that would help around my home. With the energy costs going up in Austin, I was thinking about a clothes drying rack to cut down on the drying cost. Probably one of the worse Container Store locations you'll ever deal with. I bought an Elfa custom closet ($$$), and they messed up my order multiple times after spending hours on the phone with them trying to make sure the right items are ordered. I'm not sure how this branch is still in business, but it definitely hurts their brand. I've been to other branches including San Diego branch, and it's a much, much better team there. read more

The container store ... I've been shopping at for my entire life as I love to be organized! I was in there yesterday, buying more shoeboxes as I just moved and needed more of the same. The store hasn't changed much in the 13 years that I've been gone from Austin. It's still even has things in the same place. Well, they tend to be pricey on some things to the point of being ridiculous, I'm pretty sure they probably have been hurt by Amazon significantly! If you want to pay that much for a closet, I would think you might be better off buying one of the closet systems instead of doing it here. This store is like a playground to me. I have designed Elfa closets in three different homes because I love the flexibility they provide. Since I have spent a lot of time at this store in Austin, I have to say the workers are not the same amazing people that once were there and I miss having such great in-store experiences. The men and younger females have been kind and helpful. I have had a few interactions with the mature female employees and they are outright rude. I hope CS finds their super power to be customer experience again because seasoned organizers can buy organizing products anywhere now. read more

I placed a $70 curbside pickup order before The Container Store opened today. I was only offered a slot for next business day pickup, which I accepted. I'll be first to admit that I secretly hoped that, like most other retailers, The Container Store would fill faster than expected. It's not that unusual in my experience. I've had that happen routinely in the past few days with warehouse clubs, home improvement stores, and liquor stores. I'm often able to pick up same day within a couple hours of my order without even having to beg for special dispensation. By mid-afternoon I'd heard nothing from The Container Store, so I thought I'd call and see what was possible. I spoke with Sylvia. I told her that these were items that are off the shelf (all the same item, as a matter of fact) with no measuring, cutting, or assembly involved. I also explained that I was trying to avoid two cross-town trips by combining with an event I have later today in the area. While she was polite, she was firm that the only way I could get my order sooner was to come in the store and pick up the items myself because they were "too busy" and all orders were filled first-come, first-served. Too busy to accommodate a reasonable customer request during a pandemic? Really? Container Store, as I said in my last review, you need to contain your staff and re-center on the customer. What I purchased is a commodity that you happened to be the least expensive way to buy. I'll remember this lesson next time and have less customer loyalty to your products. After all, the customer that has to wait and be inconvenienced also has all that time to change their mind. read more

Customer service is terrible. I normally only go inside but I tried online pickup. The experience was what I would expect from Walmart, except Walmart is actually better. It said I could pick up same day, so I placed my order (in the am). By 4 I still hadn't heard anything so I checked the status online, and it said to call them. Keep in mind I set up for text notifications and no email or text was sent. I call and only after the 3rd attempt did anyone pick up the phone. When they picked up, no greeting, just immediately set the phone down but I could hear muffled voices. After I kept saying HELLO, the person picked the phone up, bumped it a couple times, and then hung up on me. I tried again, and finally reached someone who said oh our phones are just dropping calls. How does that affect saying hello or anything??? I am told 2 of my items are out so they could ship to me. Cool. Then he said actually no they are no longer available. Ok then. I wait and still no electronic communication with pickup instructions. At 6:15, they call (I missed it) saying it was ready for pickup and let me know about the 2 items, and I got the text. Tell me why when I showed up less than an hour later they couldn't help me because they closed early. No signs on the door, no word of this when they left me vm about my order, AND when I called it said they were currently open. The hassle was too much, but I learned my lesson. I have always LOVED The Container Store but have noticed store organization and customer service slipping my last few visits. It has definitely become more difficult to find help from a staff member and the checkout lines are long. Also, every time I go there seems to be boxed merchandise choking the aisles making navigation difficult. The latest store rearrangement is far less logical than previous versions. Why is the travel section in the same aisle as the hooks and hangers section? Overall, the store was messy and disheveled. Boxes of new merchandise should stay in the backroom until staff are ready to put it on the shelves. Finally, I am finding the mix of products offered less appealing than pre-pandemic. For one, many of the lesser expensive basic items seem to be gone. In their place are expensive designer items that are more pretty than utilitarian. Second, an inordinate amount of shelf space is being taken up by the more expensive products. Do we really need an entire aisle (both sides) filled with "Stacks" jewelry boxes? Similarly, there do not appear to be any moderately priced, basic hangers available other than the store brand plastic tube hangers. Also, the inexpensive plastic drawer dividers for socks/underwear were gone with only expensive cloth options available. What made The Container Store great was the wide range of price points in their merchandise and the ability to find BASIC storage solutions at reasonable prices. While I understand that there is a higher profit margin on the expensive designer stuff, there needs to be a balance. Otherwise, I will be container shopping down the street at Target instead. read more

Finally took the dive and went in on the Elfa closet system for master bedroom and office closets. Wholly Crappola. If you're in it, it feels like a crazy time - so stick with it. Once it's complete, it's life changing. Never had closets like these in my LIFE and hopefully NEVER going back. Now....for the store experience, take your time and find a designer who you really feel works for you. YES, they are all qualified and able to do it - but I found after working through four to get to Keith, that not all designers are created equal. SO! Keith, Keith, Keith! (Keith May) Awesome on all levels in our experience and helped navigate all the way through me installing it myself and the wrap up at the end. He had great recommendations, took hints and had an intuitive knack for what I was looking for as well got it done. The Container Store is awesome according to my wife. Do not let your significant other run loose in The Container Store. You can go broke. My wife wants to buy everything and I mean everything. Seriously, this place is awesome. It is just pricey. You can buy many things at other stores for a lower price, but the main selling point of The Container Store is their organize shelving. This is their bread and butter. They are real good at setting up a walkin closet or a kitchen pantry. Just have some measurements of the space in question and flag down an associate. It is a very simple process. Very visual. Very hands on. They have patience and do a great job. The Container Store has many sales through the year, but the one where they have 30% off a select shelving type was just awesome deal. Usually from end of December to end of February. The Container Store is not cheap, but it does a good job on providing the items a new house would need. I look at my purchase(s) as an investment in our new house. CC friendly. Awesome staff. It's always fun shopping at a Container Store. It's one of those places that has the one thing you never knew you needed...until you come across it there! Sometimes, these items are majorly awesome, such as the *perfect* jewelry or gift containers you need for the holidays. It's a very cool place to go when you're stuck for gift ideas. As a bonus, the staff has a sense of humor. I once asked a clerk, "If you guys are all about saving space, how come this store takes up a quarter-block?" Without missing a beat he replied, "Actually, before we took over the lease, this store took up *four* blocks." I only have to take off a star for two reasons: first, the drive here and the parking situation is a thorny, knotty problem. Second, this store is always understaffed for cashier help. The Container Store is losing it. Maybe because of Covid, but they desperately need more employees. Call the nationwide number to place an order (I only wanted 2 items, though one needed to be cut) and it would be 11 days before they'd have it ready. Called the local number and they didn't have anyone working who could do the cut, and they said they'd be really busy the next day to where it could be 48 hours before they could do the cut. These "cuts," of about 2 to 3 inches take less than a minute to do. I know because they've done it before for me probably 5 different times in the past. Recommendation: Hire more people!!! Lots of people are looking for work, so now's the time buddy boy. It'd also take a little pressure off the current staff who sounded pressed to the limit and easily irritated when I called. Sounds like management needs to get their act together to me. read more

Amazing store to help organize your stuff! I was able to click and pick up! I ordered some shelf organizers and a holder for my scarves. Unfortunately, I have let my closet get crazy so I needed some organization help! It was super easy and fast to get my items! I ordered online, checked in once I got close to the store then you get a progress update. It even includes the employee's name and photo so you can retrieve your goodies! There are parking spaces designated for online orders, but I wanted to go in the store to browse. The workers were very friendly here and helpful. I like getting organization ideas here. During our time in the store no employees helped my wife and I, completely ignored us while being quick to help other customers that were not the same skin colors as my wife and I (I thought it was just me assuming this, until my wife noticed the same) The only employee that showed any sort of customer service was the woman working at the register we approached to pay for the item we bought. read more

I was waiting in line for like fifteen minutes, with three people ahead of me and like 5 behind, while two ladies took FOREVER checking two women out. Just before it was my turn, one of the employees operating the register stepped out from behind the counter, and started wiping down carts, in plain view of, at that point, like eight people waiting. Then she walked back behind the register and started folding cardboard boxes? When there are eight people waiting to get checked out, why would you get off the register and do menial shit that doesn't matter? In plain view? Like they're all looking at you? What the fuck? In total, I waited TWENTY FIVE minutes to buy my stupid plastic containers. That woman's stunt cost me at least 5 minutes. I went to HEB right after, walked around the entire store, picked up about 20 items, waited in line, paid, loaded up my car and pulled out the parking lot in like five minutes less time than I spent just waiting in line at the Container Store. Now I've wasted five more minutes of my life. Well I don't know if it was a waste, because I kind of enjoyed writing this. read more

Store was filthy and disorganized- boxes of junk everywhere that prevented shoppers from navigating the aisles. The one star is for the checkout experience. I stood in line several minutes only to be told by a blonde, balding male cashier that I was standing in the wrong place and the line was several yards to the left. There was no signage or logical way to discern where the checkout line was. This cashier watched me standing and holding items at a social distance behind his register for several minutes and said nothing. The Container store is overpriced anyway, but I wanted some specific closet organizers. I will do without. I will not now or ever spend my money on a store with such poor organization or customer service. I frankly hope these rude folks go the way of Lord and Taylor. read more

This location has terrible customer service! I first visited the store after just moving into my condo. I spoke to a sales person about closets and booked a return visit for the following week. I went in for my appointment and two parties walked in ahead of me and both were greeted by designers while I just stood there. I know the designers saw me but it wasn't until about 10 minutes that one snobbishly asked "may I help you?" When I said I had an appointment, his tone changed and he said someone would be right out. The designer who came out did not seem well versed in the systems and was not open to discussing the Avara line because I had told her my ideal budget was 5k and the Avara model on the floor was around 7k. My closet is much smaller than the model and I didn't need certain premium things like integrated lighting which would have dropped the price significantly. Finally, after she continued to steer me back to Elfa, I had to insist on her quoting the Avara model. She told me that she would complete my guest closet quote that day and then the Avara quote would be done sometime soon. I waited a week with no response and went forward with another company on my master closet. Because I needed a desk for the guest bedroom configuration, I still wanted to go with the Container Store. I called into the support team and the designer had entered my order in under an incorrect email address. I thought this was funny because my email was listed in the computer with my appointment and I am a POP member - basically they have my email all over their systems. After about an hour of making changes to the design we finalized it and I booked installation. I asked for my email to be corrected, I was told it was. After waiting hours for the delivery folks to come (delivery and installation are two separate events) I called to see where they were and was told they couldn't locate my order. They finally looked it up with my phone number and I asked them to attach my correct email to the order. They said it was a "one time glitch." Doug the installer was the one bright light in this whole transaction. He was fantastic and just seemed like a wonderful human being all around. Too bad he wasn't the final person I had to work with. Because 6 of the shelves I ordered were not in stock in time for delivery, I was told I would need to go pick them up at the store. Because this entire process had been a cluster, I called and asked if they could check that they had the shelves before sending my husband to pick them up. The man on the phone asked me what size shelf, I told him, and he said "we have plenty." I said "are you sure you have the ones from my order versus just having stock in the store." He said "yeah were fine because it is showing plenty and your order would have been provisioned from my stock." I said "ok can you check that my order pulls up because I don't have a receipt because they sent it to the wrong email." He was like "it'll be fine." I bet no one who has read this far is surprised that my husband went to the store, found the same guy I was on the phone with, couldn't find my order with my email, and then SAID THEY HAD NO SHELVES IN STOCK. Literally 20 mins had passed since my earlier conversation. Save yourself the grief and go with another closet vendor - any other vendor would be an improvement over this place. read more

Very poor checkout service. Long lines and they don't have a single line, so you can be stuck on a line behind someone with a lot of issues and the other lines will keep moving, but you won't. Last visit, the cashier totally screwed up the price and after looking at the receipt, I told her, and she had me wait while helping other customers. I tried curbside pickup once and had to wait over 15 minutes for someone to come out. Only shop here when can't find a product elsewhere as prices are much higher than in other stores. read more

Deceptive marketing tactics. BEWARE as the hourly folks don't care about customers. Another brick and mortar soon to go due to idiocracy. They promote "free installations" after you spend X amount but also run 15%-20% off promotions to sucker you in. After the sale they have you reach out to the installation folks for scheduling who then let you know that you are not eligible for the free installation because you received 15% off promotion. The free installation is only on non discounted products. The installation is a flat 25% fee across the board off the original price so taking my 15% off Birthday discount actually added 10% more to my cost. LOL. Returned, went online, and went with a competitor. Only cost me time. No biggie. See you in the shadows of JC Penny, Sears, and KMart very soon. read more

We just had our "Preston" installation completed by the Container store in Austin, and we are delighted with the results. The completed installation included three wardrobe units with drawers, shelves, rods for hanging clothes, and special shelves for shoes. All drawers and doors have self closing hardware. The bedroom is small with a kingsize bed, nightstands, and with carefull measurements the completed unit fit perfectly. The parts, and installer showed up on time as scheduled. Wow, for a company that prides itself on service, the Austin location has really slipped. They still have wonderful products, okay prices, fabulous closets, but the service just isn't there anymore. At least not at this store. Finding someone who can help you find a product or answer a question I think requires luck. Checking out is quite painful. There's usually going to be some large purchases that require some time, but additional checkouts being opened, just doesn't happen. My last two or three shopping experiences have been pretty poor. One of my favorite stores, because I like to containerize my stuff. The latest visit was for a particular item. Needed to organizer under my kitchen sink. Needless to say, I had to peruse the entire store. I do this to sometimes come up with my own ideas for storage. They have storage options for every room in the house and office. Most items come in variety of material; plastic, wood, metal, etc. I did find an under sink organizer in the last section of the store. I didn't ask for help finding it as I was enjoying myself. Previous visits when I have had to ask, they were extremely helpful. Most pricing is very reasonable. As usual, I left this store with more than I came in for. read more

This is the second time I have encountered the problem of this location's rude salespeople. I was ignored by all of them, including the greeter. Yet they were friendly towards other customers so I do not understand why I was invisible. Maybe my race or age? Something else? I had planned to purchase several items for organizing my new home. I asked for her name and she told me Tracey. I wouldn't shop here if someone paid me. I love the container store in general but I will continue coming back to this location specifically for one of their employees named Laci. She has helped my boyfriend and I on two separate occasions (when we came back the second time a few weeks later she remembered us and the items we purchased the first time). Laci is incredibly knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. We're getting our house ready for a newborn and while we're overwhelmed and feeling lost it's nice to have a reliable (and super sweet) person helping us get the best items.
