The Carson City JOANN Fabric and Crafts is okay. They have cut way back on their scrapbook items. They have a fair variety of fabrics.

The new manager, ironically named "Joann", of the Carson City location is rude, abrasive and not at all able to handle customer service. We were not the only ones to encounter her nasty attitude, as we heard her berating another customer while we were there as well. Sadly, there is no other fabric store in Carson City, but I will driving to Reno and shopping elsewhere if at all possible! As a counterpoint, the woman at the front counter, "Rita" was very kind and apologized for the way we were treated. I am spreading to word to family and friends, with recommendation that they NOT to shop at the Carson City location. I was very, very disappointed and appalled during my visit today!! read more

I called ahead to ask if they had amber and amethyst beads and was told yes. I drove 45 minutes to get here, didn't see the beads. I found an employee, told her I called ahead about them and asked where they would be and was rudely pointed in the direction of the isle I just spent time in and spoken to like I was an idiot. Then she said she had no idea if they had them. Terrible customer service. Will not be back. read more

Joann Fabrics is a super store with lots of selections and the friendliest staff on earth. I think the fact that their work is not stressful, they become happier human beings. Nicely equiped store with a wide selection of fabrics and prints. I was a bit disappointed the manor in which one had to try and maneuver around the store. It was difficult to get up some isles. Resulting in having to leave my cart at one end of the isle and walk down to get what I needed; carry back to the cart; and then get around to the next area. The staff was relatively cordial. Not the most friendly. I also found them to be extremely opinionated and critical about whatever they are passionate about. Unfortunately, most of those opinions were unsolicited, took too much time at the register; and held up the lines; sometimes 3-4 deep. Some of the prices were good. My wife had purchased some fabric for a project, and found she was a couple of yards short.She knew the store had it in stock, because she had seen it. We went back to the store just after the COVID closures when they were doing curbside pickup only. They were taking only phone orders, and it took just under four hours to get through to someone and have them tell us they couldn't find the fabric. We tried to show them a sample, but they were unwilling to assist us. So, we decided to order online. It required over two weeks to receive the shipment - she had ordered a bright blue calico fabric with a gold star pattern. What she received was a piece of plain lavender flannel. And this is where it gets difficult. In normal times, Joann has a very difficult return policy. They bury a customer service phone number deep in their fine print, which is only open until 3 pm. The way you ask for a return is to fill out an online form and wait. They say normally that the turnaround time is 24-48 hours, but that right now it "will take longer". After almost a week of no response, I was able to fine the above mentioned secret customer service phone number, and called it. It's a recording that says they've closed their customer service line, and to fill out their online form. So I did that again, and several days later have no response to either email. The cherry on top came yesterday. Joann sent me an email asking how my wife liked her order, and asking her to send a picture of her project. Which she can't finish because they won't send her order. The email asked us to review them, so we did. It was not complimentary, but it was also not abusive - just a straight description of what had happened and a comment that we would not suggest anyone shop at Joann. JoAnn has no customer service staff available to ship the fabric we ordered a month ago, but in less than 24 hours they managed to answer our review, telling us that they were sorry, but since it was a negative review they weren't going to post it. So from that we learned two things. Reviews on the JoAnn website are worthless, because they censor out any bad ones. And, there must be lots of those, because JoAnn apparently can't fulfill orders correctly, nor make it right when they mess it up. If you need fabric or other supplies, get them absolutely anywhere besides JoAnn Fabric. read more

I didn't mind the wait for the lady to help the man in front of me for :30 minutes. I waited nicely. Asked prior to get my foam cut if they can trim it to 12" for me since I can't at home. I'm still purchasing the whole yard. Why couldn't they just trim it down for me? I'm not returning it! Where has Customer Service gone to in the new millennium? I ended up going to a locally owned upholstery shop and they cut and wrapped and higher quality foam for me at half the price of Joann's. I always look forward to going to Joanne's. It's usually when I have a project like redecorating my daughters room or making curtains. I always seem to find what I need. They have a huge selection of upholstery fabric and a ton of sewing supplies. I love that they always have coupons and my last trip a few days ago the manager was so helpful. I didn't get her name but she was friendly and an EXPERT at customer service. Left there very happy! Can't wait to go back ! read more

This review is not for the store as much as it is for an employee named Morgan I think it was. I walked in tonight right about 5:00 p.m. with a large, black yard garbage bag covering the two Christmas boxes I wished to return. You see, it was raining most of today and I wanted to protect the two things I needed to return. Hard to miss my Santa bag full of 2 large boxes. Anyhow, she had just finished helping an older man and a woman, one of which was in a wheelchair. Out the door they went. I walked immediately up to her. As I approached, I sat my things on the counter to her left. She actually said, "oh, I'm working on this side" to apparently indicate that I needed to move the bag over to the right side. I'm pretty sure any other employee would have grabbed the bag and moved it over, but Morgan wanted me to do it. Fine. I sat the huge bag on the counter to the right of the register while stating "I have a return, but I'm not quite sure how it works since I placed the order online". She apparently was too busy texting someone to pay attention to what I had said. She held her phone down below the counter as I watched her continue to text. When she did look up she said something to the effect of "oh, so you're picking up an order?" After having just left grocery outlet where a checker screwed up basic grocery store etiquette (next in line procedure), my patience was starting to wear thin. I said curtly and correctively, "No. I'm returning the two big boxes that I just placed right in front of you in this huge bag!!!" Normally, I'm pretty nice to people, especially those working in retail. But, when the young kid behind the counter can't be bothered to pay attention to what I said initially, continues to text, and then cannot repeat back to me what I just said or even guess in the right ballpark, I'm a little more than frustrated. Once she put her phone away, she was able to process the return flawlessly using my cell phone with the order number that I had brought up prior to entering the store. Anyhow, I'm not really sure why she held her phone down below the counter level. I could easily see what she was doing. I probably would not have even paid any attention had she been able to multitask. I had a job for many years that required me to listen to multiple people talking, often during emergent situations, so I kind of feel like I know what I'm talking about when it comes to being able to listen & do multiple things. But obviously, one person talking to her while she was fixated on her phone was a little too much. My recommendation is if you cannot do the one thing you're getting paid for while still doing the thing you are not getting paid for, one of those things has to go away. Hopefully, she reads this and understands which one thing should go away. Since I'm guessing it might be beyond her grasp, I'll just spell it out. Put. Your. Phone. Away. You can thank me later for the career advice. Don't worry, Joann. I will be back. I still will need the things you sell. But if I have a repeat performance by Morgan, I will probably say something out loud for people to hear. read more

Located in a decrepit, sad, mostly empty strip mall. I always get depressed driving up to this location. The store itself almost always has what I need for a craft project. This time I was in search of gallery-style picture frames for some textiles, but I've also purchased fleece and beading supplies in the past. Service is hit or miss - either you can be a ghost in the store and totally ignored, or you get asked 3 times in 2 minutes if you need help. Take advantage of their coupons and check out their clearance section - sometimes great bargains can be had. read more

Joann Fabrics has always been my wife's go to place for fabric related products. That is until we moved to the Carson Valley! She's had so many encounters with staff that are more than unpleasant. Today, she asked me to stop there to get some Velcro products which were to be cut by the yard. She said go to the cutting table and give them this note and samples and they'll get the two items, cut them on you'll be on your way. WRONG! There were 3 customers in the entire store and 2 employees at the register who were busy telling stories. I walked in, asked where the cutting table was and Vanessa started walking back. She stopped and said "you have to go to A18 and pick it out and then we'll cut it . "Where is A18?" She pointed to a corner in the store and left. I meandered the aisles (no indicators of where I was) and couldn't find what I needed. After about 5 minutes I gave up and walked to the front of the store only to find Vanessa and a cashier standing there gossiping about someone. Admittedly I'm not a fabric store pro so I said "you left me hanging and I can't find what I'm looking for. Will you please come help me find these?" At which I was told by Vanessa "I told you look on A18...I'm NOT your personal shopper!" I said "really?" and walked out. I Googled fabric stores in Carson City, found Out of My Mindesigns where Ian was more than happy to help and I was in and out quickly! My wife and I have sworn off JoAnn Fabrics! read more

Having shopped here for 17 years, the staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and patient with customers who do not know what they need for projects. Yes, it is smaller than a store in a larger city, but still has an incredibly large selection of items for virtually all arts and crafts. And unlike larger stores, you can find helpful staff! To answer another customer's negative comments, like any other store, if you are a regular, you know where items are stocked. By comparison, like going to ANY store that is unknown to you, layout may be different than what you are accustomed to. And, by the way, they DO have a restroom in the store. read more

Very friendly ladies with nothing better to do than cut felt for me generously provided exceptional customer service and even found me a killer deal on some purple fleece. Thanks for watching out for my pocketbook! All that felt I bought can really add up... to about $9! Moved here from SoCal 6 months ago. Was happy to know there was a Joann's near by. Very disappointed to learn they are so small and limited in most things with exception of fabric. At Christmas they had no holiday card stock paper. Their supplies for paper craft suck, i.e. adhesive tape, We R Memory Keeper punches, dies, embossing folders. Limited selection of buttons, and storage containers. I need to buy more ribbon but they no longer had it so I'm SOL and have to rethink my project. read more

The best thing about Joanne's is it isn't way out of the way. It's got a great location downtown. I love to shop here with coupons from competitiors,and they allow coupons to be used on books. I like the selection and the clearance is always awesome. Sometimes though I feel like they don't pay attention to me because I don't fit the look of a typical customer. I have waited and someone else has been helped before me. But overall this is a decent store. read more

This is a smaller store but does have a fair amount of fabric and craft supplies. I like to sew with heavier upholstery fabrics, but when I need lining, lace or chiffon this is my go to place. A good place to purchase patterns and everyday notions for sure. The staff is friendly and helpful and the parking is close! read more

I had a very bad experience today. The adverised prices on the shelves were not honored, instead Carla made me feel as if it was my fault that the fabric was mislabeled. I had to hear about bad staff they had in the store the day before how incompetent they were and clogged their toilete. (Not sure why I had to hear that). I will never go in this store again. What an experience! Today apparently was inventory day, must have been 25 people in there working. Fabric piled on the floors getting dirty, fabrics and people blocking the way, no indication of this on the door. Why can't they do this at night? Then I went to go checkout after selecting the amount of fabric they didn't have enough of, after stepping over people redoing the pattern drawers while I tried to find patterns in drawers that were miss marked . I tried to use my $5 coupon off of $30 or above purchase. My total was $30.06. The cashier keeps telling me I need $3 more in items and is trying to sell me soap and candy! Finally I just left. I have shopped in Jo-Ann's for decades; however this Jo-Ann's has disappointed many times.They are a store that sells fabric but have not had bags large enough to hold fabric purchases.Yesterday I purchased 3 yards of batting (very bulky) and fabric and had to carrying out of the or snow store unbagged. Thank goodness it was not raining or snowing! On on a previous visit I was given a trash bag for my purchases. read more

I hate this store. Every time I go in there is a problem with with prices on shelf or bolt of fabric or sale prices or coupon prices. I bought fabric with the price on the bolt at $9.99 and on the shelf. Not a sale price. Was charged $14.99. She said its supposed to be $14.99. Then just refunded part of the price. I still think I over paid even though she refunded some. Didn't start over and charge the $9.99. I hate this store. read more

I am a local and will NEVER return to this Store again! I will drive to Reno where the staff is friendly and the selection is better. The lady who cut my fabric was very friendly, but messup my cut ticket by charging me too much. She promptly appologized and said she had fixed it for me. The cashier was horrible! If you do not want to work with the public and be friendly, go home! When she scanned my cut ticket, the price still didn't seem right and upon questioning it, she not only proceeded to raiser her voice, but was very condascending and impatient. I only asked a simple question. I looked at her and all I said was Excuse me, and I'm done. I don't need to be spoken to like that, especially when I was calm and asked one question. I like this store very friendly staff I just wish it was bigger! I was looking for a certain type of yarn and they only have one yarn isle!
