Yesterday, my mom and I came to Joann Fabrics to get some fabrics for her sewing projects. There was a sale on some fabrics and the choices here are much more vast than the place we go to at home in Windsor. So we came to this location in Grosse Point, because it's close. The parking lot is not right next to the entrance, but a few feet up. Which was fine, we ended up parking next to Kerby Field, which I'm assuming is a park in the area. Everything in this town is so small and condensed, and so was this location too. Most locations are bigger and more up to date, but that didn't make them have less selection, if not they had a bit more of the fabrics my mom was looking for. The staff were very nice and helpful, after we found what we were looking for in fabrics, we went to the cutting station and the employee was very nice, asked us what we were doing with the fabrics, cut them to the length we asked for and told us to have a nice day. We also went by some of the areas where they had baking stuff, and picked up two of Rossana Pansino's poop emoji moulds, we can't get these at regular stores in Canada, so I picked up two to make for Christmas! The only thing that would have made this experience a bit better was the fact they had lack of cashiers up at the front tills and the line up was getting a bit long, and people were getting a bit impatient. There were two cashiers, the one who took us was nice and friendly, as was everyone who worked there that we had encountered. Overall good experience for this smaller location, but bigger on the inside (see what I did there?) This location had some good selection and were most likely to be back if we need more fabrics or materials. read more

Love shopping at Joann fabrics. Smaller store than some but still has a fairly good selection. Seems a bit crowded and cluttered, due to its size I'm sure. That being said this store is terribly understaffed, stood in line for over 30 minutes because there were only two employees in store. Employee at registers was very apologetic about long wait. Crazy to be so understaffed especially during the holiday season. read more

For a Joann fabric store think a normal size store consolidated into 1/3 of what it normally is. This is a craft store that you can run and get what you need but dont expect to find everything here. They have only 2 small seasonal isles. And one isle of everything else. They do have fabric but not much. The employees are rude from the girl out of college working at a craft store who talks way to much and needs to get a real job. And then you have the older lady's who just need to throw in the towel and retire. They have a useless security gaurd at the door who always is on the phone. Just a cluster mess disaster. I honestly dont know how they stay in business. If it wasn't for its convenient location I would go elsewhere. read more

I was so unimpressed with my experience that as soon as I got out of my car I put down my bags and created a Yelp account just to lament on how... not good... this place is. There's a parking lot behind the store. There are five spaces. One is handicapped, so that's cool. But it looks more like a junk collector's crammed backyard than that of a parking lot. In fact, I didn't even realize it was there and made the mistake of parking out front where there is metered parking. Only some of the meters work, so I was already off to a bad start. The front entrance is closed and flanked with signs that tell you to enter through the back. The signs are so weathered that they're easily overlooked until you're actually standing at the front door. They probably have not been touched up or replaced in 20 years. Then again, that could be said for most of the building. If you picture "1990's housewife," that's the aesthetic this establishment has. And of course, there's no real way to walk from the front of the building to the rear. One side is walled off by a fast food drive through next door and the other side is a field with stretches of pavement that run along the building and are less than a foot wide. It's easier to walk in the grass. Upon entering the building, it's jarring to see a layout that resembles a modern JoAnn Fabrics store that was poorly feng shui'd into a space that's not quite big enough. I thought the building looked too small from the outside to be a JoAnn Fabrics. I was right. And the weirdest thing is that for as packed as it was, the store felt empty. The selection I expect from other locations wasn't there. Thinking about it now, I wonder if this location gets all the unsold overstock from other stores. There was an unnecessary amount of clearance holiday items but the aisles with regular merchandise were poorly stocked. I got disoriented a couple times in there because the organization and layout aren't well thought out and I thought I was in one spot when it turned out I was on the other side of the store. For a place already lacking in space, they sure like to put the same item in multiple spots. Other items felt like they had been lost to time. There were clearance items with different types of price stickers, like someone had found a roll of an older style in the back they decided to use when pricing them. I'm positive that some things in that store are destined to only collect dust - of which there is a lot. I'm used to long lines at JoAnn Fabrics when I'm checking out but that's usually because there are a lot of people in line, not because there's only one person working the front registers. And it was not the store's fault that one woman ahead of me decided to pay for her purchase with five dollars in pennies, but that certainly did not make my experience any better. There is a difference between customers approaching the register and asking the cashier to call for another employee to help them and asking, "Is anyone else working or are you alone?" To be fair, there was one other person I know of who was working at the time. I saw her walking in and out of the backroom. Once I finally was able to approach the register so I could check out, I felt too rushed to voice my concern about how a couple of the items rang up. I was also grossed out because the cashier wiped her nose across the back of her hand and I'd had enough and wanted to leave. I don't understand how this store operates and I would be shocked if there's a long term future for this location. I'm trying to think of any positive aspects to my visit and all I can come up with is that I'm glad I didn't get a parking ticket while I was standing in line behind a customer who brought in a bag of pennies just so she could "get rid of them." read more

I wanted to share a bit about an experience I had with a woman named Stephanie who works at the Joann store in Grosse Pointe, Michigan on Mack Avenue. She is excellent. I have covid and have been stuck in my house and so lonely and having to care for myself for about a week now. My father suggested that I order myself something from Joann and he could pick it up on his way home from work and drop it off on my front porch. It was something so exciting for me to do (finally) and something for me to look forward to. I placed my order and my father was almost to the store when I got an email that the yarn I had selected wasn't available any longer and I was being reimbursed. I called right away to simply cancel the remainder of my order, but instead, Stephanie answered and stayed on the phone with me while I selected a different color of the yarn and she made sure it was available and in the bag for my father to pick up. She wished me a speedy recovery and I know people say it's the simple things, but in this case Stephanie's care and handling of my issue made my entire day feel a bit lighter and right now there is nothing more that I could have asked for. This Joann is nice, clean and organized. There is always a deal going on here and sometimes things will pop up even cheaper at the register. Also check their website for coupons you can use. They have everything from fabric to scarp book materials. Also jewelry making materials and cake design supplies. Pretty much anything you need to be creative and create something. read more

Oh, my. I'm surprised this store is still open. Absolutely no parking for the place, there is a large dumpster which takes up what would be four or five spots on one side. Limited parking allowed in the alley by playground. "Security" guard sitting in a chair in a cubbyhole just inside the door has her head in her phone. Dirty, dated store. I needed some direction as to a particular type of fabric, but the one woman on the floor, at the cutting desk, spent 15 minutes with a woman discussing the merits of lining a child's princess cape for trick or treating while the line grew. Happened to then find another employee and she referred me to the lady at the cutting desk. Finally when I could interrupt the teal-cape discussion, the employee waved her hand and indicated I should look through the thousand or so bolts on the far wall. I left. read more

I can only assume that this store is under new management. I have noticed a decline in service and cleanliness of the store. Tonight was the last straw and a very bad experience. I went in for one piece of fabric and it took over an hour to get it cut and to check out. The lines were "holiday long" because there was only one person cutting and one person checking out. The store was messy and unorganized. I have shopped here for many years as it is close to my home. I will drive further for any fabric or craft needs - this was my last visit. I would not recommend this store to anyone. read more
