The fabric quality certainly isn't what it used to be. Pattern matching was impossible with a…read moreplaid as it was severely off grain, when I complained I was told that is how woven fabrics are now a days. I'd accept that for $5 a yard fabric but not for $25 a yard fabric. I guess I need to make a trip to London or NYC to get decent fabric.

How this business has survived is beyond me. The warehouse is a complete dump and looks like a…read moremidtown garment-district building circa 1980. For the prices they charge and low-quality / discontinued fabric, this is far from an upscale fabric / upholstery atelier. The customer service is worse than the product and presentation. Upon walking in, no one greeted me, despite the fact that two employees were chatting at the central desk near the door. I found my way to the back area with the upholstery fabric. I wandered around a bit looking at the myriad sample decks. Because there was no information or pricing on anything, I returned and waited for the woman at the central desk to finish her chit-chat before acknowledging me. She apologized for being short-staffed (so probably not a good time to stand around and chat.) Upon arriving back in the upholstery fabric area, I began explaining my project and said I was seeking fabric in the $30-40/yard range. She abruptly cut me off and said sharply, "Don't have it." I explained I was able to find quite a few options online and know they exist in this range elsewhere and she snapped, "Then go online." I continued the conversation forward by describing the overall dimensions of the cushion seating bench and she again cut me off with a sharp-toned "How many yards?" as if I didn't know how to plan a cushion (or add and multiply). I bluntly replied, "Don't be short with me. I've been sewing for 30 years." I never understand why so-called "experts" (sales clerks) feel the need to be defensive and condescending rather than patient and helpful. There are a million questions she SHOULD have asked before this last one: desired quality, use, color, pattern, touch, durability, etc. Once we discussed details a bit more, she said, "All we have in the $30 range is cotton." If you had something in that range, why didn't you say so in the first place . . . other than trying to steer me into a higher price? When she showed me the swatches, I asked for the specific pricing as nothing was labeled. She replied with, "Can you imagine if we had to price everything individually?" At the end of my rope with her, I simply stated, "Yeah, you would actually have to work." I then turned and walked out. Too bad she couldn't have been attentive, pleasant, and helpful. Had she treated me with respect and courtesy, she would have made nice sale and new customer. Instead, she earned the store yet another 1-star rating on Yelp.

I needed some happy in my day, so after seeing their social media content for several months, I…read moredrove up to Imlay city to check them out. It was an immediate win when their sweet pup Oliver ran to the door to greet me and patiently waited for pets and belly rubs. I could have spent all day there just for him but the selection of beautiful fabrics pulled me back to the shop. They have a wonderfully curated selection of fabrics, notions, patterns and machines. I'm not currently in the market for a new machine but it seemed like they make it very possible to test drive all of their options. I loved seeing all the projects around the shop as well. The owner is truly such a friendly and approachable person. Im new to the sewing world so I asked for her advice on how much fabric I might need for a quilted vest. She took the time to look up a pattern and offered their suggested requirements. It's a simple gesture but that extra moment made a huge impact on me. I will definitely be back in store and most likely spend online as well. Prices are very affordable for the brands they offer. I've noticed some online shops charge a bit more for newer Ruby star collections and exclude them from any sales. That wasn't the case here, they had very competitive pricing and a nice selection of sale cuts and bolts. Im so excited to have a shop in Michigan that checks all my boxes of being welcoming, inclusive and having a great variety of products.

I happened upon this shop today and was so impressed and pleased with their selection. If I could…read morehave stayed for hours I would have happily done so. The folks there had wonderful suggestions for me and such obvious passion for the arts of quilting and sewing. Honestly such a joyous place.
