I've had lots of success with this location. I love the sales. The sales associates are fantastic. They are quite knowledgable and well trained as customer service reps. My only problem with the location has to do with the fact that there are no electric carts available for those of us that are mobility challenged. Fabric shopping requires a lot of time. I went there yesterday knowing what I wanted. I had looked online to decide what I needed for my quilt. I was unable to complete my shopping due the amount of pain I felt from standing and hunting. The place was busy. Two registers were in use, and there was a line. I saw the cutting line when I entered the building. So I left. There's about six handicap parking spots that are almost always occupied, and there are no electric carts available. read more

They have a pretty big selection of fabrics and if you shop their sales and use their coupons you can get a pretty good deal, otherwise they are kinda pricey. The store is kinda dirty though and there's always a long wait at the cut counter. All in all though, it is better than the other craft stores in modesto. read more

As a customer at JoAnn's in Modesto, I'm just going to respond to the person from Riverbank by informing her that it's extremely possible that the employees standing around the cut-station were waiting to clock in. According to state and federal law, employees cannot work "off the clock". I've been told before, by the employees, that as soon as they can clock in (at the cut-station computer), then they can help me. And, I've also noted that they DO call for help, but not on the loudspeaker. They call on the little radios they carry around. So, it's not always noticeable when they place that call. I've found that the most impatient and rudest customers that I've witnessed at this store are the very ones that threaten to take their business elsewhere. If you "prefer" to shop out of town, then do it! Those of us who are frequent shoppers at JoAnn's would have a much more pleasant experience not having to listen to your impatient griping and whining. On another note, this JoAnn's just did a remodel and I am so pleased with the expansion of some of their craft depts! But, I'm disappointed with what they did to parts of their fabric dept. The fabric is so high up, you get a kink in the neck just looking. I'm hoping they're not quite done rearranging the fabric area. This store is not perfect, but they are trying and they do have some very nice and helpful employees. read more

Right now, not happy. Have been waiting for 45 minutes to have fabric cut. Many people are standing around also waiting. This guy behind the cut counter for some reason is oblivious to everything around him as he is flirting with a customer loud enough for everyone to hear. People are starting to put their things down and leave. This is good for me...however I should have been home by now. read more

Dirty is right. Fabric is frequently stacked on the dirty floor, behind the cut table, after cutting. I inspected some wool, to purchase. I don't like lice, mouse droppings, or cock roaches. Everything in your home must be sanitized, and boiled, to remove lice nits, and once cock roaches lay eggs, they hatch all over your home. You are right about the Manager being crabby, like she hates her job. I left, since Hobby Lobby is right around the corner, and much cleaner. read more

I have shopped here for about 7 years and, while they have a large selection of everything, I have to say I avoid shopping there for fabric, particularly in recent months. The fabric department has always been messy with bolts of fabric on the floor, all mixed up, etc. But now, the aisles are so narrow that two carts can't pass and the fabric is stacked 3 or 4 tiers high, so that the top bolts cannot even be reached by most, and even if they can, you risk having several adjacent bolts come down on your head as you attempt to slide out one. I think this is a severe hazard in case of fire, earthquake, or anything else causing panic. People would be hit and trapped under numerous bolts of fabric from these high stackings. In addition, this type of display makes it really difficult to find what you're looking for. Yes, they do have the selection, but it's an unpleasant place to shop. Also, there is seldom enough help at the cutting station and you may have to wait in a line 10 deep to get waited on. read more
