It is very sad to see the Joanne Fabric company closing. I went here today looking for a bargain, and did not find one. A lot of the fabric was on the floor (the store had just opened so it should not have been). I have been noticing over the years the pricing was really getting out of hand. I don't think this store has ever been one of their top stores. It is always very messy. I think for the most part the sales team try their best. A lot of the sections are empty, because they are leaving but the prices have not gotten better at all. I thought since they were leaving I would get a bargain, but no there is none here. I don't understand all the negative reviews - other than to say that all these other reviewers are themselves negative. As they say: "If everyone you meet has a problem, maybe you're the problem." I any event - I encountered very friendly staff at the location in Natick who were very helpful and answered my questions right away. I genuinely feel for the people working there - having to deal with needy, rude customers for hours on end - a thankless job if there ever was one. I was surprised by the assortment of items they carried including acrylic paints, professional art markers, plastic storage organizers, various adhesives and a whole lot of other things from a wide array of departments. It's kind of a mini-michael's, but with a robust fabric department. Anyway, it's important to support these brick-and-mortar stores - as they are an endangered species and still much better than having to get everything from Amazon. read more

I don't sew and I am definitely not "crafty", BUT when I get an idea stuck in my head I am determined to figure it out. My latest idea involved curtain tiebacks, and I needed to see ribbon in person to match a color. I have only been in one other Joann location (in VA) but I know this is an older location that has been here forever. Maybe it isn't new/flashy like other locations (wherever those are) BUT the store was clean, organized and there were not items thrown on shelves, stuff on the floor, etc. As I was looking at ribbon, I noticed the fancy stuff behind me (I suppose you would call it "trim"?); now I need to hold off until I look at endless photos of curtains with that instead. Kudos to the store for allowing dogs (makes errands possible on a hot day) as well, although he wasn't too interested in the Boston sports fabric. This Joann Fabrics location is spectacularly horrible. The only redeeming quality about it is the service - the staff members are friendly and will do their best to help you, though they always seem severely short staffed (not the employees fault of course, but there are always lines and just 1-2 employees in the whole store). The store itself is run down, dark (seriously are like half the lights turned off?! i have to use my phone flash light to see the true color of fabric and thread!), and generally poorly stocked. Shelves are consistently empty. Typically I don't waste my time here and I just go to Fabric Place another mile down the road. its too bad because Joann's is one of few craft stores around and its a shame this location is so bad. read more

I've been going to Joann Fabrics in Natick on and off for 30 years. I restore antique dolls and I make all the clothing including shoes and socks, hats, purses, jewelry etc. I am no stranger to fabric stores. I am used to them being neat and organized and having a decent selection of just about everything. You wanna be a slob at home when you're doing your thing, that's fine, but when store looks like a bunch of slobs run it, that is unacceptable. Wow! What happened Joann Fabrics in Natick? Your store is more than a hot mess - it looks like it was hit by a nuclear bomb. It looks like an episode of hoarders. Building 19 in Natick looked better than your store any day of the week when it was in operation and it looked better when it was closing too! AJ Wright in Worcester looked better when it closed in 2011 and that store was a constant hot mess. I walked into Joann Fabrics at 6pm on 12/19/24 and was horrified, with 2 Rs, as to what I saw. The entrance was unappealing to say the least. I think there was some sort of rolling rack about 15 feet away full of that darn fleece fabric everyone is so fond of at holiday time. I looked to my right and noticed the complete lack of selection of fabric. Anyway, I noticed just a ton of boxes all over the store. It was like they just moved into the location and the moving truck threw up its contents into the store and left it there. Then, whoever manages the store, decided it was a good idea to open the store to the public. Boxes piled 3 high on top of each other and 3 deep by your stockroom, boxes piled on top of each other by the cutting area, boxes piled in the back by what used to be the clearance section, empty bolts of fabric strewn all over the cutting area, semi full bolts just sorta strewn all over the store, empty metal carts stored in the cutting area for no apparent reason, completely empty aisles in certain sections of the store, half filled shelves with bolts of fabric just sorta put there because no one had the time to make it look decent, product just placed in random areas all over the floor where someone could trip over it, half empty bins and hooks full of messy notions, lack of fabric selection in the entire store, dishelved looking employees, no bags given out after purchase, long lines because customers had to wait a trillion years for someone to get there and figure out how to operate a register, employees not knowing how to give out a discount, low lighting, and messes everywhere. A woman who stood in line like I did for a trillion years was horrified like I was. I said thank God for the Fabric Place in Natick. At least they have a decent selection and they have fantastic silks. This store was a really great store in the 90s. It was a good store in 2014 when it was actually managed by a guy who cared about the store's appearance. Now its just an embarrassment. With all the boxes and stuff laying around, someone could call OSHA and shut your location down. I know you people filed bankruptcy in 2024, but that is no excuse to keep this location (and possibly other locations) looking like the local dump. The local dump in Wellesley is cleaner and more organized.... There are no standards any more and if there were, maybe people, places and things would be in a much better place than we are now. I've been shopping at the natick location for 20 years. Don't let the balding red headed man and the woman Ann try to make you feel less than both as a customer and as someone who crafts for a living. They speak down to customers consistently. I shop this location weekly for supplies and they haven't failed to make it a miserable experience every time. I feel HORRIBLE for the young people that work at that location. Anyone under 30 has never ever been anything other than professional and hard working. The managers at the location could learn from the polite 16 year olds that also work there and do amazing. I've even reached out to cooperate Joann's recently bc especially Anns behavior. You're not good at your job if you can't handle the stress of it. Even cooperate agreed. You sell fabric not medicine. You don't even sell milk. Nothing about that store is serious enough to make customers feel bad about themselves and their knowledge and craft. I can't speak badly enough about the old farts that work there. It's sad the store in totality is closing but the natick location needs to be euthanized. read more

The staff was friendly and helpful. There was a good selection of some items and not so good for many others. My major complaint was that the store was dark, dreary, and dirty. I was trying to find grosgrain ribbon. For example, I had a list of 5 possible colors and the only one in stock was my 5th choice. The aisle was narrow and very poorly lit. Joann is one of the few places that you can actually buy fabric and other sewing supplies. So I continue to put up with their BS. Last night I went in. I noticed the sign said all fleece was 60% off. So I picked out a cool pattern and go to the cutting desk. As I reach the cash registers, I noticed my cutting receipt only reflected 40% off. I asked the cashier and she treated me like I was a total a-hole for not reading the signs - apparently the fleece sale doesn't begin until the following day. It's not like the person at the cutting desk warned me. Joann pulls crap like this all the time. I've complained to management. I have been to two locations recently. Although continuing to operate, neither store was well staffed or neatly maintained. Lots of inventory, but in disarray. No high-end fabrics or woolens to select from. One store had very limited selection of patterns but at least one table and chair to use. The other had a wider selection of patterns but no place to look at them. read more

I would never order from joann.com again. I ordered November 22nd I have a yet to get my package and no money returned to me. It was an advent calendar that you should open December 1st to the 24th. I cannot get anyone on the phone. They have a chat customer service 8 hours before. Anyone even looked at my text message. It wasn't until I thought to claim with PayPal is when they finally got back to me and said the item has been shipped. But yet I still don't have it and nor do I want it. I just want my money back. Lured by the "returns with a smile are super easy" on the back of my receipt I tried to return some fabric. I waited on a long line got to the register and told, nope. Fabric has to be measured. No smile. Sigh. Ok back to the long line at the cutting table. They measure. Fabric is like an inch short. Nope. Won't take it have to Manager. She takes it. Nope I have go take it. Oh lord. FINE. Wait on register line. .Manager says nope. I say give me a break one of your staff didn't cut properly and I have to pay for it? Yes at this point I've lost my patience. Yes they have no patience with me. FINE. Ideal situation: "Hi can I return this" "Yes! We just need to measure it, unfortunately I can't do that here, head on back and someone will help you" "Ok" "Oh, fabric seems to be just a little short. Did you use any?" "No" "No problem, here's your $3.99 back" (yes all this over $3.99). Ordering fabric online? Easy. Want to browse - go to fabric place basement. For real? You argued over an inch of fabric. Eventually she took it back but it shouldn't be hard. What on earth would I do with an inch? Make a headband? Manager grumbled "I don't deserve this." Even though I am one of those "optimists" in the world (for most things), everything about this store is wrong. I really do enjoy shopping at arts and crafts stores. I'm a creative kind of guy and enjoy working on canvases and simple drawings. Plus, Michaels, AC Moore, and Jo-Ann always are wonderful in every department. They all have so much more than just an art store, which is why I love them all. Plus, with the ongoing 50% off and 60% off one regular priced item, I seriously can't go wrong! I actually make sure to visit any Michaels, AC Moore or Jo-Ann whenever I can, as I feel guilty spending full price on anything. Anyway, I was headed home on Route 9, and saw this store that I hadn't ever stopped into before. I saw the reviews on Yelp and thought to myself, "how bad can it be?". Well, yes, it's THAT bad. First sign of dissatisfaction for me was the parking lot. Potholes everywhere and danger cones present. New pavement is a necessity.... what happened did a tornado swoop by here? Next, the line. I walked into the store and just looked over to my left. The line was literally out of queue. There was at least 10 people in line and ONE cashier. I looked around anyway. I guess if there was any outstanding deals or products I would have waited, but telling by the other reviews and my already-poor impressions of the store I should have known there wouldn't have been any. The store is small and has multiple levels, sort of. They have various sets of steps and ramps from one level that is slightly different from another. Even though this is Jo-Ann's, they have basically ALL fabric. My local Jo Ann locations in West Roxbury and Walpole (brand new!) have so much more, and have a similar stock to AC Moore or Michaels, where as this place doesn't have barely anything the same. Staff are clueless (why would two people be stocking an aisle if there is a ten person checkout line!), and the store is in general just terrible. Even though it's farther, if you are looking for a decent Jo-Ann location, visit the store in Milford, Walpole or West Roxbury. You'll be happy you did. This place is just the worst. Too bad, I wanted to like it. Also, the website page is wrong for this store (no shocker). It says "244 Worcester Road", should be "244 Worcester Street". Awful customer service. I purchased a few items, and used a 15% off your purchase coupon. After I was handed the receipt I realized that an item rang up incorrectly. It was supposed to be $7.49, but rang up $8.99. There was a huge sign that clearly stated this. I waiting several minutes for the manager to appear to fix the problem. As she was working on the computer, she mentioned that she could lower the price, but could not take the 15% off of the correct price due to her override limits. After expressing my dissatisfaction with this, and asking if there were alternatives, the manager was condescending, and said multiple times she "couldn't help that I didn't understand" and that I could "argue all I wanted". She told me I would need to drive back the next day to talk to her manager if I wanted the correct price. We are literally talking about $1.27, and she was unwilling to give me the correct price. If I could give this place 0 stars I would!!! I called and asked if they had a specific fabric in stock. The person who answered messaged someone who confirmed they had it. I get to the store a few hours later and was told that they do not carry the fabric. I pick something else out and wait in a ridiculously long line to get my fabric cut. When it becomes my turn the lady is very rude and tells me there isn't enough fabric for the number of yards I needed. By this point there were about 5 customers behind me waiting to get their fabric cut. I didn't bother trying to find something else. There was also a poor old lady behind me asking if someone could help her carry something and the lady basically told her no because they were under staffed. Joann's is chain store with 850 locations across the US. It is more of a craft store that happens to sell a lot fleece, some cotton and very little fashion fabric (wool, poly-cotton, silk). However, sometimes you can score a great fabric at a low price. Cottons: Large selection of cotton to use for quilting. Joann's offers Kona cotton at $8.99 a yard for solid colors but you can get this on sale, up to 50% off. Be careful on your selection of prints, some are of a lower quality and are priced accordingly. Depending on which Joann you to go, they also sell fat squares (these also go on sale). Joann's in Burlington has the best selection. Fashion fabrics: Joann's has a very small selection but you can get a great deal if you purchase early or late in the season. I just picked up 2 yards of shearling at $9.99 a yard (50% off) in the clearance section in December. Also use your coupons, typically you can get up to 50% one cut of fabric. Patterns: Joann's offers all of the major pattern brands at 40% off. Coupons: To get the best price you need to download Joann's app to your phone and "check-in" each time you make a purchase. This will also give you access to Joann coupons. Most folks find all of the coupons/exclusions confusing and this can slow down the check-out line as the cashier scans all of the coupons on your phone to find the one that works. Staff: The Natick store is quite large and there never seems to be enough staff at the cutting table or at the check-out. Some of the employees just seem worn out. read more

Sad yet true - it mostly sucks. When it comes to fabric and sewing they have things other stores just don't - or at least at prices that can't be beat. Customer service is dreadful. I've been treated like a shoplifter (male cashier unfolded and refolded ALL my fabric at checkout, just to make sure I hadn't hidden anything in it!). Every now and again you'll happen upon someone nice, but you can rest assured they won't be there long. There is one particularly nice woman (of Asian decent I think) and she's been there a while. It was my 1st time in the store. When asked for help from an employee, she did not bother to show me the items and gave only general info which did not help. Cashier did not want to ring up coupon, and when she agreed to, she did not apply it to my order. Manager Karl seemed very bothered to come to the front to help me and was very rude and condescending. I left and did not buy anything. When I shared my experience with a friend, she said she also had a similar experience the day before and left without buying anything after spending an hour and a half at the store. I am so frustrated that I have to write another review in hopes that upper management will finally see that this store needs some serious help!! I have to be in this store often because of my business, and I do give them plenty of business, but the inefficiency of the staff, due to poor training and management is appalling. I waited in a very long line for over 20 minutes yesterday to purchase 2 items, while an employee tried to help a customer at the register. At no fault of hers, she was young and unexperienced, she kept having to run back to the manager at the cutting table to get help to figure it out. by this time over 10-15 people in line and nothing was getting resolved, I asked the manager to please come help at the register, his response, I can only have 2 registers open at a time, and my response was yes I know but could you please help with the one register that is having problems, while the person at the other register was not ringing up anyone because she was trying to help the young employee at the other register...SO BOTH REGISTERS WERE TIED UP FOR AT LEAST 20 min. I finally left without my purchase but I just hope someone in the company will finally get this store some help!!! Prices are so much higher then ac Moore or Michaels. To save money they have the cashier go off register when slow to clean so you always have to ring for help. And honestly the people that do run the register are rude and slow. They aren't trained because they never know how to put in a coupon. Update So I go back I last night of course no one at register to ask question so I found a lady in a aisle. I said may I ask u a question she replies what is it obviously annoyed that she might have to stop and help someone. I said In a rather annoyed voice I'm all set. As someone who shops at fabric stores and often Joannes almost weekly, my experience today capped what has been a series of unhappy experiences. This is the second time in one week I've been overcharged, this time by $13.00. Upon arriving home I see my fabric is so badly cut that by the time I straighten the grain I have about ten inches for each half yard. As the only coupon taking place that sells fabric locally, I find myself here often. There are a few employees that are decent humans, but jason I believe is his name, needs to take some lessons in customer service! No people skills whatsoever! If he is at the register when I walk in, he is usually huffing and puffing about something-- that is, if anyone is at the register-- I normally have to walk around And find an employee to ring me up.. And he always seems bothered when it's time to check out. He doesn't say hello, doesnt make eye contact, nothing.. Just grabs the stuff from you, mumbles as you hand him the coupon, and no goodbye either. He truly makes any trip there unenjoyable. My mom was asking him to ring her up using tax exempt forms for work products, and he spit out a bothered "well, are you in or files or not?" Bothered that he had to search the file book, and realizng weren't in the files, he said very angrily that we need to go get 2 forms, one from the government , one from the post office. We told him we had the forms with us, and he was again bothered that he had to file the paperwork. Like we were just a nuisance disrupting his day.... Having said that--- The fabric cutters seem much more pleasant. They do decent work, slowly, but that's what you get. Though, The store is always understaffed. 1 at the register , 1 cutting fabric, I hear voices in the back room by the bathroom, but rarely see anyone on the floor to ask for help. Very frustrating. 2015 Update: it s only fair that i update my review. I recently visited the store again and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The fabric selection was really nice, i was super impressed by the nursery fabrics - they had all of those hard to find swaddling muslins for example. I feel they upped their selection quite a bit. My heart sunk when my not-a-baby-anymore daughter then suddenly claimed she needed to use the potty, as I remembered how awful that bathroom was but we did not have a choice. There came the next surprise: they renovated the bathrooms! Re.painted walls, new toilet and basin, soap, handtowel, everything you need. They even put in a brand new changing table! This time the checkout staff was very nice too, nothing to complain there. Well done Jo-ann, i will probably be back, and i decided to change my review to 4 stars from 2. __________________________________ my old review from 2013?2014? Blah, this place is pretty bad. Yeah, i know, we are talking about Jo-Ann, which is not famous for their customer service (even the phone customer service for joann.com sucks), but today the guy at the checkout totally made me feel like he is doing me a giant favor to let me check out. This after that i had to wait 3 minutes at the empty register counter for someone to show up. And the toilet, oh my goodness, so filthy! That is one thing that they do not have a changing table in it - not great, but whatever, i can change my baby on the back seat of my car if i have to, but that toilet and the whole bathroom was just gross! Like they have never cleaned there before! Overall I think this jo-ann has a bigger selection of fabrics and other stuff than the one in Roxbury. Their button selection is smaller, but the crafts and yarn selection is much better. So I may come back if I need to. If it is possible to give Zero stars then that's what I will do. Normally I like to write positive reviews and skip some of the bad ones. However after all the bad experiences, and there have been many, I just want to warn people to stay away from this particular Joann Fabrics! If you need customer service well forget it. There is no one to help you and if you find someone they will be rude!. Forget about smiling and saying hello to the fabric cutter! She will just grunt back and act like you should tip! Don't bother ever calling this store to find out if they have a product. Yesterday they claimed they had thousands and thousands of different kinds of yarn and could never look. They have a very small yarn department and it took me under 60 seconds to walk in and see if they had the yarn. They didn't and I am glad because I don't want to give them any business!! But I drove 20 minutes each way when they could of given me an answer in under 60 seconds. And they were not busy!!! Beware when they have great coupons on regular price fabrics! They mark the overpriced fabric down 10% and you can't use the coupon. The same fabrics are $3-4 less per yard in the fabric stores that have great customer service!!! Have not been to Joann fabrics in awhile, closed the one closest to me so I went to Natick. What a mistake. Never again. Purchased 10 yards of fabric, $120 worth. Should have just left the facility without purchase, I have regretted my purchase since. Essentially asked for 5 yards of fabric cut in half. Was told no, store policy. Then mgr. came over and stated the same thing. This fabric was being delivered to 2 different locations, hence reason for my request. You know you are not having a great customer experience when the answer to your request is " if I do it for you, I have to do it for everyone". I am telling JoAnn mgmt team, train your managers to handle customer issues and requests otherwise you'll lose customers. This is not cutting up fabric into 1/8 yard strips! Explanation from the gal working the cutting table. Handle that situation as need be. I believe the policy is a "blanket policy" that needs a manager with good training to empower when you can do something for the customer and when it simply doesn't work for the store. This simple gesture, which costs nothing to JoAnn, keeps customer loyalty. By the by, I did request the mgr to stop explaining to me why you cannot cut a fabric into 2 pieces again, I am not a child, I just don't agree with your store policy. Lastly, the gal working the cutting table saw her mgr's approach and once she left decided to drop the politeness with me. I should have left right then and there. I pay for what I buy, which means I get to be treated as a customer, whether I agree with your store policies or not. read more
