I was in search of a picture frame... and the big box stores were not going to cut it for what I was looking for. Sadly the framing store that was in town is no longer (I think it is an insurance outlet now) so that left me with craft stores such as Joann's. Not a problem, I have been in here a number of times and I know that they have a fair inventory of various sized frames. Due to the pandemic, their custom framing counter was closed, so I had to go with one of the standard sized frames that they have on the shelves. I was able to find one that fit my needs, so that is what I got. So that ends my experience this time around. However, I have been to Joann's plenty of times in the past, and their selection is pretty solid. If you need textiles for sewing, knitting, etc. they are going to have some decent selections. I know that they also hold classes for various activities, though with the pandemic those classes have been curtailed for the time being. read more

I never thought I'd write a 4-star review for JOANN's. I remember back when Gainesville had two Joann's stores. They were so gross and understaffed and overpriced. This new store is shiny and bright and the folks who work there are great. But to be honest, I haven't asked them for a whole lot of help. Like I said, when I need professional art supplies I go to SOMA or Dick Blick's because I know they will understand when I ask for some weird thing like a mahl stick. I recently popped into the Joann's in Ocala and was shocked at how dingy and poorly lit the place was. It made me appreciate our Joann's so much. Our Joann's is bright, laid out well, you won't be wandering around trying to figure out where things are because it's clear. All your fabrics and fabric stuff is on the one side and all your other art stuff is on the other. Yarn and needle crafts and decor straight up the middle. I LOVE the yarn section. That's mostly why I go to Joann's these days. There is a pretty large selection of yarn and weights, colors and textures, and something is always on sale and you will always have a coupon. I like that there is a table in the yarn section. When I work on a project I pull out several skeins of yarn and lay them out on the table to see my color palette. And because the shelving isn't so tall you get all the light to better see your colors. (Michael's yarn is shoved into two measly aisles and the lighting is crap, the selection is pitiful.) Checkout can be brutal, which is why the four stars, as there is usually only one person at the register but they will call for back up when they need it. But sometimes you just gotta stand in line and wait. Also, I find the customers in Joann's to be a little more friendly and neighborly. I don't know what's happening between Michael's and Joann's but the folks at Michael's always seem to be in their own worlds, kids are running around and parents seem grumpier. At Joann's people seem a little more chill. I've had some fun conversations with people I've never met. One time I was in line for check out and this mom comes up behind me. She has her two kids in the buggy. The kids are giggling and saying "ooh la la" and then giggling some more and then saying OOH LA LA and dissolving into more giggles. I thought it was hilarious so I peaked at them with a grin. Mom saw me and told them to keep it down. That lasted about 2 seconds. I finally said, "I trying really hard not to laugh as much as your kids because your kids are hilarious and totally making my day." She chuckled and told me she had no idea where they even heard ooo la la and why they started saying it. She shushed them again, which just made them laugh even harder and belt out another ooo la la which in turn made me start snorting because I was trying to be supportive of their mom. But it was so dang funny! read more

There's always been super Walmart but now there's Jumbo Jo-Ann's!! This is the Jo-Ann's to beat out all other Jo-Ann's as you'll find all kinds of items that you never knew were available. It's easy to get lost in this special store so if you see something you like grab it then because you may not remember where it was later. The jewelry department is humongous with so many items you wouldn't see at a regular Jo-Ann's. If you can dream it you can make it! The same goes for the fabric department. If you're a sewer this is the place to be. Some of the trademarked fabrics are DC, Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and college & pro sports teams. My fave department is the classroom in the back. Employee Sue is so helpful and heads up the quilting class. There's also photography, cooking, cake decorating, weaving and so many other classes. When there's no classes the room can be used for meetings or parties for free. read more

Great location but parking can be bothersome if you park at the store front. There is some parking on the side and I find that best vs trying to back out by the front. Lots of passing through traffic. Store is clean and organized. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. Lots of patterns for making all kinds of things. They have classes they offer and hope to take a class one day. Also have where you can receive texts with coupons. You'll just click the link and show the cashier the barcode to scan. read more

I live in Starke, over 45 minutes away and decided to go to Joann's to get fabric because they had a BOGO for cut fabrics (excluding Fat Quarters and licensed fabric). I took my time picking out coordinating fabrics. I went to the check out and when the young lady gave me the price I new there was an error somewhere. Let me say that both young ladies that assisted me were very polite and helpful getting to the bottom of it. I had 18 items and the BOGO rang up for only 12. We identified the other six items as four fabric shape bundles (20 squares 10 x 10) and 2 premium fabric bundles. I said, " these are clearly cut fabrics and not fat quarters." The lady agreed but the was nothing she could do because there could be other exclusions that was not on the ad. (are you kidding?) I told her, "there is a sign on the rack where these are located that clearly says BOGO" She said she new but couldn't do anything about it. Ugh, so I removed those six items and she gave me the new total. I said that still seems off, she said no all 12 items are accounted for. I said ok. When I got home I look at the receipt and sure enough another one of the items was not BOGO at all. These were identical to the other ones that rang up correctly. I would take them back but I'm going to chalk this up to lessoned learned. I have always felt that Joann's is sneaky with their coupons and sales and now I am positive. I will not shop here any more. The only reason for the two stars is that the ladies helping me were polite and as helpful as they could be. read more

I LOVE this place. (Maybe a little too much). I was so shocked reading other reviews about unfriendly staff!! Everyone is SO nice and helpful there, in my experience. They have everything I could possibly need for all my crafting, sewing, embroidery, woodworking needs. One time, I had a hard time finding the right paper cutter, so I returned the one I bought back. They helped me find a new one in the store. Took it out of the package, while I was in the store and allowed me to test it before I bought it! They said they weren't going to let me leave without getting the right paper cutter this time! Plus, they let me use an coupon that was good for paper crafting supplies that had expired the day I previously bought the other paper cutter I returned! Thanks, guys! They have a good selection of fabrics. Because it's close to the university, patterns are more teen or tween. For example, this one has a big selection of comic book and video game character fabrics, and a huge selection of polar fleece for no sew blankets, but it has a noticeably small selection of nursery fabrics. Store is clean, workers are friendly and helpful. The fabric cutting counter is well run. It is always busy on Saturday, but you take a number and wait and it's fast to check out. Typically I have a great experience at this Joann's when it comes to making purchases, associate help with finding items, & accepting coupons/sales. This time, the entire aisle near florals said BUY ONE GET FOUR FREE: Blooming Autumn Florals. Given that the scented blooming autumn potpourris directly underneath every sign to which were posted, my husband and I placed 5 in our cart. When we reached the check-out, Denice was there to ring everything up. After ringing everything up, I mentioned that the sign said BUY ONE GET FOUR FREE all over the aisle and everywhere these items were located. She then stated "well they're originally $14.99 and you're getting them for $4.49" to which I replied "but that is not buy 1 get 4 free." She proceeded to give me attitude and say "well I can just take them off". I was not asking her to remove them, I was asking her to simply verify the sale. She also stated that it could have been an old sale, which I have worked in retail as well and if so, we would honor the deal due to us not removing a misleading sign. After a minute or so of back and forth, I told her I would go check rather quickly just to make sure I didn't read incorrectly. When I came back with it, she rudely "slow-read" the sign like I was illiterate and continued with her "I can just take them off". At this point, my husband and I were extremely irritated and just wanted to get things done. She then proceeded to say "so let me take these two off and keep these three... this is a disaster, let me just cancel the transaction and start over". I felt so disrespected by her disregard for good customer service and her blatant attitude towards removing two items from our transaction. Perhaps I will be bringing my business to another craft store with employees that I'm not inconveniencing by verifying sales/removing an item at check-out as well as a place that will honor what sales they post on their shelves. On the way home, my husband told me that he heard another employee taking care of someone else, where the employee honored what was on a sale sign for a customer. This suggests that Denice just did not feel like discounting, etc. due to the inconvenience it would take. As someone who has worked in the service industry, I am very displeased with this experience. I guess I'll be shopping at Michaels or Hobby Lobby where they appreciate my business. read more

I buy almost all my fabric at Joann's. Normally I don't have too much trouble beyond the store being busy. But my last purchase of two 1/4 yard cuts went wrong. They are both crooked by two inches. I am very upset. I go to joann's for the customer service and accuracy. The fabric is more expensive than Walmart, so if I am going to have disappointing cuts either way I am going to Walmart to save money. read more

I entered this location today to pick up a few yards of fabric. The fabric counter was packed with customers. There was no enforcement of people standing 6 feet apart. At the fabric counter, there was a woman customer not wearing a mask and nothing was being done about it. The woman was talking and getting close to many people in the line as well as the employee helping her. The woman intentionally stepped out of the way of the face guard meant to protect employees to make sure she spoke directly into the employees face. The woman used her whole hand to wipe the crust and saliva from her mouth and then touched then counter. She also put her hands down the back of her pants and touched the counter again. I asked the manager of the store if masks were mandated. The manager clearly did not want to speak with me and ignored me from behind the counter for a couple of minutes before deciding she would speak with me. The store manager said that masks are not mandatory in the store and that they cannot make anyone wear them in the store or do anything about it. I asked if they could at least wipe down the are that the woman contaminated. I have no idea if they ever did that because I got out of there as quickly as possible. This location does not care about patron safety and would rather pander to the disrespectful and unsanitary minority of customers. I will not be returning to any JoAnn Fabrics location and would hope that this display of negligence would persuade others to think twice before supporting this business. read more

If 0 stars were an option, that's what I would give. I have been to this store on 2 separate occasions, and both times I was treated terribly by the staff. On one occasion I asked an employee for help locating a spray paint item (crackle spray paint- something they didn't even end up having! Not to mention how difficult it is to find anything in the unorganized mess they call a store!) and the employee, who was clearly in her work apron walking around on the floor, told me that she was "off the clock" and kept walking without even attempting to assist me, or even find another person that could... Rude. The second time, I was looking through the fabrics and was immediately YELLED at by an employee for taking a picture of the barcode on the spool, just to help me remember which fabrics I liked. The barcode, mind you. Not even the fabric or print itself! I was not aware this was not allowed, I had no idea. She could have politely explained it to me, and asked that I not take pictures. Instead I was screamed at like a child! I was blatantly ignored by other random employees when asking for help during those same visits. One woman walked away from my questions, without even making eye contact, saying to another person within earshot of me "this little girl needs something..." I am 25 years old. I have not been impressed with any of the people working at this location, and I had been a customer at other locations for a long time. I have instead been going to Hobby Lobby, ever since my last experience here. The staff are much more proactive and helpful, not to mention their store is easier to navigate, and their prices are better. My advice, take the trip to another store instead. read more

This store has lots of great items. One thing it doesn't have is good customer service. I have walked around 3 different times and not ONCE has anyone approached me and asked if I need help. I have found 2 great cashiers but the ladies that cut the fabric, unhelpful and condescending. I am Hispanic and notice that with others they smile and talk and even offer ideas. Racist? If you are looking for attentiveness and friendly staff, this is not the place to shop. If that isn't important to you, then this is a great place to go. read more

I have never been more satisfied with a visit to Joann Fabric stores!! I brought in my wedding dress (in a garment bag) trying to match bridal lace. Ingrid and Amara were especially helpful in assisting me. The lace I wanted was a little bit dirty, so they gave me a discount. It was overall just a shopping delight. Even though they didn't have a tiara base or white pearl beads that I needed, the staff was SO helpful and pleasant that I left completely satisfied. read more

A friend and I went into Joann's to look for some crackle spray paint. Our first discomfort when we arrived, is when we saw one of the women cutting fabric speaking very loudly and condescending to an older woman who was obviously asking for help. I believe her phrase was something like "so what exactly IS it that you WANT?" Very rude and unhelpful. Within a matter of minutes, we came across the paint isle, and were unable to find the crackle paint we were searching for (which it turns out they don't even carry.) when we saw a woman in her Joann's apron walking past with another employee. We stopped her to ask for help, and we were treated like a complete inconvenience because she was off the clock and "technically not supposed to be helping anyone." When she yelled back at her friend to help us instead, because she was on the clock, the friend ignored the situation and kept walking. THEN, we came across another type of spray paint we wanted to look at inside the glass case, we went back to the fabric counter to ask for help, and without even being looked at or acknowledged in any way, we were told by the woman facing away from us, obviously too busy chatting with coworkers, that "the case is open, if that's what we want." Needless to say, we just dropped everything we were wanting to buy, and left empty handed, in fear that our purchases may pose an annoyance to the cashier. All in all, every employee we came in contact with in matter of 10 minutes, was blatantly rude and crabby. I will not be returning to Joann's Fabrics, PARTICULARLY this location, and will likely be using other stores for future fabric and craft purchases. I have only been there a few times and each time I did not walk out empty handed...
