I wanted to leave this as a comment for customer service at Michael's-at-large, but they don't seem to have a place on their site to do that. So here it is. So, the last time I ordered stuff from this Michael's, they didnt put everything I got with my order, and also included stuff I didn't order (wtf?). I decide to go in-person. Michael's has decided to go the way of stores like Winn-Dixie and Wal-Mart. They'v fired most of the employees. The employees that do work there are underqualified and cannot answer questions adequately, and simply- there are not enough employees working at the store period. I think there was one guy there manning the four front registers. No one actually seen working today in any other department. The four aforementioned registers are now touch screen computers- which are not-at-all intuitive. They begin by asking you numerous annoying questions about giving up your personal information so the company can pester and track you. Then, you notice in horror there is a camera now zeroed in on your face the entire time you are checking out, which is dystopian and makes you feel claustrophobic. It made me feel like the store thinks of me as a criminal. Finally, it was really tough to figure out where to pay- like three different places in the pay area looked like they could have been where you put your card. The whole thing was extremely tedious, depressing and invasive.. as well as deeply dehumanizing. Also whatever happened to customer service- oh wait, it was only ever all about getting our money. And then no bag for all my stuff after, legit watched me have to pick stuff up by my WHOLE ARMS to carry it out? Like are u kidding me? "Great customer service". Michaels is one of those stores at I end up visiting every couple weeks. I love the actual store and the products that they carry so no complaints there. The thing that is so frustrating is that you can't just make a quick stop and run in. Everything single time I have gone in I am standing in line for at least 10 minutes. I'm spending more time in line than walking around the store. There are so many registers but usually only one cashier is open. It makes no sense to me. Every other Michaels I have gone to they ask for back up when they see how long the line is. You know the line is bad when customers start putting their stuff down in line because they are sick of holding things for 10 minutes straight. Michaels is a HUGE company! Michael's is a problem. When Joann's fails me, I go to Michael's. It used to be the other way around. Joann's wasn't my first choice but since Gainesville opened its remodeled and enlarged Joann's, I've pretty much broken up with Michael's. Michael's used to have the neat coupons but now Joann's is throwing discount after discount at me. I go up to the cashier and I have three 20% off coupons for the entire purchase, including sale items sometimes. Michael's it's one coupon for one item. But it's not just about price, it's also about customer service and the associates' knowledge of the products. If I need something specific that I'm unsure about, I will wait until I can visit a town with. a Blick's Art Supply shop. If I'm desperate I go to SOMA. That's the problem with Michael's. The folks who work at Michael's don't necessarily know what you need. At worst, some of the associates barely know where the easiest stock is located much less something like Golden's GAC 900. I used to go to Michael's a lot but stopped because the associates were just so rude. I asked about an item and the associate said she didn't have it. I said I had looked online and the store supposedly had that product in stock. She told me that they didn't carry the product even after that. I asked if she could look it up on inventory and she said that they didn't have a way to check what was in stock in the store. Um how is that even possible? And that was basically the beginning of my break up with Michael's. I go in periodically but it's no longer my go-to store. I wish we could get a Blick's. I need to go back to SOMA. read more

Michaels is pretty much my second home. I spend lots of time in Michaels because it is such a fun place to go and explore and the sales they have here are amazing. I have been in most recently to get supplies to make a picture frame, as well as shop for some bottles I am using as a flower display. When I went in I saw so many other things that my project was perfect for this place. One thing they do as well is provide you with a lot of coupons if you give them your email address. I was able to get things at a pretty low price. Usually they have plenty of staff working who are able to help you out. I have never waited more than 5 minutes to check out and they reps are friendly and get you through the line pretty quick. I think Michaels is the best store for your crafting materials. read more

They have a seemingly good selection of general crafts supplies, especially things very targeted toward specific applications like scrap-booking, but their art supply section is less-impressive. However, my main complaint with Michael's revolves around one product, so take that with a grain of salt: you may, if looking for something else here, have a better experience. They do have good coupons sometimes but these are not always good on all types of products. I use the Copic brand of drawing markers and was looking for certain ones at Michael's, and they do in fact carry these markers. However, I asked the sales associate their price on the markers and she said they were a jaw-dropping $8.99. The list price on them is only $7 and many online retailers sell them for around $5.50. Central Florida Office Plus has them in town for $6. So why three whole dollars more, Michael's? I mean, really? Seriously? If they do this type of mark-up on this product, I do not know if they may on other products, but I'm not going to bother to investigate it much. I've never seen a mark-up above MSRP in any case. Central Florida Office Supply is a local store that has been in business for years and I'd much rather support them than a faceless national chain, so the only selling point of a chain would be a serious price break. Michaels! Your one stop craft supply store. I have been going to Michaels since I was in elementary school (not this store, but the ones down south). I love being there, it's like a woman's arts and crafts dream! This Michaels is in Butler Plaza Central, near Ross and Office Max. It usually has bins outside full of sale items, so you can easily locate it by sidewalk traffic. The inside is fairly large, about the size of the Office Depot. It has everything. Everything! Today I went to buy flat ended rhinestones to decorate my graduation cap. I found a pack of 300+ for only $4.99. Plus, every Sunday there is a 40% of coupon on any regular priced item, so I got it for $2.99! I also have bought canvases, brushes, paints, stickers, stamps, cardstock, scrapbook supplies, thread and jewelry pieces here. I don't think I have ever gone to Michaels and not walked out with a bag of fun stuff! Plus, they have bins in the middle of the aisles packed with dollar items. Today, I got a full set of mini alphabet stamps for $1. Truly can't beat it. Customer service is something I don't use too often, but the cashiers' attitudes will range from decent to apathetic. Overall, come here if you like crafts. It's a wonderland. read more

Disinterested staff and uninspired management seem to regard customers as potential threats to their smooth operations. They only do things in their set ways. Any requests are immediately denied even before you have finished asking them. All possible alternatives as dismissed with the same terseness. One gets the clear impression that they would very much prefer a store without customers. BTW their website is no gem either. read more

Yaaay! They have cheap and quality sketch books! I have been looking for a good quality (and not $20) small sketch book. Michaels is always my go to, and this one was very clean and the individual at the register was super super super friendly. She was the only one working the register and she made sure to say hello and make small talk while efficiently getting you out the door. Thumbs up! read more

I've been to Michaels at butler plaza twice now, and although I love what they stock this is the worst michaels to shop in. They are severely understaffed. The cleaning and stocking are done half heartedly at best. There was a big ladder blocking the shelf I needed to see. There is no one around to answer questions. The cashiers know very little about the products. There are only 2 cashiers, although there's 6 registers. The line is always 10 or 15 people long. I kept hoping that some one in line would be polite enough to let a gray haired lady with a cane and only 3 items go ahead but no one offered. I think I'll be trying joannes from now on. read more

Surprisingly, for as long as Michael's has been around, I actually went into the store for the first time recently...and had fun! There are so many cool items that you just don't see in other major retail stores. If you're looking for a creative place to shop, i'd recommend it here. Thank you for hosting a kids event. My kids enjoyed adding items to their slime. Maybe do a registered event like Home Depot. I work retail for a living and believe their exchange policy is unfair and a way to scam money from their customers. I had purchased two defective Wilton food colorings. They were supposed to be "Golden Yellow" but turned my frosting bright orange, so I took them back to the store to exchange them for new ones. I file my receipts at the end of the week and forgot to bring it with me to the store. The girl at checkout told me I didn't need a receipt since I was exchanging them for the same item. During check out, the girl stated the system wouldn't let her input an exchange so she had to do a return, give me the return amount on a gift card and then use the gift card to purchase the replacement colors. This sounded fine to me. She processed the return and told me the system put $1.83 for each bottle on a card. The sticker price on the items, the price I paid when I bought them, is $2.29. I asked why I was only getting $1.83 for each bottle as opposed to the actual price of $2.29 and the girl informed me that when you do a return without a receipt, the system will only give back the lowest sale price the item has been listed at during the previous few weeks. I could understand having that policy for no-receipt returns but not for exchanges. So, even though I was exchanging one item for the EXACT SAME THING, I had to pay a difference for the replacement bottles. At this point, I couldn't even ask for the food colorings back as she had already processed them as returns and put the value towards my new purchase. It is ridiculous to tell customers they can exchange their items without a receipt, then process their exchange as a RETURN so you can charge them for the supposed difference in price between two identical items. I could have asked to speak to management but it was 8:30PM, there was, as always, a massive line of people waiting to check out and the 98 cents just wasn't worth the effort. There was also only one girl working check out and I had no intention to be a pain in her ass at the end of her shift. Just be cautious, especially if you are purchasing high ticket items. Bring your receipt with you, even if you are doing an exchange, even if they tell you you don't need it, or else you could be cheated out of a lot of money. read more

It was a nice touch when I was checking out and as soon as I walked to the cashier she started giggling and gossiping with the person on her ear piece.......especially because I thought she was speaking to me and I commented. The crafts selection might be alright, but the arts selection leaves a lot to be desired. My major gripe is with the individual Prisma colored pencils that they sell. The selection is already extremely small but they seemingly refuse to restock them. When I asked the cashier if she knew when they would be restocked she told me that they had just recently sold a bunch of them as back-to-school items. This was a flat out lie. They hadn't been restocked a month prior to that and who buys their kids Prisma Colored Pencils at $2 dollars a pencil to go back to school? When I went in again 2 weeks later and they still had not been restocked. Another woman told me that they don't know when they get some stuff in it just comes in. Huh? You mean there is no one to call to say that a customer is asking about an item and you need more? I used to work in retail. That seems either a crazy way to run a business or another flat out lie. She told me I could get them online. Yes, but not from Michaels where I will pay twice as much as I would somewhere else. I go through these pencils like crazy and would like to be able to run in somewhere and buy some. Since the Central Office Florida Plus closed its doors, I am forced to buy everything I need online which I am not fond of. Michaels could have a good opportunity to expand their selection and fill a niche, but they seemingly don't have very good business practice. If Jo-Ann's sold individual Prismas I'd gladly shop there instead. read more
