Look no further than Joe Rouer's or just "Joe's Bar" in Duvall, Wisconsin. It's on your way to Door County and a visit to this local institution is simple and easy from any of the routes North. On Highway 57, pick up County Road "X" and you will be traveling East not more than a mile or so to Duvall. You will be greeted promptly with a smile as you enter and if you're lucky, the charming "Melanie" or "Heather" will serve you in two shakes of a lambs tail! I recommend the Cheeseburger, Dill Pickles, and White Cheddar Cheese curds although all of their offerings are delicious creations developed over time and of particular note is their Chili. It's tasty and amazing! On draft is a curated variety of beer and there's nothing like a cold Blue Moon draft with a generous slice of fresh orange. Top this off with any of their desert creations and you will be full - but not too full! Lastly, depending on where you're from you will be pleasantly surprised that they don't gouge you when it's time to settle up. I have always found it reasonable and inexpensive for a good quality lunch or dinner. I love long running small town restaurants and bars like that put the heart in heartland of America. The type of place that when you walk in looks the same it may have looked twenty or thirty years ago (or much longer) but despite the passage of time, the quality of the food, but more importantly the people, remain. This quaint little bar is apparently known for its burger's reputation - and after one bite I can confirm it is well deserved. I ordered the famous double cheeseburger and it was so spectacular-the entire burger was glistening with a generous amount of butter and it had the perfect hit of salt in every bite. It was a picturesque sight when the plate arrived and the taste easily matched. Each bite damn near melted in my mouth as I ate it, the flavors melding together magically. When I'm visiting Green Bay, Wisconsin to visit my in-laws, this place is a MUST when you want a good ol' burger. So we make it a point to drive out to Joe Rouers. To get to Joe Rouer's, you'll take a little scenic drive through the country with beautiful trees, flowers and farm houses. After about 25-30 minutes. You'll come up to County road X and drive for a couple minutes down the road through more farm houses not thinking for a moment that some where in the middle of all this farm land is this hidden gem. You pull up and see a small building packed with cars on a Thursday night filled with locals and who knows...a traveler or two who's heard of or seen this hidden gem on tv. When you walk in, don't expect no fancy schmancy foo foo'd up kinda place. You have a couple a tables, the bar and what looks like an added room with a few more tables and little dark inside. The place is PACKED! The extra room PACKED! We actually found one table. You sit yourself. Then a waitress will come by get get your drinks. I hear the root beer is De-lish! I took a sip off of my BFs drink. Yummy for someone who doesn't care for root beer. On the menu you can choose cheese burger, Hamburger with or without the onions. I suggest you get the onions. Let's just say, I am not an "onion" person. I'm not a fan of raw onions or sautéed onions or whatever you do to them. BUT THESE ONIONS, they are steamed, Sautéed and cooked to perfection Hallelujah! Then the patty that is juicy and tasty. I heard that they steam their patties to get it alllll juicy. Then you get lettuce and tomatoes. Btw, be ready to get a lil' grease on your hands bc you don't get fancy plates or utensils. Our food got served on a cafeteria tray and fries in the middle;) how fun! Haha You can also order cheese curds or Fries. The curds are so friggin good and the fries are just simple delish fries. First off, let me say this: Joe Rouer's is a BAR. Check your expectations about décor at the door. You come to Joe Rouer's for the food & cheap beer. My family has been visiting Joe Rouer's on our way from Green Bay to Door County at least once a year for as long as I can remember. It's something I looked forward to as a kid and even more so now that I've moved away. The burgers are greasy, so know that. These are traditional Wisconsin butter burgers, so the grease is kinda healthy, right? ;) I always like to get a cheeseburger with a side of cheese curds & ranch, along with a Spotted Cow or a Bloody Mary to drink. I'm drooling now just thinking about all the Wisconsin-y goodness. The burgers are SO GOOD. If you have heartburn, take a Prilosec before you come. You always want to end your meal here with the poppyseed lemon tarte. My family usually brings a few slices home for later, too. The tarte is incredible without being overbearing. It's light-tasting but still dense enough to fill you up. Great flavor without tasting too sugary. It's the perfect way to end a meal at Joe Rouer's. I'm not sure if the folks who gave this joint 1 to 2 stars just had a bad experience or different expectations of what this would be. All I can tell you is that I've been visiting Joe Rouer's for 28 years and I've never left with anything but good vibes. I will say, the service has never been anything to write home about, but the food is so amazing that I didn't really care. You can never go wrong with a greasy burger. I've known about Joe Rouer's for years, but I don't head out in this direction very often. Thanks Andy W for the inspiration as I had plans to go to the Luxemburg Speedway, and decided to make a pit stop before the races. It's a hot spot for the locals, and was terrified of getting stared down as I was an outsider...not the case at all. It is a bar, but you can definitely bring the whole family here. You can sit around the bar or in the dining area. Wherever you want to go, you seat yourself. The service was fast! Shortly after sitting down, our server took our drinks. Once we got the drinks we ordered our food, and that came out 5-10 minutes later. The menu is fairly small and simple. That helps with the quick service. Of course I had to order a burger...I got the cheeseburger, along with cheese curds and a cup of chili. I really enjoyed the chili with cheese, onions, sour cream, and of course noodles! The cheese curds were okay...I've had better. When they bring out the food, they put all the orders one one plate and then give you a butt load of napkins to use as plates and of course to clean up after the greasy mess. Speaking of greasy, be ready as soon as you pick up that burger, grease pours out of the burger. The burgers are a little thin, a lot of these bars (Drift Inn, Krolls, Al's Hamburgers) are all like that. If you're really hungry I would recommend the double burger. read more

After reading the rave reviews, we were excited about checking this joint out. We were sorely disappointed. The server was absolutely terrible. She committed a major no-no for any waitperson by telling us immediately that she was new - as if that would excuse her bad service. She knew nothing - about anything. Not the beer and not the food. It's one of the smallest menus I've ever seen so it should have been pretty darn easy to learn. This place has been a landmark for my family and friends for over 15 years. Many generations of us continue to meet here every year on our trips up to Door County, Packer games, and any other excuse we can think of really! They have ample seating in the bar area but it can get busy at times. They have a back room with a pool table and a few arcade games and more tables (that can be moved around for larger groups), and a decent sized patio as well. The food is very good - as other reviewers have mentioned, the burgers are their staple item. Everything on their menu is worth trying - I recommend trying the chili and cheese curds. They have a few desserts (the pie... oh, the pie) too! Also, check out their shot list! They also have pitcher specials and a decent selection of alcohol at great prices. The service is great - they try hard to please their customers and make it feel like home. They have always been accommodating to our large groups and our families. I'm really surprised I am the first to review Joe's. In my opinion they knock out the greatest cheeseburgers. I have searched high and low and nothing compares in my mind. I have been going here for years and it's always packed. They make their burgers from scratch. They are hand formed and are pan fried with a lid on top. I think that's what separates them from a lot of places. Grilled and dry burgers don't do it for me. I also like how they aren't too thick. Slop some fried and fresh onions on there and my lord you're set. Get some fried curds and a Baumeister root beer and the world makes sense again. read more

I was appalled to learn that Joe Rouer's charges for soda refills, even if the customer buys food! $1.50 for a pint glass (filled mostly with ice!) and that does NOT include free refills! That is shocking to me, considering how inexpensive fountain soda is to a bar/restaurant. I have NEVER been to another bar/restaurant that CHARGES for soda refills, even if the customer is not eating! This is foolish for a place that has such good food. You WILL alienate people. Went here about a month ago with a friend who lives in nearby Dykesville. The cheeseburgers are good - delivered literally dripping on a napkin to your table. My husband and I had been traveling since 5:30 a.m. from Albuquerque to a cottage along Green Bay for the LSU-Wisconsin game.
