Was totally surprised at seeing a Joes Pho at the plaza. I'm unsure how long it's been here but decided to go in on a Sunday afternoon. We walked in and we're seated immediately. The place wasn't too packed but as the afternoon went by, more patrons came in to enjoy their late lunch. We were given some shrimp chips and lemon water to enjoy while we looked through the menu. Ordering was easy as the waitress was making sure she checked on every table. What we ordered: 2 meatball and filet mignon steak soups - portions are huge! They didn't skimp on the meat either. 10/10 Shrimp rolls- tightly wrapped and perfect amount of greens sealed with chunky shrimp. 9/10 because I like a crunchy peanut sauce with peanut bits. Salted plum soda- perfectly salted with chunks of plum at the bottom that gave it a sweet kick! 10/10. What's great about Joes is that they have ready to use utensils at the tables that are covered in plastic wrap and/or paper with stickers to assure that if a seal is broken, that is a hint to the customer that the utensil is dirty. All the sauces and spices were well stocked at each table as well. I liked this idea because then you avoid wasting time to ask for more utensils or extra sauce and get straight to eating. This restaurant is huge and has a lot of seats were available, so we didn't have to wait before getting seated. Inflation has really made a big impact but almost $20 for average pho is a bit steep in my opinion. Broth was flavorful but I thought the noodles were on the harder side. We got the oxtail pho and #1 original pho with bone marrow on the side. We decided to try after seeing the last review mentioning the marrow and we're so glad we did! I've been on the search for bone marrow pho (with the full marrow) and I'm so glad I finally found one! Everything tasted amazing, definitely satisfied my pho craving. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurant is very large and surprisingly full for a Wednesday night! The large sizes were actually LARGEEEEE and full of meat! Dropped by on a late weekday night before closing and had a pretty pleasant experience. Parking was easy but I can see why it can become an issue during the weekend since the whole plaza is full of restaurants or if you come during lunch/dinner rush hours. We got seated right away and the staff was attentive to our needs. We even got a refill on our chips within 5 minutes of sitting. I've been to a good amount of Vietnamese restaurants in this city and the cities nearby and I can say this is probably one of the best pho places in the area. I couldn't understand why they opened another location so close together, but I'm not in the business, so what do I know. This plaza has plenty of parking and a lot of different things nearby such as a bakery and a grocery store. If you've been to Joe's Pho original, this place looks just like it on the inside, with plenty of seats and an open floor plan. There's a QR code on the table or someone can bring you a menu for a more traditional feel. Their menu is the same as their sister location, offering vast options but mastering none, and still offering complimentary chips for dine in or take out orders. Their combination pho got the job done in satisfying the cravings and warming the soul on a cold night, while the price tag was a bit on the higher end. This location is a tad bit closer to home so I can see myself coming here more often, and then getting some grocery shopping in before heading home. There's really no different from the other one. If you're in the San Leandro area and craving pho, this is one of the better places to go to with a more modern look to the restaurant. read more

Considering that their other restaurant has been open for a couple of years, I would have thought that they would bring their best practices to their new restaurant. Instead, they act as if this was their first restaurant with all the requisite learning curve. This was my first visit to a Joe's. We entered and were greeted right away and directed to a table. Water and Shrimp Chips were presented. An order taker came over a couple of times and we asked for more time. When we were finally ready, we ordered: Deep Fried Chicken Wings - 3 - Five large wings. Decent flavor but she found that the wings overall were "firm". Bun Duc Biet - 3 - Large portion. The Egg Rolls were on the small side and lacked flavor. Fish sauce was weak. Special Combination Beef Pho with Ox Tail - 3 - Broth was good. Ox Tail was probably the best I've ever had in a Pho Restaurant. I ordered the large and the portion was huge. Enough for a second meal. So, what were my issues with the restaurant? My Pho came out first. Fifteen minutes later, we stopped our order taker and asked where my wife's Bun was. Her reply was that the meat for the dish had to be cooked first and that it should be right out. A couple of minutes later, she brought us our appetizer of Chicken Wings and a minute after that, the Bun arrived. I've worked in restaurants long enough to know that not every dish comes from the same area of the kitchen and that timing sometimes is difficult to manage. These kinds of timing issues are usually stopped at the pass but it seemed like they simply delivered whatever came out regardless of order. But it wasn't particularly busy when we were there, so there was really no excuse for the Chicken Wings to not come out first. With staff running around, someone should have noticed that I had my entree while my wife did not. While the portions were fairly large, so was the pricing. Two entrees, one appetizer and a soda with tax and tip was over $60. The guy staff which used to work at the other location just seemed super bother by us saying anything but you can clearly see the problem & that we weren't touching our food because it was cold & you would think it would be hot from how long we waited for it & the fact the food was not even cooked & even the girl staff had noticed it before she went to go get him but you can see how annoyed he was that he wasn't trying to take it off the bill. I love Vietnamese food, Joe's location, and the service. I work as a RN nearby and have visited on 4 occasions. The extremely LOUD house music is disruptive to what would be a nice milieu. Every visit the MUSIC VOLUME was overbearing. You have to scream/yell at your family or colleagues sitting across from you, due to the excessive volume. Tran Nguyen has been previously informed about the excessive volume but does Not care. I asked a waitress why the music was so loud. They stated that many customers have complained. They lowered the music until I reached the door to exit to return to work, then callously turned back up again while I stood there.
