This is a true Effingham gem! Anytime I am in town for a visit I make a point to stop here to enjoy a Herbivorian wrap and some coffee! I love the chips that come with the wrap and I always ask for an extra side of hummus. They seem to always be busy and occasionally their food orders take awhile. But, it's a great place to sit and chat with a friend, so I'm not usually in a rush. Whoever designed this place is very talented and has their finger on the pulse of current design. It's hip without being too trendy and eco-friendly without being too granola. I love their signage and menu graphics. Keep it up, Joe Sippers! You're doing something right! read more

Possibly my first coffee shop experience in high school, didn't know i had to toast my own bagel; not exactly a fan in the beginning. Then I came back in the midst of my major tea obsession and tried their tea (Iron Goddess, something of the sort). It's an Oolong tea and it's divine. I live in San Diego now and I still have my mother ship a bag of the loose leaves out here every few months. I live in St. Louis but am from Cincinnati, I make the drive back and fourth a lot. Effingham is on my route and in my search for good coffee I found this place. My wife and I eventually started trying their wraps and now it is an assumed part of each trip. The people there a great, coffee is good, food is good, and prices are fair. I've never lived in Illinois, but we have a frequent drinkers punch card. I love this place! read more

Pretty cool place. Found it by going to my trusty source - yelp. Effingham was the halfway point of a long drive and I wanted a late lunch plus some caffeine. I ordered a half southwest salad and cup of red pepper soup. I'm not a red pepper fan but the soup was awesome! The only problem is that it was served very, very hot. I was completely done with my salad (which was pretty good, btw) and had to wait at least 5 more mins before I could even touch the soup and it still burned me a little. My latte was good and even came with a heart designed into it. Now for the atmosphere: it's definitely a small town shop. The older regulars are here but what I was shocked by was the eclectic group of people here. It's definitely not your yuppie coffee shop that I'm used to. Everyone is pretty cool and they mind their own. The decor is fun. Same tables throughout with non-matching chairs. There are beans for sale and apparel. Bathrooms were clean so that's a plus! I don't think I'd go out of my way for this place but if I was driving through and needed a cup of joe, I'd come back. read more

In a word, perfect! Free wi-fi, a fabulous quesadilla egg wrap with a snappy salsa ranch dressing, and a piping hot cup of Kaldi's smooth coffee made working from "home" a treat! The decor is inviting---trendy without feeling too contrived. The service was friendly, peppy, and fast--good when you're under a deadline. The place started to fill up as the lunch hour approached, so I high-tailed it to make room for more paying customers. Can't wait til my next visit to Effingham so I can try the lunch. read more

I love this place! I used to come here all the time back in high school and I've been a few times since then when I've been home. Can't wait to start coming again when I move back to the area next month. It's got an eclectic, indie atmosphere. This is a refreshing change from the chain restaurants on Keller. If you're driving through on the interstate, consider driving the extra mile or two to come here and get a unique experience and support local business! Joe Sipper's has several vegetarian options, something that can be hard to find in Effingham. I recommend the herbivorian wrap. Would have given five stars except I asked the counter person to find out what they used in the red velvet cheesecake to make it red...and he didn't know and didn't find out like I asked him to.... With the way Joe Sipoer does things, I couldn't imagine it being red dye, but you can't be too careful. So I sadly passed on dessert. But the food was great as always. read more

I really enjoyed my crab wrap, although the fact that it's real crab threw me for a loop. I'm used to fake crab seafood salad. So it was a bit drier and had more the texture of tuna salad. My roommate and I stopped here for dinner on a cross country drive recently. We're vegetarians so this seemed like our best option in the small town. The atmosphere here is great, open and clean with fun and comfortable furniture. We ordered pesto melts but didn't try the coffee since it was late in the day. The sandwiches were delicious although we thought the sides of plain tortilla chips were odd. I think serving potato chips with a pickle or even in-house made baked potato wedges would work better and make it a bit more of a solid meal flavor-wise. The carrot cake though... OMG the carrot cake. Easily one of the best I've ever had, mainly because it wasn't super sweet even with quite a bit of icing. One piece is big enough for two people to share. It would be nice to see more vegetarian options on the menu although we were happy with what we got. Prices are fair. If this cafe was in our neighborhood we'd be back! read more

Cute cafe with an artistic flair, well worth the drive off the interstate. Plenty of seating in front and back as well as a few small tables outside. Santa Fe burrito was chock full of veggies as well as tangy shredded chicken. Had a side of the corn chowder, which was fantastic. Fresh dill, potatoes and dill rounded out the creamy chowder. The hummus plate was served with grilled pita, cucumbers and bell pepper, as well as a bag of pita chips. The hummus tasted good, but would have benefitted from a squeeze of lemon. Also, I ran out of hummus and had plenty of dippers left, consider ordering a double portion of the hummus if you order the hummus plate. Looking forward to stopping in again. read more

Typically I love this place, good eats and good service. Today I was home visiting and met my girlfriend there for lunch. We waited around 30 minutes before going back up to the counter to find out where it was. They forgot to put our order in and never printed it out for them to make. This is very poor service. All we got was an apology and didn't seem that sincere. After many years of eating at this place, I most likely will never come back. Service is important and how you treat your customers. These girls seem to not care at all. I won't dismiss the fact that the food is good, it is. I just hope when you visit the service is great. read more
