Nah I ordered a patty melt and the patty was very small. I was hoping the meat patty was like a good fat burger you make at the house. It comes with a single patty, cheese and rye bread. Ages ago, I was a frequent visitor of Joe Willy's on Greenville. Many burgers were eaten, many buckets of beer were consumed, many sports were viewed, many good times were had. You get the point. I have no idea if this Joe Willy's is related to that Joe Willy's but it's the reason I bookmarked this spot. Here's the breakdown: ~You order at the counter (including a meat doneness preference - I dig), give your name and saddle up to the condiment bar when your name is called. I really like the condiment bar manner of burger assembly. If you like to put it on your burger, they have it. Iceberg or romaine, 2 types of pickles, tomatoes, red onions, mayo, ketchup, mustard and I also remember seeing soup pots with gravy and maybe BBQ and something else (sorry I didn't pay closer attention) if that's your thing. ~Burgers come in a 1/2lb or 1/3lb option and lemme tell ya, the 1/3lb burger is a meaty beast. The burgers have a decent flavor and enough of a charred exterior to be called grilled, or at least flat grilled. ~This isn't Keller's cheap but who is, other than Keller's? You'll spend a good $20 for 2 burgers, 2 sides and 2 drinks. ~The fry/ring combo basket is stupidly big. I'm not even sure 2 people could consume the whole thing. Order at your own risk or share with the table next to you. The good news is the onion rings were flaky, crispy onion ringy perfection. No soggy onions that fall out of the batter when you take a bite, no hard-on-the-outside, gooey-on-the-inside batter that has more crunch than taste. These onion rings just shot to the top of my list of best rings. And I'm a picky onion ringer. ~The ambiance is made for families, which is pretty perfect to me. The space is much bigger than it looks and there are a couple of different rooms to sit in with many options of tables or booths. Yes, it's in a strip mall but that doesn't faze me a bit nor does it change the flavor of the burgers. ~The staff, made up of mostly teenage girls, were all pleasant and kept the place clean and organized. There's nothing fancy about Joe Willy's and that's just how I like it. A good burger with the local crowd is all I need. read more

Their burgers are fantastic the onion rings are good, but oh my gosh the Fry's are amazing when dipped in their ranch dressing!!! This time got the chicken fried steak sandwich it was very good. I've been going to joe Willy's since I was little. I'm 34 now. They used to have a location in dallas until he moved it out to rockwall permanently. I love the hamburgers, salads, chicken strips, fries, onion rings and mushrooms. I don't go as often as I like to, but if I want a great burger besides whataburger, this is where I go. read more

The best onion rings in town! No best chicken strips tossed in Buffalo with ranch in town! Gosh or the burgers! Honestly, the gravy and condiment bar and any menu item is delicious! This used to be my favorite local place for tenders and fries. I returned my fries because they were all smaller bits and pieces only to have them forget to bring the new ones. Went for the first time today. Was very nice and clean, was greeted as soon as I walked in. The girl was very nice and helpful. Took my order right away and service was great!! I had their Philly Steak Sandwich and it was the best everything tasted so fresh a very large with a lot of meat! Great price for what I received. Loved the place would highly recommend!!! read more

Honestly this restaurant is okay. Would I return? Probably not. The food is bland and overpriced. I ordered a patty melt and asked for grilled onions on it. I literally got a small patty with cheese and two large pieces of bread. Whataburger's patty melt is definitely way better. I was disappointed. My husband got a burger and said it was bland. I like the concept of being able to put whatever you want on your burger however for their prices you'd think they'd have their own special sauce for you to add or something. The burger was good. Fresh lettuce and other veggies (I only eat lettuce on my burgers). The French fries were seasoned and were outstanding! My husband got the onion rings and they were very good too. Hand-battered and not frozen. It's a large place--much larger than it looks from outside. Would be a great place to have a group gathering. 3 stars for a few reasons. For one the prices are a bit steep. I ordered two kids meals and a meal for myself and it was almost $30. The burgers today were extremely greasy and lacked flavor. I have been here numerous times (I'd rather support local than national) and never walk away feeling amazed. I do like the home-town feeling with all the pictures on the wall and have always had really nice service from the employees. Apparently there was a Joe WIlly's in the tunnels in Downtown Dallas some years back. It is like a legend in our office. So a couple of my co-workers and I took a long lunch on a Friday to make the drive to Rockwall to re-live those happier days. Well, I really dont remember the Dallas location, but it was a fun little excursion and well worth the drive. They cook your burger to order, as you like it. I wanted medium rare, and they were right on the mark. Get the 1/3 lb burger basket, add swiss cheese, and substitute the onion rings for fries. What a perfect meal. They also have a great fixins bar with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and this amazing mushroom gravy. A great, simple, casual and tasty burger joint. read more

My favorite onion rings in Dallas...thin and crispy. I think they might soak the onions in something first too because they just kind of disintegrate in your mouth. Great selection of bottled sodas, very old timey. Good thick burgers, great bacon. About as greasy as any good burger place should be. Per another reviewer - "I think this place only gets high remarks, because it's Rockwall and there is not much else." - Please don't assume people from small towns don't have good taste. It's fine to dislike a place but don't imply the good reviews are undeserved because you think we're too dumb to know better burgers. Living in Texas kinda makes you a burger or brisket afficinado by proxy, but after 20 years of cooking food for customers, I've learned a thing or two about the food industry. This establishment is doing burgers right. Walk up order what you want... I ordered the half pound with cheddar with a basket of fries. It took about 10 minutea of waiting and my name was called. I picked up my order and proceeded to the fixin's bar... The bar was clean and tidy with a large selection of toppings, including the traditional burger toppings as well as some more non-typical, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and jalapenos for me. The burger was medium-rare as requested, and the bun was very durable (lasted theoughout till the last bite). It was well made, tasted great and the staff was awesome. The fries are homemade and well done. Highly recommended... for a great burger at a great price with a cozy atmosphere. read more

Joe Willy's seems to be a nice community burger and fries joint, a place you'd come with friends and family to have some tasty food and enjoy a good time. They even have a little ice cream shop section of the restaurant for that throwback old-fashioned element. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and side of onion rings, both of which were recommended by the friendly staff. Onion rings were on the thin side and crispy, the way I like them. Batter could be seasoned a bit more (salt and cayenne), but overall, pretty tasty. The cheesesteak was not too authentic, though passable, but perhaps just a bit disappointing, as Phillies so often and sadly are. The biggest issue was a soft roll with very little tooth, sliced clean through. A nice toothy roll with a 3/4 slice to hold in the good stuff would be an improvement. Steak should be shaved thinner for better taste and texture. If the meat is not sliced super thinly, it detracts from the flavor - or the meat could have not been super fresh. Adding shredded cheese (and grilled onions if not 86'ed by a poor diner who doesn't know what's good for them) to the steak, during the latter part of the grilling process adds big flavor and eliminates any need for odd seasonings like worchestershire, which I detected a hint of. A final thought, there's no reason to be afraid of kosher salt and pepper, though, which real chefs fear not, particularly the salt. For the diner, I'd say JW's is a fine place to eat - has a nice atmosphere for the area, and the food seems decent - though I probably should have stuck to the burger menu. Joe Willy's is very much a local favorite. There's always some kind of group having a get-together here, be it a soccer team or cheer leading squad. There are photos of people from Rockwall and the area all over the restaurant, which gives it a hometown feel. The thing that bothers me is that all that trumps the food in general opinion, and the food...isn't that great. The hamburgers are decent, but taste like ones you could make at your house. It's nothing special, though I do like the bar they have so that you can arrange your own toppings on your burger. The salads are mediocre as well, typical of what you'd expect anywhere. Nothing really stands out as truly exceptional. In-N-Out burger is just around the corner, as is Whataburger, Chili's, and numerous others if a good burger is what you're looking for. The place is persistently busy as well, so don't expect to go right in and have your meal in 15 minutes. All in all, I like its hometown feel, but its food doesn't make it anything really desirable. read more

The first time I tried Joe Willy's, I was not a fan and swore I'd never go back. (I would have rated it a 2.) But, b/c I ran into so many people who love it, I tried it again. (Also, I think it's cute that they are always participating in fund raisers.) Now I'd give it a 3.5. Food: Several people here complained of the fries being too greasy. I'd have to agree; however, I remedied this by ordering them extra crispy. Yum. Definitely do that. Also, I stopped getting a regular burger b/c I don't like to dress my own burger. I get the ratios all wrong and sometimes think the burger bar is gross (not just here...at all places like this). So now I get the patty melt with grilled onions and just add ranch on it. That is REALLY good. It's irritating that the grilled onions don't already come on the patty melt like they do everywhere else, but it's a must. Finally, the bottled soda collection is fun and hard to pass up. Or you can get a fountain drink (that the people behind the counter fill up for you...also annoying). Atmosphere: It's time for a paint job and new booths, but you can tell this place is clean. It's been around for awhile so it's well-loved. The place has a lot of home-town pride, which is charming. Service: Eh...I've never felt slighted, and if I need/ask for something, my needs are met. But I kind of hoped that because of the charming home-town feel I mentioned before, the staff would exude the same friendliness I assumed would be there. Also, why not let people get their own fountain drinks? Use that girl to bring people their food instead so there's not a crowd around the burger bar. Value: Also eh...I'd expected cheaper at a place like this. It's not expensive, but it's the same price as a trendier place down the way at The Harbor, where grilled onions come on the burger and I can fill my own cup. Would I Go Back? Yes but not often. It's conveniently located and not too many people do a patty melt. Plus I really like their fries now that I figured out the extra crispy thing. But Rockwall has gotten competitive about burgers lately, so JW's needs to up their game a bit. read more

Wouldn't even give ONE star. Tired this after seeing this pop up on Yelp multiple times (guess business pays for ads). Extremely disappointed and wasted $40. Burger was pre-formed frozen party with ZERO flavor. Reminds me of McDonalds burger. Onion rings had a good flavor but were served cold. For the price I shouldn't have to dress my burger myself. Workers taking my order were young girls who were wearing shorts that are not appropriate for a "family" establishment. Save your money and go to Whataburger or Braums instead. read more

Neat place. Tons of seating. Burgers and wings and some other American offerings. Whoever said these are the best onion rings, YES. Flour and buttermilk breading on a huge sweet onion slice. Fried pickles not great--due to the pickles, not the amazing breading. I had the boneless buffalo wings, and even though they were insufficiently tossed in sauce, the quality of the chicken was very good and that sauce was tasty. Fries were good. Overall, I'd say this place is better to visit than a Chapp's, but I didn't taste the burger. They looked underwhelming. Just try it and see what you think. My wife and I have been going here for early dinner on weekends for almost 10 years. We feel that Joe Willy's has one of the best burgers in Rockwall. Where they beat out Snuffers is that Joe WIlly's is more kid friendly. Unfortunately their cheese fries cannot compare to Snuffers, but overall the place is just more pleasant and inviting. However, in recent years they've begun to support regular fundraisers. Avoid the place anytime they are doing fundraisers which have become way too common. Sure they're always for some "great cause," but I go to Joe Willy's because I want to get my food, fix it up the way I like it and sit down to eat. What is the point of having my food brought to me when I still have to get up and fix my burger? I don't want an untrained restaurant person breathing, handling, touching my burger. Then these fundraiser folks crowd out the main room; you have no easy path to the burger bar. Another peeve of mine is that when I go to a small burger joint I don't want to be bothered by a different person every 2 minutes asking me if everything is ok. Joe Willy's is a full self-service place, but these guys try to become waiters by aimlessly wondering around looking for something to do. It just gets frustrating when you're trying to relax. Trying to have a conversation with someone and constantly being interrupted to say, "No thank you. Everything is fine" gets annoying. read more

I'm giving it a 5 on what I have eaten here. Food is cooked to order and comes out pretty fast and as ordered. The wings were on point and not small. The burger was cooked medium rare as ordered and was bigger than the bun. The chicken fingers are good size. A must order is the onion rings if you like them. The chicken salad is huge.
