Both drinks ran dry, I sat there forever waiting to pay, and my bottomless coffee was not exactly bottomless. A refill or faster checkout would've made a big difference. I wish I could say something positive about my experience, but unfortunately I left feeling disrespected and embarrassed. When we checked in, we were told the wait would be about 40 minutes. While we waited, we watched five different parties--most with groups of three to five people--get seated before us. I know they didn't have reservations because two of those groups actually asked us how to check in before they were seated. After waiting the 40 minutes we were originally quoted, I went back to ask why we still hadn't been seated. Instead of an explanation or an apology, I was simply told, "It's going to be another 40 minutes." I truly don't want to believe this was a race issue, but I can't ignore how the experience made me feel. If customer service and fairness matter to you, I encourage you to be mindful of how situations like this can come across. I stopped in during the Rockwall town square Halloween event and bought an iced latte and a bag of coffee beans for later. The iced latte was bold, strong, and deliciously cool on a hot day. The service was fast and pleasant. The coffee beans were freshly roasted and I enjoyed them at home making espresso drinks the following week. How have I lived in Rockwall for 4 years and never been here. We did not have reservations but they were able to squeeze us in on a Saturday of the Farmers Market. Its such a great vibe inside. Quaint but rather large eatery w/a rustic shabby vibe; cement cracked walls, butcher block style table tops, and hard surface seating behind a huge store front window. They are farm-to-table and claim to craft everything themselves. Pickled onions, pickles, mayonnaise, and mustard are said to be house made. Has a welcoming bubbly female server who was super informative c'ept she failed to tell me there is a .25 charge for mayo & mustard, and .75 charge for onions & jalapeños. Each. I paid an additional $2 for a $15 burger. So $17 for a burger and potato chips. Oh yeah, grass fed burger! I also had a chai latte w/almond milk that was more expensive than Starbucks. I might've been ok with this almost $30 lunch for myself had the server in all her bubbliness, mentioned that the condiments she offered (and there are plenty to choose from) were at an up-charge. I brought it up to her and she chuckled and said, yeah sorry I didnt tell you that". For that slick move and response, I wont go back. Im all for the small local neighborhood business and will choose one every time over the big corporate owned billionaire businesses. I despise shady business practices. Post a sign that discloses uncustomary charges to alleviate the sticker shock. One more thing, there are no books here!!! read more

Maybe because they have 16 year olds running your business on a Sunday morning who lack common sense. I said 'I'm sorry I will be leaving if I can't enjoy this morning on your patio.' In downtown Rockwall, historic building, industrial, & great size for a cafe. The food was all fresh, made to order, and organic. Flavors were all deep and smells were delightful! Coffee was stupendous & customer service was top tier! It was our first time going and we can't wait to get back! The fries that came with our sandwich were hand cut, BBQ style, and piping hot when they came out! According to the waiter they used to be just a coffee shop and they converted into a cafe since they have a lot of in-house products! They have award winning baristas and the ambiance was exquisite! I came in today and my waitress was the girl that sounded like she was from Australia. I said could you make me an iced mocha and make sure it's really sweet? I don't know if she wasn't paying attention but when I got my iced mocha, it was zero sugar extremely bitter. I flagged down a different waiter and asked if I could have some sweetener and cream because I specifically asked if she could make it sweet and it had no sugar in it. They charged me an additional dollar or two dollars, I can't remember how much it was just for sweetener! Seriously? I've been to hundreds of coffee places I have never been charged to make my drink sweeter! So then this male waiter goes just so you know our coffee is made unsweetened. It's not your typical coffee place. We don't do a lot of iced drinks or sweet drinks. Why didn't my waitress tell me this when I asked her? I have no idea. Anyways, I got the patty melt and it was really good! Very much enjoyed it. Did not enjoy being nickel and dimed and my waitress should've definitely spoke up considering it was my first time there. Let me preface this by saying I have NEVER left a negative review for a restaurant. Only positive ones when deserved. Dear Book Club, Oh, the chances I've given you. But, enough is enough. I am the kind of customer who knows your staff's names, the mgmt's names. I ask how you are. I get to know you. I show you respect, not just because I spent 15 years in the restaurant biz myself but also that I recognize you're real people and you deserve kindness. But, didn't I deserve basic respect, too? Why, when I came in (multiple times) and asked how you were, how's your life, what's been new....why did you respond with such nastiness, such brusqueness, as if I was such an ANNOYANCE. Let me tell you, for someone like me, who constantly takes as many moments of the day to make others days better in any way I can, it hurt. And it hurt over and over. Good food will not be all you need. What will make you thrive and successful, especially in a small, tight-knit community like Rockwall is SERVICE. And I don't mean you need to to anything special. I mean, just smile. Act like you're glad I'm there. It's what you do in the service biz. I chalked it up to three of you having a "bad day." But after it happened so consistently, I decided to let someone know (in mgmt) how it felt. That it was affecting my desire to come back. Now, I won't EVER be back. And I wouldn't recommend you to anyone. And I never use these words. But why would I come in to a place where these three people (who shall remain nameless) are consistently rude and unpleasant. Ummmmmm, who knows what you're doing to my coffee or my food? I will say, you do have one or two waitresses that are super kind. But even their sweetness can't compensate for the other crap. ESP when it's coming from a couple in mgmt. This is not just me feeling this way. Many folks in this community feel the same. Parking: Street and small lot, free. Tourist review: I am from CA, and I love a good biscuits and gravy. I came here and ordered G&G and a hot dog. The hot dog was delicious. I am into something simple, and it was perfect. The only flaw was that the bread got a little soggy and broke apart. When you first walk in you see a real deal coffee roaster. These guys do it right in the coffee arena. The barista is a true artist. Tbd lattes are amazing and the presentation is a true work of artwork. The service was great our waitress was really good, very professional and prompt. Our food excellent and my simple breakfast sandwich was delicious and cooked perfectly. The one eyed Willy was the perfect combination of egg, cheese, bacon and toasted wheat bread. The piece toast is right on with homemade jelly. We've been here plenty of times. Never had a problem until today. We always show up with a small support dog that is quiet and locked into a fully enclosed stroller with a mesh screen. We've checked with the staff in the past to ensure there is no problem with the dog. Today, there was a middle aged woman who is either a host or a manager. She had a serious attitude problem. From the moment we walked in, she gave us dirty looks and acted like we were ruining her life when we asked for a table for four. For whatever reason she decided she would seat us, and then waited for the precise moment when we were ordering our food with the waitress, before walking up and inadvertently kicking us out of the restaurant, citing the dog as the reason. We paid for the coffee I was already drinking and embarrassingly made the walk of shame out of the restaurant. Could've just explained the rules have changed and we can't be seated if we have a dog. I can't say enough amazing things about this place. My friend lives in Rockwall and told me that I had to check it out, so we went! I wish they had some amazing vegan options on their menu, but I'd come just for the coffee. I ended up going home with a bag of their Dandelion roast after enjoying my vanilla latte with oat milk. I had toast with avocado spread to eat, which was pretty simple, but again...I was mostly there for coffee. We had our kids with us and they loved their pancakes! Our table smelt of cinnamon from them which was amazing. Or server (I think her name was Jane) was so kind! The atmosphere in here is really cool, too! The Shel Silverstine quote on the restroom wall took me back to my childhood for a second the funny lines little things hanging on the walls nearby made us crack up! I like that they also have a separate area up front where if you want to just grab coffee to go you can easily do it right when we walk in. Their coffee bar in the main area is so electric and fun! I'd go just to chill out there at the bar. On a side note: my friend filled me in on some of the hateful things that were happening to this business during the hight of the BLM movement last year (as well as the discrediting reviews being made here on yelp) and it makes me so sad! To the owners of this business, you've got a long time customer with me and I stand by you and the work you've put in to show love, support and care to a community who needs and deserves it equality. Arrived on a Thursday afternoon.. here is my take. This place is nestled in downtown Rockwall in a really charming old school brick building. Inside the ceilings are high, you are immediately greeted with the aroma of coffee and fresh baked bread, there is fairly large seating area. It's clean and has a hipster coffee house vibe. We were seated immediately by a very friendly server. It was lunchtime so I got the Giants Club which was absolutely delicious and my husband got The Caudio which was chicken salad also delicious. (I know your thinking well yeah they were delicious it's impossible for those to be bad) but hear me out... It was the BREAD that made these extremely good. Which makes sense because they make their own. Overall the cost is low for the quality, service and vibe. YES, YES, YES try it you won't be disappointed. The building is great, very unique and pleasant to sit in if you bring a parka. During the week, in the afternoon, it is a great place to meet with friends to talk or to sit around and be seen while working on your screenplay/book/manifesto. The coffee is for more refined tastes than mine. Those that like to sit around and discuss the lineage of the Arabica beans parents and soil Ph balance. For me I just tasted an oily residue in my mouth so I switched over to sweet tea. My wife enjoyed her biscuits and gravy, while I had waffles, bacon and eggs.
