This place feels super nostalgic. I grew up in the 90s/2000s and it feels like a time capsule with the photos on the wall and the overall atmosphere. I love that they have a mini arcade, which is tucked away by the bathrooms. And to be mentioned, the bathrooms are for only one person at a time. I got a burger and it was soooo good! The fries were good and the fried onions were good when hot and fresh. My husband had the chicken sandwich and it was okay. But from the looks of it most people I saw got burgers. Old timey burger and fries place. Prices are fair, burgers are good and they have a wide selection of craft root beers and sodas. The cool thing is they cook the burger to preference ( ie. Normally I don't mention anything like this but it bugged me. We brought my parents here while they were visiting. It was great and the food was tasty. We came back on a Saturday, different people but same gal and a different guy. Basketball fries were half way full, my little girl even noticed. Not one worker smiled at us. I stood in line while the gals behind the counter smiled and served refills to people walking up, not once asked if I needed a refill. I had to ask for one. Then the gal turned her back and walked away. As soon as the guy handed my cup, the gal turned back smiled and the next person and asked if she could help them. 3 gals here, 2 white and one Burnet. Blonde guy and 2 white gals really don't like people of color. We are native Americans .. don't like Texas , then go somewhere else. One new gals showed up and had smiles for everyone. ONION RINGS are why you go here. From the 1970s on Greenville Ave in Dallas till the current location in Rockwall this iconic eatery has served up incredible onion rings. The fries can be sporadic from truly exceptional to overcooked. Burgers are build your own and the burger bar is outstanding. Don't forget the home style gravy. Drinks are refilled to your content. Staff are mainly young people but they always reflect the owners. The walls are adorned with pictures of kids who ate here over the years. The place is extremely cleans and reminds you of the old burger joints. Don't forget the cookies and ice cream. On July 4,2023 we lost the man who owned the place. Great food as always. The rating isn't about the food. While we were eating a group of teens (8 maybe) came in to order. No one was wearing a mask. Even though there are several signs up about wearing a mask to order, no one said anything. When I picked up my food I said something to the server. Her response was "sorry". I said that wasn't good enough and asked for a manager. She said there wasn't a manager working, that they (the young ladies taking orders and serving) were the only people working. Wow! In spite of all the other burger places here in Rockwall, this place does a great business because they offer quality delicious burgers without breaking your wallet (are you paying attention Snuffer's with your $9.50 burgers??). If you're not counting calories, be sure to check out their hand spun milkshakes! Their peanut butter milk shakes are pure heaven!!! Went there for lunch and the chicken fried steak was way over cooked. I tried to cut it and the breading cracked and flew off my plate which then allowed me to see the very small piece of meat inside which was brown around the edges and tough due to the amount of overcooking. My daughter got the chicken strips and there was a texture issue that was not good on those and they were rubbery. We left because we didn't want to get sick. I will say that the manager did handle this in a quick manner for me so maybe it was just an off day. read more

Just ate here with friends a couple days ago. There are so many positive things to say about Joe Willy's I almost don't know where to begin... Okay. So, first word of advice is check out the menu and decide what you want before you enter the restaurant. The reason for this is that as soon as one enter there is a lot to take in: a cabinet with pure, cane sugar Dr Pepper; a 1950's era Coca-Cola cool box; a tub of iced-down Mexican Coca-Cola (also made with pure cane sugar); and a plethora of Old School sodas and micro-brew "root" beer. Ordering is done by way of a walk-up counter and one can order fountain soft drinks or iced tea there, if bottled soda is not desired. Joe Willy's uses Pepsi products and pellet (aka: crunchy) ice. We ordered the chicken fried steak with "frings." Chicken fried steak was fork tender, rings were definitely homemade, and the fries were skin on, which I happened to love. Everything was fresh and tasted great! There is a buffet outfitted with very fresh "fixins" for burgers and both cream and mushroom gravy for the chicken fried steak and chicken, so one can pick the style of gravy and heap on as much as one wants. Dessert fare includes homemade milkshakes made with Blue Bell® ice cream, freshly baked cookies of several varieties, and candies for the kiddies who just have to have it. Quaint and clean, Joe Willy's did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and the restroom was also clean AND stocked. I will do Joe Willy's again, for sure. Only reason it doesn't get five stars is the limited menu and counter ordering. I prefer to be waited on at a table and would have appreciated more menu options. Nevertheless, good place to eat! Went here for lunch, the place is cute, lots of seating, and friendly staff. We split the cheeseburger with cheddar. Fried onion rings, crunchy and tasty. Fried pickles very well done, the best I've had. The homemade Ranch dressing is wonderful and free! I love the condiments bar where you can dress your own burger or sandwich with fresh produce and the Ranch! Bbq sauce and gravy. I used to boast about the chicken fried steak like crazy. It was more than half the size of the plate and it was homemade. After a few years I've returned to find out they've been replaced with a low quality chicken fried steak substitute.Which is sad because made this trip specifically to have this meal I always remembered being amazing, now the fries on the other hand used to be trash but this time they were really good. Good ol hamburger and fries. Portions are great. You buy the burger, then build it off the salad bar. I AM HERE for the fried pickles y'all...... Mmmmmmmm, mmmmmmm! They are battered with what seems like the chicken tender batter. So so good. Also, I like to order off the kids meal, and they don't charge you an arm and a leg to do that as an adult. I think its less than a buck. Don't be fooled by the regular or basket portion. The basket is for a table, regular can be shared. I also love that little bit of char they get on my patty. Yes.
