My review is long overdue. Dr.Kizner was my doctor back in 2019, he's amazing. I never felt forced or pushed to do anything I did not want. For example, I consider myself to be a pretty holistic person and I opted out of the anatomy ultra sound testing, I opted out of the diabetes test, Dr.Kizner respected my wishes which looking back I really appreciate. I also remember my contractions were killing me (3 days before my due date) and I'm so happy he told the hospital to take me in and get the process going. Demeaning experience.  I came in because I have been experiencing horrible menstraul cycles for almost a year since I received my 2nd Covid Vaccine. I am not antivax however need to know whats going on.  I was scheduled I think incorectly but the girls up front fixed it as a well woman visit which is fine.  Once with Dr Kizner, was immediately dismissed of concerns regarding the shot, so I shut down.  Went ahead with the exam and was told to undress like normal from waist down.  I have never been in the room with a Dr doing a pap for any legnth of time so thought that was odd, but a nurse finally joined us. Wasnt very gentle but figured it was due to this being my first in 3 years. Then Dr Kizner gets up and next thing I know hes pulling my shirt and bra up over my breast like we were in a car making out or something. 45 years old that has never happened.  The nurse saw the shock on my face and explained as hes doing the breast exam. He finally jumps in and mutters something. Sent for testing was not prepared for at all.  I knew it was a pelvic ultrasound but didnt find out until half way through that there is another part where they are actually putting something in you to take images. And what are you going to say? No. Your right in the middle of the exam.  The center I had the ultrasound done at called to check on me after and apparently Dr. Kizner is who was supposed to explain that?  Fast forward to today, I finally had a moment to set up an account with Dr. Kizners office, and find out that I have a cysts that he never mentioned when he called to go over the results? Thats scary. How do you miss that? Im not a doctor but I can read as Im sure by now he can.  I can understand Dr Kizner is a bit quirky but that is no excuse not to do your job.  Especially if you do your part. I sat through that awful exam that was very uncomfortable to have information witheld? This makes no sense and this is not ok.  This experience is recent and in trying to figure out why I was treated this way, I realized the why doesnt matter. As women, being dismissed is normal, especially women of color. But to specialize in the field of women and be dismissed, demeaned and have important information about your health withheld is not ok. read more

My Internist referred me to Dr. Kizner for an evaluation. I had a great experience from making an appointment to the actual visit with Dr. Kizner. I filled out paperwork and was seen less than 10 minutes later. I was escorted to Dr. Kizner's office where he asked me several questions about my health/family history. Later, I was shown to the examination room for the actual evaluation. Dr. Kizner explained everything he was doing in real time; I appreciated that. Although I was tense during the procedure it was over before I knew it. He typed away on his tablet summarizing my visit and that was it! I thanked him for making me feel comfortable throughout the process. Dr. Kizner's staff were very personable, knowledgeable and professional. I was satisfied. read more

Dr. Kizner is one of the best Gynocologists, I've ever had. After dealing with Dr. Chu and Dr. Tejani, I was at wits end. I had post-menopausal problems. Dr. Chu's office was rude and said she couldn't see me for over a month. I told them that I may have cancer. Dr Tejani couldn't even do a decent D and C. Dr. Kizner did a D and C, and immediately found that I had uterine cancer. He never hesitated to call me once he had the diagnosis. I had a hysterectomy 11 months after first being sent to a gynecologist. I am now cancer-free. Thank you, Dr. Kizner!! read more

I loved everything about them--the office, doctor, nurse, even the other doctor who ended up delivering my second baby (Dr. Agnelli). Dr. Kizner is very natural birth friendly and was respectful of my wishes. He doesn't pressure you into anything. He's also very knowledgeable and gentle. I'm a total baby when it comes to doctors but Dr. Kizner put me at ease. Edited 3-30-15 I had my third baby on March 2015 and Dr. Kizner delivered him. Once again Dr. Kizner was great. He didn't rush me or pressure me to do anything even though he had other things to do (like a scheduled c-section for someone else). That said a lot to me considering I've heard other people's stories about their doctors doing things to fit their schedules. I'm so glad he is my doctor. I was going to have my 1st child with a midwife and do a home birth. When it didn't work out I was initially disappointed, but a midwife recommended Kizner to me and it was the best referral for someone who prefers natural birth. read more

My previous experience with a OBGYN who had come highly recommended by many of my friends did not go well. After much research and the recommendation of a Bradley teacher I chose Dr. Kizner. First, the office staff and nurse were great. They were kind, never rushed me and always answered my questions. Huge plus (last office I went to the office staff was unpleasant). The office staff sets the tone and you tend to spend a lot of time with the nurses so having someone that makes you comfortable is important. I was a high risk pregnancy but was always treated with respect my entire pregnancy. Dr. Kizer is not the most talkative doctor, but if you want someone who knows what they are doing, will be open to alternative ideas, and will treat you fairly and with respect then he is the doctor for you. I feel like the entire office staff respects your time as well. In all my months going there I think I had to wait over twenty minutes only once because the Dr. had to deal with an emergency. Now for the actual delivery You . It was very convenient that I was at Los Alamitos hospital. It is right by his office so he was able to come by and check on me till I was ready to deliver. I was hoping to avoid a c-section but circumstances did not make that possible. It was medially necessary and because I chose Dr. Kizner I had the peace of mind knowing that if he said it was necessary- it really was. He did a great job stitching me up and the wonderful end to the story is that both I and my baby are healthy. I looked at Drs. in Orange, Newport and all points in between. It was nice to end up with one close to my house and I am happy with my overall experience. read more

Too bad. Maybe if I got to see a doctor without communicating with his staff I would leave a better feedback. However, I still will express my not a very pleasant experience here. When I arrived there, they sent be back home right away due to cancelation by the 3rd party booking group. Now, I understand that it is part of my fault of not checking emails appropriately. However, situation could have been a bit better if there was a better customer service. I know that I might look young and that people might think that I shouldn't even be there at the women's health center to check the possibility of being pregnant. However, the way Dr. Joel Kizner's staff talked to me made me feel very humiliated and confused of their wish to help first patients. I know they are all very busy, however they still could have tried to be a little bit more patient and explain the reasons on why I need to be back within few weeks. Instead, they talked to me in a rush and rude way trying to make me leave as soon possible and leaving myself, 25 years old young adult thinking that maybe I should have known all those early pregnancy 101 theories and its symptoms by heart like I exercise this early pregnancy activity every other month. Anyhow, definitely will not come back. And thanks to them I now think that probably mostly all private MD will be bad like this. So instead, I will go to more professional places such as actual large hospitals, rather to wannabe medical staff clinics. Hope this review will help young adults to learn that for their first time experience it is best to go to medical professional places where staff actually go through interviews, tests and trainings to be qualified for medical job. read more

Great experience with Dr. Kizner. His staff is amazing and he's extremely knowledgeable. Dr. Kizner is a little socially awkward but the guy knows his stuff! He allowed me to TOLAC my second child. It was unsuccessful but he never once pushed for a csection and allowed me to labor for as long as I felt comfortable. I carried the guy for almost 42 weeks before requesting induction, during the waiting period, he never brought up scheduling a csection either. I was never stuck waiting in the exam rooms for very long and he took extra time to answer all my concerns. He never rushed our appointments. I highly recommend him to anyone who's interested in VBACing or as an OB in general (helped me through back to back mastitis). read more

I have 3 babies, first one delivered by Dr sohl not recommend.. too rough, no interaction, awkward .2nd baby delivered by DR kizner, very serious, yet, very sweet, my delivery was so smooth and calm and easy, Dr kizner had a lot of patience and didn't rush to cut me unlike Dr sohl and Dr . Leslie Gonzales, who delivered my 3rd baby, she didn't even say hi when she showed up and was in a bad mood idk if it was because I delivered at 3 am? Still, very rude. Dr. Kizner has a calm, yet nervous demeanor, I will give him a star for that. His staff is nice and parking is easy, I will give another star for that. Usually I don't like to defame a professional, but I will just say I will not be going back for substandard quality of care. Even upon meeting, I did not even get so much as shaking of my hand or any form of greeting. This is the greeting that I got when I first said hello and sat down, mind you, invited in by him. "What? Oh. Um. I'm finishing up on the last patient. Just sit there." This was a foreshadow of my entire visit and I honestly should have walked out of there, but I stayed to give him another chance. What was to follow in the visit was passive, condescending remarks and poor communication. For example, I was undressed from the waist down with a sheet covering my butt naked self. The door was open, so I gave him a couple of minutes to close it without reminding him. He was then about to perform the routine so I thought it would be appropriate to ask him to close the door for privacy. He answered flustered and almost upset and stated he was waiting for his assistant to come in. I understand that, but had he addressed it earlier or even delivered it more respectfully I would've been more accepting. As a RN, I always communicate with my patients and make sure they are comfortable and at ease. Dr. Kizner not only failed to do this, but he belittled me and made a stressful visit even more stressful. Lesson learned. I do not recommend. read more

Dr. Kizner himself is OK but the staff are rude with their unpleasant remarks making you feel stupid for asking questions you don't know as a first time mom. I honestly feel this place being super unprofessional, the urine samples they take are placed with others on a table in the restroom( with name and DOB) talk about PHI BREACH. Their personal minus one are just rude rude rude... Eating while attending you etc so sad when you have no other option and they treat you that way. read more

Dr. Kizner has a very mild manner and as much as I was scared of a gyn exam before (bad previous experience with other doctors), there was never any problem there. He is gentle and careful, gives you a lot of information (even unasked - I often do not know what questions to ask) and never seems to be in a hurry. The nurses are great also, they are humane and friendly, they remember you and treat you like you're special. I would not hesitate to recommend this doctor to anyone. read more

I made an appointment to see Dr. Kizner after a referral from my primary care doctor and then checking out his yelp reviews. Unfortunately we had to use his OB services in an emergency situation that resulted in a pregnancy loss, however his office was understanding and sensitive to our needs after a negative emergency room experience and feeling scared about what was happening. He is professional, courteous, and very well-educated. He made my care a priority, linked me to a better hospital, and even performed the surgery I needed himself all within a few hours of meeting for the first time. Dr. Kizner and his staffs are very wonderful. Dr.Kizner and his staffs took care of my 2 pregnancies and delivered my 2 babies. It is very important to me to be comfortable with the OB/GYN office since I had to visit them every month throughout my pregnacies. The thing that I really like about Dr. Kizner himself is that everytime I ask him a question or have a concern he would use evidence based from scientific studies to answer my question or concern. Dr. Kizner was the best OB/GYN I've ever been to. He made me feel comfortable throughout my pregnancy. I was pretty young when I gave birth to my daughter back in 2012. He never once made me feel like I was being judged at all. The office was always clean. I never found myself waiting very long. Scheduling appointments was easy. When it was time for delivery, Dr. Kizner was quick to get to the hospital, even though it was 3 o'clock in the morning. I highly recommend Dr. Kizner! read more

I was reluctant of going here because he was partners with Agnelli and I had a bad experience with her. I chose to go here though because my mother works with him in the OR and suggested that he was a kind man. Sadly I missed my appointment date but the staff ladies ended up calling me and helped me reschedule the same week which I thought was kind. The staff is a little sassy and sarcastic but they are truly kind. I didn't even have to wait long to get inside a room or be looked at by the doctor. Updating my account info with the doctor wasn't as hard as I thought either. I have a long list of health problems but he was kind enough to listen, ask questions then enter the new info in his computer. I was getting an annual woman check up (I am young 20). The check up was fast but weird because it was my first time having a nurse in the room with the doctor. It was a bit painful due to being nervous but Kizner was kind. The entire time he was friendly, attentive, kind, and patient. At the end I had a couple of questions to ask him about my womanly parts and he didn't rush me. Right when I asked him the several questions he automatically decided to take a couple of tests and take a sample to look at. I was surprised he took the action to get to it fast (most doctors tell you to come back). He gave me a prescription without hassling me and let me go on my way. He was reassuring and he made the whole experience more comfortable than expected. I would go back to him! Though I'm young and theres not much in my area that I should worry about I was treated kindly. The staff was nice to me as well. And they told me that my results would be given to me oven the phone in a week so I didnt have to come back in. I loved that! He's older and hes a man but it didn't make the experience awkward. I have debated writing this review but have decided to just write it because it may help someone avoid these same issues. Let me start by saying he should really reconsider his front office staff because that was where the majority of my issue stemmed from.I went to Dr.kizner in May 2016 after finding out I was pregnant. During this time I was unsure if I was going to continue the pregnancy which I had discussed with Dr. Kizner while in the room, once I finished in the room I went out to the desk to get my next appointment, because I had told Dr.Kizner I would call if I decided I didn't want to continue the pregnancy to get the authorization, the first lady asked so do you know what your going to do yet, then the second lady chimed in with are you going to keep it, mind you there is a waiting room full of people, no window, & a few head turns as they continue to ask me questions & I respond with I am not sure I will call which I get the response well you need to decide before its too late. Anywho I decided to continue with my pregnancy and had gotten notes to allow me to continue in the nursing program I was in, which were issued by the front desk. At this time I was a full time nursing student working two CNA jobs (one 12 night shift). Once 34 weeks hit I couldn't take the back pain I was experiencing and I was completely burned out so at this appointment I asked Dr.Kizner if I would be able to get a note to excuse me from work due to the back pain & exhaustion i had been experiencing, he asked me where the pain was then told me to tell the front desk because they handle that, which is weird because I figured as the doctor you would dictate if they give the note or not but ok. So I go to the front desk and ask her if I can have a note for work because of back pain, she responds your only 34 weeks your not eligible for disability, I proceed to explain I am not asking for disability I'm simply asking for a note excusing me from work, we go back and forth for a minute then she says I DON'T EVEN THINK YOU'LL QUALIFY FOR DISABILITY SINCE YOUR UNEMPLOYED, I respond excuse, being that we have had conversations about my employment in the past but I wouldn't expect her to remember that but then again why are you assuming that I am unemployed, I tell her that I have two jobs and have been working at both for more that a year but that doesn't really matter because I am not asking for disability I am asking for a note, I continue to tell her that the reason I am asking for a note is because they make me a sitter for the majority of my shifts and its not comfortable to sit in those chairs as well as they forget to come and break me so I am also going long periods without eating. Her response is your not sitting in the chair for 12hours though. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I was trying so hard not to be the stereotypical mad black women but she was taking me there. I said you know what okay and left without leaving a urine sample or making a appointment, as soon as I left I got on the phone with my insurance and found a doctor that would take me at 34 weeks and was given a note for work without an issue. I had a easy delivery and was blessed with a healthy baby boy. My advice to Dr.Kizner is to re-evaluate his front office staff or get them some extensive training because if they can't give equality service to the people they have to communicate with the most that may turn people away. read more

For a first time mommy to be my experience at this office was unpleasant... On my 16th week appointment I was very excited to find out the sex of my baby. Of course I brought my family we were all excited!!! Only to be treated with disrespect, by the office staff, because I had to many people with me. Dr Kizner is such an intelligent, competent and caring doctor. I went to him because I was having difficulty conceiving my fourth child. He was always patient and always took the time to carefully listen to any concerns and address any questions I had. I concieved after a few months and went to him throughout my entire pregnancy. The office is staff is very friendly and genuinely care for their patients, as does Dr Kizner. I was 36 and technically considered "high risk" but was never treated as such or made to feel that there was anything to be concerned about. This was important to me because I wanted a stress free pregnancy and was also planning to have an unmedicated VBAC after two c-sections. My previous OB made me feel like a c-section was my only option, after one vaginal and one c-section delivery, which resulted in me having a second c-section. I felt like I had no options. Having three children already and a very busy life I could not afford to be out for six weeks on pain medication recovering from a c-section. Attempting to have a VBAC was extremely important to me. I feel like Dr Kizner listened to me and knew what I wanted and made it happen. Even when I doubted whether a VBAC after one vaginal and two c-section deliveries was possible, he made me feel like I could do it. More importantly, Dr Kizner responded to every question or concern my husband and I had with facts, evidence, studies and probabilities; hard facts that we could base our descisions upon. We always felt in control and when the time came for me to deliver he was there every step of the way. Always calm and always composed. After 34 hours of labor I gave birth vaginally and unmedicated to my daughter who for the first time with any of my children, I was awake and coherent enough to hold her and breastfeed her for the first hour and a half of her life. That moment made it all worth it and was priceless. I am so happy and so grateful for Dr Kizner and his staff for giving me the gift of those first moments with my daughter. Not being rushed of to the post operating room and taken away, but there holding and getting to know my baby who I had waited so long to finally meet. Thank you Dr Kizner and your staff for giving me the best child birth experience Ive ever had. I wish I'd found you sooner! read more

This review is a long time coming, but I feel the need to leave this review for others who may be thinking of choosing Dr. Kizner to deliver their baby. One star is for the two ladies who ran the front office and the medical assistant - all three were always very kind and accommodating to me and my family. I began seeing Dr. Kizner in my second trimester. I had a high deductible medical plan that was 0% met at the time and I left another practice in Long Beach because they had strict policies about pre-paying for services months before the baby was born. The staff at Dr. Kizner's office was kind and let me make smaller payments leading up to my due date. But back to the doctor. I chose him because he was local, seemed to have good reviews, and could deliver at Los Alamitos Hospital. Everything went really well at my initial visit with Dr. Kizner. He reviewed all my previous records, addressed any concerns I had, and did a quick ultrasound and confirmed the gender I had been told at the previous office. I left the office feeling good about my choice. But it all went downhill from there. At each subsequent visit, Dr. Kizner became increasingly distant and eventually just seemed like he couldn't stand to be in the room speaking to me. It was very strange. One time I asked a pregnancy related question and he just said, "I don't know," and left it at that. He often began our appointments by stating a fact from my older child's delivery that was a sensitive subject for me and it made no sense why he would continually bring it up. I hesitated to change doctors again so late into my pregnancy, but I wish I had. By the time I delivered, he would hardly make eye contact with me. During my labor, my baby was in distress. My family nervously watched as the heart monitor for my baby kept taking long and frequent dips. My nurses worked frantically to adjust and re-adjust my position and tried all the tricks they knew. All the while Dr. Kizner was hanging out at the nurse's station, from my family's report. He didn't come back into the delivery room to intervene until it was nearly too late. When he did and my baby finally came out, my baby was limp and in respiratory distress. My baby required resuscitation and lots of staff were crowded around working on my baby. It was about 15 minutes until my baby became responsive and began breathing effectively. By the grace of God, my child is doing well today despite being oxygen deprived at birth. If something consistently seems off with your doctor, please don't hesitate to find a new one. For you and for your baby, you won't regret it. read more

I love Dr. Kizner. He was recommended to me by a friend and I was very happy with all my experiences with him. I love how he is the kind of doctor who listens to your concerns, answers all your questions and makes sure you feel comfortable. His staff is super friendly. They always made me feel comfortable and welcome. He delivered my 3rd baby, I had a different doctor for the first two children. I would be happy to go back to him. I don't agree with another reviewer, parking was a total pain, I have to circle around the building to find parking every time I go. That I hated and so with that in mind, try to get to your appointments early so you can find a parking spot. When I had my baby in St. Mary's hospital in Long Beach, all the hospital staff were so excited to see Dr. Kizner, which also proves how well known and liked he is by many. I had the easiest recovery I've ever had with any of my pregnancies. My husband said he did a phenomenal job during the delivery. He cleaned me up very well and got a lot of blood out of me, I know this is a little tmi, but I think it's very important after child birth to know! I think it contributed to the fact that I had such a nice recovery and didn't bleed as much as I did with my first two deliveries. I always felt safe in his care. Thank you Dr. Kizner! read more

I just recently had my first baby in June and Dr Kizner was my OB. I loved him the minute I met him. He's older so he is very kind and was gentle. He explained everything he was doing and never once made me uncomfortable. He was always honest with me and was very patient with me when I asked a million questions (and I asked a lot first baby and all). He answered every single one. I even made a birth plan. And instead of blowing it off he read it and went over everything with me. The staff is incredibly nice. Very warm and welcoming. While I was in labor I was told they were going to have to induce me. I wasn't progressing and I was already ruptured. I was scared and cried I DID NOT want to be induced. He came to my room talked to me explained that he knows it's not what I want and he would not do it unless he had too. In this case he had too. He calmed me down and that helped because having a baby is scary. I would recommend him to anyone who asks and I will be continuing to see him for as long as he is practicing. read more

This was an awful experience. Dr. Kizner is insensitive and arrogant. He would ask questions and not listen to my answers, usually he would interrupt me and answer for me. When asking about my family history, he then acted like he did not feel it was important because my grandma, great grandma, etc... we're not that close to be a concern. There was blood on the chair he sat on for the exam and he had attitude when I stressed a concern I had been having over the years. My last obgyn had requested a follow up and he felt it was unnecessary. While waiting in my gown (undressed underneath), his staff member was yelling on the phone right outside of my room, which created a stressful environment. He even left the exam room door open once when he left and that felt awkward seeing as how I was undressed under my gown on the table. When I inquired about my results or the prescription that he wrote, his assistant could not give me any answers and simply said I should get a call from them. When I inquired how long until I received the call, she was unsure and then said seven to ten days, then with an attitude she said that means business days. When I went to the front desk, they handed me my prescription. It was very confusing. The front desk is very kind and helpful, but the overall experience was "very" uncomfortable. I cried the entire way home and could not wait to shower. I will not return and advise others to look for another doctor. He's availability was wide open and I was desperate, seeing as my work schedule is so confining. I had a bad feeling that being so available was a not a good sign. I called late in the afternoon and was able to get an appointment the next day. Extremely disturbing experience. One star for the front desk, but even that is pushing it. read more
