Dr. Pinches has been my OB/GYN for more than 10 years now, taking me from pre to post menopause. He has performed surgery on my for different issues on two different occasions and both experiences went very smoothly. Over the years, he has been very thorough and is a great listener. I had this doctor for a short time while waiting for my husband's work insurance to kick in. I saw him at the Hawaiian Gardens location. I had a history of stillbirth and the anatomy scan was very important. They scheduled me for an appointment in the 6am hour. Several women were in the waiting room. When I got called back I was given a standard ultrasound but was told it was anatomy. This was my 3rd pregnancy and I knew it wasn't an anatomy scan (it lasted 10 minutes). I contacted my medi-cal insurance to see what kind of ultrasound had been performed. They said the paperwork was for an anatomy scan. The doctor's office falsely charged my insurance for a scan that didn't occur. How many other women and insurances were scammed by this doctor? read more

I went to this place. I waited an hour for a 5 min appointment.Front staff completely rude. I was doing a follow up from an emergency visit. Doctor didn't examine me at all! He just looked at the history gave me pills and that's it. I went to a second opinion and it was bigger than we thought with proper testing. If I took his word it can be much worse now. Dr. Pinches is AMAZING!!! The reason for the 1 star is because his staff is absolutely HORRIBLE!!! When you have a question or a concern , they give you the run around and do not call you back. Even when you call the call-center and they forward your message to the office; ( there is no direct number to the office, your calls are screened by the call-center) the office still won't call you back. Dr. Pinches is a very skilled surgeon, caring doctor and knowledgeable. I've been his patient for 8 years now. I have a severe reproductive disease and he was the only doctor to accurately diagnose me and successfully perform 3 operations on my ovaries, fallopian tubes, pelvic cavity (which ultimately saved my fertility and allowed me to have a baby). Even my fertility doctor was astonished at his surgical skills and how he managed to preserve my ovaries despite the severity of the disease. I am a new patient of Dr. John Pinches, he took me in at 30 weeks preggo and I couldn't be happier with his care for my baby and I. I am so glad that I switched over to him because he actually takes the time to hear you out unlike other OB's. Of course, he is in and out but that's only if you don't have any questions. However, if you have questions he will hear you out. You're not the only patient he is seeing and you gotta remember he is on call whenever someone has to deliver a baby. He is the sweetest, he updates you on baby's growth, and asks if you're taking care of yourself by eating healthy foods, staying hydrated and walking a lot. It's pretty basic stuff and common sense you might think but you'd be surprised at how many OB's do not take the time to share any information with you, especially how you're doing and or following up with you. This doctor is horrible! He was the on call doctor at Anaheim Hospital and I was hemorrhaging internally for a ectopic pregnancy so I needed emergency surgery. Once he arrived he was freaking out how he's not my doctor that he has other places to be and should not have to be doing my surgery. Super rude and pushy because he had to be elsewhere. Not my fault your on call! Completed the surgery didn't think to tell me how it went, no antibiotics or pain meds provided. No discharge instructions on how to care for my incisions. NOTHING! He released me 20 minutes after surgery! I will still sleeping. 3 weeks later never received a follow up call or any instructions. This doctor should not have a license! read more

Zero stars. This office is a complete joke. My wife was scheduled for an ultrasound today at 6:30am at their Hawaiian Gardens location and took the day off work to make it. When we arrived, the door was locked and the parking lot was completely empty except for the two homeless men sleeping right outside their front door. Their main office conveniently doesn't open until 8:30am, so we had to wait two hours to call them. We called and spoke with Yolanda, who lied and said she called my wife and left a voicemail saying the appointment needed to be rescheduled. We did not receive any calls from her, so she clearly pulled the excuse out of thin air. She said she would work on getting an appointment and would call us back. Several hours later, we still had not heard from her. After calling the office several times only to have the line answer, and then immediately hang up, we finally spoke with someone, who could not have cared less. Her excuse was that "oh our office is in the middle of a move". That is not my problem and is not a reason not to do your job. I explained that this was ridiculous and that we've already wasted 5 hours of our day. She laughed condescendingly and said that "well the day isn't over...". This is our first child, and none of the staff cares, they treat their patients like garbage, and act smug when they make a mistake. Avoid this place, DO NOT, ever, go to this office. read more

I love Dr. Pinches! He delivered my first baby in 2018. He's very friendly, always has a smile on his face, easy to talk to and is always ready to answer any questions you have. I felt very comfortable around him and he never made me feel rushed during my doctor's visits. He offered a lot of good and helpful information in regards to my pregnancy. I am going to have my second baby soon but I moved to a different city and unfortunately, I couldn't see Dr. Pinches since I am so far away. My name is Alyssa Smith and I really do hate to leave this review because Dr. Pinches was great to me when I had first child in 2009 but come 2022-2023 I can honestly say I've been left to figure out this new condition alone despite going out of my way to have him as my OBGYN. Last year I had to take the abortion pill due to being pregnant with a fetus that deemed unviable. I came into Los Alamitos medical center extremely weak due to the medication causing me horrible bleeding and cramps; ended up needing surgery due to the chance of the fetus being ectopic which resulted in Dr. Pinches doing a surgery and ultimately it ending up being a cyst that needed to be removed. A couple months later I had to come back because I was still having awful pains and bleeding and still having issues with cysts and cramps. My last appointment with him he prescribed me medication and was supposed to be running my insurance to approve yet another surgery to "thin the lining of my uterus" in hopes it would help. I was supposed to hear back in January and still to this day I haven't heard anything back. Every time I have called this office he is never there, I called to find out why I was still waiting to get this surgery and the lady told me the dr never put in the request to have it done... I have called numerous times about the pain I've been in just for him to tell me that I should go to the emergency room and every time I do the emergency room tells me I need to see my OBGYN which I've explained to every doctor I've seen that he isn't doing anything to help me or push for the answers I need. It's been an entire year of dealing with this condition and every single time I try to explain to Dr. Pinches I'm written off and told my insurance is an issue, he can't prescribe meds because my insurance prevents it (total lie I've spoken to my insurance about all of this), and the very last time I called crying in pain and frustrated from getting no where with this doctor or his staff I was told "this isn't a gyno issue, you need to be referred to pain management". Cysts, pain, and bleeding is absolutely an issue that my gyno should be taking care of, every other doctor I've spoken to has told me the same thing. It is now 2023 and im still figuring out what is going on and trying to get the help I need as I've gotten nowhere with this OBGYN and his staff. Come to find out as of a week ago that this cyst has been bleeding into my abdomen and the veins around my uterus are so swollen it's been cutting off blood flow to other organs. Had this been addressed when I first came to Dr. Pinches I could have avoided a lot of damage and frustration. This doctor didn't care to pay attention to what I was telling him, has so many patients conditions like mine get overlooked and ignored, and every time I saw him i felt rushed and pushed aside. I can't believe the last time I spoke to this man I was told this wasn't an issue he should have to deal with and I should seek a "pain management" doctor to help simply because he didn't want to deal with it. I was ignored so much in my pursuit to get this handled. I was given the run around by him and his terrible office staff and most of all I was caused further damage because of his negligent ways. Please be very careful with this OBGYN. Im currently waiting for my insurance to get me in to see someone else who will take the time to listen, view my imaging, blood results and everything else but unfortunately I'm having to wait 30 days due to just switching to Dr pinches thinking he'd help since he's the one who did my first surgery BIG MISTAKE! I plan to see how bad the damage is and hire an attorney after all of this because it's unbelievable what this man and his office was able to get away with. Please take my advice and be careful. Dr. Pinches delivered my son at the beginning of the year. Many times I waited over an hour past the time of my appointment BUT I always took into consideration that the man was delivering babies left and right. His office is a bit dated and I've seen some sketchy people waiting in the waiting room but his staff is really great. Sherri is the sweetest woman I have ever met. His nurses are wonderful. Yolanda always took the time to make sure I was as happy as I could be through my pregnancy. My birthing experience couldn't have been better. Dr Pinches' plan for my delivery was the best thing that could have happened. You can really tell that he enjoys and is passionate in what he does. If I ever had another baby, I'd choose him again! read more

Dr. Pinches is a good doctor. His staff is terrible. They lost an appointment of mine about a year ago -- I took a day off work from my very new job to make it to this appointment as it was badly needed -- but I showed up to find out the office was closed. The elderly woman at the front desk (Dr. Pinches' mother) said she didn't see any appointment in my chart, neither for today, or any date going forward. I physically watched her write out the appointment and put it in my chart. She just argued. I recently showed up for my appointment at 9am and dressed down in the paper outfit they give you. I sat there for an hour before he finally came in, rushed through everything (with a student watching over his shoulder -- this is a regular occurrence) and rushed out within five minutes. My needs were not addressed. In fact, they were brushed off with a generic excuse. I understand he had to rush off to deliver a baby, and that's what I want him to do, that's 110% more important. But I never feel I get any time with the doctor at this office, and have been coming here for 2+ years. I feel I need a doctor who has more time. So nothing against Dr. Pinches, he's doing his job well. I just need a different doc. Regarding the students watching over his shoulder... I get that this is a standard thing they do in the medical field (I come from the medical field), but I personally was uncomfortable having not one, not two, but three students watching over Dr. Pinches' shoulder the *first time* I had a pap smear here. I wasn't asked whether that would be okay with me, they just showed up and he started giving them a lesson. Having a history of sexual abuse, I'm a bit sensitive in this area, and would have appreciated some preparation or asking my consent for that. Just so I had a heads up. I don't think that's much to ask. Every time I've been in for an exam/pap smear, there's been a student watching. I don't know if it's because he's male, so he has a female present to like, be a safe person or something? No idea. Even having a medical assistant in the room would be less awkward, I'm kind of used to that -- they help set everything up and help with the exam. But these students stand there awkwardly, watching, and hand him the lube when he asks for it. Anyway. I've been trying for a year to switch to a new OB/Gyn but my primary care doctors keep fighting me about it. I don't get it. The rest of the staff at this office is disorganized and argumentative. I called in last week asking if they had record of a specific test having been done for me, and haven't heard back. It usually takes about two months to get a response from anyone in that office, and its going to be confusing and they're going to do their best to not give me what I need. Love this OB! This day and age the wait time doesn't bother me because lets face it everywhere you go is busy. And also he is an OB and often times he'll have to run to the hospital in the middle of work to deliver a baby which is 100% expected. He delivered our daughter 10/28/2008 and this March he'll deliver our next daughter and I couldn't be happier! A single Dr. Practice, was what I believe to be the most inimate care. I have been a patient for 3-4 years. I was never completely satisfied with the service, finding a new Dr. was a bigger task then Dr. Pinches once a year check up. Recently I changed my birth control method. This requires me I to come every 12 weeks. While Dr. Pinches is friendly and approachable, his practice lacks professionalism. Adminstrative and clinical staff have proven to be nice, but their lack of organizational skills is eminent. Dr. Pinches is always in a hurry when in the exam room. He is definitely NOT in a hurry to come see you after lunch. I have never been seen within 30 minutes of my scheduled appointment. Today my appointment was at 1:20pm. I arrived at 1:18pm to find the office closed. After a telephone conversation with the elder woman, she stated "staff is at lunch, come back at 1:30". I expressed my disappointment, this appointment was scheduled to receive a Depo shot and will not be more than 20 minutes. I informed the office I only had 30 minutes to spare as I had to return to work. One of the clinical staff responded with "Dr. Pinches needs to see you before I can give you the shot and he is not here yet." She takes me back in to the room, and said as soon as he comes in he'll see you then I can administer the medication. Waited for another 20 minutes but Dr. Pinches was not in sight, at 1:49pm I left the office without treatment and very diasplointed in their lack of kindness and respect. Today I decided Dr. Pinches does not deserve my business. In today's world I am a dollar, so I will have to pick who to give my dollar to. I'm a mother, I'm a sister, I'm an aunt, I am your patient treat me with kindness and respect. read more

Let me first start out by saying I read the reviews on Dr. Pinches (as there are mixed reviews) but I'm a firm believer in forming my own opinions, so with that said, I went into my first visit with no expectations. I myself am huge on front office etiquette, and I must say I was very pleased with not just my first visit but all visits. ALL of Dr. Pinches staff is very professional & even more so, warming & welcoming. It's hard to have favorites; but I would say his Mother is definitely held high up there :) now moving on to Dr. Pinches himself, I found him to be in high spirits, attentive, understanding and listened to any of my concerns attentively. Dr. Pinches was a good doctor overall. All doctors have good points and bad points, and I would like to paint you as honest a picture as I can, so here is my take: First, Dr. Pinches runs a single doctor practice. So expect that you will wait from time to time. Babies come when they come, you know? He is usually decently on time as far as it goes though. Second, the office staff is a-okay. Do they get ovr worked at times? Yes. Do they have their fair share of cookiness? Yes. Will they treat you poorly if you treat them poorly? I don't know. I made an extra effort to be kind, and they reciprocated. Do you want to do a vbac? In my opinion, good luck. Dr. Pinches will concede if you push hard enough, but he REALLY doesn't want to, and so will make it difficult. Just don't count on doing a vbac. This really bumbed me out in the end, because I thought that I would be going that route... but alas, a repeat C. Dr. Pinches has a pretty friendly disposition. He is is a hurry, but he does his job. In my experience with him, if you prove yourself to be moderately competent and knowledgeable, he will respond well and treat you respectfully. Dr. Pinches just did my c esction. He did an excellent job, was attentive and quick. If I could, I'd give the experience overall a 3.5, but will go up to a four rather than down to a three. read more

I spoke with a couple of OBs before selecting Dr. Pinches. First off, his staff was very courteous to me and I felt welcomed. Second, his two offices were close to both my home and my office. Lastly, and most importantly, his answers were right on point. He was very open minded, had good bedside manner to make me feel less nervous, shared with me his confidence is great suturing (if there was a tear during the birth), and promised he would be there to deliver my daughter. He overall focused on the health of mom and baby at all costs. I trusted him and he delivered on every level. My daughter was born with my birthplan in mind, he placed my stitches seamlessly, and followed up on me as needed. He was always positive and kind. I can't say my experience with Dr. Pinches was horrible but it just wasn't good. He had three other Med students with him during the exam which I agreed was fine but he had them give me the exam. Very uncomfortable!! I also had the breast cancer gene test done and it took them 1 1/2 years to give me my results (I actually had to go in to get them). I called numerous times for the results but I was always told they would call me back and then nothing. The office staff is not the greatest, nice but soooo unorganized. He is a busy doctor, his practice is centered around pregnancy and babies, so if there is a wait, I know he is dealing with someone who is really needing medical care. I am a new patient so I arrived around 9:40 for my 10am women's wellness appt to fill out paper work and what have you. Pretty easy location to find off freeway so the convenience factor was key for me. Staff is nice but seemed unorganized. Waiting room filled up quickly. Not until 10:45 did the nurse take me back into the exam room. She was nice but her broken English made me nervous for fear there might be some miscommunication about critical medical details. Dr. Pinches came into the room around 11. Exam was quick. I've never had a male examiner--he was professional and the female nurse stayed in the room the entire time so I never felt uncomfortable. I wanted to get my blood drawn and they were able to do it right in the office. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to wait in the room so I went toward the waiting room and Dr. Pinches promptly made sure I was taken care of. Checked out with an older woman who thought I was a different patient so I had to correct her. Again, nice woman but seemed confused/disorganized which is worrisome at a doctors office where I am getting blood drawn and getting a crucial check-up! They told me to call a week from my appt to get my results or find out if there were any abnormalities. Never heard of that before but I suppose it gives me the authority so I don't have to anxiously await a phone call. Parking is in a structure--$3 for 2 hours or $5 for day parking. There was a line to leave structure and I was 2 minutes until hour 2 struck. Would've been pissed if I had to pay extra just based on the principle that I was at the office for 2 full hours for a 15 minute exam. Overall I trust the doc but the disorganization of the office as a whole left me feeling a bit confused and uneasy. read more

I am blessed to have Dr. Pinches as my doctor. Not only is he brilliant, dedicated, and professional but also compassionate, patient, understanding, and thorough. Even though he has so many patients, he addresses every single thing you want to talk about during your appointment without making you feel rushed.
