Rotary Beach - Doogie says " but why can't dogs go on the beach?"

This afternoon we had a lovely walk to rotary Beach and back. Bay Road from King St to Rotary Beach…read more is very much a hill, so I always plan my walk based on if I want an uphill exercise walk or a down hill drift. Today was a down hill drift enjoying the musical sound of the little creek in flood that parallels the road. (Bay Road is one way is one way, if you are driving access it from the Marina not Kings St.) Located at the bottom of the hill, to the west of the Gananoque Marina on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, is Rotary Beach, a tiny sand beach area. The shore has been protected from erosion by large rock and there is just a shallowly sloping canoe or kayak launch area to access the water. There is a lovely roofed seating area and lots of sand on shore. In the summer swimming is possible here although this location is a better spot for wading or launching a canoe and/or kayak. Parking is readily available. The closest washrooms are at the Gananoque Marina, within walking distance. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. There are no waste containers but this is still a very clean beach.

My iPhone Maps direction sent us down a restricted dirt road from the main Route. The 4…read morespace-parking was for authorized vehicles only. There was no parking on the road; however, if you go a little further the marina has parking. The 6 ft. beach was muddy and the water still with marina boats close by. There is a sign reading, " Not recommended for swimming". There was a good picnic area with gazebo and picnic table but we came to this public beach for swimming. There was a much better beach around the marina a few blocks across. This Gananoque Town beach had toilets, showers, a roped off swimming area, and even kayak rentals. So my advice is to ask someone at the marina were the big beach is.
