Ate here for lunch. Greeted by a most friendly waitress. Old fashioned diner, cozy and colorful atmosphere. I ordered a salad with cranberry chicken salad, cup of Portuguese soup and my dining mate ordered the chicken pot pie. Food was basic, homestyle and we thought mediocre in taste. The soup was bland, my salad, basic iceberg with 2 wedges of tomato and 2 rings of onion.The chicken salad okay. The pot pie had little chicken in it and not overly flavorful. However we saw what others had ordered for breakfast and that looked good. Prices on par . When we were ready to leave our waitress brought a container of lollipops to our table and offered we should take one for ourselves. I moved to Taunton in 2012 and first place I stopped in was Joe's Diner. It reminded me of days gone bye when I was a kid going to the old diner's with my grandfather.. they welcomed me and made me feel at home. My wife and I went to joes dinner this morning, honestly it was an amazing experience, the food was great, I got a 2 egg combo, 2 eggs scrambled, home fries, sausage and toast. Eggs were scrambled perfectly, the sausage had so much flavor and the home fries were seasoned amazingly. I also got a pancake on the side that tasted great it wasn't too fluffy or filling like others and was just really enjoyable. The inside is very old school and really brings you back, decorated with older signs on the wall, just the real diner experience. The owner was very friendly and our server did a great job, even letting us take 2 of their mugs home, and I will add that unlike other places if you ordered a flavored milk they really mix it well. I haven't been here in years... many years. Live in east taunton and drive by all the time. Checked the Yelp reviews and thought let's try it- I've gotten tired of most of the breakfast places around here. Really cute interior. Parking lot is a bit of a mess (not paved) but not eating outside - didn't care even in the rainy conditions . Service was great and food was good. Neither my daughter or myself eat eggs- but the hoe fries were fantastic (I asked for mine well done and usually I don't get my hopes up a place actually can do it- they did it perfectly!!) my daughter loved her home fries and m&m pancake. I got a polo with sausage- really sausage links that were sliced and grilled- not the frozen patty stuff. Will return with my more discerning eggs eating family members and update my review at that point. read more

Classic! Everything about this place screams old school, solid breakfast. The place is tiny but sit at the counter if you can. From there, you can watch your breakfast being made fresh from scratch right in front of you. They have those thick ceramic coffee mugs, which I love and like to believe it means you're going to get a delicious breakfast (and hopefully good coffee too)! On our last visit, I ordered eggs over easy, sausage links, home fries and wheat toast. My husband got a breakfast sandwich, home fries and french toast. There are no frills, no gimmicks, no fancy anything here. Just straight up real, good food cooked the way it's supposed to be by hardworking people doing it right in front of their customers (at the counter). Everything we ordered came out just right - my home fries were well seasoned, eggs over easy cooked perfectly, toast amply buttered and sausage nicely charred. A-OK diner - 4 stars for the old school diner car (don't see classics like these much anymore) and 3-stars for the solid diner fare. It was nice to see the place humming with the lunch crowd (lots of local regulars here!) and take-out biz ... but in spite of that, wait service was prompt and brisk. We had standard menu items: grilled cheese, BLT, tuna melt, fries. My tuna melt though, was just a tuna salad sandwich toasted on the grill with no cheese (though tasty, it wasn't really a melt) and my iced tea was unconscionably sweet that I had to ask for a glass of ice water to dilute it sufficiently. But nevertheless, it's a fun place to grab a quick and inexpensive meal and enjoy the timeless ambiance. read more

What can I say. A throwback to an old classic. Great grub and even better people. I think that is what really did it for us. The waitress was probably the best waitress I've had in my whole life. She was there topping off coffee, asking if we wanted blueberries or chocolate chips on our pancakes and just being a real person. Great experience here. The waitress was friendly and helpful. We got a seat right away (10am) but soon after people had to wait (but not for long). Food was quick and tasty and quite affordable. I'm only giving it four stars because this place has like no seating or I should say it can be hard to find one and that can be a little stressful but once you get in and find a seat it's worth it. Best breakfast joint i've been to by far. Everyone is so welcoming, and just by visiting for my first time I was able to see that every customer is like family to them. We were sat at the bar since it was so busy, but totally understandable since I was not only able to see every food item I ordered get made right in front of me, but was also able to see the use of fresh ingredients such as farm fresh eggs, and bacon cooked any way you like! And everything came out in a timely manner and cooked to perfection even though it was an extremely busy and stressful time! And to finish it off a nice woman (I believe to be the owner) let us pick out some lollipops to take home! Also not expensive at all!! It was amazing, Not only was the food good very good, the place was immaculate, but the employees were GREAT !!! Pleasant, professional, and right on top of our needs. The prices are more than reasonable and what I loved I could get small portions of everything offered. Example - a single piece of French toast. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. The menu is very encompassing. I could not think of anything you would want that was not on the menu. The way they treated my friends son was incredible. They treated him like a king. They gave him a toy car to play with as well as a lollipop and on the way out a tiny cup of M&Ms. Because of the way he was treated we had a relaxing meal which is sometimes difficult with a toddler. I'd give this a three for food and a five for ambiance, service, and overall "diner-ness". Should have ordered the pancakes. My daughter's blueberry pancakes were delicious. Coffee was hot and good. My scrambled eggs were rather overdone and I didn't care for their rather greasy version of linguica. Husband's eggs were fine, he said. But the service was friendly and fairly fast when busy (Memorial Day morning) and that makes up for a fair amount. Loved the local color and accents, lots of locals. We may have been the only non-locals, passing through a little off the beaten track after reading reviews on Yelp. On the way to the restaurant you'll pass "The World's Largest Milk Bottle" which is an amusing bit of Americana. Did not try it. First, my 4 star rating instead of a 5 is mainly because I haven't had a consistent experience with this place. Sometimes it's AWESOME, and sometimes it's just really really good. It's never bad. Absolutely nowhere near terrible. But the service and staff, atmosphere, etc... it changes depending on when you go and who's working. Generally though... this place is absolutely AWESOME. The food is the tastiest breakfast food you'll ever have in your life. The perfect diner food. The best part is... it's cheap. Insanely cheap. An average hearty breakfast will cost you less than 5 bucks. Most of the time, the service is fast. Like I said, there's a reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5... because sometimes the service is... not so fast at all. Sometimes the server will be absolutely on the case and take your order immediately, and you'll get it rather quick. And... sometimes the server will take their sweet time and overlook you. It's a fluctuating experience. The people who work there are ALWAYS friendly though, no matter what experience I've had with service on a particular day or night. The only one major con I have about this place is... It's honestly an enigma. What I mean by that is, good luck trying to find out when they're open! At the current moment, Yelp doesn't even have the hours added... and it's no surprise. I can honestly never find out when this place is suppose to be open or not. I'm sure they have the hours on the doors... but they aren't always right either. This place is like some sort of magical entity that just suddenly appears out of nowhere with that feeling of Christmas morning. When you find out it's open, it's like the most amazing thing ever happened. I swear, I've been to the place at the same time they've been open one night... and I'll go back again and it'll be closed the next. I say night though when I really do mean early morning. Sometimes the only way to visit this place is extremely early in the morning, sometime after midnight. Other times they'll open a little bit earlier. And sometimes it'll be after 7am. I can tell you for a fact when they are always open... at around 1-2am on a friday night. They're a hotspot for all of the people on their way home from the bar. And this is when the place gets EXTREMELY busy like you've never seen a diner be before. It gets so bad the place actually needs a bouncer to manage the flow of customers in and out of the door. Seriously. The place also gets a lot of the drunks, which means the place needs that same bouncer to sometimes kick out disruptive customers. You would almost think this is some sort of VIP lounge with the way people are allowed in and out. Chances are if you're alone, you'll skip right through and be able to enter and find a seat. If you're in a party of 3 or more, you'll have to wait. Overall... this is the best diner I've ever been to. I just wish I knew when they opened and closed... regardless of when they claim to be opened and closed. read more

I am so angry! Seriously mad at myself that I have driven by this diner so many times and didn't stop in until today. I have been looking to try out places i've never been and so I decided that I would try out Joe's Diner. I pulled into the parking lot, which is a fairly decent size and parked. I walked in and sat down at one of the stools. Right in front of the cook. The waiter was wicked friendly and asked what I wanted to drink right away. My coffee was in front of me in less than a minute! I ordered french toast,home-fries and bacon. It wasn't long until i had 2 plates in front of me with one of the most delicious breakfasts i've ever had. (Honestly, i am a home-fry snob and am hardly ever 100% happy with ordering them out) but these were mouth watering!! The bacon was cooked to perfection and the french toast....what can I say ...EPIC!!! Cooked perfectly, sprinkled with confectionary sugar and a big scoop of butter on top!! The waiter refilled my coffee (free refill) and asked how everything was. Also, it was like Cheers. Every time someone walked in they would say hello by name. The cook was funny and joked around with the staff and customers. I loved sitting in front of the grill. Everything i watched him make looked awesome. Your traditional all American breakfast can be found here and the waiters are flexible to adjust your order. Inconsistent. This is always first on our list when we get a morning together and go out to breakfast. But its hit or miss. And lately it's been more miss. When you order food a certain way your expect for it to be made that way. Why bother ordering eggs or medium to have them over easy and barely cooked. Why order French toast plain and stress not having powdered sugar or cinnamon on the top to only have it served covered with the stuff. Just disappointed. The service is also doing down hill fast. Waited 10 minutes for a drink order and another 20 for food. And to wait 20 minutes for food and still have it be undercooked is unacceptable. read more

My sister happened to be in town this -year- and we decided to meet up in Taunton somewhere for lunch before she drove back to Georgia. After scouting Yelp I decided that a good point to meet was Joe's. The info said it was good for groups... I would like to say that it's not really. Unless you're going there at 3am with a group. At 2pm it wasn't that great. There are little signs at each table that request no more than two people per party during busy hours... sorry, we were a party of 8 (and an infant) and this was our first time there. There is no website or section in the Yelp description suggesting a party-limit. The hostess, waitress, and subsequently the cook (who poked his head out every 20 minutes) didn't seem too pleased that we were there, in fact, I can't even remember one smile from any of them. Maybe this is regular diner-etiquette? I don't know. I do know, however, that the only loud one of the bunch was my one and a half year old daughter, and even that was seldom, so I don't know where the unpleasantness came from. The food wasn't bad. The price was even better. After seeing the 'inconvenience' my group had caused I decided to leave a very large (we're talking over half the total of the bill) tip in hopes that maybe that waitress would give someone else a smile at least once today. She was extremely considerate for bringing out a small toy dinosaur that my son left behind... it was so small that most people wouldn't have made the effort to bring it to the parking lot. I appreciated that greatly. I'm not saying that I was unsatisfied but I was little iffy. Since I don't live in the area I doubt I'd go out of my way to eat there again but if I find myself hungry, in the area, and with a smaller party, I might stop by. read more
