Good Polish cold cuts! It's worth the money........................................................................................

This is a mixed review. I'm Polish, and I've turned away from European Provisions in Old Bridge which I've gone to for years. That and I come up from Asbury Park to take care of our Easter provisions. So, while Joe's smoked and fresh Kielbasy was spot on, the kabonasy was as good as it gets. My review is a star short as the pierogis I was directed to in the case were 'cheese only'. I love farmers cheese. My family was less than enthused and were looking for potato, with the woman (I presume one of the owners) directing me to the case as I asked for potato (there were but 3 packages left). My bad for not reading the label and I wasn't really happy with her not being straight up with me. The other issue I had was with their Babka. Virtually no raisins in it, and on the dry side. Bummer. Caveat emptor come next year. read more

As authentic as it gets. Highly highly recommend the stuffed cabbage, a true delicacy. The staff let us sample some delicious pastries and freshly made snacks. Everything was wood smoked in house with an assortment of traditional woods. We finally decided on double-smoked kielbasa which was hanging fresh behind the counter. Thank goodness we got two, the first was gone before we got home! You can really taste the authentic wood-smoked flavor. We grabbed some spaetzle and sauerkraut stew and made the most delicious Polish Bigos stew for dinner. read more

I want to be a contrarian here and say something like "oh Joe's is okay, but xxxx is even MORE obscure and only cooler people know about it". But I'm not feeling hipster today, and I can't in good faith even say that. Joe's Meat Market IS the place for kielbasy/kielbasa/Polish sausages to go to in....pretty much the whole country and the US is pretty big. I don't think I'm telling to the Polish community anything they don't already know about this place so this review is for those out of the loop. They have the most authentic, appropriately spiced kielbasies of any place I know or have ever been to including Poland. From meat tasting kielabasies, to caraway and meat tasting kielabasies, to garlic and meat tasting kielabasies, to caraway, garlic, and meat tasting kielabasies and so on. Also degrees of smokiness dictate kielbasy flavor. If may not sounds like a lot of combinations, but you could literally make 100s of these combos. And I know my mood changes, but I always know exactly the kielbasy I'm in the mood for! They have other Eastern European provisions and magazines and stuff so if you want to practice your Polish, here you go! read more

My mother shopped at Joe's decades ago when she lived in New Jersey, and now that I live in the New York area, I stop there on my way home each holiday to stock up on the proper provisions. If there is better kabonasy to be found in the US or Poland, I haven't found it yet. read more

Just walking into this meat market bring you to Poland where the Kielbasa is being made and smoked on the premises. This is an old country style market, and it seems like things haven't changed much since it opened in 1976. Meats are hangin,on hooks, shelves are filled with everything Slovak. Jars and jars of pickled everything, plus herring, preserves, cookies, candies, sauces, soup mixes, bottled beverages, honey, grains, spices. There's even something called cheese salami mixed in with several kinds of farmer chees in the fridge. There is fresh rye bread, bacon and smoked salmon and my favorite, Souse. Souse is a form of head cheese - a gelled loaf made with pig's ears, feet and tongues. This is just heavenly. As for kielbasas ($5.99-$7.99 per pound), if you don't know what you want, you can ask Olga and she will walk you through the line of meat. The texture -- sausages come finely ground to country coarse. If you like it soft, you can choose from lightly smoked or high power. Another kind has chunks of pork and is good for the grill, I can't even get to the paprika-rubbed bacon or cut-to-order pork chops, among others items. I also love the veal hot dogs OMG they are good. Grill them up and put them on a WAWA shorty roll with sauted onions, peppers and potatoes and yellow mustard Now I am hungry again. Olga and Paulina are the ladies behind the counter and if you do not speak any Polish, well have fun as I do. I think they play with you. But my order is never wrong. Bottom line is that Joe's meats are old-world worthy, and the long line of customers prove maybe we too should slow down and go out of our way for the very real deal. read more

Yea, this place has the goods. You walk into a room of hanging death. They have smoked, twice smoked, and triple smoked sausage right when you walk in on the left. There is literally meat everywhere. I'd love to take an unsuspecting vegan in here and videotape their reaction. Some of the sausage is as thick and long as a grown man's arm. I went before a Giants game a few weeks ago and was totally lost as to what I should get. Like I said, there is meat EVERYWHERE. The girls at the counter were super helpful, and as soon as I said grill they hooked me up with the right kielbasa. Thing is, I like kielbasa, but I usually just get tyson from costco. I know nothing about real kielbasa. What do I know now? Tyson is garbage, and this is what you need. I can't wait to go back and try the other kinds/styles. After the meat buffet for the eyes, the rest of the store is kinda crappy. Very bodega-esq, the shelves looked old. There was lots of pickles just kinda sitting in a heap waiting to get picked up. They had perogies, but they were not made there. There was stuffed cabbage, but stuffed with pork- which i guess makes sense for a kielbasa place, but just seems strange to me. read more

it is not the food to put down , if you get your food without a huge hassle it is good. i do not reccomend having items they sell there deleivered to your home.,the one women who takes and is in charge of the orders, must be related to owners, i cannot see any other way she remains working there.twice i ordered keilbassey from them deleivered to my home. she does not like questions. i had to call back 3 times to place my order. the first time a man answered and asked i call back as this women is the only one doing orders to home of products. then when i got her on the phone finally i had to call back as she was busy. finally ordered my ring of keilbassy, shes in a rush, tells me she will call for deleivery date, days go by, finally my order shows up. no warning phone call mind you. it comes in a bag that looks like she pulled it out ofthe garbage, i did not even know it was my order as it lokked like it was a garbage bag, i call her back, she goes on flipping out how i am a lousy customer as i call and ask where and when my order is coming.as she never did call to tell me when. in course of her triade agaisnt lousy customer me, she blurts out..........but i texted you. oh really my phone is not a cell, but a landline which she never asked. could that be why, 2 years in a row, i never knew when my order was coming. could i really have a reason to be upset with her. i will not even eat the food as i do not know how long it was sitting at our condo office, and looks as though it is wrapped in a old garbage bag last year she sent me the total wrong order, but to her that was my fault too. go thereto eat , go buy your stuff for home, but do not deal with her or her horrible deleivery ways.iwant my money bck as i am scared to eat this product.now it will be in the garbarge. i have polish pride. 1 star read more

I grew up eating meats, kielbasa from Joe's. There is no other kielbasa in my eyes. I've tried many local places in South Amboy, South River, Sayreville, etc and they don't come close. I also get my fresh cut pork for stuffed cabbage here as grocery stores no longer cut fresh pork...it's all pre-packaged. During the holidays come early because the line is out the door. The variety of products here is enormous.....from fresh smoked , Polish donuts/cakes, pierogis, to imported Polish foods. It's truly an experience as you walk in the door to the intoxicating smell of smoked meats! read more

I've been going here for years. Every Easter, Christmas and summer grilling season. Walked in yesterday and the place looked and felt different. More spacious, organized, etc. I bought 2 Kielbasas; but found that the mothers cheese I usually buy was not in stock. Neither was the borscht concentrate I buy there. I think there are new owners as non of the helps faces were familiar. Time will tell read more

We have an addiction for this place so far everything is the best! Sausage kielbasa pierogi pickles all the different grades of smoked flavor that is perfect! I especially love the less fatty kielbasa. Larger meat chunks so yummy! We were told by the nice women there to cook the pierogi with bacon and onions. We did that was perfection! Ty. Step back 50 years to a simpler time when artists actually cared about food prep. This Polish Butcher Shop is the real deal. No frills just quality fare. The liverwurst is killer. The Dried Kielbasa was on point. I did not cook the fresh Kielbasa yet but plan on grilling it soon Also bought a Kishka for my MIL and will try that soon as well. My family has been getting kielbasa from Joe's Meat Market since the 70's, they have the best selection in the North East.

My father was one of the original customers when this store opened, it is the best kielbasa in the world. Food is always fresh. Store is clean. And I honestly believe that heaven has to smell like Joe's Meat Market! The staff is always nice - no matter if you can speak a polish or not. This is the coolest place to visit and shop. Perth Amboy, a city that has seen many waves of immigrants, used to have a very big polish population, and they still have a good group of people in town..that this shop caters to. There are polish magazines and products, all types of mustards, chocolates, teas, sauces, noodles. Both the customers and servers speak polish here! Now let's get to the meat!!! The place smells delicious, the ordor of the many varieties of kielbasa hanging from the wall makes you hungry . You can get smooth or chunk kielbasa, I like both. You can get a big ring or small..I think the big ring is 8 dollars. Ask questions, the servers will help you learn all you need to know to get something good. They have slim dried sausages too, like the best slimjim you ever had. I also love the polish hot dogs..get chicken or veal..they are knock out good big dogs perfect for impressing at a bbq. Disgusting place!!! Dont buy anything there!!! The store is dirty and poorly kept, totally disorganized. A lot of expired products on the shelves. The kielbasy and cold cuts are kept in horrific conditions and half of it looks spoiled, same goes for cheeses. The raw meat is handled next to the cold cuts..... The only sales girl is totally not friendly and uses LATEX hospital gloves to cut cold cuts that looked like the were used for at least a week.......dont shop there for the sake of your health! Joe's Meat Market has gone downhill ever since Joe, the original owner retired. Joe made and smoked the kielbasa and the other meats and was absolutely the best anywhere. I was there recently and bought kielbasa and other meats. When Joe was still there, his kielbasa was so juicy and delicious that I could have eaten the whole ring as soon as I got home. But when I got home this last time, I tried the kielbasa and other products. The kielbasa was dry and tasteless. Disgusting! I also bought meatloaf, also made at the store. It used to be so delicious when Joe was there. When I tasted the meatloaf this last time, it was dried up and did not taste right. Embarrassing! i called to order somethings from them for my dad who lives in calif hes polish and hasnt been there in 57 years the lady has helped me out so much she made a box it was sousposed to get there wed it got lost so she called my dad to tell him boy was he suprized i dont her but she is a true angel i will order from them again read more
