1 dozen each of cheese and cheese/sauerkraut. My 101 year old aunt loved them!

Wow, this place is a trip and a half. Make sure to preorder, as everything seems to be made to order. I bought two dozen pierogies today, and my soon to be 102 year old aunt said they're the best she's ever had!

Potatoe and Cheese with no cheese

Let me start by saying I really wanted to love this establishment as it is family owned and run, but I just can't give it a better review. Stopped in on a Saturday around 11 am. The owners daughter runs the shop, she told me that mom is never their. She was making the dough so that part is super fresh and seems to be made daily. Asked for 1 dozen potato & cheese (P&C) and 1 dozen potato & spinach (P&C). Was asked if I could come back around 330 pm. as no Pierogies were made as of yet . Came back at 330, and the same daughter was working. Still needed to wait another 20 minutes as my Pierogies weren't even started. Pierogies were made, so again nice n fresh. All sounds good, except the wait, but here are the main issues: the spinach was a frozen bag microwaved to defrost than mixed into the potatoes, so not fresh at all. No cheese was added in for the P&C Pierogies. The potato tasted like it came from a box. No seasoning added, very bland. After the Pierogies are boiled, they are doused into melted butter before being boxed up. This made them greasy. I heated them in a frying pan to crisp them up. The store is take out only and not the cleanest I have been to. Sadly, i will not be back.

Very nice staff. Great pierogis but call early or your selection will be limited. They have specials, like potato pancakes on Wednesdays.

This Polish food is dangerously good. Like "someone's grandma is in the back judging portion sizes"…read moregood. Everything tastes 100% made from scratch, no shortcuts, no funny business. I'm not Polish, but if you were lucky enough to grow up with a nona (or any grandmother who showed love through food), this place will hit that same comfort food nerve regardless of your background. You don't need to know what everything is called, you just need to trust the process. The potatoes? Unreal. Perfectly cooked, seasoned like they knew me personally. As for the other two mysterious balls on the plate... no clue what they're called, but I do know they disappeared fast and I regret not ordering more. That's all the science I need. This spot is tucked in the back of a deli, which honestly makes it even better. Tons of imported Polish goods up front, and then boom, comfort food heaven hiding in the rear like a secret level in a video game. And the ladies working there? Absolute sweethearts. One big smile, genuinely welcoming, and clearly proud of what they're serving, as they should be. Come hungry. Leave full. Accept that you will be back.

For Linden, an old-fashioned town situated along the popular Northeast Corridor commuter train, it is a hub for immigrants--home to some of the best Polish cuisine. Since 2001, this establishment has been translated from the Polish meaning "mermaid" and "symbol of Warsaw," so I decided on Syrena Polish Deli, which is located at Linden Center. Upon entering, it was a bit overwhelming as the cozy, clean, cool interior features a grocery store with everything Polish, like canned sauerkraut, mustards, jellies, etc., a deli, and hot food to go. Step toward the back where one finds everything from pierogies to kielbasa; every bite showcases the authentic flavors of Poland. That is where I decided on takeout as a first-timer. Their menu changes daily. I went for the Pork Stuffed Cabbage Golabki and Coleslaw. The food was authentic, well seasoned, tastefully delicious, and remained hot. The staff was friendly. The price was comparable to the area. Can't wait for a repeat performance, which I can recommend.

(The last time I was in Rahway?  A college field trip to the prison for a class 'History of…read morePunishment' - but that's a blog post sometime in the future over on Medium.) Yelp tipped me off about this place so right before Christmas I ventured down to snag their novelty 'Pierogi Soap on a Rope' (stocking stuffers for the Polish in-laws!) and of course I couldn't leave without at least trying a few of their actual edible items. "Polish Happy Meal" (great name geared towards us Americans, huh?) - killer.  A hearty (sliced) link of kielbasa with three (delicious) pierogi with little containers of horseradish & shredded beets (along with a slice of rye bread) and a side (of course we went with their [homemade] pickles). The Mrs. (from Gdańsk and snooty about her Polish grub) was deliriously giddy with her meal and deemed it, "5 stars!" - who am I to argue?! "Apple Pie-rogi" (I'm definitely digging their marketing department!) - although they recommend to fry in butter (the only way the Poles believe a pierogi can be cooked!) I opted to just bake them without any added fat (much to the chagrin of the Mrs.) but it was still a perfectly delicious morsel. The joint is wheelie small (sorry, I couldn't help myself) - just a tiny window to "grab 'n go" from the workers. Crew behind the sliding glass window - very cool. Pricing - more than fair for the portion size. You bet your dupa I highly recommend this place.

Food is from the mountainous region of Poland. If you like Polish cuisine, this place would…read moreinterest you. The menu requires some knowledge of Polish food with some offerings being familiar while others may require some exploration. We were two couples dining on a weekday evening. Two people had plum stuffed pork which was very good, one had the pork loin and broccoli which was also good. I had the schnitzel which was not to be confused with German or Austrian schnitzel. It was two small loaves of a mix of beef and pork which resembled more of a meatloaf. It was a bit bland but satisfactory. It came with mashed potatoes. Several sides of Polish sauerkraut, beet salad, and what appeared to be a fermented carrot salad were included. We shared an appetizer platter of pirogies, kielbasa, and something I couldn't identify, but it was all very tasty. This is not BYOB because they have a full bar. The ambiance has a Bavarian flavor and is squeaky clean and neat. The food is hearty and flavorful im what I would describe as peasant style. The service is excellent as they seem to want you to have a good experience. Reservations are required on weekends.

It was my time to expose my friend group to Polish cuisine, and boy is this the place to do it! We were immediately greeted by the authentic decor, furniture, and outdoor space of a Highlander restaurant in Poland. The furniture is hand carved and there are outfits and decorations straight from the motherland. You feel like you are in your grandmother's home- and in a good way! There is something to look at and admire around every corner. Our waitress was so welcoming and patient while we decided on a variety of orders. She greeted us with a warm smile, gave us plenty of time to select from the menu, and provided top-notch recommendations. The food - don't get me started. This is as good, if not better, than what I eat in Poland. We tried soups (the żurek- sour, but not overwhelming, well presented in a bread bowl, and with delicious boiled egg- and the red barszcz- a tangy beet soup), a "sampler platter" with gołąbki (mini stuffed cabbage with tomato sauce for pouring to your liking), and grilled kielbasa. We also opted for the rye bread, lard, and half sour pickles. Sounds odd, but don't knock it till you try it! It's not what you expect, very rich and filling. For my entrée, I had a thinly sliced breaded pork cutlet with mashed potatoes on the side and "mizeria" (Polish side salad with cucumbers, dill, and sour cream). It was so fresh and light. I loved it because it reminded me of summers with my grandma. The drinks were colorful, well presented, and strong! Definitely worth their $12+ price. Overall, this spot is a hit. There is plenty of parking on the street or across the street at the library. Everything from the service, ambiance, presentation, to the freshness and taste of the food was top-notch. This is the spot to visit if you want real Polish food. We will be coming back!
