Let me start by saying I really wanted to love this establishment as it is family owned and run, but I just can't give it a better review. Stopped in on a Saturday around 11 am. The owners daughter runs the shop, she told me that mom is never their. She was making the dough so that part is super fresh and seems to be made daily. Asked for 1 dozen potato & cheese (P&C) and 1 dozen potato & spinach (P&C). Was asked if I could come back around 330 pm. as no Pierogies were made as of yet . Came back at 330, and the same daughter was working. Still needed to wait another 20 minutes as my Pierogies weren't even started. Pierogies were made, so again nice n fresh. All sounds good, except the wait, but here are the main issues: the spinach was a frozen bag microwaved to defrost than mixed into the potatoes, so not fresh at all. No cheese was added in for the P&C Pierogies. The potato tasted like it came from a box. No seasoning added, very bland. After the Pierogies are boiled, they are doused into melted butter before being boxed up. This made them greasy. I heated them in a frying pan to crisp them up. The store is take out only and not the cleanest I have been to. Sadly, i will not be back. read more

Heard that Pierogi Palace was good. I was getting some to take back to California. I stopped in around 9:30 am. Pierogies were being made. I was told they would be ready about noon. So I placed order & said I would return around 4:30. The women was frying a big pot of onions & another pot of sauerkraut. There was also a large pot of potatoes. The place smelled fabulous. I came back & purchased 4 dozen. Packed on ice and took back to California. So delicious, this will be my yearly stop when coming to the East Coast. read more

Best homemade pierogi's I've eaten in a very long time. Almost passed it by called a friend and she came with me. We both placed orders

I have been looking for a place that sells pierogies for sometime now. Last week I decided to give this place a try I ordered the cheddar and potato pierogies and I must say they were beyond my expectations. The dough was nice and thin the pierogi was a nice size and it had lots of flavor these are probably the best pierogies I have ever had. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are big I believe you got a dozen for around 10 or $11. I also put in an order for the stuffed cabbages and they were also very delicious cannot complain I believe you get five cabbages for $12 or so. I cannot wait to try the pierogies with the Meat inside the order requires a bigger order but definitely would be worth the money. I believe it's cash only which is very important to know and they are nice enough to bring out your order to the car. I will be a repeat customer and I am happy that I found this hidden gem I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed if you tried pierogi Palace. read more

I ordered 4 doz. pierogi's on March 14- to be picked up on Good Friday in early pm. They tell everyone that the orders will not be ready until 5 pm! I explained that my husband is disabled & driving from Morris County to Rahway at 5 pm in traffic would be difficult could we please come earlier? She was downright "fresh" saying she has lots of disabled customers, & some people are coming from Pa. I've been going here ever since I can remember to get pierogies. No matter where else I have had them, no pierogies have ever beaten the absolutely delicious taste of Pierogi Palace. As the other reviewer has said they are fantastically fresh. You can watch the women in the kitchen making them and the ones they have in the freezers still taste like they were just made when you bring them home! Also, you have to try their stuffed cabbage. I have been dying to figure out their recipe because I can't make anything that tastes half as good as their stuff. But be careful when you go! I saw the Yelp email yesterday on dumplings in NJ and realized that I would be driving by Pierogi Palace today. Being a Ukie who was raised on this food, and insists on it for all the holidays, I had to stop in. I'm glad I did. Yes small. Yes they are constantly making everything fresh. No, I could not get the fresh because I had not ordered ahead. I got a box of frozen potato and cheese and heated them up at home. Wow -- these are very good pierogis! I will be trying them fresh the next time I will be in the area. The only thing I would note is that they are not cheap! Usually I buy from the church ladies or Polish groceries for $5-$6 a dozen. They're so delicious here and so fresh, it's worth the simple phone call of placing your order ahead of time. Oh.My.God. Best pierogies I have EVER had in my life. Modest, tiny little storefront, easy to miss. Take-out only. The sweet girl/lady working today was making pierogies right in front of us (the place is so small and the kitchen is straight ahead past the counter). As we read through the pierogi options -- there are about 10 -- we commented ooooh beef brisket. Unfortunately, you need to order a minimum of 4 dozen for the meat pierogies. But she said that since she had a special order for those today, she could do a dozen for us. Awesome. We didn't stop there, also got the potato/cheddar and cabbage ones (all fresh) plus stuffed peppers and stuffed cabbages (frozen). Had the pierogies for dinner tonight, pan sauteed them with some butter and fried onions. They were all delicious, SO delicious, and they were made with love. I don't know how this place passes inspection. I was greeted with a rather curt ,"do you have an order". I said "no" and you'd think I'll stole fizzy lifting drinks. All I can say is WOW! Picked up some piero go's to go, and made it with sauerkraut, and kielbasa. They were damn close to my grandma's homemade recipe! I was definitely pleasantly surprised when I tasted them! I recommend lightly toasting them in a pan with a pinch of salt, and topping them with with a dollop of chive sour cream and sautéed onions! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! My wife called pierogi palace to inquire about a pre-ordering pierogis for Christmas. My wife mentioned that this was her first time calling and saw the rave reviews online so she wanted to give them a try. They informed her that the order is ready (they had already made a batch and frozen them) and that we could come in and pick them up ANYTIME! My wife said, "I'm not sure if my husband can get by there today, would it be okay to come by Friday and pick them up?" The lady says, sure, that the order would be there with my name on it and we could come by "ANYTIME" to pickup. I called them Friday morning to inform them that we had placed and order the day before and they said "you can come by and pick them up anytime, we are open until 6pm". Great! I got there at 3:30pm that same day. There was a sign on the door and I was stopped by one of the girls working there and she said, "no pickups until after 4:30, if you didn't call in for early pickup, you have to wait until after 4:30". I tried to explain to the girl that I had called that morning and was told my order was ready and I could come by anytime to pick up. Didn't matter, I had to wait until after 4:30. Now, It was snowing, traffic was horrendous and it took me 45 mins to drive 7 miles, so I was just a little frustrated. I explained to the young girl that this was unacceptable and I could not wait for another hour being that I lived an hour away. I called the wife and explained what was happening, she said they told her we could come by ANYTIME to pick up. I went into the store and before I could speak, one of the other girls playing with her dough, looked at me while I was on the phone with my wife and said, "IT'S NOT GONNA CHANGE ANYTHING". That sent me over the edge! One of the older women said, "did you call in your order yesterday? YES! I exclaimed and then she asked, "are you (my name)? YES! I exclaimed again. "Oh, we have your order right here" she says. FINALLY, someone that knows how to ask questions instead of assuming! "I'm sorry, it gets really busy this time of year" she says. "It's okay, I understand" I said. Well, it doesn't stop there, I go to pay for my order and THEY DON'T EXCEPT CREDIT CARD! I then said, "christ all mighty, you dont except CC"? Then that's when this obese thing from behind the counter came around and said, "GIVE ME THE GOD@#%N BAG, YOU'RE NOT GETTING THEM!" 1) If you are a first time customer, please explain the ordering and pickup procedure in detail and it would be a good idea to mention that you only except CASH! None of this was told to my wife when she place her order. 2) NEVER, NEVER swear at your customers and grab their order from there hands! Now, To the RUDE woman behind the counter. You must be related to the owners because there is NO WAY any decent business owner would ever keep you hired on with your attitude. This was a terrible first time experience. Let me preface by saying I am not a big mashed potato lover. That said, these pierogis are absolutely delicious! The outside casings of the pierogis are like a super thin noodles and the various inside ingredients are always fresh. The place is a bit dumpy and they have limited selections, but you can always order specialty items a day or two beforehand. My family and I also enjoy their stuffed cabbage. Was so excited to try this place out after reading yelp reviews. Drive to place from Union. Asked for 1/2 dozen of mushroom & sauerkrat. Lady on counter said we only sell by dozen. She then said we only have potato & potato/cheese. Since they were not my original choices and I can't buy 1/2 dozen (cost abt $9), I was contemplating what to buy. This is when 'Soup Nazi' lady just took her bag and walked out the door. Yes, simple and plain. No "I'll be right back" or anything. Just simple left without saying a word. Let me start off with I have been here in the past a few times. I have dealt with the owner. ( short blonde woman) She was actually nice. Fast forward a few years, I decided to place an order for my co-workers and I. I told them about the place and how good the pierogis are. Called Monday to place my order for Tuesday pick up. Spoke to a female who seemed a little uninterested in taking the order. I understand we all have off days. She tells me 130 pm pick up time for my order. Tuesday afternoon 130 pm. I walked in and was surprised how dirty the place is, was not like this the last time I was there. There was an elderly gentlemen in front of me that just paid for his order. The young female with the nose ring and brown blonde hair, and ear buds in her ears was the only one working. You can clearly see she definitely does not want to be there. So I said "Good afternoon I have an order for 130", and handed her my list to make it easier for her. Her response "It's not ready yet." Seemed a little snippy, I brushed it off and told her I can wait. Another gentlemen walked in and said he had an order for 2 pm. Now this is where it gets interesting. She looked down on the counter and rudely replied "No 4pm." He clearly was very angry, and stated "I came from down the shore for this shit." "I can't wait around for 2 hours, I told them 2 pm." She in return with an attitude, "I don't know what to tell you, your not fucking getting them." So he asked "What do you have?" Her "I have nothing and your not getting yours." So angrily replied back "Then cancel the order," and walked out. She then called her mother, who I believe is the owner, screaming at the top of her lungs (literally) "Your daughter fucked up an order and put down 4 pm instead of 2 pm and the guy walked out." "Maybe if your fucking ass showed up too work we wouldn't have these problems." "Fuck you," and then hung up. I stood there looking at my e mails pondering do I leave? So the mother called back, I have no idea what was said but again the girl began screaming and cursing again, basically the same thing she had already said. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a business before. I really just wanted to leave now. She began slamming things around, and continued with my order. Now at this point I started focusing on her. Few things I have noticed un-kept hair (praying to god none of it ended up in the food), she was not wearing gloves, now I began to think "OMG she's been touching everything bare handed and now my food". As I am standing there thinking ok this is now a health violation of some sort. I began looking around the place, like really looking around, and wondering how in the hell does this place stay open. Horrible customer service and dirty. She completed my order and roughly plopped it on the counter. I said "Thank you have a nice day." She clearly ignored me. As I left right outside to the left of the door there were 2 dead rats. That definitely turned me off. I have lived in Rahway for 5 years around the block from here and never realized how bad it is. I will definitely be calling the board of health, and never returning to this dump again. I don't understand how the owner does not resolve the problems with this place, fire your daughter, she is making you lose business, and clean the place. "They are a one trick pony? What does that mean? Oh God!" - the words of my Dad when I asked him about Pierogi Palace. Pierogi Palace is the closest thing to an old-fashioned, home-made, traditional pierogi. The store is insanely small with the kitchen inches away. It is all in front of you when you walk in with a few small refrigerators with fresh pierogies in them and then the kitchen behind that. When you want to make an order for the future, one of the ladies in the kitchen will stop making pierogies and take your order. Again, it's nothing special. They make the pierogies freshly and if you buy a small carton, you can almost bet that they have been made either that day or the day before. IT'S FRESH! Everyone in the general area also knows about Pierogi Palace which has kept them open for years without great advertising or a nice store front. To make orders during the Christmas/New Year's season, you should probably put the order in about a month in advance. My family actually put our order in yesterday for Eastern Orthodox Christmas on January 7th. That is actually more than a month in advance. IT'S THAT GOOD! You want some fresh, traditional pierogies then you better head to Rahway to Pierogi Palace. It's really the best. read more

The BEST pierogies I've ever had. I've had the potato/pot cheese, saurkraut/mushroom, and brisket. They were sooooo good. I even love the frozen ones after they are baked in the oven, the dough gets good and crispy. But fresh made are the best!! read more

Saw this place across from Rockys and noticed someone inside at like 9:30, i call and a girl answered and was so cool letting me know we could come over and buy the ones she had left, got home after listening to another set from the band Against The Grain and cooked some up, they were awesome!!!
