I was so happy when they opened expanded their online site to a storefront.. its so adorable! The owner, Anna, is a straight boss babe and is the sweetest most, hardworking woman I have ever met and is such an inspiration to women (BTW she's only 21). What really stands out, though, is the service. I don't have tons of extra money so I'm usually buying off the sale rack. Still, I am treated as though I were buying the most expensive thing in the shop. Just yesterday, I bought a pair of jeans with the expert advice of shop co-owner Tessa and had a great experience. She pulled extra pieces for me to try on and recommended the pair that fit best. With this selection and service, Idlewild is a great reason to shop small and local.

Well, I didn't get any sandals, but 45 minutes later I happily walked out of there with sheepskin boots, a pair of alpaca socks, some knitted wool mittens, and a lot more knowledge about sheepskins, rug making, and how to choose sheepskin boots. I probably would've left with more if I hadn't been called away for something. Greta is really great - so thorough and helpful, but not in a "sales-pitchy" way. Vintage Marketplace whisks shoppers off on an adventure as they walk through the doors. Each area is categorized by color: blues to the right, browns and whites straight ahead, violets in the back of the store. Open doorways weave in and out of the dividing wall, allowing customers to float freely from continent to continent... er... section to section. Beautiful, plush scarves caught my eye, as well as some of the old writing table decorations. One room in the back was filled with an assortment of accessories, like jewelry, hair barrettes, and hats. Incredibly well organized, this shop is like strolling through a fashion museum. Prices were a little higher than expected, and although there were two salesladies in the store, neither of them acknowledged that I was there. That bumped Vintage Marketplace down to three stars. I'd still stop back for a browse though. The window display changes frequently (and, in my opinion, is the most elaborate in Hyde Park), so something new will likely draw me in again.
