At my request, I met him before I entrusted him with my little girl, I later found out through other of his clients what an honorable business he runs, placing the needs of the kids (what he calls our four legged family members) ahead of the parents "wants". For example, he will not try to detangle a matted kid toca use pain to please the family. This is traumatizing and painful for the kids. Nothing but EXCELLENT things to say about this wonderful groomer. When Joey returned my initial inquiry phone call, he walked me through a questionnaire to get a sense of both me as a parent as well as our pup. He clearly has decades of experience, and loves what he does with a sincere passion. He has a very clear routine that helps each pip feel right at home in his presence. He also talked me through the whole experience when I picked our girl up, just to let me know how it all went and how she felt about it. There is no doubt that Joey genuinely loves the "children" (as he warmly refers to the pups) that come in. The cut itself came out great. No knicks or scrapes, and the length is exactly what we had asked for. He also did a great job balancing out the tricky parts of the face and head (we have a Goldendoodle, so the mustache, beard and eye can be pretty particular). I came back today with her last cut not that long ago and she was cut uneven, sanitary areas not cleaned. I'm so disappointed and he told me i could come back for a FREE grooming which i wouldn't do because she's looked crazy for the THIRD time at this point! Joey is the BEST! I've been taking my Broodle (1/2 Brussels Griffon, 1/2 Toy Poodle) to him since we brought her home. She's almost 3 now. He's patient, kind, and completely unrattled. He truly loves the "kids" left in his care. Pebbles can be a bit of a diva, and gave him a run for the money at first, but she loves him to pieces now. Right after her July "spa day", I took her to a pet photographer for a photo-shoot. Last week I got a message that the photographer wanted to feature Pebbles on the COVER of her 2019 calendar!!! I'm positive it was Joey's perfect cut that snagged the spot for her. As an aside, Joey also groomed our first dog, from 1995 - 2010. Comet, a cocker spaniel, was a difficult customer. Not well behaved, didn't like people very much, and at times, combative. There were very few places I could bring him. Yet he never gave me grief about going to Joey. He was one of the few people that Comet behaved for. While it took me 5 1/2 years to muster the courage to get another dog, there was never any doubt that there's no one else I'd trust my Pebbles with. read more

I've just moved to Scarsdale and was in need of a groomer for my Miniature Poodle, Stella. She is a sweet girl but always needs a little extra TLC when it comes to grooming. I had originally made an appointment with another groomer who only asked her breed and name. They were less than accommodating in terms of when I was able to bring her in. I kept searching and found Bow Meow on Yelp. I decided to give them a call and see if they could get me in sooner. Not only did they get me in right away, but Joey spend a good amount of time with me asking about my dog's level of comfort with the grooming process, medical issues, skin sensitivities etc. I immediately felt more comfortable bringing my darling girl here, so I canceled the appointment at the other place. When I brought Stella in, she was very nervous at first (the smart girl has always been edgy when she sees me pack for vacation, so imagine how she was feeling after moving to a new place!). Joey spent a good amount of time with me again, discussing the intricacies of grooming a Poodle and what my preferences are. Joey was very patient with her and gave me a detailed report of her first day there. It was clear throughout the entire experience that he loves dogs and would treat any dog that comes in as his own. I met Joey for the first time when I brought my rescue pup, Milo to him for grooming this summer. Joey and I had several conversations prior to me bringing Milo in where he asked questions about my preferences, Milo's background, and explained his whole process in complete detail. He was so unbelievably thorough and beyond professional. (I don't even get this kind of treatment when I get a haircut :o ). During our calls he would refer to the dogs as the "kids" which I felt was such a genuine display of how he truly feels and treats his clients. Most groomers I had contacted prior to Joey when inquiring were just insisting on dropping off for the day, but when speaking with Joey, he on his own suggested bringing Milo in on a day that was quiet so that he can come in and go right home early. I was unsure how Milo would look with a haircut as he has long, coarse, wire hair but when I picked him up from Joey's I was absolutely blown away! Milo looked amazing with not a single piece of fur out of place and attention to detail everywhere. It was evident that Joey clearly has the patience of a saint to meticulously make every spot look so perfect! I've been looking for a good groomer for my bichon and now I've finally found one! Joey was so nice, he made sure I felt comfortable with the haircut beforehand and even called before cutting her tail to make sure I would be okay with it. Nowhere else does this! You can tell he actually cares about his work and especially the dogs. My dog came home happy and excited unlike usually when she comes back shaking and exhausted. He knew she was shy, so he let her just take time and relax before starting. Even though she had to get a short hair cut (my fault for her matting), her face is perfectly done and adorable! I'm surprised to be the first one writing a review, as Bow Meow has been around for a very long time now - and with good reasoning. I took my 7 month old Mini-Schnauzer here for his first grooming ever. Monk's hair was overgrown and matting terribly in certain areas, so we took it here for him to get the proper cut. Well, we dropped him off in the morning but got a call back an hour later from Joe (I believe), who said that he didn't want to continue cutting Monk's hair because he was too uncomfortable, and didn't want to traumatize his first groom experience. To me, that is the most impressive thing any groomer can do - exercise control, value of the customer and animal, all while making no profit (He didn't let us pay). Joe practically cleaned, cut and trimmed all of Monk, but wouldn't let us pay because he couldn't finish through. I'm sure if I took my buddy to PetCo or any other large chain, he would've been restrained and traumatized by some heartless ***hole. Nonetheless, Monk actually looks great even though Joe wasn't able to finish. He was compassionate to our puppy, knew to call us right away and even didn't let us pay as a courtesy. It is very very hard to find service like this these days. I will be going to BowMeow again and will be recommending them to my friends and strangers. I've been going to Bow Meow for more than 10 years with various pets and Joey is the best. He treats my 5 year old Maltese Yorkie mix as if he is a family member and he genuinely cares about the animals. 1st visit to Bow Meow today and this place was GREAT for our dog. Our dog is a rescue dog who came to us with some anxiety issues; he is a nervous guy and usually he shakes and is visibly frightened when we leave him off with the groomer. Today was his 1st visit to Bow Meow and he was unbelievably super-comfortable from the get-go. His comfort level was a little surreal. He kind of walked in as if he owned the place! He had no problem with us leaving him -- none, whatsoever. He seemed perfectly happy, and didn't look back. Grooming took a little longer than usual, but when we came to get him, he wasn't nervous, he was perfectly relaxed, there were no problems, and he actually was trying to get back inside! Oh, and the grooming itself--fabulous! Our dog is an 11 year old Bichon-Poodle mix and he looked GREAT, smelled great, and had no knots--anywhere. Love, love, love this place--I think the owner is extremely interested in your pet's best interest. He is a wonderful man. Bring your dog here, you will not regret it in any way. read more

My Tibetan Terrier, Charlie, had some matting I didn't even know he had -- Joey found it, called me to let me know the appointment would take a little longer, and then had Charlie ready exactly when he said he'd be ready, matting-free. After reading the reviews I thought I would give this pricey business a try. My poor baby was so traumatized by the experience I will never take her back. She hid under the bed for the entire day afterward and wouldn't eat. Owner said she nipped at him several times . I have never had any other groomer ever tell me this, just the opposite that my dog was an angel every time. Also the " grooming" was poor at best, looked as if she had barely been trimmed at all. I've had better grooming done at Petco. There was something "off " about the owner too, should of trusted my gut feeling. I feel so bad about the whole experience. Not returning. read more

We recently relocated to Ardsley, NY and were in need of a groomer for our two senior westies. after doing a quick search (and a few drive-bys of the shop) we made an appointment and took our dogs to Bow Meow. Though my dogs were nervous when we arrived, Joey got down on the floor to pet them and show them love and they quickly calmed and had a great experience - they looked fabulous when I picked them up too! He treats my dogs as if they're his pets/family - and I love that he calls them " the kids" or "the girls". Upon arrival at our first appointment, we went over their health and grooming history and any skin issues they had recently (i figured that was becasue we were new). But on my next visit Joey spent the same amount of time with me reviewing recent activities/skin issues/etc. - its because he cares and is so very thorough - he does this each visit! When we pick them up, we get a full report on their day and anything he found out of the ordinary on their coats.
