Gosh, I can't wait for this place to open back up!!! I've only had them once before they closed and im CRAVING some Joey subs!!!!

Just not the same. I loved Joey's as a kid into my teenage years, and early adult. That was when Joey was still kicking, and Greg and the gang were running the show. I've tried it several times since those days and man, it just isn't there anymore. I'm not saying its terrible by any means, but it just lots its flavor, soul, heart. I recall getting an assorted sub back in the day and finishing it in no time. But now, the last couple times, I've taken a few bites, maybe finished a part or so, but it just has an off taste now. Even the dogs aren't right. I dont know, I'll give it one more try someday, but If it still is off then, I'll give up. read more

I discovered Joey's about 17+ years ago. When I left Lima I dearly missed the subs and the dogs. I recently moved back to the idea and to my surprise Joey's was still there! Sadly it's new ownership, I used to enjoy talking to the owner every now and again. The food has changed I wanna say for the best, but I just can't! The dogs just aren't the same! Ok, so while I was out of town about a month ago, I tried a Chicago style hotdog and fell in love. So when I heard that joeys had them, I instantly wanted to go get one. To say the least, I was a bit disappointed. It was mainly sweet relish and mustard which is fine if that's really what you want but for me the best part was the tomatoes and sports peppers to which I was given very little tomato and no sports peppers at all!! Huge let down. The dog was good, just not what I was hoping for. I'll go again and try the coney dog and will probably love it because the hot dog itself was awesome and so were the toppings, it just simply wasn't put together well. But how disappointing one of the main parts of an order being left off completely. Especially when that's how it comes via store policy. It's not like I specially ordered it.‍ Debated two stars but went with three simply because it wasn't awful. In fact it was good. Great local sub shop. I had the Torpedo sub and the Atomic dog. They both were fabulous! I will be going back and taking my family.

I grew up in Lima and my family still lives in the area. When we lived in Columbus and now in Florida, I had to have a Joey's, Fat Jack's or Beer Barrel Pizza, and Kewpee. I had a Joey's sub today and it was not the same. The bun was totally different and sauce. The reason folks keep coming back and are loyal to their hometown spot is that they crave that same taste. The subs did change a bit after Joey passed but went back to what I remembered. Please take it back to the original style. Many fond memories of having Joey's assorted wrapped in wax paper eating it downtown in the square with a Vernor's to drink. We also had Joey's and other favorites during band camp at Bath High School. Nothing tastes like a Joey's assorted.....it's not about expensive bread or toppings. My grandpa also loved their coney dogs. No problem adding new offerings but please don't mess with the original menu. Jodi L. read more

I was born and raised in the Lima area, moved away 13 years. I only get back to Lima once, twice a year and always make Joey's a scheduled stop. I really have no idea why the sub are so good, there isn't anything special about them, but damn I crave them. Its probably the fact that they remind me of my childhood growing, who knows. The shop is small, clean and the staff is always friendly. If you in in downtown Lima, stop for lunch, you won't be disappointed. read more

Joey's has been part of the town square scenery as long as I can remember and is the best local spot for fresh subs.

On a road trip and was looking for some lunch other than the usual fast food. Handy dandy yelp helped us find this gem. Great lunch. My fella got the gyro which was quite tasty. Following another yelpers advice I got the assorted but added pepper relish. Like they said...I'm not sure what made it so good...but it was. Great bread and the pepper relish made it. Not as good as it used to be. When Joey passed away, and they brought out all these newer toppings, it just changed the taste. Nonetheless, it is still a staple of downtown, and it's not terrible. I do enjoy a good sub from them once in a while. I miss the old style, but times always change. read more

I would consider this the worst place for Subs in Lima Ohio!! I recently went to Joey's to get a sub. It was about 5pm. Their hours are 8:30am to 8pm At that time I tried ordering their (Joey Assorted) Topped with a layers of processed Bologna, then salami, and then dutch loaf! But their derelict employee stated that they were sold out of Bologna and Dutch loaf, ham and Turkey! All they had available was just salami! Being that this is 5 p.m. And that you state that you'll be open till 8! My advice I would consider that you should have enough food to feed your guests till 8! And I would also give you a hint of the info, if you are sold out you should maybe CLOSE!!!!! To continue with the worse subs in the world, I then asked the Derelict employee how much do you get for $5.50 then, being that's theirs only salami. He stated that there's just 4 pieces of salami, lettuce tomato onion and 2 pieces of cheese!!!!!! I DO NOT consider that a (MEATY sub)!! I would consider that kind of a rip off!! $2.99 sounds a little bit better for just what you're getting! I would also offer more alternative meats to your menu. As some people do not like PROCESSED cuts of Bologna, Dutch loaf and salami. In my book those are considered low cuts of meat! read more
