Not the healthiest, but a wonderful place for comfort food. I wasn't sure whether to expect fast food style or wait service. Never disappoints! For what it is, it's fantastic food. Stopped in Lima Ohio for my skyline chili. It's a ritual for me traveling north and south between Michigan and Tennessee. Oh my heavenly chili stars! Opened in 1949, I lived up north but never stopped by. Super friendly staff!! Waffle House vibes :) Gluten free!! Many items are gf!! No fries but look at this Greek salad - side salad as big as a plate Loaded chili with toppings too big to fit in the bowl and my tea was always full. The non gf had a coney dog - looked good Huge portions small prices!! The chili is beyond delicious, a hint of cinnamon and a whole lot of yum. Kelly was beyond amazing. I'm totally giving 5 stars for the employees and the food. We were driving through Lima for work and found this location on Yelp. With everything going on through the pandemic it was hard to tell who would be open and who wouldn't. Well, they were open and they were doing a FANTASTIC job about cleaning and serving. I was amazed at how much they were cleaning. I'm talking about door handles, tables, benches, chairs, surfaces... non-stop. This didn't dampen their spirits either. My husband is a big fan of Skyline ever since he attend college in Cincinnati. This was my first experience at Skyline. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken. It was loaded with feta and chick peas. I really liked the thin sliced pepperoncinis and Skyline Greek dressing. Next time I'll skip the chicken. It was nothing special. Every year we go to King's island for my husband's company outing. This place is our halfway point! We always look forward to stopping here on our way. Every single time we come we have the best experience. We love the staff and the food. We mostly order a three way but sometimes some have gotten the chili dogs and other items on the menu. It's all delicious! Thank God the closest one is over two hours from my house. Lol Now, I've read the other reviews. If you don't like chili, do not go to a chili restaurant. If you're looking for healthy, you probably shouldn't expect a ton of "healthy" food at a chili restaurant. If you think you should eat most of your food then decide you don't like it and don't want to pay because it was "terrible" you probably are just looking for free food! Don't review and put 1 star because that's on you and you look like a cheap jerk trying to scam the system. Skyline chili is different than the typical heavy weighted down American chili. It's lighter with a spiced flavor (not hot but different spices). You may or may not like the flavor. If you don't like this kind of chili move along. *If the manager could read my note at the bottom, I'd really appreciate it. I have no idea how spaghetti topped with chili and 4 inches of shredded cheese tastes incredible, but it does! This was a huge surprise and I was so happy my boyfriend suggested we stop here on our way back home from King's Island. The chili was super flavorful and Smokey and our waitress was really nice! The reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of an inability to address other patrons who are acting recklessly in a pandemic. We were really happy to see a sign on the front entrance that said they recommend we adhere to CDC guidelines and because of the rising cases and Delta variant, my boyfriend and I wore face masks until we got to our table and then when we got back in line to pay. One of the employees was working the cash register and her two friends were standing at the checkout. We thought initially they were waiting to pay. We were waiting 6ft away. One of the girls friends whispered about our face masks to her other friend who looked at us, rolled her eyes and then the two proceeded to cough in each other's faces 10 times dramatically and none of the staff or the employee working the counter said anything. Even pre-pandemic, isn't it reckless and inappropriate to cough/gag in another's face multiple times in a line where other customers are? After about 5 more minutes of waiting, it seemed the manager (I think it was the manager because she seemed to be the central point for the other employees) noticed we were still waiting in line and told the employee we were waiting and so we finally got to pay. Maybe she couldn't see us because we were 6ft away, but we certainly weren't going to step closer to the two friends who seemed to make it a point to gag/cough obnoxiously. To the manager, please speak to your employee who also seems very young and other employees to ask other patrons to act responsibly and respectfully to the spaces that they are in. Your other patrons and employees don't know if people going to your restaurant and wanting to enjoy your food have lost loved ones to the pandemic, if they live with immunocompromised folks or children. I was really disappointed that no one did anything and we just ended up wanting to get out of there as soon as possible. But still, the food was delicious. I checked out Skyline chili with a colleague of mine who is from Ohio. He recommended and spoke very highly about this chili. So much so that he almost purchased a franchise. Personally I don't fare fast food let alone fast food chili. I did however sample a few spoons of this chili just to say I tried it. I found it to be quite watery and little sweet. The beef in the chili had a really fine ground texture almost as if it was minced. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. It's your pretty basic fare, served with saltine crackers. It's not the hardy meaty bold flavors I'm used to in Texas or southwest style chili. I opted for the garden salad with the added chicken. The salad was decent made with the typical cheap fast food iceberg lettuce and pre cooked diced chicken. The service was good and attentive. The look of this place reminds me of a diner grease spoon. Sexually suggestive names for the pasta, including three-way (chili and cheese on noodles), four-way (chili and cheese plus onions or red beans on noodles), and five-way (my favorite, with chili, cheese AND onions). 3. Cheese Coneys (sure, they're tiny, but a mountain of cheese and chili with mustard and onions on a dog is pure heaven. Not a Chicago dog, but pretty good.) 4. Diet Mountain Dew and Diet Dr Pepper! 5. So this is the largest chain in Southern Ohio "Coney Island" style restaurants. Their house special is Spaghetti covered in a "Greek" style meat sauce (Chilli) and you add to it, beans, onions, and/or shredded cheese. They also have a limited number of other offerings, but if you aren't coming for the spaghetti - why bother? The service is fast and efficient, you can be in and out in under 30 minutes. We also split a greek salad, which was very good, everything was chopped up. but it had romaine lettuce, red onion, chickpeas, and lots of feta. Our daughter goes to ONU, and for Cincinnati area students this is the last shot at comfort food before hitting the books. Conversely, it is the first place we go to when leaving ONU, before getting onto I 75, in order to satisfy Skyline cravings. This Skyline is always clean, and they are super attentive to customer's needs. The portions are always generous and you do not go home hungry. If there is something you need, ask and they will accommodate you. We have a family member that always gets a chili cheese sandwich. Which is a cheese coney without the hotdog (family member says they don't need the extra fat!). We noticed that this Skyline serves that item "pinched". It is like a bowl of chili in a bun, with cheese on top. They also offer it open faced...the bun is open with the chili and cheese and onions spread over the top of it. We have never seen it this way at other Skylines. No matter what you get, they will be quick, and efficient, and the "Cincinnati Style" chili will be worth the trip. read more

Skyline Chili was first recommended to us a few years ago in Cincinnati. When we checked it out the mound of cheese and the underlying spaghetti blew us away. We were expecting a bowl of chili and had no idea of what a 3-way was (pause). Three years later we were curious as to how much of our previous enthusiasm was surprise versus outright goodness. I think a bit of both. The chili 3-way was good and very filling. But good was it. Not awesome. The Coney dog was disappointingly small. To me anyway, a Coney is a footlong, but maybe I'm wrong. The taste was similar to the 3-way but the underlying taste is a hot dog and bun instead of pasta. I'd certainly recommend a visit to behold the cheese spectacle. This is only my second time eating at a Skyline. I give Lima's 5 stars because EVERYONE was just so darn friendly! I sat at the counter and ordered a loaded chili bowl at lunchtime Wednesday. I was in a time crunch but should not have worried. They were on it! I wish I had gotten the ladies name who was working her tail off and yet had a smile on her face and appeared to be having a good time. They all worked together like a well oiled machine. Great customer service by the waitress who took our order. Very polite and very attentive to our needs while sitting at the dining room. The food was delicious, hot and served on their little oval plates. This location was much better than the one I've been at In Fort Lauderdale Florida. The floors were a bit nasty stained carpets but other than that the service was good. I'd recommend it if you're in the area. There's also a drive thru window as well at this location. read more

Had that and a couple coneys on this trip, and was disappointed; the coneys have always been small, but now they are ridiculously tiny--actual hot dog is only about 2-1/2" long. I first tried Skyline Chili in Cincinnati when I was very young, and I never realized how extraordinary it was to put chili sauce all over spaghetti pasta, or even hot dogs!!!! We would always go to the one in the Cincinnati area before every Reds' game and grab ourselves Coney Dogs, and they still are as delightful as can be!!
