The lady who served us was very kind, and the restaurant is unique and cozy. The lemonades we ordered took a very long time to be made. I waited nearly 20 mins for my drink. They had to brew another pot of flower tea to add to my lemonade. It must have been too hot because my drink ended up being lukewarm - all the ice had melted. Two others who got lemonade had ice in theirs that didn't melt. The lemonade was very bitter - like water mixed with straight lemon juice. I do not believe there was any kind of sweetener in it. I had three sips and ended up dumping it out a home. One of my daughters only got through half of hers and also dumped it. The other said the latte just tasted like tea. They also ordered the lemon bars, which tasted fine but had a very strange gummy texture to them. Two lemonades, two bars and one latte cost $26. Overly expensive, especially when the drinks ended up going down the drain. Very disappointed. Will not be returning.

Environment: The restaurant is located at the King/University plaza, where there are ample of parking space and really convenient for those taking the bus as well. The restaurant itself is clean, well lit, and has a few seats. It's best to come in a group of 4 of fewer if you plan on dining here. The decor seems to be going for a "bathroom chic" as described by my friend -- "4 stars - delicious food, feels like I'm in a bathroom"! Lol. It's mainly because of the tiles on the wall and the uncomfortable seats. Food: The BOGO special only allowed us to order from their special bowls so we tried the Big Umami (salmon + tuna) and the one with the Duck. Quantity wise the bowl seems to be good value given that it normally costs $15 per bowl. They put a generous amount of toppings on top of the rice and the flavour was good and the fish sashimi was quite fresh. Definitely no watery/soggy texture! The food also looks damn good with lots of colours, which not only is super appetizing but also so Insta worthy!! Service: Basically fast food McDonald like ordering, no table service. When we were lining up they got someone to hand us the big cardboard menu and explained to us how the ordering works. However...they somehow managed to messed up the order. I got the Big Umami with rice and only one of them had rice while the other one was mixed greens :( definitely a little too healthy for me.....

So, not a big reviewer so take it for what's it worth…read more We've been going to Zander's for quite a few years now, mostly for wing night, but not exclusively, last night for example. (But I still got wings ) Over the years it's been a bit of a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. At times, there's no place better in the city and at other times it's rather lack luster, just living on current reputation. Then at some point, the manager who seems to speak to everyone in the restaurant, but seems to not even recognize us, he realizes this and begins to turn things around. Currently we seem to be in a low spot, and here's why I think this. Mainly it's due to high turnover of staff. It seems there are new servers in week to week (probably not that frequently, but it seems that way). We remember seeing the same proficient servers week after week, now they're mostly all gone. The tall skinnier older guy (sorry I can't remember your name) is AMAZING and we hope for him every time. Sadly, we're left with the "new girl" and the service that comes with a new employee. It's an assumption that the staff just aren't treated well and that's why they leave, but could just be the restaurant industry. Lastly, food preparation has fallen below their norm. I ask for my hot Buffalo wings to be extra saucy and they NEVER are and the response I get is, the chicken wings absorbs too much of it. I ask for my wings extra saucy EVERYWHERE I go, no place else has a problem hitting the mark here. I also don't think whoever is cooking the food is tasting the food, these wings are NOT hot by any standards, I can say this because I eat a lot of chicken wings and a lot of hot wings are too spicy for me, these don't even reach medium temps. Nevertheless, the wings are tasty and I like them. Lastly, we often attend with a couple friends and one of them orders their wings extra crispy, when this happens, I too get my wings extra crispy, I don't particularly enjoy extra crispy wings :( Anyway, we're gonna stay away for a while I think and head over to Kelsey's, it's less convenient but has been far more consistent over time. Like I said, I'm not an expert here, so please make your own decisions, I just want the old Zander's back.

The building itself was built in the 1870's and has been a restaurant now for 42 years. It's got quite a bit of charm to it. We ordered their saganaki for an appetizer, and all I can say is "OPA!". It was great! I had not had saganaki in a long time, and that was delicious. Instead of a salad, I tried their soup of the day, which was a Greek soup. Very tasty also. For my entree, I tried their New York Striploin Steak Neptune (that's a mouthful!). 10 oz steak covered with shrimp, scallops, and hollandaise sauce. Sides were green beans and cooked potatoes and carrots. My steak was cooked perfectly, and it was quite good. The carrots and potatoes were also good. For dessert, I tried their cake of the day, which was a vanilla layer cake with a raspberry compote. The compote was delicious, but the cake itself was just a little dry. This place is a hidden gem! Our server was wonderful, and very patient with questions about the menu. The timing on food coming out was also spot on, even though they were very busy with several larger parties. Would absolutely go there again.

When I first noticed the extensive array of food and drink items available, it was difficult to choose what to order! I finally decided on the Ham, Brie & Apple Panini With Honey Dijon ($9.90), and a Side Order Of Caesar Salad ($3.50). My mother had settled on the Quiche Of The Day, which was Broccoli & Cheese With Spinach Salad ($12.70). We were told that all of the food was homemade, and that the individuals who made the food had many years of experience doing so. I truly enjoyed the Ham, Brie & Apple Panini With Honey Dijon, it was absolutely divine! The sandwich had been placed into the panini press, and the brie was melted perfectly, along with thick slices of smoked-ham, and apple pieces; it was the perfect sandwich! I was also impressed with how large it was, as I was given two-halves, both of which were generous portions. In terms of the Caesar Salad, I did like the amount of croutons and bacon bits that were placed into the salad itself however, I did find that the dressing was a tad too light for my liking (I would have liked there to be more dressing). My mother received a large piece of Broccoli & Cheese Quiche, and loved the taste of it, along with the Spinach Salad, which she couldn't stop raving about! Both of our orders were fresh, and tasted wonderful, we were greatly satisfied with our choices. After we had finished our main meals, we then decided to try some dessert, and settled on the Scone With Jam & Butter ($5.65). Our server was very kind in giving us each two scones, in which we paid the same price; that came-out to four scones in total! However, in all honesty, we weren't too keen on the taste of the scones. It could have been that they had just come-out of the oven because they tasted like dough on the inside, and were difficult to chew. I did enjoy the outside as it was a tad crunchy, but would have liked the inside to be more appetizing. Overall though, this was a splendid lunch, one in which we felt we had received our money's worth, and would be glad to try again in the future! ATMOSPHERE: This café was situated beside the Bell Homestead, which is known as the home in which Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. We loved how quaint the café felt, and the beautiful scenery that was noticeable from the café windows. The café itself was quiet, with lace tablecloths, and telephone-inspired drapes hanging from the windows. I was in awe of how authentic this café looked in relation to the time-period in which Bell lived at the home. The size of the café was small however, it was big enough for us to move around comfortably. SERVICE: We had made reservations a few days in advance, as it was encouraged to do so due to the high volume of visitors to the area. When we had walked-in, we approached the server, and told her our name, in which we were allowed to choose any table that we liked. We loved how friendly and knowledgeable our server was, giving us details regarding the food items, and the café itself. She came by during our meal to ask how we were enjoying ourselves, and even gave us some extra scones, which was truly kind of her to do. She was also quick in getting the items to us, especially considering that she had a few tables in which she was waiting on. COST: 1 Ham, Brie & Apple Panini With Honey Dijon ($9.90) + Side Order Of Caesar Salad ($3.50) + 1 Broccoli & Cheese Quiche With Spinach Salad ($12.70) + Scone With Jam & Butter ($5.65) = $31.75 (Tax Included) WOULD YOU RETURN? Absolutely! This café had delicious food, an inviting ambiance, and excellent service, all of which equaled a wonderful time had by all!
