What a great place!!! Talk about great food, choice and and I got to eat in!!! You would have thought I died and went to heaven. The menu has an option of 5 choices for $25. I was expecting the portion size to feed a bird. Was I ever wrong. My sister and I shared the 5 choices. We both had the lobster shrimp Mac and cheese. I was expecting to have to hunt for the lobster like I was fishing for it on the East Coast. I had no problem finding the lobster or the shrimps. We also ordered the calamari, coconut shrimp and fish tacos. It was delicious. We topped it off with peach pie! Oh with fresh whipped cream and ice cream! Damn now it's COVID26 pounds. If you order the "all you can eat fish dinner" on Tuesdays, you can get 6 pieces of Alaskan pollack! You can eat in or take out. Lunch special is 2 piece fish and chips with slaw and drink OR fish tacos ('my choice) for $11. This is my new go to place in Brantford. It's worth the drive from Toronto. read more

We go to Brantford at least once a month to visit family, and have always been curious about Joey's (the little yellow cartoon fish is cute). Unfortunately, we have to report that's it "meh", at best. The food itself is edible, but not particularly flavourful - it's like it was made to appeal exclusively to old people with greatly diminished palettes, which might explain why we always see the place peopled, sparsely, with an older clientele (the night we actually ordered, there were two tables of middle-aged to elderly patrons - it was a Saturday). Ordered the Basic Fish and Chips (meh), and the Salmon Salad (also, meh). Not sure how they can afford to pay the half-dozen staff that we saw "working" there that night. Service was not good - very distracted and obviously NOT interested in providing any kind of assistance to people who've never been there before. LOTS of socializing going on at the front counter where they have an open window to the kitchen (all among employees and none with Customers, of course). Seriously, you'd think they'd kind of want to be extra nice to/professional with newer, younger faces that arrive on their doorstep. Usually, price is the last of my concerns, since I'm more than happy to pay more for great food and good service, but I have to say they overcharge for what you get. Over $40 for a smallish Fish and Chip plate and a tiny salad with chopped up bits of salmon. Really don't understand how this place stays afloat. read more

Very poor service watched an elderly couple ask for milk three times before they received three small cups of milk our food the fish was falling off soggy gross and nasty tasting. If there was a lower rating than 1 I would give it to this restaurant. I called for takeout and ordered 2 pcs of Cod and chips $16.90. Now I know fish is expensive so I expected that. I picked up the order, drove home and the fish is so freaking small they are the size of perch. Absolutely ridiculous. I phoned the store and told the cashier she said "ya, I really can't comment on the order because I didn't pack it. I can't control the portions." I asked for the manager and she said "no, they have gone home". Unbelievable. Total waste of money. I will never be back. read more

Wasnt bad though the deep fried batter was cooked properly. lot of times you'll find it over or undercooked with deep fried foods. Brantford is somewhat the half way point between Toronto and the far side of London, so about once a month I meet family here for a lunch and a bit of a catch up. This month we went to Joey's as none of us had been to one before. It was quiet considering it was the lunch hour but being a Monday, understandable. Service was quick, we were brought menus and drinks within minutes. We each ordered the haddock and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, certainly NOT a frozen manufactured fillets. There were two fair sized portions next to a scoop of chips. The fries were nothing to write home about: appearing to be of the frozen variety (and not a large amount) and the small portion of coleslaw was swimming in a very watery dressing. Yes, it was fresh and crunchy but it could have used a kick of flavour. The pros: food was not greasy; the fish made the meal; restaurant was quiet despite several other tables being occupied so it's conducive for a 'chat and a chew'; service was quick. The cons: the meal fell down with the fries: there weren't many of them which was probably a good thing because they weren't fresh cut; the coleslaw deserved a better dressing (I love creamy coleslaw so I was quite disappointed with what was served). Room for improvement? Yes on the fries and the coleslaw. As mentioned in other reviews, this place appeals to an older crowd. It might be time for a change in marketing strategy and an updated menu. Fish and chips is not a standard 'go-to' quick meal (given the proximity to the jam packed Timmies within steps of the restaurant) but it could be a contender for the casual lunch crowd with some changes. read more

I really like joeys. I usually get takeout at lunch time for work. I either get regular fish and chips or fish tacos. When I call to order, they always ask the exact time I will be there so it is ready fresh and hot. Always lots of condiments as well. Good tasting and good value for lunch. read more

I went to the restaurant on Friday night to pick up something that seemed good. When I got in, I chose the 2 piece haddock and fries. I then took it home. It was awful. The batter was still gooey and soft inside, the fries were the usual restaurant knock off chips. For a fish and chip shop (ANY WHERE THAT SELLS FISH AND CHIPS OR IS IN THAT GENRE OF RESTAURANTS...USE POTATOES!!!) In terms of their "chips" (which the don't call chips they are fries)This was the same as going to Kelsey's or Jack Astors. I would expect it to be something like a good fish and chip shop. The fries were hard and tasteless the potato was all fried out of the fry. The fish portions for a place like this were the same as captain highliner. For $16, I would suggest that ppl find a real fish and chip shop in Brantford and go there instead or make their own at home. If u like their version then fine. But go to England and have real fish and chips or to a place where it's actual fish and chips like Heritage Fish and Chips...so much better. read more

I took my wife for lunch here. The lunch special was $17.99 for two. The portion sizes were reasonable and tasty. I find service was good too. Where else can you get 2 meals for $17.99 at the sit down place ? It included drink too. Will come again. read more

Often order the family pack for take out. Food is always fresh and hot you can tell it hasn't been sitting in the window for a while. The famous fish is amazing. If some of the pieces are smaller they add additional pieces to make up for the portion sizes. Staff is always smiling and happy to greet you when you arrive. One of the better joeys locations out of all the ones I've been to in other cities. Keep up the good work! read more

The food is deep fried and typical for a mom and pop shop. It's only barely edible. It's very greasy. The portion size is okay, just not a lot of flavor. read more

New owners took over the business about a year ago & since then, the service is very poor. It's not because they have lots of customers, but the servers are not attentive. Basic customer service is lacking & I wouldn't recommend Brantford Joey's at all. read more
