So, not a big reviewer so take it for what's it worth. We've been going to Zander's for quite a few years now, mostly for wing night, but not exclusively, last night for example. (But I still got wings ) Over the years it's been a bit of a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. At times, there's no place better in the city and at other times it's rather lack luster, just living on current reputation. Then at some point, the manager who seems to speak to everyone in the restaurant, but seems to not even recognize us, he realizes this and begins to turn things around. Currently we seem to be in a low spot, and here's why I think this. Mainly it's due to high turnover of staff. It seems there are new servers in week to week (probably not that frequently, but it seems that way). We remember seeing the same proficient servers week after week, now they're mostly all gone. The tall skinnier older guy (sorry I can't remember your name) is AMAZING and we hope for him every time. Sadly, we're left with the "new girl" and the service that comes with a new employee. It's an assumption that the staff just aren't treated well and that's why they leave, but could just be the restaurant industry. Lastly, food preparation has fallen below their norm. I ask for my hot Buffalo wings to be extra saucy and they NEVER are and the response I get is, the chicken wings absorbs too much of it. I ask for my wings extra saucy EVERYWHERE I go, no place else has a problem hitting the mark here. I also don't think whoever is cooking the food is tasting the food, these wings are NOT hot by any standards, I can say this because I eat a lot of chicken wings and a lot of hot wings are too spicy for me, these don't even reach medium temps. Nevertheless, the wings are tasty and I like them. Lastly, we often attend with a couple friends and one of them orders their wings extra crispy, when this happens, I too get my wings extra crispy, I don't particularly enjoy extra crispy wings :( Anyway, we're gonna stay away for a while I think and head over to Kelsey's, it's less convenient but has been far more consistent over time. Like I said, I'm not an expert here, so please make your own decisions, I just want the old Zander's back. read more

I love that they have daily Zanders Specials where you can get some of their popular menu items on great value. Through the Thursday specials we were able to sample the Beer can chicken and the Baby back ribs. The breading on the fried chicken tasted good, but there was a little too much white meat to go with it after. Good thing the gravy they have for their poutine and the chicken was very flavourful. The baby back ribs' meat was fall-off-the-bone-tender. Maybe a little bit too tender where it might be a little undercooked. There looks to be some traces of redness on the meat strands which may or may not be signs of still raw meat. We love the vibe of the place. It was packed during the Thursday night we dined in. Different sports were being played on the many different TV screens present in the restaurant bar. Their table service frequency could use a little bit of improvement. We found we had to wait for someone to come to our table a couple times too many during ordering and asking for the bill. read more

We entered the restaurant and were shown to a table by an unsmiling and unfriendly young man yesterday at lunchtime, not even a hello. We waited almost 10 minutes before a server showed up. I had the cheesesteak sandwich which was very good and my wife had the chicken souvlaki and rice, her chicken was good and the rice was hard ( not cooked enough ) No one bothered to check if we needed refills or ask how our meal was. When it was time to leave I had to go and find the server because he was not coming to clear our dishes after our meal. We were not offered coffee or dessert. Extremely disappointed. To start the parking is terrible. No handicap spots available. Wife has difficulty had to walk he from Wimpys lot. Service was very slow. Took over 20 mins before they even too our drink order. Another 10 mins before it was delivered. Too many young employees standing around with nothing to do. Very noisy atmosphere. When food finally arrived over an hour after we sat down, it was ample, quality was acceptable. Pricing was fine. Needless to say they won't see me again. read more

Very busy happening little place. It was recommended by our hotel. We were told the wait is usually hours. We were there Saturday Easter weekend ... still very busy but not a long wait. Service is great and the staff is very attentive. It was busy but service was surprisingly fast ... great teamwork which is nice to see and they all looked very happy. Very large portions. Everyone I saw was walking out with takeout containers. When we arrived I saw a group of teenage boys with take away containers. You know the portions are large when teenage boys are taking food home. Hubby had the chicken breast with spinach, pesto with shrimp. He said it was delicious and was still talking about it the next day when he ate the rest for supper. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. Great place, great atmosphere and the decor is pretty amazing. I particularly liked how attentive the staff was. Came here due to the humidity, got seated within 5 minutes, but it took 15 minutes to get our order taken. Me and my mom sat at the table for over 1 hour without getting our food. The waitresses ignored us throughout being seated and didnt ask to refill our water, we come here a lot and the experience is usually good but since im writing about this time, i am not impressed. This is a reason for Yelp to have no stars. My hotel recommended this place so I went over. Outside and inside looked cool so I was interested. No one at the host/hostess table so I decided to sit at the bar instead of getting a table. I spent 20 minutes, had to ask the bartender for a beer, had to ask the bartender for a menu and finally had to ask the bartender for the bill. I went here to eat and the service flat out sucked. FYI 7:30 on Sunday evening. The place was busy but how do you have (1) bartender for the entire place and he also waits 8-10 tables? This is a management problem but I won't be back. I also explained the problem to the hotel so they wouldn't waste their time recommending this place. I went to another similar place that was just as full but they cared that I was there. Came here with my parents when visiting Btown. Considering dining options are limited in Brantford, I thought it was quite good. The service was very very attentive, borderlining overly attentive though (waitress checking in too much and random management also interrupting the meal a few times to see if we are enjoying ourselves. No harm done but it could be toned down a bit) Decor is kind of cool, lots of large mounted artwork portraying various famous guitarists. Venue is open and spacious with lots of seating, and a cool bar off to one side. Everything very clean, shiny and new. The menu was varied, lots to chose from - burgers, chicken, wings, salads, steaks, etc. I had a special of the day, a chicken souvlaki meal. It was absolutely huge, for $14.99, and I could only chew through half. The food was well prepared and fresh and really tasty. My wife and I had dinner at Zander's to night we had a little wait as we did not set reservations they were quick to seat us. Amy our waitress really made the atmosphere and our meal an incredible experience She was knowledgeable of the menu and had a great table side manner. I have eaten here a few times. I have had a few good servers sometimes but the food is just lacking. The chicken pita comes with Tzatziki heaping at the open end and none at the other end (so much so that it's almost impossible to take the first bite without wearing it). Our appetizer took 25 minutes to get there only to be followed by our entree two minutes later (the cold fries and hot plate probably meant it was ready before the app but sat under the heat lamp). The barely warm fries had sugar sprinkled on them instead of salt. And let's play the worst music to top it off in a decor thats worse than guy Fieri's hairdo. Had horrible service. Waitress named Jessica was very rude. She took our order and didn't write anything down. We asked for no peppers and no onions in a salad for a CHILD. However when it came to the table it had peppers. So I NICELY said " oh this has peppers in it". She gave me mean look and said In an annoyed tone "does he have a food allergy? " I said no but we asked for no peppers. Which was met by " so he wants a salad with no peppers or onions. Right away I felt like we were in the wrong. I looked at my husband who was looking at me in shock too. I'm not sure why this ticked her off so much. Maybe if she wrote the order down she wouldn't have messed it up. She took it away.. then came back and said "well they have to make you a HOLE new salad so it will be a bit". I asked for a manager because of the tone and way she was talking to us. I was not upset at the mistake but the way she was treating us. She said there was no managers so I asked what the problem was. She said she didn't have a problem but that she was having a bad day and that it was busy. Then she left. I was disappointed that she was taking her anger out on us. When she brought us the bill she did apologize and offer us free dessert. However the rude comments and looks didn't entice me for free dessert. Sorry won't be going back. read more

My boyfriend and I eat here quite often. It's probably our favourite restaurant. Portions are good and so is the price. All or most of the sauces and dressing are made in house. And the food is excellent! Most of the servers are excellent and very accommodating. And if something is made incorrectly they are very quick to replace and if necessary give a discount. The atmosphere is laid back and sometimes there is live music. On Sundays they have a buffet brunch which is pretty good. I'm normally not a fan of buffet but there are several options and it is pretty tasty. Whenever I've gone the owner is there making the omelettes and carving a prime rib roast which is amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any one looking for a good meal and casual dining experience. read more

BURGERS! Zander's burgers are so freaking incredible, I don't even know what else to say. Out of the 5+ times I've been, I've ordered a burger every time but once (the other time was a pasta if I remember correctly, but I don't remember which one). They have a different special everyday such as all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch and their burgers are at a reduced price Mondays (and obviously a bunch of different specials throughout the rest of the week). I know you can order burgers anywhere, but Zander does such a fantastic job. They have such awesome topping options, they are all themed after major bands/artists, the flavour is out of this world, and the buns are incredible! TIP: the potato bun is awesome, but the pretzel bun actually takes it to a whole new level - it's got the perfect density to handle the amazingness of the burger! The atmosphere is also awesome; the walls are covered in amazing guitars and sick paintings of incredible rock stars and there's two motorcycles. I would probably up this to a 5 star if I'd tried more of their other food options, but since I haven't really I'll keep it at a 4. Had a great dining experience here the other day. I was passing through Brantford with my girlfriend and decided to stop in and give it a try. The waitress was very good at checking back in with our table and checking in with the kitchen. We ordered the pulled pork potato skins and they were very good. You could tell they use fresh ingredients that were never frozen. Apps are half price after 9. I ordered chicken wings as it was half price wing night, they were huge! I was very impressed at the quality for the price. My girlfriend ordered the zeppelin a chicken sandwich with onions and cheese. This sandwich was huge and a little messy but very tasty. The atmosphere was good they had live music playing in the corner of the bar. I was very impressed by the overall quality and value of this restaurant. I would defiantly come back and will be telling all my friends about this great place when there in Brantford. read more

Went with friends from out of town. Phoned first to inquire about reservations but was told they don't take reservations on weekends. This was on a Friday night but decided to try and get a table anyway as this was our first time at this restaurant. Staff were friendly and managed to seat the four of us in a booth as we requested. Good selection of craft beer or wine but drinks were a bit pricey. We all ordered the same meals, fish & chips with coleslaw. The food arrived quickly but unfortunately the fish was more batter than fish and the fish was undercooked. I did not say anything to the wait staff as I didn't want to embarrass our friends. I could see if maybe one or two meals were undercooked, but all four? I felt that our food orders were rushed as the restaurant was quite busy. This restaurant appears to cater to a younger clientele as entertainment is provided later in the evening. In summary, there are other restaurants in Brantford that offer better value for the $.
