I have called Johanna twice to see if she can repair one of my Thomas Blackshear figurines and both times she hung up on me!

All the great reviews of this foundry are from the past. I…read moreused to have access a foundry and cast in bronze myself. So, I know how it supposed to be. About that time last year, I took two smaller (not monumental, about 10 inches high) works in wax to cast in bronze and patina. One was cast fine, the other one had lots of defects. Patina work for was a huge frustration hence the patineur person was new and had very vague idea of how patina effects bronze work and how to achieve anything. At he end, I gave up, took my works home, and still am very disappointed whenever I look at them. I also I noticed that for their monumental works they bring professionals to work on them. I will never take my work to this foundry again. Just couldn't imagine that it can be so bad!

A cool little workshop and gallery off the beaten trail. Great place to find sculptures, furniture…read moreand other decorative gems. The grounds are like an art gallery, only not particularly well-maintained. The gallery itself has two levels, a first floor with displayed metal sculptures and a few offices, and a second floor that includes a living room area with a couch and TV. This place is admittedly a little confusing, however, because no prices are listed, and I was told that the majority of art belongs to the owner? So it's very difficult to determine what is available for purchase, and what is merely for display. Even more confusing is that the employees who work here don't seem to know what's for sale and what's already owned by the owner. I suppose that means they aren't particularly concerned with selling their art, so maybe come here just to browse? Regardless - a lovely space to wander when you happen to be in Berkeley.

They extracted the glass from the frame and dismantled the window frame by frame until they got to the broken pane of glass. When I picked up the repaired hutch window, I could not even tell where the repair had been done. The repaired section and all the intricate metal framing and solder looked aged perfectly to the remainder of the window. They are artists and really nice people.

The first stained glass studio I talked to gave me a description of the extensive work he'd need to do, a cost estimate and an ETA on how long it would take, and they all seemed crazy. So we had doubts we'd be able to get the issue fixed. Then I contacted Helios and had a completely different result. They were so friendly and so taken with our old lamp. They immediately knew what to do to mend and strengthen the glass shade, having fixed similar issues with many vintage lamps. The price quoted was less than a quarter of the first cost estimate we got, and the time estimate was only a week or two. Their proposed solution was so sensible we knew we were in good hands. That impression was only strengthened by Connie's gorgeous personal stained glass art on display in their workshop. With those examples of the talent in play, I knew the result would look great. And it looked even better than expected. When we picked up our fixed lampshade right on schedule, the repairs were invisible and the previously weakened structure was now rock solid. The whole process was so pleasant, the results were impeccable and now our beloved old lamp is assembled and shining again for the first time in decades. I'd trust these folks with any stained glass project you brought to them.
