My mother passed away suddenly a couple of weeks ago. Myself, my sister, nor my father never had the misfortune of having to make funeral arrangements before. On top of being emotional, we felt helpless and confused; thankfully Feeney's made the process as painless and easy as possible for us. We met with Dave, the director, and were given simple worksheets to help us brainstorm how we wanted to memorialize my mother. He talked us through several options, helped us write her obituary for "The Record," and aided us in solidifying all our plans. When it came time for the wake, I could not believe how much Feeney's went above and beyond for us. We never spoke of any extras, so I was not expecting more than a simple prayer card and sign in book. In addition to that, they also provided a large signature board, a blown up photo of my mother fit for hanging on the wall, a large photo collage display, a brochure full of pictures and a mind-blowing origami style card that folded 4 times over revealing different photos, as well as the poem we chose for the prayer card. This card was a beautiful, wonderfully unexpected touch. Throughout both the ceremonies the staff were so courteous, always asking us how everything was and if we needed anything. Everyone was extremely helpful. The day after the wake, we decided to have a short celebration of my mother's life. It began with a very touching and well put together montage of photos converted into a DVD which we were able to keep. Norma, the celebrist (non-religious) speaker, did a great job with the eulogy from the simple timeline that we emailed her - she even stopped to play one of my mom's favorite songs. Losing a loved one is an extremely emotional and trying experience, and Feeney's not only made the process as easy as possible for us, but went the extra mile to make sure our last memories were beautiful and pleasant. I never thought I'd be writing a review for a funeral home, but this one made such an impact on me that I want to publicly praise it. I hold Feeney's in high regard and absolutely reccommend their services.

They guided me on where to go and park during the funeral ceremony My friend had her dad's service here and she was very impressed with the staff and help provided. She is not on yelp but wanted to make sure you knew that the staff was great when she made all the arrangements. Definitely a place I would recommend if needed.

Very caring and said some prayers at the gravesite because I had elected not to have a priest. I see some bad reviews here but in my experience I would not hesitate to use them. They were very caring and very responsive to my needs. The reason I used them was one of my cousins caregivers recommended them. She has been a hospice care giver for 20 plus years so I figured her recommendation was solid. It was!

But the way we where handled is best summed up by gentle courtesy. Our Funeral director "Gary" was extremely efficient without rushing us along. He had answers to our questions and his questions help elicit thoughtful responses from us. He kinda knew what we needed to ask and if we didn't he would lead us into that area. Although he was dealing with a very serious matter he never let us get so far off topic as to drag out the important work that needed to be done. The actual viewing was exactly as described. NOTHING was a problem, the staff was always visible and available but not in the way. Really you could do no better. A death in the family really is the worst, but i can heartily recomend Vander Plaat in your time of need

On the day of the funeral he tried shooing away numerous members of the family that were grieving simply because we were falling a minutes behind schedule for the procession. I know this might not mean much around the 5 star reviews of this place but what we experienced…read morewith them was unbelievable. We had an incident with the guy that works at the funeral home . My cousin came to the wake at 7. He didn't know my mother in law's last name .my cousin who's a dark skinned minority asked "is this the only wake going on now? "and the guy told him " you're not in the right place " since he wasn't caucasian like everyone else at the funeral. Mind you this was the only wake going on at the time. Then the wake ended at 7:00 and we were all waiting to use the bathroom it was like 7:15 and the guy walks by me (I'm a minority, my husband is white) and says " you know we're closed -"then he shows his watch to me and taps it with his index finger loudly like 3 times in my face . His tone of voice was like he was talking down to me. I got so mad. . I told him he was being inconsiderate and then he says " we close at 7- even the family already left!" That's when my husband started getting more upset and said WE ARE THE FAMILY - that's my mother that just died- and this is her daughter in law and granddaughters . The guy was so rude and insensitive. He apologized after but idk if he meant it. Then we told the funeral director in the morning. Apparently the guy already told him his side of the story. And the funeral director's response was " he's been working with us for 10 years." thats an insensitive response too. He basically minimized the situation and sided with the employee .So they basically made it look like my husband overreacted. The employee should have been more professional and tactful in how he spoke to us, We were debating whether we should post a review but now we feel we need to let the public know if you are considering this place that we want you to know what we experienced. Insensitive people should not be working in the funeral home industry. He was clearly racist- we are already mourning and we had to put up with this ! I did not want to put one star either but I had to post a star to post this review. . I know they will turn around and post something that makes them seem compassionate but WE KNOW WHAT WE EXPERIENCED! The whole family is still in shock about his behavior. We just lost our loved one and he made it feel WORSE. I know it might not make a difference but we cannot have other people experience this type of behavior too!
