It's hard to fathom giving someone a 5-star review for giving me a root canal, but yes - it was well earned. Dr. Welch is a pretty serious and matter-of-fact dude, but you learn to appreciate that when he'll be spending about an hour operating in your mouth. He was extremely thorough in his description before and after the procedure, and he told me exactly what he was doing step by step. I was completely numbed and didn't feel a thing. I just put on my iPod and zoned out for the whole procedure. Had my first root canal here in 2010. Dr Welch is very professional and solved my problem, no issues there. At the time I had a Cigna DHMO plan and presented my card to the office manager and he NEVER gave an indication that this practice did not subscribe to my plan. So he asked me to pay 1/2 up front even before he filed the claim, and then quiet charged the rest a few weeks later because "insurance didn't pay". Never told me they never took my plan to begin with. So on my next root canal with the same plan I paid $200 out of pocket for my co-pay at a different endodontist. That's it. Today I called about my 3rd root canal and was very clear that I'm on a Cinga PPO plan and that the practice partipates in the plan. But still he wants me to pay half up front and send a refund check later if insurance pays. Since I'm paying from an HSA and reimbursed in cash that brings up potential tax issues... and drains the account for other health expenses.... would just rather not go there. About 2 weeks after my root canal, Randy called me to inform me that my insurance had rejected my claim, he didn't have a reason but was adamant about it. When I began to ask him questions he got snappy and stated that "he does this everyday" and that he will be "dropping an invoice in the mail" that afternoon for me to pay the remaining 50% of the cost and dismissed me off the phone. This did not sound accurate so I contacted my insurance company who flat out told me that he was LYING. The claim had just been processed on their end the day before and they had not cut the check yet to Dr. Welch, but it was definitely NOT denied! I called Randy back to inform him that I had basically just did his job for him, (the one "he does everyday") and talked to my insurance who said everything was fine and a check was on the way for their covered portion. He informed me that once payment was received, he'd send a check out to me for my overpayment since I had to pay 50% upfront, but insurance covered 80% of the cost. That was 3 weeks ago and insurance paid out the claim, yet still no check in my mailbox with a refund from these guys. Randy wasn't the most personable when I was at the office, but this incident proved to me that he is very rude and condescending. Hey Randy, send me my CHECK like you were about to send me that invoice! Dr. Welch on the other hand, did an excellent job on my root canal. I found to be very professional and straight to the point, which is what I expect from a dentist. I have no complaints about him personally. read more

If you are nervous about getting root canals, Dr. Welch is your dentist! I was referred there from my regular DDS and I couldn't have been more relieved by this thorough and professional practice. I had a complicated root canal need. Dr. Welch displayed confidence and explained the entire process. He's gentle and made the process as smooth as I could have hope for. I really wished he provided general dentistry! As with most medical and dental practices, they ask for payment at the time of services provided. I was referred to this place by Dr. Feil. I got there, filled out paperwork and noticed that they wanted half of the procedure amount. I spoke with the guy at the desk and he said cannot send me a bill and I would have to pay $475 immediately. I havent been to an endodontist before so Im not sure if thats what they all do? either way, I called Dr. Feil's office and they said the only other option was an extraction and they referred me to a different specialist. My review mirrors some of the other users. I am pleased with the fact that I have not had any trouble with the physical work that doctor Welch performed. However, I have a hefty complaint with how the office seems very focused on business and less on the patient. Randy failed to see if my insurance covered my root canal and filed claim with the wrong insurance company to begin with. Based on their forms and lack of options, I gave my banking information for any fees that went over. I woke up to $547 being extracted from my bank account without prior warning. They were completely unsympathetic to the fact that it would be a huge financial burden. I understand the fact that it needs to be paid, but I was given no other option. I found Dr. Welch to be very cold and strange as well. I had an anxiety attack due to the effects of the epinephrine on my first visit and instead of offering any kind words, he snapped his gloves off and instructed the assistant to inform my general dentist that he could not complete the root canal and told me that he had reached a point where is was okay to stop. The assistant was very kind and reassured me that I was okay. After contacting my general dentist about it, he informed me that it was a common occurrence for people to have increased anxiety and that I should request the numbing agent that did not contain epinephrine. I will be contacting my dentist urging him not to refer other patients to Dr. Welch. *update: After telling my regular dentist about my experience, he said that a number of other patients he referred had reported that they felt a "creepy vibe" and he wouldn't be referring people there any longer. read more

I read the reviews before I made an appointment with Dr. Welch and from everything I read the dental work has gotten good reviews and the only problem is the money part of the practice. I went online and read the payment information and I thought it was spelled out very clearly. I must have met a different Dr. Welch than the others. The person I encountered was cold, flippant, and not the least bit concerned with my anxiety over a root canal. I wouldn't let this man polish my nails much less dig into my gums. On the other hand, his dental assistant was very kind and reassuring - almost like she was trying to overcome his terrible bedside manner. IDK - maybe he was just having a bad day. The best dentist experience ever. I had one root canal done before. I have been to dentist office many many times since I was 9. Most of those visits scared me to death. My experience at John Welch's office is the best that I can remember. Randy is very helpful. He explained the procedure and how much time I might need over the phone when I made my appointment. Dr Welch is very nice. He explained everything clearly. I was well numbed during the root canal and I didn't feel any pain at all. My mouth was partially covered so there was no sprayed water over my face. Dr Welch also let me know when there would be pressure, cold temperature, or vibration. None of those bothered me at all. If it was not my mouth got tired, I almost fell asleep. After everything was done, the assistant even offered me hot towel. I strongly recommend Dr Welch if you need root canal. When I had my first root canal I was petrified. I had heard horror stories about the pain and complications that can occur. It was nothing like that. The only pain I felt was when Dr. Welch touched my tooth with something very cold to see if I really needed a root canal. The procedure itself was painless and I had not complications. after the novocaine wore off I needed only ibuprofen. I had no complications. I have since had two more root canals with the same result: no pain and no complications. Dr. Welch is very professional and expert at what he does. read more

I was really happy to be getting a root canal done. I had been buried in school expenses and barely staying afloat as I finished college and now I have adult money haha, so I could get this finally done. I was recommended by a dentist who said I was in need of a root canal, so I took work off to get this taken care of. It was a hike if your inside the perimeter, but I figured it was worth it since I was recommended by a successful Dentist. I'm not sure why everyone there seems like they are having a terrible day, perhaps it's the depressing 70's breakup music playing non-stop...not sure. I got there about 15 minutes early and we started about 15 minutes late, which is fine. I was escorted to the back area and had myself a seat, nervously but relieved this was gonna get done. I was told I had to get an Xray, I kindly noted that the Dentist had sent an xray, and she (his assistant?) started to get aggressive about X-raying which was very bizarre. The receptionist had confirmed he was going to make sure he had my xray before I came in. I found it strange they had no idea I had an xray sent to them by my dentist office and were pushing hard for a new one. She eventually just told me 'well Im gonna have to take another one anyways (which never happened)'- ok thats fine but as a client, would be nice if you didn't come off like a nagging younger sibling. They eventually tracked down the x-ray and Dr.Welch came out, Im gonna be real frank here and say this guy could use a smile. I accept that the tooth was too decayed (although surprised my dentist didn't just say that), but was hoping to ask some questions, everytime I tried to open my mouth to talk he just started talking, and in about 3 minutes I was escorted out...? I said three words the entire consultation to Dr. Welch and got brief explanation mainly dealing with *what a crown is/root canal is, although I didn't ask. I am going to go out on a limb here and say most people going to a Endodontic surgeon have looked at the internet about the practice. So I go to pay after being escorted and they want 99 dollars for 3-5 minute consultation of rudeness I thinking. Also thinking about how I would be paying for a Xray if I had not pointed out that they already had it. It took about 15 minutes for them to read my card for payment. There office equipment was very old, which worries me about there dentistry equipment. The receptionist told me the card reader was broken and offered to do it manually- I just told him whatever works. He was getting frustrated. This plays reeks of bad energy and bitterness. Very uncomfortable all around. Ok, besides that. He told me he was going to send my xrays to a doctor that could pull my tooth and send me the information. I said 'Sure' knowing that the chances of this happening were slim to none due to my expectations of this place sinking fast. Well, I was right. They never sent me the doctors name, I have no idea where they sent any X-Rays. Yelp review, and hopefully will be my last ever. NO bueno. read more

Totally unprofessional and highly impersonal experience. I was sent for a consultation to determine why a new root canal kept reinfecting. Randy's greeting was cold and totally different from the next patient who entered. Dr and his assistant are very cold and indifferent, they don't make you feel comfortable at all, and it's all business. First Dr said it was probably a cyst below the tooth, later he got addl xrays from my dentist and I was told over the phone to see another endodontist for an evaluation to potentially have an apicoectomy. I asked to speak directly w/the Dr. and Randy, the receptionist, basically ignored this. So I paid for nothing, now have to see another endo for another opinion. By the way, Dr claims digital xrays are too low resolution so insists upon taking old fashioned film exray- rediculous, how can a 1" film show more detail than a high rez digital image which can be enlarged, adjusted for contrast etc. I'm sure some folks have had good results but in the end, you want a friendly, open and honest opinion and not someone who is seeking to protect a referral status w/a Dentist, and just adding charges for unnecessary Xrays. I still have no basis for the Dr's opinion nor is it consistent with references that say a retreatment is best option before doing an apicoectomy. I questioned why the canal filling had extruded outside the apex of the root and noted this appeared to be due to faulty work-Dr. defended this as proper but that's not what anyone else says. read more

Dr. Welch and his staff are as honest as they come. I was experiencing the most excruciating pain that radiated throughout my head. The source was an infected root canal. I was in a very bad place and hadn't slept for 4 days due to the pain and was prepared to do ANYTHING it took to eliminate the pain as quickly as possible. They were very accommodating and rearranged patients to take an emergency visit. I was sitting in his chair and ready to begin the procedure when Dr Welch spent time with me understanding my situation and reviewed my options. While he could have very easily done the procedure as planned, and by the way, this was a viable option that would have put me out of the agony I was experiencing, due to his strong work ethics and integrity he actually referred me to another doctor! I had heard great things of his work and now I am even more impressed that he turned down an opportunity to make a buck and provided honest feedback and guided me down the right path!
