    Pastrami on plain rye...
    Nicholas K.

This is this places first review - so I'll be thorough. Just opened in the back half of Juy 2014... Wow. In a world of BBQ places, this one stands out. He raises his own rabbits, ducks, and chickens. He sources his beef and pork very wisely as well. (he is one of those guys that likes to talk to his customers and throw a bit of information out along with the meal). Everything is applewood smoked. I have had his Duck tacos, Rabbit Tacos, Pulled Pork Tacos, and his in-house cured (21 days) and smoked (20 hours) Pastrami sandwich. I've yet to try the ribs and the chicken. Where to begin? His pulled pork is very good. He knows how to be subtle enough to not drown the meat in sauces and spices. It was juicy and tender, while holding on to the smoke flavor. Highly recommended, however, compared to everything else I've had, it's not my top choice here. Let's talk about rabbit. Until this spot, I've never had it. The Rabbit taco is Baja style, with a delicately fried tortilla shell, homemade cole slaw, fresh arugula, and the barbecued pulled rabbit. It's a life changing experience. Rabbit is now firmly in my meat diet after one bite of the taco. The meat is unexplainable. Tender, juicy, not gamey - yet very unique - it definitely dances well with apple smoke. The duck (duck meat I have had before) was also very tender, smokey and stringy (in a good way). It is served the same as the rabbit taco, as is the pulled pork taco. These aren't your average $1-$2 crap heavily seasoned tacos, so don't expect that. These are a whole other experience, with little to no added seasoning other than what the ingredients bring on their own. Now...on to that pastrami. I once thought I've had pastrami. I was mistaken. Delis know nothing of pastrami. This particular pastrami is a labor of dedication. As he boasts, John cures the pastrami for 21 days, and smokes it for 20 hours. It's served simply, on a sandwich of large slices of rye bread, and a side of choice. I would choose the cole slaw over all of the other sides. I threw the cole slaw on the pastrami and rye, and it was golden. For being cured 21 days, it's definitely not too salty or acidic as one would expect. The salt/spices are present, but they do not overpower the succulent meat. And by the way, Boy is this sandwich meaty. And damn smokey as well. It's easily the best pastrami I've had (with an eye to famous sources of pastrami in manhattan). My wife had one as well, now she won't shut up about it. The dining setting is outdoors, under a large canopy, lakeside, with a group of baby ducks roaming freely around the grounds. It's a very large plot so you won't feel cramped at all. It has a parking lot, and a farm market attached to the BBQ building. The farm market is very interesting, and he sells his meats direct from the market.

Excellent BBQ made from the freshest ingredients. Their butchered meat is top quality. In the shop they sell homemade ricotta and pastas along with honey, cheeses, eggs, bread, steak, sausage and more. Tried the cappuccino Kahlua chip ice cream, it was super rich and had great coffee flavor. Ribs, pulled pork, duck & brisket are all great. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Definitely check this place out.

Pulled pork, corn bread and macaroni salad.

We discovered Wright's Farm by accident, our hotel concierge recommended we stop by the local farm…read morestand. Once we pull in, from the outside it seems like a typical farm stand. Walking inside, it's a different experience at Wright's Farm. This visit, I want to buy a bottle of local wine and some local cheese then go back to the hotel. I see there is a very nice selection of Hudson Valley and regional wines. I also buy a nice local, spreadable cheese along with some crackers. I noticed towards the back, I see a wall of homemade jams. And they're all packaged in these cute mason jars! Strawberry Jelly is a must but then we went a little nutzo with a few more jam flavors as well as homemade apple sauces, fresh cheeses and pickles! Sunday, its check out time and we're heading back to Long Island after breakfast. My wife said we need to go shopping for dinner today. I said, Let's go back to Wright's Farm and pick up dinner? And this was the highlight of our trip. In the cold cases, I see homemade ravioli, one of the stuffings was corn? I had plans to stop in The Bronx and get a few boxes of Raviolis. I gambled and said lets try their corn ravioli. O.M.G. This ravioli was fantastic! My wife made it with fresh sage from our herb garden. It was a little pricey but it was better than anything I had this year. For the week, we bought a large ham steak and a ham hock for pea soup. I saw something interesting, a black futsu squash? I told my wife, lets buy one and take a chance. Amazing! My wife cooked this squash and it came out deelish. Dessert? My sons inhaled the apple cider doughnuts we bought home for them. Wright's Farm, it was a pleasant surprise to discover your local farmstand.
