Now that we're living in The Catskills, my quest to find that similar market prototype I grew to love in Westchester, continues. I had forgotten hubs and I came here before during one of our bi-annual trips to The Catskills. Recently though, when I searched for produce markets near work in Highland, Wallkill View in New Paltz popped up within a short driving distance. As you drive past all of New Paltz bustling shops and restaurants on Main St, you'll soon approach a sleepy farmland area overlooking Mohonk Preserve in about 5 or so minutes. I've been hard-pressed to find a market that tops my favorite one in Westchester and checks all the boxes. Wallkill View grows and sells a nice mix of produce the area has to offer. And when veggies and fruit aren't grown on-site or in season, they're sourced from elsewhere. Unlike other farm markets that operate only Sat+Sun, Wallkill V. is open everyday. Well...almost. These folks shut down for Christmas and throughout the winter- reopening in March. Prices are about $1 more than what I paid down in White Plains- but hey... I get it. Service is great though.

Last year, they had the BEST warm apple cider donuts - and their hot apple cider was the real deal, not that watered-down stuff you get everywhere else. It was the perfect combo for a chilly autumn day. I was really looking forward to making Dressells Farm a regular weekday stop this fall for that specific treat, but it's a shame they only offer it on weekends. Hopefully, they'll consider offering the hot cider and fresh donuts every day next year so more people can enjoy them!

I was especially impressed by their greenhouse operation, which includes both hydroponic and aquaponic growing systems. They grow fresh lettuce, cucumbers, and strawberries right on the property using innovative growing methods. The farm itself is beautiful, with apple and peach orchards, fields of wildflowers, and plenty of seasonal produce. There's also a great selection of perennial plants for anyone looking to add something new to their garden. And there's even a brewery right on the property, making Wright's Farm more than just a place to pick up groceries. It's a destination to explore, shop, eat, drink, and enjoy the beauty of the Hudson Valley. From the incredible selection of locally produced foods to the beautiful landscape and innovative farming practices, Wright's Farm was definitely a highlight of our visit. We stopped in yesterday to pick up some tomatoes, which are in season now. Heirloom tomatoes are $6.00 a pound, and cherry tomatoes are $6.00 a pint. I really want to support the local farmers, but these prices are outrageous, obnoxious, and downright insulting. Other farms are $3 - $4 per pound. I cannot support price gouging.

My favorites this past summer and spring were their sugar snap peas, yellow watermelon, huge selection of greens, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, delicata squash, celery, scallions, salad mix, peppers, eggplants, zucchini, and more. I have to credit Taliaferro for almost single-handedly increasing my vegetable consumption from that of a picky child who eats only corn (I jest, sort of) to me claiming, last night, that I could be a vegetarian if for some reason I needed to... except for beef. I love the challenge of cooking seasonally with their offerings for the week, and they give you a push in the right directions with their newsletter, which lists recipes for some of the more unusual offerings each week.
